075: Are you Consistent, Stale or Consistently Stale?

It’s a bold question and not something that we’d probably want to admit to ourselves, which is why it’s a conversation worth having. When you’re photographing something like a wedding, that’s a fairly repeatable structure, it’s easy to shy away from being creative and relying on  consistent ‘easy wins’ that might keep our couples happy, but leave us feeling creatively empty and tired of the same old, same old.  This episode is definitely a spin-off of Episode 71: ‘Don’t be a Crab’ and in this one we offer some ways to stop that from happening. Sure, there’s times when consistency is 100% needed to build a brand, win trust from clients and tell the story; but when those ‘easy wins’ overtake the creative edge that drew you to this job, it’s not long before you’re being overtaken by the new forward thinkers coming in around you and moving with the times. This episode will definitely make you take a long look in the mirror of yourself and your business and hopefully give you that creative wake-up call you need as you enter another busy season of weddings. It’s designed to make you think, be honest and make changes to evolve your creativity and business. Thanks as always to everyone who listens to these conversations, supports what we do and helps spread the word of this podcast. 074: Lazy Photographers, Pricing Gaps & Are Content Creators Coming for Your Job?

The boys are back (and in a new room!) for another episode of the pod and this one has an interesting little twist…Tom & Chris prepared questions for each other, but without the other seeing them beforehand.so, the answers you hear are all 100% genuine reaction and opinions with no preparation or thought to the answers allowed. The questions asked cover a range of industry topics such as:- How much of a genuine threat are content creators to videography as we know it?- Is documentary an art form of its own, or just an excuse to be a lazy photographer?- Why do photographers generally charge more than videographers but do less work?We hope this is an episode that encourages genuine conversation about some of the lesser spoken topics of our industry and maybe even leaves you with something to think about as you embark on another busy season of weddings. As always, we’d love to hear your feelings and opinions on these topics, so don’t be afraid to DM us or comment your views and join in the chat.  Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: Destination weddings, documentary wedding photography, wedding videography, content creators, pricing gaps, lazy photographers.

    073: Balancing Business with Adoption

This week we’re welcoming our first guest of 2026, the wonderful Adam Lowndes.  Most of you will know Adam from his prolific BTS content that he posts on TikTok that and amassed him an impressive following. Adam’s friendly and open-book approach has also helped him build a wonderful online community amongst photographers, which made him the perfect choice for someone we’d love to have a conversation with on this pod. However, this chat isn’t about TikTok, social media or his Insta 360; this one is much deeper than that as Adam shares a personal journey that led him to adopting his daughter. We can’t thank Adam enough for his willingness to share this with us and being so honest and open about a subject that isn’t discussed enough.  We talk about his entire journey from beginning to end and how it’s shaped the way he runs his business today.  This episode breaks down a lot of walls when it comes to balancing parenthood and self employment, with loads of lessons in there for everyone.   Thanks again to Adam for being the kindest, most incredible guest and be sure to reach out and thank him if this episode resonates with you.  Adam’s links:Website: https://www.adamlowndes.co.uk/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adamlowndesphotography/Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@adamlowndesphotographyAdam’s Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/socialmediaweddingphotographyWCC LINKS:Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: Adam Lowndes, Tiktok, Adoption, IVF, outsourcing, wedding photography, wedding education, social media.

072: Holidays, Analogue Living & Building a CRM

It’s been a minute since we sat down to record and we’ve both had a busy few weeks - albeit in very different ways. Tom has been away on a real adventure of a holiday and Chris has been working on his edit pile and constructing his own bespoke CRM.  In this episode we both talk about the takeaways from our endeavours as well as coming together on a really lovely chat about analogue living; something that stemmed from the resolutions/goals we set in our ‘Year in Review’ episode at the beginning of 2026. (Episode 67 if you want to listen!)  Both of us have found ourselves really enjoying journalling, reading and trying to strike a solid balance between, business, mindfulness and the clarity that screen-free time can bring. If you’re on the fence about how much these things might help you, that section is defiantly worth a listen.   We then close things out with Chris talking through the CRM that he’s built, the incredible functionality that it has (honestly it’s in INSANE) and how what started out purely as a passion project to help run his own business, might even end up being available to you at some point soon.   Thanks as always for all of your support and appreciation of this podcast, we genuinely couldn’t do it without you and love to hear from you all in the comments, DM’s and emails.LINKS: Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: Analogue life, journalling, wedding photography, wedding videography, Claude AI, CRM, holidays.

    071: Don't Turn into a Crab!

Are you scrolling through Instagram right now and feel that everything just looks the same?? It feels like wedding suppliers are all jumping on the latest trends, buying the latest presets and copying the last big reel that went viral.   We know it’s a wild ride in the wedding world right now, but what if you stopped chasing what works everyone else and shared what speaks to you? We’re called wedding creatives for a reason, so this episode is all about tuning out the noise of social media, copying our industry idols and actually showcasing our own creativity, our own voice and being authentically ourselves.   We talk about the joy of experimenting with new kit and techniques, showing your face online (as it’s the most unique thing you have!) and how actively going against the grain will make you stand out more than joining in the race with everyone else.   This episode was born entirely out of an off-pod conversation between us and it gets quite impassioned in places!  We hope this one will leave you feeling inspired and empowered to share what you truly love and attract the clients who you’re meant to work for.As always, we’d absolutely love to hear your thoughts on this one, so be sure to drop into our DM’s on Instagram or leave us a comment on YouTube. If you’re not following us on those platforms, I’ll drop the links below:  Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastPS: You’ll have to tune in til the very end for the title to make sense, but I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!

