A Word of Light Ministries

Here at A Word of Light Ministries we have a desire to see people's lives changed through the Word of God. We have been entrusted with the mandate to spread the gospel and we don't take that mandate likely. The Word of God has the power to overcome any situation that people may find themselves in, and that is the hope that we bring to all those who will listen.

Don't Trip Out Over The Method

If we ask God for a meal, we can't dictate how He chooses to deliver said meal. Whether it's through a friend, a restaurant, or providing us with the ingredients, all the above results in the meal being provided.    In today's sermon, we learn how to be mindful of when God is answering our prayers. Even when it comes differently than how we expected.   ---------- We're on a journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Why do we make decisions without involving God first? Simply put, we're afraid to let go of what's in our hands. Following God requires us to release what's in our hands, and trust that He has our best interest at the forefront of His mind.   In today's sermon, we continue to discuss the importance of our obedience to God and the impact that can have on our lives. ---------- We're on a journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. We can't afford to take the same bad habits into 2025. Whatever habits we create, must be habits that are pleasing to God. The only way for this to happen is to give God first dibs of ourselves. Bake Me A Little Cake First // pt 1

When Elijah asked the widow to "bake me a little cake first," it wasn't about the cake; it was about being obedient to God's voice through His prophet. Often when God asks us to do something, it's rarely about the task. The test lies in the obedience to God's word.     In today's sermon, we discuss the importance of our obedience to God and the impact that can have on our lives. ---------- We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Who Do You/They Say That I Am?

One day, Jesus asked His disciples two questions: "Who do people say that I am?" and "Who do you say that I am?" These questions are important as it relates to sustaining our walk with Jesus. It's important that we know exactly who we are following. How can we trust someone if we have no idea who they are? More importantly, if we don't know who Jesus is for ourselves, then we can become easily swayed by other people's negative comments about Jesus. In today's sermon, we discuss the importance of knowing exactly who Jesus is.   ---------- We're on a journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Pivoting

The dictionary defines a pivot "as a shaft or pin on which something turns." In life, there will be times when we must adjust our lives and/or plans due to unforeseen circumstances. During this shift in our lives, it is important that Jesus remains at the center of our decisions. Jesus must be our pivot. If not, our lives will spin off its axle. In today's sermon, we discuss how to keep Jesus at the center of our lives.   ---------- We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Have Faith in God // pt. 2

For us to have faith in God, we must first familiarize ourselves with His word and be in constant communication with Him. Otherwise, we won't know Him enough to trust Him. Not trusting in God will result in us relying in ourselves, which will lead to some mistakes. Knowing God's word puts us in a position to lean on Him when times inevitably get tough. Have Faith in God // pt. 1

When we walk into a building, we have faith that the building will keep us safe. We demonstrate faith in its structural integrity by our willingness walk in the building. Walking in the building is an acknowledgment that we submit to its design. This is how we must handle our relationship with God. We must be willing to have faith in God and submit to His design for our lives, knowing that He will keep us safe. God's Will

The devil thrives in our self-confidence. In fact, he wants us to become so self-confident that we no longer rely on God in our everyday lives. This is when we get ourselves into trouble. This is when we fall into sin. This is when we stray so far away from him that we make terrible life altering decisions.   In today's sermon, we discuss how staying in God's will protects us from ourselves. ---------- We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Resist The Devil, Reduce The Struggle.

Let's be honest. Most of the problems we encounter are self-inflicted. We often struggle in life because we don't take the time to fortify our spiritual defenses. Life has a way of slowly chipping away at our armor. If we're not intentional about routine repairs, we run the risk of our defenses weakening. When this happens, our resistance runs low, ultimately setting us up for failure. In today's sermon, we discuss how resisting the devil is the key to living a life that is almost free of self-induced struggle. ------------ We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Healthy Heart // pt 2

There's an expression about having "itching ears." In its slang form, having "itching ears" means that a person is eager to hear any and everything. In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Paul wrote, "For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths." The key to having a healthy heart is to not allow it to develop "itching ears." In today's sermon, we continue to explore how nurturing our spiritual health is essential to our walk with God. Just as we avoid certain foods, we need to guard our ears to avoid unhealthy audio. To achieve this, our hearts must remain postured towards God as we have to rely on Jesus Christ to maintain a healthy heart. Healthy Heart // pt. 1

