The resulting film was released in 2006 as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, which was directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls, Battle Los Angelis) and written by Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard '05, Up In The Air) from a story co-wrote by David J. Welcome to episode 5 of Bede & Steve Vs. Leatherface, where your hosts Bede Jermyn & Steven T. Boltz explore the films of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.Despite the fourth installmentTexas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation bombing with both critics and audiences when it was released in 1995 (and on its re-release in 1997), there were plans there for a while to make a fifth entry. Unfortunately, they never came to fruition and the franchise went dormant for many years. However, director Michael Bay, his new production company Platinum Dune & the studio New Line Cinema picked up the rights and decided to remake the film for a whole new generation. The result was the 2003 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was the directorial debut for acclaimed music video director Marcus Nispel (Friday The 13th '09, Conan The Barbarian '11) and written by Scott Kosar (The Machinist, The Amityville Horror '05). Despite it's mixed reception, it was a big box office hit. Joining the hosts Bede & Steve to discuss this smash hit remake of the series are first-time guests Trev Snyder (Failure To Franchise & Bede's co-host on Bede & Trev Vs. Welcome to episode 4 of Bede & Steve Vs. Leatherface, where your hosts Bede Jermyn & Steven T. Boltz explore the films of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.After the release both the box-office and ciritical failure of the 1990 third entry Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, no one knew what was going to happen next for the franchise. However in 1994, original TCM co-writer Kim Henkel got the rights to the franchise and decided to independently write/direct a fouth instalment. The resulting film was the 1995 film The Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Unfortunately, the flopped when it was released in cinemas. Two years later after its two stars Renee Zellweger & Matthew McConaughey became huge stars, Columbia TriStar Pictures picked up the distrubution rights of the film and re-cut/re-released it in 1997 as Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. Joining the hosts Bede & Steve to discuss this incredibly divisive fouth film in the series are first-time guests film critic Matt Konopka (KillerHorrorCritic.com) and filmmaker Douglas A. Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake Episode 12.5 - Sweet Revenge (2025)... "Some Campers Never Learn"
Welcome to episode 12.5 of Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake.Yep, you read that correctly. This is episode 12.5. Don't worry, your hosts Bede Jermyn & Steven T. Boltz have a good reason for that. Aftet the release of the 2009 reboot of Friday The 13th, another entry in the series was in development for a few years. However, before the film was made, an lawsuit happened between the 1980 original film's director Sean Cunningham and writer Victor Miller that sent the franchise in dormant for many years until the rights situation was settled in 2021. Not long after that, Miller teamed up with a few producers to star a new company called Jason Un1ve3rse, which would help restart the franchise across of forms of media. First up, the company decided to reintroduce Jason Voorhees to the world again by making a short film called Sweet Revenge, which was written & directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn '21, Silent Night Deadly Night '25) and sponsored by the cider company Angry Orchard. Since it's not a feature-length film or TV show, your hosts decided to call this episode 12.5.Joining your hosts to discuss this stand-alone short F13 entry are returning guest filmmaker Adrien Castro & first-time guest for the show Doug Tilley (Cinema Smorgasbord, No-Budget Nightmares). Welcome to episode 12 of Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake. After the massive success of crossover film Freddy Vs. Jason, New Line Cinema wanted to make a follow-up that would see the two horror titans Jason Voorhees & Freddy Kruger go up against Ash Williams from The Evil Dead series. Unfortunatley due to circumstances, it wasn't meant to be. However, the studio teamed up the F13's original studio Paramont Pictures to produced a remake of the franchise along with joining forces with filmmaker Michael Bay and his production company Platinum Dunes to make it since they had success with other remakes of horror classics like the 2003 version The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The end result being the 2009 remake of Friday The 13th, which was directed by TCM '03 helmer Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift of FVJ fame. Now that New Line Cinema got Jason Voorhees back out into the public consciousness with the 9th entry Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday in 1993, the studio went to work on developing the match-up that teased at the end of it: Freddy Vs. Jason. Unfortunately, the film would be stuck development hell for quite a number of years. So, to keep interest in the franchise going, they decided to make another Jason film by taking him from Crystal Lake to outer space with the 2002 film Jason X, which was directed by Jim Isaac (House III: The Horror Show, Skinwalkers) and written by Todd Farmer (Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine '09). Welcome to episode 9 of Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake. After the 8th entry Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan was negatively recieved by fans/critics and underperformed at the box office, Paramont Pictures decided it was time hang up the Friday The 13th series for good. Luckily, New Line Cinema stepped in and was able to negotiate get rights to the series so they could make more follow-ups (however, Paramont would keep the rights to the F13 title). With the help of the original film's director Sean S. Cunningham as producer, the studio released the 9th instalment in 1993 with Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, which was the directorial debut of 23 year old filmmaker Adam Marcus (Conspiracy, Secret Santa).
