Around and Around - The OCD Circle

Welcome to Around and Around – The OCD Circle. My name is Elizabeth and I have been living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for over 60 years. I am not a therapist or a member of the medical community. I’m just an ordinary person like yourself, who will be sharing my thoughts and experiences with you, with the hope that you will feel less alone. If you don’t have OCD, I hope you will learn some information that will help you understand this disorder better.

MID-WEEK MOTIVATION FROM THE DAILY STOIC. IT TAKES COURAGE TO MAKE CHANGES. Each Thursday morning I present you with a song, quote, poem or passage to bring some positivity to your week. Today I will be reading a passage from “The Daily Stoic”, written by Ryan Holiday. I heard about this book from my guest, Jaimi McPeek, in the episodes where we talked about self-love. There is one passage a day to read and think about. It takes about three minutes of my day and it is already changing my perceptions about situations I run across on a daily basis. I also write in my “Daily Stoic Journal” each night and I find it is really helping retrain my OCD brain. MY PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH OCD: I WAS OBSESSED WITH A FRIEND

MY PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH OCD: I WAS OBSESSED WITH A FRIEND In today’s episode, I deconstruct my current obsession. While I am happy to say that I am at the end of this OCD spell, which has lasted over five years, I still have to be very cautious of triggers. Instead of avoiding these triggers, I use them for exposure therapy, turning them into a beneficial tool for healing. Deconstructing this spell was easier because it is the most recent.  Despite the challenges and social consequences, it was during this spell that I learned how my obsessions start. I can now use this to hopefully prevent new obsessions in the future. So, in a way, this obsession was a blessing to me. Thank you so much for listening. THE REALITY OF OCD: TRACI PERKINS’ JOURNEY – FROM THE OCD PROJECT - PART ONE

THE REALITY OF OCD: TRACI PERKINS’ JOURNEY – FROM THE OCD PROJECT - PART ONE I’m really excited about this morning’s show. It’s part 1 of my conversation with Traci Perkins, a patient on the reality show, “The OCD Project.” "The OCD Project" was a reality television series that aired on VH1 in 2010. The show followed the experiences of individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) as they underwent intensive therapy and treatment at a residential treatment facility. Dr. David Tolin, a psychologist and expert in OCD, led the therapy sessions and worked with the participants to help them manage their OCD symptoms. The show aimed to raise awareness about OCD and provide insight into the challenges faced by individuals living with the condition. In this episode, Traci tells us about the first time she remembers performing an OCD ritual, how she first learned she had OCD and her family reactions. We discuss medications, magical thinking and the many rituals she has had, including audible rituals. She also shares with us how she was chosen to be a patient on The OCD Project.   Season 1 of the OCD Project can still be found on YouTube. I encourage you to watch it to get more familiar with Traci. We are hoping to record an episode devoted to the show and you can ask Traci questions about the show beforehand. She will be glad to answer your questions on air. Please contact me on my social media links, which are below in the show notes, with any questions you may have for Traci.   My blog and current social media links are listed below: Facebook Group Pag -  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1006937163975152 Blog – aroundandaroundtheocdcircle.blogspot.com Tik Tok - theocdcircle Twitter-- @aroundocdcircle Instagram - @aroundandaroundtheocdcircle YouTube- Around and Around – The OCD Circle: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbyTz1V6a5hinyl4z9Ft09Q   You are welcome to contact me via e-mail at [email protected].

EMPATHY & OBSESSIONS: NAVIGATING LIFE WITH OCD AND BEING AN EMPATH

EMPATHY & OBSESSIONS: NAVIGATING LIFE WITH OCD AND BEING AN EMPATH In this episode, I explore my occasional feelings of neediness. I admit to frequently checking on others to ensure their well-being and the strength of our relationships. I question whether I am genuinely needy or if I simply crave a sense of being needed. I am what is called an empath. I will talk about the pros and cons of being an empath and how my OCD contributes to my feeling of being needed. Based on the definition of an empath, do you feel you are an empathetic person? Do you feel that because of your OCD, you are needy at times?