070: What to do when you can’t work together

In an ideal world, wedding suppliers will all get along, make friends and be able to work in harmony, even if you only met for the first time on the day.Sadly that isn’t always the case and we’ve probably all got a story where we’ve worked with someone who just doesn’t want to play nice.As a podcast that’s hosted by both photo & video co-hosts, we think we’re in a pretty good positions to have an open chat about this. We’ll offer our advice on how to stay professional in front of the couple, find workable solutions to getting what you need and maybe even avoid this from growing into a bigger problem as the day progresses. This episode isn’t about spilling gossip, it’s about giving you validation to set boundaries with difficult peers, being the bigger person and ultimately getting what you need from that wedding, with or without the other persons help. Hopefully it’s an episode you’ll never need to use, but it’s always better to be prepared than get caught unaware on the day. If you enjoyed this conversation, don’t forget to do all the little things (like, subscribe, comment etc) that help support what we do. Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcast

069: Using AI in Your Wedding Business

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably seen how commonplace the use of AI is online and in everyday life now. So, if you’re a wedding creative and fearing that you’re going to get left behind by the robots, then this episode is for you.The last time we did a deep dive on AI was back in Episode 17 and in the 18 months since we recorded that, the changes and new features that have emerged almost beggar belief. From the dawn of generative fill and Imagen AI’s colour grading, we’re now in a world, where Ai can’t only help edit your photos, it can create whole new images and video, all by feeding it a simple prompt. In this episode Chris does a full rundown on the AI tools he used to create a full-blown Christmas advert for his business and the impact that sharing that on Instagram had. We then go on to talk about some of the AI tools that we both use on a regular basis to help give balance and stay on top of everything as one-person business owner in 2026. Once you’ve listened in, check out the names of some of the tools we mentioned:Chat GPTNano BananaImagen AI Aftershoot HiggsfieldIf you enjoyed this conversation, don’t forget to do all the little things (like, subscribe, comment etc) that help support what we do. Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcast

    068: Productive or Procrastinator?

Happy New Year! (If it’s not too late to say that still!?) We’re back for our first episode of 2026 and we kick things off with a quick catchup about how we spent the festive period and Chris’ wedding on New Years Eve. It wouldn’t be an episode of the WCC without some form of topic and this week we have a good one…  Are you productive or are you a procrastinator??   With edits from last year still looming and a tax return to file before the end of the month, we thought this was a good chat to have to we can all harness that productivity and get caught up to speed, before the 2026 season kicks in.   For us, it’s all about being honest with yourself; knowing how & when that procrastination can creep in and how to keep it at bay. We talk through the routines, mindset and tools we use in order to be productive and also offer the theory that procrastination isn’t always a bad thing.   Don’t forget to like, subscribe and review this podcast, as we love to hear from all of you!

067: Our 2025 Year in Review

Our final episode of 2025, but due to a late release it’s now also the first episode of 2026! Back at the beginning of December, Tom & Chris sat down to record what has become an annual tradition of the Wedding Capture Co; our big end of year episode where we give ourselves (and each other) our annual appraisal of how we’ve found the past 12 months. We take stock of our highs & lows of the year as well as set some goals for the new year ahead. We take turns to talk about our journeys through 2025; a year which has been resoundingly tough for wedding suppliers and how we’ve navigated ourselves through that and come out the other side. Chris’ year has involved becoming a father, buying a camcorder and really finding his ideal client, whilst Tom’s has been more about doing less weddings, getting reacquainted with film photography and the rewards of being mentored. We also look back over the 23 episodes we made in 2025 and talk about the direction of this podcast too.If you’ve just landed back at your desk at the beginning of the year, or even tackling a long drive to a January wedding, this episode will inspire you to take a fond look at your previous year and set some killer ambitions for 2026.   Thanks as always for all of your support and appreciation of this podcast, we genuinely couldn’t do it without you and love to hear from you all in the comments, DM’s and emails.LINKS:Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: 2025 review, end of year, Black Friday, wedding photography, wedding videography, work life balance, 2026 goals.

066: Is it Worth Being Self Employed?

It’s fair to say that most wedding creatives work for themselves - so what better topic for a December episode than a good chat over the myths, wins & realities of running your own business in the wedding industry? The Christmas tree is up, but the gloves are off when it comes to sharing the honest truths of self employment.   Whilst we’re definitely not qualified experts in business (or accountants for financial advice!) we both have a decade of running wedding business’ behind us and at times run them in very different ways, but with quite similar goals in mind. We talk through our day-to-day routines, the do’s and don’ts and the biggest lessons we’ve learnt in business along the way.  This episode is a lesson in self-confidence, self discipline and an unwavering stubbornness to work for anyone other than ourselves.  Being self employed is a wild ride, but also hugely rewarding and we hope this episode is enough to encourage anyone to make the leap and go full time.LINKS: Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: Christmas, Self employment, wedding industry, sole trader, wedding photography, wedding videography, self discipline, running a business.

065: Our Predictions for 2026 Wedding Trends

As we enter the last month of 2025, we’re all beginning to look ahead into the new year and what it might have in store for us as wedding creatives. In this episode Tom & Chris muse over their thoughts & predictions for what they think the biggest trends of 2026 will be.The big takeaways include:- The continued growth of AI and content creation at weddings.- Will 2026 see the death of the editorial style all together? - Does BTS content for social media just feel old & dated now? - Gen-Z couples want different weddings to millennials, do we need to adapt? - Should we all start offering analogue? We’re certainly not experts or trendsetters, so don’t take this as gospel truth, but it’s certainly a fun episode that’ll give you some food for thought about next year. Do you have any ideas for big trends that we filed to mention? As always we’d love to hear from you about this, so comment below or slide into our DM’s.  Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coListen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6nWbCdrEXp2BsQNbsPxDed?si=5d78ddafa1da4affWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: 2026 wedding trends, wedding trends, content creation, AI, Editorial style, BTS, Gen-Z weddings, analogue photography, film, super 8.

