A Colorful Life with Keiko Roy-Carey
by Keiko Roy-Carey
8 billion humans equals 8 billion ways to live a life. Curiosity led me to create this podcast that explores what it means to be human with some of the most interesting and reflective people I’ve met along my journey. There is so much complexity, beauty and knowledge that we can glean from each life story. My hope is that, in listening to these stories, you'll begin to see life as a canvas and you, the artist who chooses the colors. You don't just live a life, you can create it. Why not make it colorful? Listen anywhere you get your podcasts, and share your review if you enjoy it.

On Congo to Carolina, Bridging Worlds & Representation as Purpose with Gody Zayobi
In this episode, I sat down with Gody Zayobi, my college friend and impromptu French tutor from our days living on the same floor in the service and leadership residential learning community. Gody shares his journey of immigrating from Congo to North Carolina and learning English through immersion with little support. We talk about his passion for soccer and coaching youth, the importance of representation in his coaching and educational roles, and his commitment to advocating for multicultural needs and accommodations.Gody opens up about what he misses about Congo, making a life for himself in the US and his journey as a recently married man. He beautifully describes how graduating university and visiting Congo more frequently allowed him to be "born again in the family" - reintroducing himself and learning who his siblings have become in their adulthood. This was a heartfelt conversation about bridging two worlds, the power of reconnection, and finding purpose through serving others.

On Generations, Grace & Growing Still with Dr. Jerrold Roy Part 2 of 2
In this second part of my conversation with Dr. Jerrold Roy, my uncle Jerry takes us deeper into the roots of our family's resilience. He shares powerful stories about my grandfather's entrepreneurial spirit: from running a photography studio that captured memories for Black families, to owning a grocery store that grossed six figures in the 1970s. Through these stories, my uncle reveals where his own audacity and courage as a Black man navigating predominantly white spaces came from: our ancestors who refused to be limited. But this conversation gets beautifully vulnerable as my uncle J reflects on love, relationships, and the inner work we all must do. He opens up about a conflict with one of his brothers that taught him profound lessons about projection and taking responsibility for our own hearts. In his 70s, he's still growing, still learning, still becoming. What a testament to the grace that flows through generations! This is more than family history, it's a masterclass in resilience, vulnerability, and the ongoing work of being human. Let it inspire you to dig deeper into your own family stories and never stop growing, no matter your age.

On The Lesson in Silence, Existential Exploration & Educating Today’s Youth with Blakeley Terral
In this episode with my university friend, Blakeley, we discuss all things existential. Blakeley shares his experience of being forced to spend three months in silence due to breaking his jaw during a rugby game. He opens up about his journey of figuring out how to live a life of meaning and one where he continuously asks the question, "how can I be useful?" This exploration led him into teaching English in Chile, then backpacking through Peru and eventually moving to France. For the past few years, Blakeley has been living in New Orleans and teaching history. In this exchange, you'll hear us talk about the aura of nihilism that seems to surround today's youth as the world continues to change shape. Blakeley's story of asking difficult life questions and, at times, existing his way into a sense of purpose, is one we can all glean from. This conversation is for you if you're in search of purpose, enjoy stories of adventure, are raising youth or are ready to lean into some self-reflection. A Colorful Life Retreat | Interest page

On Gratitude in the Midst of Heartbreak, Platonic Love & Reclaiming a Sense of Self with Jenny Tung
This is a conversation with my Kiwi (New Zealander) friend, Jenny. I met Jenny in 2014 while she was on a three-year solo trip around the world. We found ourselves as roommates for a week volunteering in an English language immersion program in Poland, where we formed a deep connection which has carried our long-distance friendship all of these years. Jenny shares her heart with us as she recounts the end of a five year relationship. She talks about therapy, how her friends came to her rescue, feeling gratitude while heartbroken, and being in the thick of a spiritual journey. There are so many raw and vulnerable moments in this episode as Jenny so generously brings us into her experience of losing herself in a relationship, grieving it's end and then reclaiming her independence and zest for life. Heartbreak can feel like the world is closing in on us, it is a universal experience. This episode is for all of us because we all have a heart, and it is a rite of passage for it to break many times over. May you see yourself in Jenny and may her courage to choose to fall in love with herself and begin again serve as the sign you needed to do the same. *Profanity warning Jenny | Instagram Jenny | LinkedIn A Colorful Life Retreat | Interest page
