Healthspan on Her Terms with Dr. Sheri
by Dr. Sheri
Healthspan on Her Terms is where Dr. Sheri, a Doctor of Nursing Practice and integrative clinician, cuts through the noise, the conflicting advice, and the things that used to work… but don’t anymore. This is where we talk about the real things women experience but don’t always have clear answers for. The energy that’s off. The weight that won’t shift. The sleep that’s inconsistent. The labs that come back “normal”… but you don’t feel normal. It’s the space where you start to understand what’s actually happening in your body and what to do about it.Through conversations on hormones, metabolism, muscle, and longevity, you’ll learn how to move forward in a way that actually makes sense.Because your health isn’t about doing more or trying harder. It’s about finally understanding your body and working with it, not against it.

Where Did My Sex Drive Go? And Is Testosterone Really the Answer?
What happens when you still love your partner, may still find them attractive, but sex simply does not cross your mind anymore? It can feel as though someone slowly turned down the volume on your sex drive until one day you realized it had gone completely quiet. That change can feel confusing, lonely and deeply personal. I understand that experience not only as a clinician, but as a menopausal woman who has experienced it herself.A quiet sex drive does not automatically mean your relationship is failing. It does not automatically mean your testosterone is low. And it certainly does not mean you are broken. In this episode, we talk about the different ways low desire can show up. You may love your partner but rarely think about sex. You may enjoy intimacy once it begins but never feel the urge to initiate. Or perhaps you do not particularly miss sex, but your partner does, leaving you feeling pressured or guilty. We also explore something many women were never taught: desire does not always arrive first. Sometimes interest develops only after affection, privacy, connection and touch that genuinely feels good. This is known as responsive desire, and it is every bit as real as the spontaneous, lightning-bolt version we see in movies. But responsive desire is not the explanation for everything. Sleep loss, stress, mood changes, medication, vaginal dryness and painful sex can all turn the volume down. Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause may be part of the story, but hormones are only one control on a much larger soundboard. Then we answer the question many women are asking: Is testosterone the answer? I explain when testosterone may help, why a laboratory result alone cannot diagnose low desire, what realistic improvement may look like and why more is not better. Testosterone can be a useful tool for selected women, but it cannot correct pain, restore emotional safety or create enough energy to overcome months of disrupted sleep. Most importantly, this episode will help you ask three questions: Is this different for me? Does it bother me? What do I want now?Your sex drive is not a measure of your femininity, your love for your partner or your worth. If you want help understanding what changed, you deserve a thoughtful conversation rather than being told it is simply part of getting older.Subscribe to Healthspan on Her Terms with Dr. Sheri, share this episode with a woman who may need it and leave a review so more women can find these honest conversations.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. The Midlife Blood Pressure Change Most Women Miss
You may know your weight, cholesterol, or A1c, but do you know your usual blood pressure? Not one rushed office reading. Your actual pattern. In this episode of Healthspan on Her Terms with Dr. Sheri, Dr. Sheri Erwin explains why blood pressure deserves more attention from the late 30s forward and how it connects with the larger midlife picture: changing hormones, disrupted sleep, insulin resistance, lipid shifts, stress, muscle loss, abdominal fat, and future cardiovascular risk. You’ll learn why one normal or high office reading does not tell the whole story, how to take a more useful blood-pressure reading at home, and why pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and gestational diabetes still belong in your health history decades later. Dr. Sheri also explains what the top and bottom numbers mean, when a pattern deserves evaluation, and why blood pressure should be interpreted alongside glucose, cholesterol, waist measurement, family history, symptoms, and lifestyle. This is not about chasing a perfect number or assuming every change is caused by menopause. It is about using good information to recognize patterns early and make thoughtful decisions for the decades ahead. If you have scattered results but no clear picture, the Know Your Number approach at Root & Remedy Integrative Care is designed to help connect those pieces and turn them into a realistic healthspan plan.Subscribe, share this episode with a friend, and leave a review so more women can find Healthspan on Her Terms with Dr. Sheri.Educational note: This episode is for general education and does not replace individualized medical care. Why Don’t I Feel Like Myself Anymore?