062: Our Views on Content Creators

Following on from our recent episode around the issues of every supplier wanting to get BTS right now; we decided it was the right time to share  our thoughts, views and experiences of working with content creators, whose soul purpose at a wedding is to capture ‘Content’ for the couple that’s hired them. The rise of content creators across weddings in 2025 has been pretty dramatic and the genre is already starting to find niches of its own with some offering drone, Super 8 and audio of ceremony & speeches alongside their phone photo & video.   This episode definitely isn’t a ‘bash’ on content creators - if anything it’s more of a way for us to define our opinions on the genre, share our experiences and hopefully set the stage for an episode where we can have a CC come on and have a solid conversation around all of this.   It’s an interesting chat and really insightful to see how the perspectives of a photographer and videographer can feel quite on this.  Also stay tuned to find out which one of us says they would actually book a content creator themselves if they were planning their wedding now.   As always, we welcome all of your comments, feedback and opinions on this, so be sure to comment below!  Lastly, if we were to get a Content Creator on the WCC, let us know who you’d love us to chat too.  Follow us on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/weddingcapture.coWatch along on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastKeywords: Content Creator, BTS, Wedding Content, Wedding Photography, Wedding Videography, Teasers, highlight films, reels, TikTok, Instagram.

061: Growing your Business Fast with Chumley Films

It’s guest episode time on the Wedding Capture Co this week - Tom & Chris are joined by the wonderful James from Chumley Films. Based in the thriving North East of England, James only made the jump from graphic design to wedding videography in 2022 and is already  fully booked for 2026 with 50+ weddings.   Growth like that doesn’t come by accident; so in this conversation we get James to share some of the secrets behind his success:  From using your brand as the foundation of your business, to utilising Instagram to show personality.  James is more than generous with his knowledge and offers loads of useful info in how to give that personable approach, whilst still shooting a high volume of weddings each year.  Make sure you stay tuned to the end as James shares an Instagram hack for your DM’s that blew our minds and it’s something that’ll definitely change the game for you.  Huge thanks to James for coming on the pod, sharing his wisdom and being a generally friendly dude.  If you enjoyed this episode, make sure you do all the things (like, subscribe, review etc) and send us any recommendations you might have for future guests you’d like to hear from. ———————————————————————————————————Links:Chumley Films:Website: https://www.chumleyfilms.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chumleyfilms/Wedding Capture Co:Give us a follow on Instagram: @weddingcapture.co Drop us an email: [email protected] Keywords: Wedding Videography, Branding, Brand, Instagram, Content, shooting volume, UK Wedding Videography, Chumley Films.

    060: The Content Problem

If you’re a wedding supplier in 2025, making sure you’ve got some good BTS ‘for the gram’ is definitely something that’s probably crossed your mind at the end of a long wedding day. . In this episode we throw the door wide open on the whole topic of BTS and the problems it can create, when every supplier at the wedding is bustling to make their own content for social media.   We talk first hand about the things we’ve seen and issues we’ve faced when it comes to content; other suppliers prioritising their content over the couples needs and even in some cases, hiring their own photo & film crews just to make bespoke media for their own promotion.  We also tackle the elephant in the room -  as arguably the biggest creators of content on a wedding day, are there things that we do that might actually be making this problem worse?  You’ll have to tune in to the whole thing to hear what we have to say on this very current matter and as always, would love to hear your opinions in the comments below.  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastFollow us on Instagram: @weddingcapture.co Keywords: Content Creator, Behind the Scenes, BTS, Wedding Content, Wedding Photography, Wedding Videography.

059: Summer weddings, Evolving styles and nearly losing a car!

Chris & Tom are back behind the mics with a wealth of stories from their busy summer season, but you’ll have to listen until the end to hear how Chris ended up barefoot, wading through water to save his car from a freak flood during a wedding day. This one is a classic WCC catchup episode as the boys reflect on the weddings they’ve been part of and the lessons they’ve learnt from these days. Tom has worked with surprisingly few videographers this year, which leads to a great chat on how couples book, as Chris shares some great nuggets of wisdom on how he’s survived a couple of triple headers this month with travel in between.  We both also reflect on our years in this industry and how we feel our styles have evolved; not just over the past decade, but even in the past 12 months. As always, be sure to like, share & comment wherever you listen and we’d love to hear from you, our amazing listeners too.Give us a follow on Instagram: @weddingcapture.co Drop us an email: [email protected]  If you’re struggling to stay on top of edits this season, then why not look at outsourcing that to the team at Bride & Groom Video? This podcast is proudly in partnership with those guys and Chris explains in this episode how they’ve helped him this peak season.  Use this link (https://bridengroom.video/wcc/) to sign up today and with the code: WeddingCaptureCo75 you’ll get £75 off of your first edit! The wonderful Roo from Roo Films & Coda Conference has also been kind enough to give us a discount code for his ‘Cheat Codes’ course. If you’re just starting out in the world of wedding videography, this course will undoubtedly speed up your success and elevate your business.  Head over to: https://course.roo-films.com/ and use the code: WCC100 to get £100 off this amazing course. Keywords: Summer Weddings, Wedding Videography, Wedding Photography, Wedding Industry, Wedding Podcast, Content Creator, Second Shooting.

