What if your thyroid is a victim, not the cause, of Hashimoto's ⎸ Ep. 210 with Dr. Jess Armine

What if your thyroid is a victim, not the cause, of Hashimoto's Your thyroid isn't broken. It's overwhelmed. Esther talks with Dr. Jess Armine, a healthcare provider with almost 50 years of clinical experience. His take on Hashimoto's: the thyroid is a victim, not the cause. It's a downstream effect of something else happening in your body. If your fatigue has ever been written off as laziness, this one will shift how you see it. In this episode, you'll learn: Why your thyroid isn't the real problem in Hashimoto's Why your fatigue is a cellular energy crisis, not laziness The one simple starting point Dr. Armine recommends before chasing every root cause Guest bio: Dr. Jess Armine has spent nearly 50 years in healthcare as an EMT, RN, and chiropractor. After his son's schizophrenia diagnosis, he dove into genetics, endocrinology, and mitochondrial function, developing what he calls bio-individualized medicine. Why you keep starting over with your Hashimoto's protocols ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 209

Do you keep starting a new Hashimoto's protocol, only to abandon it a few weeks in when something newer shows up? If that cycle feels familiar, you are not lacking discipline. You are missing a filter. In this episode, Esther explains why do I keep starting over with Hashimoto's protocols, and it is not the reason you think. The real issue is that every new supplement or protocol lands with equal weight because there is no way to sort it against what you are already doing. In this episode, you'll learn: The real reason starting over feels like progress, even when it isn't The two bucket filter (thyroid or immune) for sorting anything new that crosses your feed Four questions to ask before you try another supplement or protocol Hit play to get the filter that stops the cycle for good.   Hashimoto's Decoded: Thyroid or Immune Finally understand what's actually happening in your body. https://healthwithhashimotos.com/hashimotos-decoded/   Hashimoto's Discernment Coaching Not more information. Why do I have so many Hashimoto's symptoms at the same time ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 208

Why does it seem like every Hashimoto's symptom shows up at once instead of one at a time? In this episode, Esther explains why your root causes never work alone. A single stressor, like a poor night of sleep, can affect your blood sugar, your gut, and your immune system all at the same time. That is why you have so many Hashimoto's symptoms stacking on top of each other, and it is not because nothing you are doing is working. In this episode, you'll learn: Why a single bad night of sleep can throw off your blood sugar and your willpower the next day How stress affects more than your mood, including your immune function and your gut lining Why small positive changes ripple across your whole body the same way stressors do Just as you are not a simple skeleton, you are not just a thyroid. Why Hashimoto's self sabotage is not a willpower problem ⎸ Ep. 207 with Dr. Tabatha Barker

You did the gluten free diet. You healed your gut. You worked on your nervous system. So why do you keep quitting two weeks later? If you have ever done everything right and still found yourself back at the donut, skipping your supplements, or abandoning your protocol without a clear reason why, this episode is for you. Dr. Tabatha, a board certified OBGYN who has lived with Hashimoto's since she was 17, says Hashimoto's self sabotage is rarely a discipline problem. It is a belief problem. In this episode, Dr. Tabatha shares the story behind her own diagnosis, her years as a Western medicine surgeon, and the shift that changed how she sees the body, faith, and healing. You will hear why she believes the deepest root cause she ever found was not a missing supplement, but a belief about what she deserved. In this episode, you'll learn: Why Hashimoto's self sabotage often has nothing to do with willpower Why your thyroid is not malfunctioning, but protecting you Why fasting can backfire for a body that already feels like it is in survival mode Hit play to hear Dr. Tabatha's full story and the belief she says is holding so many women back from lasting change.   Listen to Dr. Tabatha's podcast Fast to Faith where she interviews Esther   JOIN THE HEALTH WITH HASHIMOTO’S COMMUNITY Unlock your wellness journey with the free Health with Hashimoto's community! Why Knowing Your Hashimoto's Root Causes Is Not Enough ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 206

You have done the research and probably already know your root causes, but what do you do next when new protocols, supplements, or advice pop up? In this episode I’ll help you build a personal filter — discernment — so you can decide what’s worth trying and what to skip.   We’ll walk through real-life examples (social media supplements, new diets, and flare-ups) to show how discernment helps you ask the right questions, run a checklist, and avoid all-or-nothing thinking. Think of this as your practical, everyday tool for applying what you already know.   If you’re just starting, hit the show notes for Hashimoto’s Decoded to learn your root causes. Bad Influence Got the Problems Right but the Solutions Wrong - A Book Review

The BMJ called Bad Influence "a timely and eye-opening investigation...essential reading," but spoiler: I don’t agree. I found the reporting solid, and she made good points about how social media prioritizes stories over science, but I disagreed with nearly every solution. As an American who values free speech and medical autonomy, I want control over my health and freedom to speak. The author’s UK, socialized-medicine perspective leads her to lean toward regulation and centralized answers — that’s just not my worldview. I gave the book two stars: worth reading if you want to understand the problems, but don’t expect the proposed fixes to support medical autonomy nor freedom of speech.   Get the book Bad Influence: How the Internet Hijacked Our Health by Deborah Cohen   JOIN THE HEALTH WITH HASHIMOTO’S COMMUNITY Unlock your wellness journey with the free Health with Hashimoto's community! Vitamin D as a Root Cause of Hashimoto's ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 203

