Season 2, Episode 3: Dr Adriaan van der Walt

from Revise, Rebut & Resubmit · host Jenniferfitchett

When Dr Adriaan van der Walt registered for his PhD by publication in 2017, he was undertaking to complete his first degree in English. Until then he had only studied, and published academic research, in Afrikaans. As you can tell from his title, he was successful. So successful, indeed, that he passed with very minor revisions, and published four papers from his PhD. Adriaan is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of the Free State, serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Biometeorology, and is the mentee Associate Editor: Earth and Environment for the South African Journal of Science. He has published in some of the top local and international journals, including the South African Journal of Science, the South African Geographical Journal, Theoretical and Applied Climatology and the International Journal of Climatology Adriaan's first (English language) paper can be found here: http://www.scielo.org.za/pdf/sajs/v116n9-10/14.pdf And his full Google Scholar profile can be found here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=8d7u-goAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao This podcast is generously supported by GENUS: The DSI-NRF Centre for Palaeosciences

From driver upda EDIT HISTORY Cheryl Lau EDIT HISTORY is a podcast about the ideas that matter - and the people who built them. We zoom in on the actual argument: the question they started with, what the evidence forced them to revise, and what must change if they're right.Every guest has done the work. Some in universities. Some in courtrooms, clinics, or boardrooms. What they share is this: they arrived at a position - and they can defend it.One-line pitch: "What question were you trying to answer - and if you're right, what must change?"The problem it solves: Most podcasts interview people about their journey. Brilliant research stays trapped in journals. Thought leadership gets diluted into hot takes. EDIT HISTORY bridges scholarship and society - making serious ideas impossible to ignore.---EDIT HISTORY won 2x at the 2025 Asia Podcast Awards (by Radioinfo Asia) in the "Best Education Podcast" and "Best Money and Business Podcast" categories. It was also shortlisted for the 2024 Asia Podcast Awards (by Radioinfo Asia Padhle Beta!!