058: Our Journey with Personal Cameras

It’s peak season and you’re definitely feeling ready for a break?  Well this episode couldn’t have come at a better time and we know it’s one that a few of you have been eagerly waiting for... Holiday Cameras!  That’s right, we’ve dedicated a whole episode to our journeys of buying cameras that weren’t strictly ‘work’ purchases and purely intended for those mindful walks and holiday trips away.   When you use an expensive camera most weeks of your life, it’s easy to see why you wouldn’t want to take that same camera way on a family holiday. This is where the ‘non work’ camera comes into play and why something small, light, but still good quality is vital for capturing holiday memories.  You’ll have to listen to find out which camera Chris has bought 3 times and also what the perfect 4-Camera Strategy is for the ultimate holiday combo.  It’s a great episode on a few levels; if you’re gear orientated it has enough tech-geekiness to satisfy that itch as well as being genuinely informative in the quest for the ultimate non-work camera purchase.  If you have a favourite non-work camera, then drop it in the comments below! Also, don’t forget to like, subscribe and comment wherever you listen or watch along.YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastInstagram: @weddingcapture.coKeywords: Fujifilm, holiday camera, Leica, action camera, travel photography, wedding photography, wedding videography

057: Managing Maternity Leave & Motherhood with Clearly Wild Photography

This week on Wedding Capture Co, Tom & Chris are back with another guest episode, a really insightful topic and an exciting announcement from Chris… You’ll have to listen to the episode itself to hear that announcement, but let’s just say that Chris’ news feeds perfectly into this week’s topic.  The incredible Katie from Clearly Wild Photography is an amazing photographer, friend of the podcast and in October of 2024 became the mother to a beautiful little baby girl. As a full-time wedding photographer and solo business owner, Katie has graciously (and very honestly!) come on the podcast and shared her story of managing the whole experience from finding out she was pregnant to returning to work after maternity leave.  We dive into how she broached the news with her clients, getting second shooters in to help and the absolute minefield that is planning for maternity leave with HMRC.  Katie leaves no stone unturned when it comes to KIT days, balancing motherhood and how being a parent has changed her whole perspective at weddings.  We can’t thank Katie enough for coming on the pod and sharing her knowledge about this with all of us. Whether you’re planning for a family of your own, or just need to be educated about working alongside pregnant photographers, there’s something in this episode for everyone. Clearly Wild Photography:Katie’s website: https://clearlywildphotography.comKatie’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clearlywildphotography/Other useful links:Nugget Savings: https://www.instagram.com/nuggetsavings/ The Wedding CoActive: https://www.instagram.com/theweddingcoactive/Keywords: maternity leave, motherhood, wedding photography, wedding photographer, maternity as a sole trader, kit days, wedding podcast, clearly wild.

    055: Our Unpopular Wedding Opinions

This week’e episode of the WCC might divide the crowd, but Chris & Tom go all-in on sharing their unpopular opinions as wedding creatives… There are definitely a few tongue-in-cheek moments in this one, but hopefully amongst the revelations, they’ll be something that leaves you screaming in agreement  and others that’ll make you feel totally seen as a wedding photographer or videographer. From drones being pointless, group shots being fun and why buying loads of kit can actually be a good thing; this episode was bags of fun to record and we also didn’t get to everything we thought of, which leaves it open for a part two in future!  We’d love to know your unpopular opinions as wedding creatives too, so feel free to DM us with yours, or leave them in the comments below Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastSay hi on Instagram: @weddingcapture.coKeywords: Unpopular Opinions, Wedding Photography, Wedding Videography, Drones, Group Photos, Wedding Traditions, Minimalist gear, confetti, destination weddings.

Sophie was beyond generous with her knowledge in this episode, so it’s definitely not one to be missed! We cover the importance of having a website as well as social media, how valuable good copy is to compliment design, good design VS good SEO practice and Sophie also shares her hacks on image sizing and video hosting on your website.Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastSay hi on Instagram: @weddingcapture.coKeywords: Wedding Photography, Wedding Videography, Wedding websites, Showit, Squarespace, Social Media, Re-branding, website design, copywriting.Where to find Sophie: Website: https://loyal-studio.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/loyalstudio/Sophie’s Template Store: https://loyal-studio.com/store

We get into a fascinating chat about an experiment Chris is running with dynamic pricing — what’s working, what’s not, and the age old debate of having prices on your site vs price upon enquiry. Finally, we finish things up with some chat around websites as Chris has recently moved away from Showit and rebuilt on Squarespace. It's a laid-back, honest episode packed with all the topics on the tongues of the wedding photo/video industry in May 2025.Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastSay hi on Instagram: @weddingcapture.coKeywords: Wedding Photography, Wedding Videography, Fujifilm X100IV, Film photography, Pricing Strategy, Creative Business, Website Hosting,  Showit, Squarespace, Camera Gear Chat, Wedding Industry Trends 2025

052: Adam Wing / Building Couple Connections, Losing Enquiries & Lessons from Wedding Planning

This week on Wedding Capture Co, we're joined by none other than Adam Wing — videographer, educator and recent speaker at this year’s TWVP Summit in Glasgow. Join is for an honest, inspiring and occasionally hilarious chat about life behind (and in front of) the lens.We kick things off with Adam’s story: how he got started in wedding videography, grew his brand, and built an online course that’s now helped countless creatives level up their filmmaking game. We then dive into one of the most important (and most misunderstood) parts of the job — the client experience.  From handling inquiries to building trust, Adam shares his unique approach to making couples feel looked after from day one (including that secret toilet trick... trust us, it’s genius). We also get real about the state of the industry right now — why some of us are seeing fewer enquiries this year, and how to adapt when things get quiet. To round things off, Adam shares a completely new perspective — what it’s like to plan his own wedding, and how being on the other side has reshaped how he thinks about his own service.Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WeddingCaptureCoPodcastSay hi on Instagram: @weddingcapture.coAdam’s Website: https://www.adamwingfilms.com/Adam has also very kindly given us a discount code for his product store and awesome videography course: Use WCC50 at checkout for 50% off everything! Keywords: Wedding Videography, Adam Wing, TWVP Summit, Wedding Filmmaking, Client Experience, Enquiry Strategy, Wedding Trends 2025, Creative Business, Wedding Planning, Online Education, Booking Process, Videographer PodcastTimestamps:(01:15) Meet Adam Wing: From Weddings to Educator(07:02) Creating a Course That Helps Other Creatives Thrive(13:26) Client Experience: Building Trust from Day One•••(18:48) The Toilet Trick (Yes, Really)(24:10) Quieter This Year? 050: TWVS, AI for Video & What's Next for the Pod?