Are you still exhausted even though you're doing everything you can for your Hashimoto's? The problem might be something you literally cannot feel. Vitamin D is one of the most common root cause triggers for Hashimoto's, and most women have no idea their levels are low. You cannot feel it when your vitamin D is low. You cannot feel it when it is high. The only way to know is to test. And if your levels are not where they need to be, your immune system is missing one of its most important tools for calming down. In this episode, Esther breaks down why vitamin D is a root cause trigger for Hashimoto's, how it works in your immune system, and what you actually need to know about getting your levels up, whether that is through summer sun exposure or smart supplementation. In this episode, you will learn: Why vitamin D acts like a brake system for your immune system and what happens when those brakes fail What optimal vitamin D levels actually look like and why "not deficient" is not good enough How summer sun exposure works, why it is not as simple as going outside, and what to do about it year round Ready to map out all of your root causes? The Modified AIP Diet for Hashimoto’s: What Mickey Trescott Wants Every Patient to Know | Ep. 200

Have you ever wondered if what you eat is making your Hashimoto's worse — or if changing your diet could actually make a real difference? If you've heard of the AIP diet but felt overwhelmed, confused about where to start, or worried it meant giving up food you love forever, this episode is for you. The modified AIP diet Hashimoto's patients are using today looks very different from what it was 15 years ago — and the research behind it is finally catching up. In this episode, Esther sits down with Mickey Trescott, functional nutrition expert, Hashimoto's patient, and author of the brand new book The New Autoimmune Protocol. Mickey shares how AIP has evolved from a single sentence in functional medicine circles into a research-backed, two-phase protocol with human studies to support it — including two studies specific to Hashimoto's. In this episode, you'll learn: Why AIP is a tool and a process, not a permanent diet — and what it's actually designed to do What modified AIP is, how it differs from core AIP, and why it may be more realistic for your real life Why preparation matters more than the diet itself, and the two exercises Mickey uses to set people up for success before they change a single thing they eat Hit play and find out if the modified AIP diet might be the missing piece in your Hashimoto's strategy.   Get the book: The New Autoimmune Protocol by Mickey Trescott, MSc  Mickey's website: theautoimmuneprotocol.com    JOIN THE HEALTH WITH HASHIMOTO’S COMMUNITY Unlock your wellness journey with the free Health with Hashimoto's community! In this episode, you’ll learn: How chronic stress shifts your body out of “rest and digest” and disrupts digestion Why rushed eating and poor chewing can worsen gut permeability How stress-driven changes in the gut lining can contribute to autoimmune flares in Hashimoto’s If you’re feeling overwhelmed, tired of fighting your body, or stuck in a cycle of symptoms, this conversation will help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and why calming your stress response is a foundational step.   SCHEDULE A COACHING SESSION: Hashimoto’s Health Session https://healthwithhashimotos.com/book-now/   Listen to the ABIDE episode: https://healthwithhashimotos.com/150-hhl-abide/ And get 30 days free: https://abide.com/ref/hashimotospodcast    JOIN THE HEALTH WITH HASHIMOTO’S COMMUNITY Unlock your wellness journey with the free Health with Hashimoto's community! 182 // Hashimoto's Healing Timeline: What to Expect and Why Progress Feels Slow [Interview with Dr. Jen Mann]

You're doing the work. So why does it feel like nothing is changing? If you've been living with Hashimoto's and wondering why progress feels so slow, this episode is for you. Esther sits down with naturopathic doctor Dr. Jen Mann to talk honestly about what a realistic Hashimoto's healing timeline actually looks like and why slow progress is not a sign that something is wrong. This is the conversation many women need but rarely hear from their doctors. In this episode, you'll learn: Why Hashimoto's requires root-cause work, not just symptom management What a realistic healing timeline looks like (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and beyond) Why you may feel better before your labs improve, and why that still counts How to make steady progress without trying to do everything at once Why healing is non-linear and what to do on the hard days If you've ever felt discouraged, dismissed, or tempted to give up because results aren't coming fast enough, press play. 181 // What to focus on first when you have Hashimoto’s

Are you overwhelmed by constantly changing health advice and unsure what actually matters for Hashimoto’s? Dietary guidelines flip, supplements trend, and recommendations change every year. It’s no wonder so many women with Hashimoto’s feel confused, frustrated, and stuck. This episode brings the focus back to what does not change. Instead of chasing every new health strategy, real progress comes from strengthening the foundations your body depends on. In this conversation, you’ll hear why focusing on the basics creates more stability, energy, and long-term results than jumping from one solution to the next. The main takeaway is simple: when the foundation is strong, everything else works better. In this episode, you’ll learn: What to focus on first when you have Hashimoto’s instead of reacting to trends Why cellular health and gut integrity matter more than symptom chasing How emotional and spiritual stress can quietly interfere with physical health If you are ready to step away from overwhelm and get clear on where to start with Hashimoto’s, press play and listen in.   JOIN THE SIMPLE HABITS PROGRAM (Deadline 1/10/26) https://healthwithhashimotos.com/simple-habits-program/    BOOK HOLISTIC HASHIMOTO'S COACHING https://tidycal.com/esther-hwh/hashimotos-health-session-package    Find all links on my resource page: https://healthwithhashimotos.com/resources/   ABOUT THE PODCAST & ESTHER: The Health with Hashimoto’s podcast will help you explore the root causes of your autoimmune condition and discover holistic solutions to address your Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. 180 // Trends for Hashimoto's in 2026: Quick Fixes OUT, Sustainable Foundations IN