Just as we take care of our natural heart, Jesus helps us take care of our spiritual heart. In today's sermon, we explore how nurturing our spiritual health is essential to our walk with God. Just as we exercise and eat well to maintain our physical hearts, God calls us to tend to our spiritual hearts. But remember, we are unable to accomplish that in our own strength, we must rely on Jesus Christ to maintain a healthy heart. Choose To Push Through The Crowd

Sometimes we just must push through. In the cases of [blind] Bartimaeus and the Woman with The Issue of Blood, they had to push through the crowd and the noise to reach Jesus. Caleb and Joesph had to wait 40 years for a promise to be fulfilled. How long are you willing to wait? How willing are you to push the crowd and the noise? How willing are you to shut out all your surroundings and allow Jesus to take over? Join us as we explore what it takes to push through the crowd to receive what God has in store for you. Seek God for What You Need, Not for What You Want x 5

In our previous episode, we discussed how God will always operate according to His will. Following God's path may seem stressful at first, but He truly knows what's best for us. In this episode, we discuss how whatever we ask in the name of Jesus, Jesus will grant said request. The fine print is this, Jesus' objective was to do the will of the Father. Everything He said and did was for one purpose, to bring glory and honor to God, His Father. We often become frustrated when our requests are not granted. Rather than becoming frustrated, we should ask ourselves if our request lines up with the will of God. Sometimes, doing His will means that we must lay ours down. Are you willing to dismiss your will, to have the will of God be lived out through you. Postscript: We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Seek God for What You Need, Not For What You Want x 4

In our previous episode, we discussed how being a sheep in the flock of the Lord gives us peace. In this episode, we discuss how our lives are a demonstration of the character of our Shephard. The sooner we can accept that, the more peace we'll experience while following him. God will always operate according to His will. Following God's path may seem stressful at first, but He truly knows what's best for us. Pastor drives this point home by sharing a story about how a detour that him and his wife took resulted with him having to walk around with one shoe (temporarily). Seek God For What You Need, Not For What You Want x 3

In our previous episode, we discussed how Jesus was able to remain effective by submitting His will on Earth to God's will in Heaven. Today, we continue to explore how to seek God for our needs, and not our wants. The Psalmist David explains how being a sheep in the flock of the Lord gives him peace. No matter what occurred, the Shephard always took care of him, even in the valley. Our prayers should mimic the sentiment of David. We seek God knowing that He, our Shephard, will take care of us; the same way He took care of David. Seek God For What You Need, Not For What You Want x 2

In our previous episode, we explored how to avoid vain prayers by posturing our hearts in humility. Today, we discuss how to pray like Jesus. We discuss how Jesus intentionally submitted His will on Earth, to the will of God in Heaven. Jesus remained effective because He only concerned Himself with the needs of that day, as demonstrated in The Lord's Prayer. If we intend on having similar results as Jesus, we too need to pray according to His will and for things relevant to the current situation. Seek God For What You Need, Not For What You Want (Vain Repetition) x 1

Vain: (1) having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievements: (2) marked by futility or ineffectualness: Before you pray, ensure that your heart is clothed in humility. You can't hustle God. You can't impress God with your vocabulary. He could not care less about your ability to string together compound-complex sentences. Even if your prayer is a verbal dissertation that would impress the greatest scholars and theologians; if the posture of your heart is vain, God will not hear you. In fact, you have received your reward. Join us as we explore what happens when our prayers become vain, and how to avoid vain repetition.   Postscript: We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. The Plan, God's Plan (part 2)

In our previous episode, we embarked on a journey to explore what it means to follow God's plan. We explored how God's wisdom is abundant and available to us, but in exchange, we must be willing to surrender our own plans and submit ourselves to His divine guidance. Today, we continue this exploration, focusing on the beautiful exchange of man's plan for God's plan.   Exchange Man's Plan for God's Plan:   The most remarkable aspect of embracing God's plan is the undeniable truth that God is holy and completely trustworthy. When we exchange our limited, imperfect plans for His divine blueprint, we are placing our trust in the one who knows all, sees all, and loves us unconditionally. His holiness is the foundation upon which we build our lives, and His trustworthiness is the assurance that we are walking the right path.   Postscript:   We're on an incredible journey of exchanging our plans for God's plan and embracing His holiness. Let Wisdom Govern Your Strengths

Samson had a problem. He continuously turned his strengths into his weakness. Which ultimately led to his capture and the gouging out of his eyes. Samson could not afford to reveal his weakness, but he did. We are no different.  Join us this episode to learn about Samson and look at him as a cautionary tale. As the scripture states, "Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall (1 Corinthians 10:12 - CSB)." Do You Care About Your Neighbor?