After a brief break, we’re finally back with our 50TH EPISODE (which still feels bonkers to say) and there was so much to pack in that we’ve had to spread it across two parts! Thanks to everyone who sent us messages, voice notes and well wishes; we’re so grateful to have you all and can’t wait to answer those questions and address them all in part two. In those weeks between recording though, loads has happened and we have so much to fill you in on: Imagen have dropped a new colour grading feature for videographers, Chris has discovered the world of TikTok and we’ve both been doing some travelling for conferences, retreats and education. That leads us nicely onto the subject of ‘That Wedding Videographer Summit’ that we both flew up to Glasgow for and really enjoyed the experience. We chat over all the knowledge we got from the speakers, industry pros and most of all, getting to meet so many of you, our loyal listeners in the bar afterwards. Now that we’re all caught up, be sure to to tune in next Thursday for a special Part two to this episode, dedicated entirely to all of those wonderful messages you left.   Thanks again for all the love and see you in the next 50 episodes!

049: Is Technology Killing our Creativity?

I mean, it’s a valid question isn’t it? As we sit here in 2025 there’s never been a time with better camera tech, advanced software and AI tools to help us than there are now. But, with all of these helpful tools at our disposal, have they made it almost too easy to be a ‘lazy creative’ or not even have to be creative at all?In this episode Tom & Chris go back and forth over this interesting subject and offer our opinions on the matter: Are you more creative when you’re faced with limitations, whether they’re physical or with kit/software etc?Has having all this technology just lowered the bar of entry in our industry, rather than lower our creativity?Does it even matter if we’re not being creative at the weddings we’re shooting? If you have any opinions on this matter, we’d love to hear from you! Drop them in the comments below or drop us a DM on Instagram: @weddingcapture.co

048: Danny & Jason talk TWVP, The Summit & Branding

WCC x TWVP Crossover Episode:This week we’re back with a super cool crossover/collab episode with the boys from ‘That Wedding Videographer Podcast’.Danny & Jase are Scottish-based wedding videographers and co-hosts of the TWVP podcast. Starting in April 2024, they’ve already amassed a loyal following across the UK and are now only a few weeks away from their ever first Summit; an in-person education event taking place in Glasgow on April 1st with a stellar lineup of videography & industry names. In this episode we talk about how the guys became friends, how they came to start the podcast and the vision they had when they began. We also dive into that super impressive branding & setup they have and chat over the joys & rewards of running a podcast and interviewing guests. From there we do a full run down of the summit; how it came about, who it’s aimed at and what they hope the take-aways from the event will be.We also try and get them to spill the beans on who they’ve booked for next years event, so listen to the end to see how that goes!If you want to check out their podcast (which we highly recommend you do!) then the links are below:https://www.instagram.com/thatweddingvideographerpodcast/https://www.twvp.co.uk/

047: TWIA, Workflow Hacks & Fine Art

This week we’re back in our usual surroundings and having a good catch up over the events of the past few weeks…Chris took home Highly Commended at the National TWIA awards in the videography category, whilst Tom was on the other side of the pond on holiday. We also talk about some how AI (and ChatGPT specifically) has been a game changer for helping Chris build some big timesaving hacks into his workflows; so if you’re still playing catch up on 2024 edits, you’ll definitely want to hear about those and save some precious hours too. Finally Tom talks about a fine-art gallery project that he’s been working on over the winter and how working in a non-commercial environment has actually been really rewarding. It’s a great informal episode this week, perfect for a car journey or background whilst you edit.We also drop some BIG ideas for our 50th episode, which is drawing ever closer and we’d love your help with that. Thanks as always for all your love & support, and we’ll see you in the next one!

046: Hybrid Photo & Video with Hannah MacGregor

We’re back with another great episode, joined by our very first guest of 2025: the incredible Hannah MacGregor!Hannah is the absolute queen when it comes to hybrid shooting and also offers workshops of her own on this topic. After starting her business as solely a photographer, around 2017 she made the brave leap to learn videography and now offers a hybrid package; delivering both a full gallery of stills and a highlight video to her couples. In this episode we do a deep dive into how Hannah manages to capture so much of the day in both genres (often as a solo shooter) and the levels of organisation needed to pull this off so successfully. We also discuss how recording audio from the day and adding that to her films really took them to the next level and the power that sound & voice can have in harnessing real emotion from our couples. It’s a great conversation packed full of info, insight and the odd tangent along the way too. Huge thanks to Hannah for coming in to record (even with a broken foot!) and if you want to check out her incredible work, you can check it out here:Website: https://hannahmacgregor.co.uk/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hannah.macgregor.photo.film/Also, if you enjoyed this episode, don’t forget to like, subscribe and leave us a review!

    045: Are Your Enquries Down?

It’s our first recording session of 2025, so we’ve decided to tackle the question that seems to be on every wedding supplier’s lips right now…Are you finding enquiries slower than usual??It’s a valid topic and at a time of year where you’d usually have more work coming in than ever, why are so many of us seeing tumbleweeds rolling through our inboxes? And I guess the bigger question is: what we can do to change that??In this episode we offer our opinions on the subject, provide an honest insight into how things are looking in our own diary’s for 2025 and also what we’re doing to try and remedy that lack of contact from new prospective couples. We always try to offer a positive viewpoint and offer some hope in what might be an alarming time for some suppliers right now. We really do feel that this is something that will pass and as long as you keep on doing the work, that will lead to enquiries and bookings. If you enjoy this episode, please like, subscribe and rate the podcast, in order to help us grow!