Are quick fixes actually helping your Hashimoto’s, or are they quietly keeping you stuck? As a new year begins, it is tempting to chase the next solution, supplement, or routine that promises fast results. But for women with Hashimoto’s, that approach often leads to more frustration and more fatigue. In this episode, I walk through what I am intentionally leaving behind in 2026 and what I am choosing instead to better support autoimmune health. The main takeaway is simple: sustainable foundations matter more than quick fixes. When we reduce stress, support the nervous system, and focus on how the body actually works, everything else becomes easier to manage. This episode outlines the mindset shifts and health habits that align with long-term regulation, not burnout. In this episode, you will learn: Why small, repeatable habits support Hashimoto’s better than extreme health efforts How stress, routines, and daily rhythms directly affect autoimmune health What foundational health practices matter most according to Hashimoto’s 2026 trends Press play to listen to this episode and start rethinking what truly supports your health this year.   MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE: Simple Habits Program - Starting January 11, 2026 KnewHealth - The non-insurance option I'm using. 179 // Hashimoto's in Teenagers: How Estrogen Dominance and Gut Health Drive Early Autoimmune Disease [Interview with Dr. David Bilstrom]

Painful periods, anxiety, and a brain that won't slow down might seem like normal teenage struggles. They are not always normal. They can be early warning signs. In this episode, Esther sits down with quadruple board-certified physician Dr. David Bilstrom to talk about what is actually driving these symptoms in teenage girls and why catching them early can change the long-term health picture for Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, and other autoimmune conditions. If you have a teen daughter or you are wondering whether your own Hashimoto's started much earlier than your diagnosis, this conversation will give you a clearer picture. In this episode, you'll learn: Why painful periods, heavy flows, PMS, anxiety, and sleep struggles in teens are early red flags, not normal parts of growing up How estrogen dominance sets the stage for autoimmune disease long before thyroid labs change Why gut health is central to both hormone balance and immune regulation How chronic infections like Epstein-Barr can lodge in the thyroid and drive ongoing autoimmune activity Why early intervention, ideally before age 19, can shift the trajectory for both teens and future generations This is a proactive, hopeful conversation about what is possible when root causes are identified early. 177 // Why Good Energy Matters for Hashimoto’s and Autoimmune Health

Have you ever wondered why your Hashimoto’s symptoms stick around even when you’re doing “all the right things”? There’s a reason so many people still feel tired, inflamed, and overwhelmed — and it starts inside the cell.   This episode breaks down the idea of good energy and why it matters for anyone living with Hashimoto’s or an autoimmune condition. I share insights from the book Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means and explain how low cellular energy sets the stage for inflammation, immune confusion, and that constant feeling of running on empty. When you understand what’s happening at the smallest level of the body, the big picture starts to make a lot more sense.   In this episode you’ll learn: Why poor cellular energy plays such a big role in Hashimoto’s How inflammation and autoimmune symptoms connect to mitochondrial function Simple ways to begin supporting your cells so you can feel like yourself again Press play and learn how Good Energy Matters for Hashimoto’s and Autoimmune Health.   Get the Book: https://amzn.to/3KERgzS  Start the Dual Synergizer: https://estheryunkin.lifevantage.com/us-en/shop/protandim-dual Find all links on my resource page: https://healthwithhashimotos.com/resources/   ABOUT THE PODCAST & ESTHER: The Health with Hashimoto’s podcast will help you explore the root causes of your autoimmune condition and discover holistic solutions to address your Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. 174 // The Free Hashimoto's Health Tool You Are Probably Skipping Every Day

Are you looking for ways to support your Hashimoto's health without adding more to your already full plate? There is one tool that is completely free, takes less than a minute, and has real science behind it. It is gratitude. Not the once-a-year Thanksgiving kind. The daily, eyes-open, noticing-what-is-already-working kind. In this episode, you will discover: Why a regular gratitude practice is one of the most overlooked free Hashimoto's health support tools available to you What your body is doing right now that is worth paying attention to How shifting your perspective on small, everyday moments can lower your cortisol, improve your sleep, and support your immune system The research is clear. A Harvard study found that just 15 minutes of focused gratitude three times a week produced a measurable increase in happiness for six months. A 2023 meta-analysis found gratitude interventions work as well as some therapy techniques for reducing worry and improving mood. And for women with Hashimoto's, lowering cortisol is not a small thing. It directly impacts your immune system and your autoimmune activity.
