#17: What is Visual Processing?

from Executive Function Brain Trainer Podcast · host Darius Namdaran and Dr Erica Warren

Visual processing is a cognitive skill that allows us to interpret and find meaning from visual images. In other words, it is how we make sense of what we see. Visual processing is vital because it plays a key role in learning visual information from our environment. It is a fundamental skill for reading, math, and spelling. Visual processing involves a number of cognitive processing skills:  Visual Discrimination - the ability to tell the difference between images that are similar but not the same.  Visual Directionality - the ability to discriminate between left and right and objects or images that are facing left or right.  Visual Memory - the ability to remember what one has seen. Visual Sequencing - the ability to remember the order of a series of visual stimuli.  Visual Closure - the ability to understand images when some parts of the image are missing.  Visual Reasoning - the ability to analyze visual information and find meaning.  Visual Synthesis - the ability to assemble visual parts or pieces into a whole.  Visual-Spatial - the ability to make sense of visual information in space and the orientation of the objects in that space.  Visual Figure-Ground - the ability to find or detect an image when there are many overlapping images within the visual field. Links:  Visual Processing Activities: https://goodsensorylearning.com/collections/visual-processing  A Visual Processing Workshop: https://www.learningspecialistcourses.com/courses/a-visual-processing-workshop  Following Directions the Fun and Easy Way: https://goodsensorylearning.com/search?type=product&q=following+Directions  Pass the Plate and other visualization games: https://goodsensorylearning.com/products/mindful-visualization-for-learning-document?_pos=1&_sid=c668c041f&_ss=r  Executive Functioning Assessment: https://mymemorymentor.com/efcs/  One to one sessions with Dr. Warren: https://learningtolearn.biz/  One to one sessions with Darius: www.ivvi.app BulletMap Academy: https://bulletmapacademy.com/ Learning Specialist Courses:https://www.learningspecialistcourses.com/ Executive functions and Study Skills Course: https://www.learningspecialistcourses.com/courses/teaching-EF-and-study-strategies  Good Sensory Learning: https://goodsensorylearning.com/ Executive Functionings for Groups and Classes: https://tinyurl.com/4sx3eh3fhttps://www.learningspecialistcourses.com/courses/executive-functioning-games-for-groups-and-classes   Dyslexia Productivity Coaching: http://dyslexiaproductivitycoaching.com/ Cognitive Flexibility: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/dyslexia-and-executive-function  Dyslexia Quiz: https://bulletmapacademy.com/dyslexia-quiz/ Inhibitory Control: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/poor-executive-functioning?_pos=3&_sid=19d2b3888&_ss=r  Metacognition: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/teaching-metacognitive-skills?_pos=1&_sid=8c4ed9b58&_ss=r  Visualization: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/the-key-to-improved-attention-and-memory-for-optimal-learning?_pos=8&_sid=a9d61809a&_ss=r  Inner Voice: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/inner-voice-app?_pos=1&_sid=604e0b13e&_ss=r  Working Memory: https://goodsensorylearning.com/blogs/news/tagged/working-memory Brought to you by: https://ivvi.app https://goodsensorylearning.com https://learningspecialistcourses.com https://goodsensorylearning.com/products/executive-functioning-coaching-assessment https://dropintoyourbestself.com/ www.learningtolearn.biz