044: Preparing for the 2025 Wedding Season

Even though it’s only the 2nd day of the New Year, we didn’t want to leave you waiting for our first episode of 2025, so here it is!!We think this is the perfect topic for a January episode and also an updated version of our very first episode that we dropped back in March 2023, so hopefully you’ll hear the improvement. In today’s episode, we’re talking about all those things we do to prepare ourselves, our equipment and our businesses for another busy year of capturing weddings. With most of us probably facing a couple of quieter months before thins really kick off, now is a great time to build new systems, adopt new habits and form new routines that’ll hopefully become mainstay as the season kicks off.We also (maybe controversially!?) think that getting some of these things in place may even be more important than tying up any loose ends of edits from 2024 and you’ll have to listen in to find out why!So if you find yourself staring at your laptop screen and not really knowing where to begin after the Christmas break, this could be the perfect episode to give you the guidance and motivation you need to make the most of this time and make 2025 your biggest and best year yet!

043: Our 2024 Year in Review

Here we are….our final episode of 2024 and our year in review. Firstly we just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for listening/watching and supporting us and these conversations. Over the 23 episodes we’ve released this year we’ve had 4 incredible guests, shared with you the highs & lows and hopefully imparted some knowledge along the way too. This episode is an amalgamation of all the above as we reflect on how this year has been, whether or not we hit the goals we set at the end of last year and what we’re planning to do with our businesses (and this podcast) in 2025. We also start the pod with some tech chat about our Black Friday purchases and (more importantly) sharing the amazing news that Chris won Best Videographer for the South Central region at TWIA!There’s loads to unpack in this episode and maybe you’ll hear some things that really resonate with in terms of how your year has faired too.As always, we’d love to hear from you and if you’ve set any goals for 2025, why not drop us a DM and let us know what they are so we can all be accountable together. Thanks again and see you in 2025!!

042: The Importance of Setting Expectations

Get your wedding videography contract here & use code UKWV50 for 50% off: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/wedding-videography-contractThis one is pretty big one and I don’t think we even realised how HUGE a subject this was until we dove right in…From the very first time a couple set eyes on your business, until the day you deliver their wedding, they’ve built an expectation in their head based on everything they’ve seen, heard and experienced from you along the way. I love to think that we all want to wildly exceed our couples expectations and give them a service beyond anything they ever thought possible when they booked you for their day.Sadly that sometimes isn’t the case and it’s all too easy to blame that on our clients for having too bigger dreams about what their wedding could be. In this episode we flip that theory on it’s head and offer the mindset that this only happens by poorly managing our clients expectations throughout that journey…In this episode we cover how we keep those expectations in check by the copy on our websites, the thing we cover in the initial call, right the way through to portfolio curation, a detailed contract, FAQ’s and everything in between. If you’re NOT driving whilst listening and fancy a fun drinking game, every time we say the word expectation, take a shot!!

041: Holiday Lessons, Coda & The Changing Industry

Now that we’re back from our USA holiday, we have a little catch-up on our recent adventure, what we got up too and also some business learnings that came from our time on the cruise. We also throw in a teeny bit of holiday camera chat as would it even be the Capture Co, if Chris didn’t buy yet another camera to go on holiday with?? We’re also entering the closing months of the year and our sights are firmly on the booking situation for 2025; because of this we reflect on the shifting state of our industry when it comes to enquires, bookings and the immediacy that’s become expected from us in replying. Is this the new norm or just a race to the bottom?Lastly Chris’ gives us his opinions on last month’s awesome Coda conference; (the very first event if it’s kind solely for videographers in the UK) all the knowledge bombs he got from the speakers, the astounding feedback he got from you guys about the pod and also the warm glow of being surrounded by so many like-minded individuals, wanting that community feeling. Thanks so much to everyone who said hi at Coda and huge respect to Ron Films for putting on such an amazing event!

    040: Our Pre Wedding Rituals

Ever had that fear that you’ve left the house without any SD cards in your cameras?Do you leave it until the morning of a wedding to check the route or fill the car with petrol??We all have our own quirky methods and levels of preparation when it comes to doing our jobs; so we thought it’d be a fun episode to chat over the things we do in the weeks, days (and in some cases!) hours before we leave the house to go and shoot a wedding. In this episode we discuss our pre-wedding questionnaires, packing kit, charging batteries and even the best time to buy your wedding day snacks! It’s a real fun one and a great insight, not only into how we run our business’ but also our slightly OCD traits when it comes to being organised. We’d love to hear your pre-wedding rituals too, so feel free to comment with yours, or even DM us over on Instagram: @weddingcaptureco

038: Is it the Best Time to Be a Wedding Videographer?

We have a couple of spaces left on our Branding & Marketing Workshop in November, so if you’re wanting to level up your website and marketing over the winter, then this is the perfect day for you! All the info and ticket link can be found here: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcast  Sat here at the end of the summer, tired from a busy season and drowning in edits, it might not feel like you have the best job in the world right now, but could this moment in time truly be the best time to be a wedding videographer??It’s definitely an interesting question and we dive into a few different reasons why this might be the case…• Coda Conference is coming up and is going to be HUGE for building community and inspiration in wedding videographers.• Cameras capable of making great video content are more affordable than ever, so is the point of entry for video is the lowest it’s ever been?• We know content creators are really going to erupt in 2025, so will that raise the overall bar and perceived value of wedding films and videography? We dive into all this and so much more in our quest to give you an honest opinion of this burning question!