“I just want to feel like myself again” can sound like a passing comment, but I hear it as important information. It usually does not mean you want your exact life or body at 28 back. It means something shifted. Sleep feels fragile. Energy has become unpredictable. Your periods changed. Anxiety crept in. Brain fog will not lift. Sex feels different. Or your body no longer responds to the strategies that used to work. That experience deserves more than a shrug and “welcome to getting older.”I’m Dr. Sheri Erwin, DNP, MBA, APRN, FNP-C, a board-certified family nurse practitioner and integrative clinician. In this episode, I offer a different goal for the late 30s, midlife, perimenopause, and menopause: not going backward, but becoming the strongest, healthiest, most fully yourself version of the woman you are becoming now.We talk about why curiosity should be the first response when a woman says she no longer feels like herself. A thoughtful evaluation may consider menstrual patterns, sleep, nutrition, medications, mental health, thyroid function, iron status, glucose regulation, cardiometabolic risk, and reproductive hormone transitions. We also name an important truth: not every symptom is hormonal, not every woman needs every test, and more testing is not a substitute for good clinical reasoning. Then we make it practical with a simple framework:Restore what has been disrupted and deserves treatment or support.Rebuild the strength, sleep, metabolic health, confidence, and capacity your future requires.Release the expectations that keep you measuring your current body and life against a version of yourself who lived under different circumstances. If you have been saying you want your old self back, this episode will help you identify what you actually miss so you can ask for the right kind of care and begin building true healthspan for the decades ahead. If you are not sure where to begin, the Know Your Number visit at Root & Remedy Integrative Care is a focused first step. We look beyond whether your labs are technically normal to identify what your symptoms, hormones, metabolism, and key health markers may be telling us about your health now and your future risk.Learn more at www.rootremedyic.com.Subscribe to Healthspan on Her Terms, share this episode with a woman who needs it, and leave a review so more women can find the show. What are you ready to restore, rebuild, or release?Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. AGING OUT LOUD
“Aging well” sounds like a compliment until you realize what people often mean: she looks younger than they expected. In this episode, we pull that idea apart and ask a question at the heart of Healthspan on Her Terms: Can we pursue healthspan without turning visible aging into another problem women are expected to fix?We explore the pressure to cover gray hair, smooth lines, and remain visibly youthful, and why that pressure is not shallow. Appearance can affect how women are treated socially and professionally. It can shape whether we feel visible, desirable, and credible. But aging well and looking young are not the same thing.Healthspan should be measured by more than a reflection. It includes strength, mobility, sleep, metabolic health, cognition, community, intimacy, purpose, and the ability to keep participating in the life you want.Gray hair offers a perfect example. Some women feel liberated when they stop coloring it. Others genuinely enjoy coloring their hair. Neither woman is “doing aging right.” Pro-aging is not a ban on Botox, makeup, skincare, hair color, or aesthetic care. It is refusing the belief that women owe the world youthfulness. We also examine how anti-aging pressure can be repackaged as wellness and how to distinguish between addressing symptoms that deserve care and medicalizing every normal sign of aging. If you are ready to build a long, healthy life without living in fear of your reflection, this episode is for you.If this conversation has you thinking about what aging well means for your health, learn more about working with:Sheri Erwin, DNP, MBA, APRN, FNP-CDoctor of Nursing Practice | Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitionerat Root & Remedy Integrative Care: www.rootremedyic.comSubscribe to Healthspan on Her Terms, share this episode with a woman who needs it, and leave a review so more women can find the show.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Bloated Again? 5 Things Your Gut May Be Trying to Tell You
You cut out dairy. Then maybe gluten. You bought a probiotic because someone told you it would fix your gut. And you're still bloated. In this episode, Dr. Sheri breaks down five things she wants every woman to understand about her gut, without a long lesson on digestive physiology and without another supplement to add to the cabinet. She covers:Bloating is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Why the pattern matters more than the fact that it happens at all, and the questions worth asking before you assume your microbiome is "bad."Your bowel movements are giving you information. What the Bristol Stool Chart actually measures, and why going every day does not automatically mean everything is fine.Your microbiome needs to be fed. Why fiber and plant variety matter more than the latest "gut healing" food, and how to add it without making bloating worse.A probiotic is not a gut reset button. Why more strains and higher CFUs are not automatically better, and the three questions to ask before you keep taking one.Testing should answer a clinical question. What stool testing can and cannot tell you, and why the biggest panel available is not always the most useful one.At the end, Dr. Sheri walks through a simple seven-day gut check you can do at home. No expensive testing, no elimination diet, just paying attention to the patterns most of us never think to track.Learn more about Root & Remedy Integrative Care at rootremedyic.com, and take the free Healthspan Baseline quiz at rootremedyic.involve.me/next-decades-healthspan-quiz.This podcast is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for personalized medical advice from your own healthcare provider.