Our command is to love as our neighbor as ourselves. But here's the catch, we don't get to pick our neighbor (Luke 10:25-37).  As this is our command, here are the three things we need in order to love our neighbor. Ask for a burden. Realize the urgency. Must be willing.  We can never get to point of being The Good Samaritan if we don't care about others. Join us this episode as we learn what it takes to be the neighbor that Christ commands.  For more information, visit https://www.awolministries.org Follow us on Instagram: @awolministries

    Effectual Fervent Prayer (pt. 3)

Join us this episode as we continue to explore how Elijah prayed. We've established that in order for our prayers to be effective, we must learn how to pray God's way. In this episode, we explore yet another requirement for having out prayers answered: presenting ourselves [to God] as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). We want God to answer our prayers (every time), but are we willing to pay the price to have those prayers answered? Effectual Fervent Prayer

We often pray according to what we want. We pray for our will. If we want our prayers to be effective, we have to pray God's way (like Elijah). There's no way around it. It's Time To Go Public With This

A relationship with Jesus is a relationship that you can't keep a secret. Jesus requires that He goes with you everywhere that you go. This is not up for debate. There's a good reason though. We can't keep him a secret because society needs Him. Society needs Jesus, and we are the ones who must carry His message to all people, in all communities (Matthew 28: 19-20). Yes, even the ones you look down upon. Join us this episode as we explore how to go public with Jesus. I Am The Lord's Servant (If The Lord Wills)

What does it mean to be a servant of Jesus, and are you willing to do what's necessary to be His servant? Being a servant of Jesus will require our most prized possession, our will. When the Lord (or His servant) approaches you, will you respond like Mary by saying, I am the Lord's servant, and I am willing to accept whatever He wants (Luke 1:38) or will you walk away like many others? Does Submission Offend You?

The Bible, though beautiful, can be very offensive to those who take issue with submitting to Its authority. Once Jesus has called someone into His fold, the Bible becomes a non-negotiable, and one must willingly submit to Its contents. Join us this episode as we explore what it means to truly submit to scripture while not being offended in the process. Leave The Past Behind (pt. 1)

The past is interesting. On one hand, it is something that we can glean from to make us better. On the other hand, the past can quickly become a trap that hinders our development and growth. Though the past can be helpful, if we intend on moving forward in life, we must learn to leave it behind.   Join us this episode as we explore how to move beyond our past.  For more information about A Word of Light Ministries, visit https://www.awolministries.org or follow us on Instagram: @awolministries  *Note: Please excuse the audio as there are some sections that contain some pops and slight distortion.

To Follow Jesus, You Have To Come Clean

When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He wants all of us. Not a portion…all. If we are to have a successful walk with Him, we have to come clean.  Note: Our deepest apologies: there were some technical difficulties which resulted in the rest of the audio being unusable. Bondage or Freedom

There's an adage about "sticks and stones." Though this may sound profitable on its surface, we can't afford to ignore that words can direct us into bondage or freedom. While action does have to be attached to our confession, speaking is the first step. Please don't allow your own words to prevent you from experiencing freedom and peace in Jesus Christ   For more information about A Word of Light Ministries, visit awolministries.org or follow us on Instagram. Gradual Decline

Have you ever placed a leaf or a stick on a calm body of water? Have you watched the object(s) for a while only to notice that the object(s) have not moved? What would happen if you decided to run errands? Upon return, you will undoubtedly notice that those objects have since drifted far into the middle of this body of water; the drift was gradual. The same happens with our faith when we disconnect ourselves from communication with God and community. One day we love God, next thing we know, we have drifted so far from Him, that we no longer recognize His voice.   Stay Connected: awolministries.org IG: @awolministries

The V*rus Is Not Our Only Concern

The v*rus is very real and should be treated with the utmost severity. Unfortunately, the v*rus is not the only problem that we must face on a day-to-day basis. We must continue to trust Jesus to lead and guide us throughout each situation that inundates our lives.

    Jesus Didn't Flinch

Jesus faced a difficult choice; endure excruciating pain and death for the salvation of mankind, or walk away and disobey God, the Father. We all know what path Jesus chose and we forever grateful that He made that choice. We are forever grateful that not only did Jesus not run away from the challenges He faced, but when He encountered those challenges, He didn't flinch. -- Stay Connected IG: @awolministries awolministries.org