037: 2025 Struggles, Filming in Lake Como & Wedding Fatigue

Tickets to our workshop are limited and available now at: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcastHow things can change so fast!!We went from both feeling really in control and ahead on recording, to only sitting down to make this episode around 48hrs before we release it…That feeling definitely steers the course of this episode as we wave goodbye to summer and move into autumn/winter weddings.Whilst we feel that we’ve both had incredible summers making some of our best work, we’d be lying if we said that hasn’t taken a toll and feeling a little fatigued for the final push through a busy September.Chris is now back from Lake Como and he reflects on his time in Italy and the lessons learnt from a destination wedding of this calibre. Make sure to listen in for his learnings of this amazing experience and whether or not he’ll be marketing for more in the future. We also talk about the struggles and changes of booking patterns for 2025 and how we think the landscape for couples booking their days have changed. We’re both seeing a huge rise in midweek bookings and shorter booking periods, so we share some of our thoughts on how to navigate and prepare for this shift. Lastly (and most excitingly!) we still have workshop tickets left and would love to sell it out!!If you’re looking to change up your branding or marketing plans for 2025/26 then this one-day masterclass would be perfect for you!!Tuesday 19th November at Cosy Club in Guilford, we’ll be talking all things website, branding and marketing with a live website review on the day.Tickets are limited and available now at: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcast

036: Prepping for Como, Google Gate & New Gear

If you’re anything like us, you’re pretty much hitting the peak of your season and this episode is the result of an epic catch up after a busy month of shooting weddings. We recorded this on the eve of Chris’ trip to Lake Como for a destination wedding and all the preparation that has gone into preparing for this trip.If you’re new to the destination market, or trying to market for your first destination wedding, we pull back the curtains on the reality of these weddings and highlight maybe some of the less glamorous parts of what can seen as the pinnacle of the weddings to attract. We also address the well-documented ‘Google-gate’ that struck our industry and the issues surrounding that. We started this podcast to help build community amongst wedding creatives and the very fact that this was caused by people within our industry led to some quite strong opinions from us on this one.Lastly, we round the episode off with a little nerd-out over some new things that we’ve both bought and implemented into our kit bags over the past few weeks.Tickets for our workshop are still on sale too, so if you’d like to learn from us, the link for that can be found here: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcast

035: Mental Health Matters with Mac Videography

Tickets for our next Branding & Marketing workshop are now live and available at: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcastTuesday 19th November 2024 at Cosy Club, Guildford: 10am-5pm.This week we’re back with another incredible guest and a topic that we feel isn’t discussed enough in a public forum like this.Mike from Mac Videography is a Kent based film maker and previous winner of the prestigious TWIA’s UK Videographer of the Year award. But despite running a successful business, winning awards and shooting weddings in amazing venues, Mike (as with many of us too,) has still had his share of struggles with overwhelm, burnout and anxiety from the pressures of doing this job.As you’ll hear in the episode, Mike kindly shares some great tips for how he’s managed to overcome this and find balance between work, family life and happiness. We’re both so grateful to Mike for coming on the podcast and open up so candidly and honestly about this sensitive subject. We hope this conversation stands as an education piece to those who are fairly new to the industry and a lifeline to others who may be having similar thoughts at this point in the season and know they’re not alone. We’re far from mental health experts and always suggest that if you are seriously struggling, then please seek professional help, but when Mike approached us with this subject for the episode, we were both in 100% agreement that it was a conversation that is much needed and hope will be a comfort and help to you. Do you really need a Second Shooter at weddings? We drop some pretty exciting news that WE’RE HOSTING ANOTHER WORKSHOP!!After the success of our first one back in May, we’ve had a few requests for a repeat, so we’ll be back at Cosy Club on 19th November doing the branding & marketing workshop again. For more info on the day and how to grab your ticket, visit: https://spiceweddingfilms.com/podcastNow onto second shooting, It’s one of those topics that we both have different opinions on, so what better way to answer this question than make a full episode out of it!Wherever you sit on this subject, hopefully you’ll enjoy the conversation and it’ll maybe even make you ask yourself that burning question. It’s a pretty broad subject that differs massively between photo & video, the size of weddings you’re working and also how confident you are as a solo shooter. We do a pretty deep dive into why we shoot the way we do, the pros & cons of both and the task of finding the right person to second for you.

033: TWIA Founder Damian Bailey talks Awards, Legacy & Self Discipline

That’s right, we’re back with another guest episode, in the form of TWIA founder & wedding photographer Damian Bailey.Alongside being a full-time wedding photographer, Damian founded The Wedding Industry Awards back in 2011 and it’s now become THE award to win amongst wedding vendors in the UK.We do a deep dive on the lengths Damian & his team go to make this the fairest and most credible awards of its kind.We also talk about what makes a good entry and a few good tips at making the most attractive entry if you’re thinking of entering this years awards.Away from TWIA, Damian also runs a full-time wedding photography business as well as a super cool legacy experience called Back Story.Wearing so many hats at work definitely comes with its challenges, so Damian kindly shares some tips on work life balance and how he manages to be successful across all of his many business ventures. It’s a great episode with plenty of useful knowledge, whether you’re familiar with TWIA or hearing about it for the first time.If you want to find out more about TWIA, Damian or Back Story, here are the links for you:https://www.the-wedding-industry-awards.co.uk/https://www.damianbailey.comhttps://www.back-story.co.uk/

    032: You're not a documentary photographer!