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Running on Empty? 5 Things Every Woman Should Know About Iron
Your lab report says "normal," but your body says something's off. That disconnect is exactly why we're talking about iron in a more useful way than the usual anemia checklist. I'm Dr. Sheri Erwin, and I'm walking you through five things I want every woman to understand about iron status, so you can stop guessing and start having clearer, more productive conversations with your healthcare provider. We unpack the most common trap: assuming a normal CBC and hemoglobin means iron is fine. I explain how iron deficiency can show up before anemia, why ferritin reflects iron stores, and why ferritin is not a single magic target number for fatigue, hair loss, brain fog, or restless legs. You'll hear how inflammation can change ferritin, why clinicians often look at additional iron studies like serum iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation, and how to interpret labs in the context of real symptoms. Then we move to the question that matters most: why is iron low in the first place? We talk through common root causes in women, including heavy or changing periods in perimenopause, low dietary iron intake, absorption issues tied to gut health, and why new iron deficiency after menopause deserves a careful look. I also share why more iron is not always better, what side effects to watch for, and the three questions to ask before starting any supplement: Do I need it, how much do I need, and how will I know it's working? If you're tired of being told everything looks fine when you don't feel fine, press play. Follow the show, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more women can find these conversations.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Is Stress Aging You? The Truth About Cortisol After 35

Your Body Is Whispering. Are You Listening?
Have you ever looked at your life and thought, "I don't feel like myself anymore"... but you couldn't explain why? You're functioning. You're getting through your days. Your labs may even be "normal." But something feels different.Maybe you're exhausted even after sleeping. Maybe you're forgetting words. Maybe your workouts leave you sore for days. Maybe your anxiety showed up out of nowhere. Maybe you've started wondering if this is just what getting older feels like.In this episode, we're talking about why those changes often aren't random and why your body usually whispers long before it screams.Using an evidence-based integrative medicine approach, we explore:Why "I don't feel like myself anymore" is often a pattern, not a single symptom. Why normal lab results don't always tell the whole story. How hormones, sleep, stress, metabolism, inflammation, and nutrition work together. Why asking "What changed first?" is often more helpful than asking "What's wrong with me?" How to start connecting the dots before small changes become bigger problems. If you've been telling yourself that you're just stressed, just busy, or just getting older, this conversation is for you.Your symptoms are not a personal failure. They are information. And sometimes the first step toward feeling like yourself again is learning how to listen. If this episode resonates with you, share it with a woman who needs to hear she isn't imagining it. Hormone Myths vs. Longevity Realities Part 2
A single scary headline from 2002 changed women’s health care for a generation and we’re still paying for it. We dig into why “hormone therapy is dangerous” became the default narrative, what the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) actually studied, and how the real clinical picture depends on timing, formulation, and delivery method. We talk through the timing hypothesis or “window of opportunity,” why transdermal estradiol differs from oral estrogen for clot risk, and why bioidentical progesterone is not the same thing as synthetic progestins when you’re weighing safety and tolerability. Then we shift to the myth that you’ll automatically know when perimenopause starts. Many women wait for hot flashes, but early perimenopause symptoms often look like new anxiety, 2–4 a.m. waking, brain fog, mood shifts, joint aches, and workouts that suddenly take days to recover from. We also explain why a normal FSH or estradiol on one blood draw doesn’t rule anything out early on because hormones fluctuate and symptoms plus history often matter more than a single lab. We close with two mindset resets that protect your healthspan: menopause is not a finish line, and lifestyle is not always sufficient when insulin sensitivity, sleep architecture, muscle protein synthesis, thyroid function, and cortisol rhythms shift. If you’ve been doing “everything right” and still feel off, you deserve an individualized clinical evaluation and an honest risk-benefit conversation. Subscribe for more evidence-based women’s health, share this with a friend who needs better answers, and leave a review so more women can find the show.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Hormone Myths That Keep Women Stuck Part 1
