Talking everything agile with Jenni Thynne, Tracey Holland and Emily Morgan
In this episode Susanne speaks to Emily, Tracey and Jenni and explores the real-world challenges of agile implementation, emphasizing that successful adoption is less about strict ceremonies and more about delivering value, fostering collaboration, and learning from experience. The conversation moves beyond buzzwords, highlighting the need for adaptability, transparent leadership, and a focus on business outcomes. Takeaways Agile is most effective when focused on delivering value, not just following processes or terminology. A two-tier system can emerge if only some teams adopt agile, causing organizational friction. Addressing deep-rooted issues like decision-making and resourcing is key for agile success. There is no "silver bullet"—new methodologies can't fix problems that aren't properly understood. Business outcomes should take priority over any single methodology or tool. Start with the most pressing pain points instead of trying to fix everything at once. Foster an agile mindset by prioritizing people's values, openness to change, and collaborative approaches. "Minimum Lovable Product" is a better aim than simply a "Minimum Viable Product"—solutions must be both usable and valued. Balancing leadership expectations and delivery teams' realities requires transparency, courage, and ongoing stakeholder engagement. Learning from past experiences—and openly acknowledging mistakes—builds trust and supports continuous improvement. In this episode, Susanne talks to Melanie Franklin about the importance of developing change capability at all levels in organisations to cope with increasing volumes of change. We also discussed Melanie's approach to measuring the impact of change, including intangible impacts and the importance of recognising the impact that change can have on employee identity and feelings. Its not just about process and technology..... Resources The global Capability for Change survey assesses the current state of change management understanding and capability across organisations. The results of the survey give us the opportunity to benchmark how well we are preparing our staff for the high volume and continuous nature of change that they experience at work. The questions are thought provoking, helping to trigger thoughts on other things we can do to build change capability and reduce the stress of adopting new ways of working. To access the survey, please register here https://crm.agilechangemanagement.co.uk/enterprise-change-and-transformation-survey The survey uses standard questions plus a cognitive section developed using neuroscience, from a specialist provider called Truthsayers to help us dig deeper than what we think on the surface to how we really feel things are going. The survey is open for completion for 4 weeks, at the end of which you will be sent a report of your responses. This is followed by analysis and commentary of the global results, divided by country and industry type. You are also invited to a webinar where I provide background to the results and host a discussion on our progress and where we can focus our improvements efforts. Previous respondents have highlighted the value of having evidence and comparison with others to drive the conversations in their organisation about the value and importance of managing change effectively, and have been kind enough to share with me the support this has generated from their senior leadership.