Well…this episode ended up taking quite an unexpected turn!!When we sat down to record, we planned on making a fairly light-hearted chat about how we’re holding up in the height of busy season and the things that we’re dealing with. What actually happened is we got to the topic of ‘reading the room’ and that ended up moulding the shape of the entire episode! This topic is on the lips of a lot of wedding creatives at the moment and we obviously both have strong enough feelings about it to make it dominate the conversation of this chat.-How difficult can it be on a wedding day if the photographer and videographer have different views on how to capture the moments??-Is there a right or wrong when it comes to capturing moments naturally or re-creating moments just for the camera?-Are we as creatives being totally honest about how we capture these moments to our couples in the lead up to the wedding? We both felt so much better after recording this episode and sharing our views on this idea of ‘reading the room’ and just how important that is as a skill for a wedding creative.Hopefully you’ll find yourself screaming back at the speaker as you listen and we’d absolutely LOVE to hear your views on this crowd-dividing opinion.

031: Churches, Websites & Getting Locked Out!

Episode 031: Churches, Websites & Getting Locked Out!As we enter the midst of the season, a few things have happened to us both at weddings recently that sparked the topics of discussion in this episode… We’ve both literally just had church ceremonies to capture and share our opinions on the recent debate around vicars and the restrictions they can impose. Are they really as bad as the media made out or are we as photographers & videographers just as much to blame?Chris has also completely overhauled his website and rebuilt it on the Showit platform, so he goes in depth on what a HUGE task it is to undertake during wedding season, but how rewarding and beneficial it is to have an up-to-date site that you’re proud of and showcases your style best. There’s also a hilarious story about Chris getting locked out of a venue during a wedding and some recent purchase tech-talk thrown in for good measure. This is a really fun, casual conversation that you’ve come to expect from the WCC and we hope you enjoy!

030: Finding Your Style & Standing Out

In this week’s episode we rip open the can of worms that is ’having a style’ and what that even means anyway!?The word ‘style’ can encompass so many things in terms of approach/branding/ethos etc and we touch on all these points and more as we dive into this vast topic. - Do you need to have a style when you first set up?- How do you define your style and should you stick to it forever?- Can you just copy someone else’s style to be trendy?- Can your style vary from wedding to wedding? We also discuss our own style journeys and the breakthroughs we’ve had in forming our styles over the years. As always we’d love to hear from you guys on this, do you agree with everything we say? Drop your thoughts in the comments below….Don’t forget to like, subscribe and leave us a review too!

029: Roo Films talks Coda, TWIA & Video Gear!

This is a HUGE episode and another milestone for us here at Wedding Capture Co…Today’s episode is our 2nd time having a guest and very first videographer guest, in the form of the incredible Ron Stain (AKA Roo Films). Roo is a UK based wedding videographer, winner of TWIA’s Wedding Videographer of the Year in 2024 and co-founder of the hotly anticipated Coda conference that launches in October. In this near 2 hour chat, we dive into Roo’s thoughts on his TWIA win, the doors that winning this prestigious title has opened, as well as some great advice on what makes a great entry if you’re thinking of entering too. From there (past ALOT of sidetones and video chat) we move onto talking about how the Coda conference came about, teaming up with the Ninedots guys to help make it happen and the incredible response to it’s announcement. It’s an incredible achievement to sell out an inaugural conference in the pre-sale alone, which is testament to the lineup that they’ve put together and Roo’s dedication to making it a huge success. Even if you’re a photographer, don’t be put off listening as there is so many awesome and transferable takeaways in here, you definitely won’t want to miss it. 028: Discussing the Workshop & Our Next Guest!

It’s now been just over a week since we hosted our (very first!) workshop, so we wanted to use this week’s episode as an opportunity to reflect on how that incredible day went, but also give a more general thank you to you guys; our amazing Wedding Capture Co audience at the same time ❤️We’re also over a year into doing this podcast now and realised that we’ve never really stopped to look back at how far we’ve come; to celebrate our community and share our gratitude for what we’ve both gained, just by having these recorded conversations every couple of weeks. The workshop itself couldn’t have gone better, so we share some insight into how it came about, the lengths we went too in making the content and also our joy in the response we got from the attendees on the day.We also muse about the prospect of doing another workshop and using any feedback from our first rodeo, to make the next one even better! We also drop some news about the very cool guest we have on our next episode of the WCC, so be sure to listen to the end to find out who that is….

Does anyone actually like admin??If you’re struggling to stay on top of email enquiries, sending contracts, missing invoices and knowing whose wedding you’re supposed to be attending next, then this episode is definitely for you!!After a brief catchup, we dive into the life changing world of using a CRM and how it’s transformed the efficiency of our business. As creatives, we want to spend as much time doing the fun part of our job (shooting & editing) and not tackling a huge pile of admin that comes with the job. Well, we no longer worry about organising new leads, finding questionnaires or getting double booked as we basically have a robot that does it for us! Full disclaimer, this episode is pretty much based around Studio Ninja, as that’s the CRM we both use.We talk through some of the features we use most, what we like and dislike about it as well as manifest them becoming the first sponsor of the WCC!If you do want to give Studio Ninja a try, you get a free month, then use this code to get 20% off!! 026: Purchases we Made for the 2024 Wedding Season

I’m not sure there is really any accurate title for this week’s episode, as we dive into so many things in this one! When we sat down to record, we wanted to talk about a few recent purchases that we’ve both made, now that things are picking up with our 2024 wedding seasons. We recently shot another wedding together too, so we talk about the fun of that day and touch briefly (again) on our ideal clients and share the success that our upcoming workshop has now sold out! From there on in, it all gets a little bit techy (but in the loosest sense of the word) and we talk about the wonders of Apple’s M chip, both buying iPad minis, shooting Polaroids and debate whether or not the Rayban Metas are the best tool for capturing BTS content at weddings in 2024.This one is a wild ride, so be sure to buckle up before pressing play and we hope you enjoy!