Have you ever been told your labs are “normal” while your body insists something is off? We’re pulling apart the hormone myths that keep women stuck in that exact gap, where fatigue, brain fog, sleep problems, weight changes, mood shifts, and low libido get chalked up to stress or “just getting older.” I’m Dr. Sheri Erwin, an integrative nurse practitioner, and I want you to leave with real biology and clear clinical patterns you can bring to your next appointment. We start with a myth that quietly derails most conversations: estrogen and testosterone are not opposites. They’re closely related hormones built from the same pathway, and your body is constantly converting and adapting based on tissue needs. That’s why symptom context matters and why a single lab number rarely tells the full story. We also take on the “normal labs mean you’re fine” problem and explain how reference ranges are designed to catch disease, not define optimal hormone health, thyroid function, or metabolic health for an individual woman. Then we get direct about testosterone in women: what it does for energy, strength, muscle mass, bone density, libido, mood, motivation, cognitive clarity, and metabolism, and why it’s so often left out of standard care. We close by challenging the most damaging narrative of all: hormone symptoms are not automatically “just aging,” especially during the perimenopause and early postmenopause window that shapes long-term cardiovascular health, bone health, and brain health. If this helped you, share it with a woman who needs it, subscribe so you don’t miss part two, and leave a review or message with the question you want answered next. Brain Fog Is A Signal You Can Decode
Brain fog can be one of the most unsettling changes in midlife because it is hard to explain and easy for other people to dismiss. You might lose your train of thought mid-sentence, search for words that used to come instantly, or feel like your mind is moving through wet cement.I want to make this simple and validating: brain fog is common, it often comes and goes, and normal labs do not automatically mean nothing is happening.I break down what brain fog is and what it is not, then map the most recognizable patterns I see in clinical practice: sleep-deprived fog, blood sugar fog, hormone transition fog in perimenopause and menopause, inflammatory or histamine-related fog, thyroid or mitochondrial slow fog, and the overloaded nervous system version where you are wired but tired.Once you can name your pattern, you can stop guessing and start choosing the right lever. From a women's health and functional medicine perspective, I walk through the highest-yield root causes to screen, including sleep architecture, protein and underfueling, glucose variability that does not show on A1c alone, estrogen and progesterone shifts, thyroid signaling, ferritin and B12 status, inflammation and gut health, and hidden contributors like alcohol, dehydration without electrolytes, certain medications, and supplement overload.I also share practical steps you can try this week: morning light within an hour of waking, protein early in the day, smarter caffeine timing, consistent sleep timing, and building real recovery into a hard training schedule. You will leave with clearer next steps, a smarter list of labs to discuss with your clinician if symptoms persist, and a direct rundown of red flags that deserve prompt medical evaluation. If this helped, subscribe for weekly episodes, share it with a woman who has been quietly pushing through the fog, and leave a review so more listeners can find us.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Low Energy, High Functioning: When You're Not Tired, You're Under-Recovered
You can be “fine” on paper and still feel wrong in your body. If you’re getting through the day, exercising, eating pretty well, and your labs look normal, but you feel flat, foggy, reactive, or stuck, we want to offer a better frame: under-recovery. I’m Dr. Sheri Erwin, an integrative nurse practitioner, and I’m walking you through why this shows up so often for high-performing women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond and why more discipline is not the answer. We break down what under-recovery actually is: when total stress exceeds your current recovery capacity. That stress includes workouts, work, caregiving, sleep disruption, travel, undereating, inflammation, illness, and the hormone shifts of perimenopause and menopause. You’ll hear the most common “looks like real life” patterns, including wired but tired, low motivation without feeling depressed, stubborn central weight gain or puffiness, and soreness that lingers longer than it used to. We also cover the six drivers I check first: sleep quality and circadian rhythm, training intensity without real recovery architecture, underfueling (especially protein and carb timing), hormone transition and HRT changes, adaptive thyroid signaling shifts, and hidden inflammation or nutrient shortfalls like low ferritin or low B12.To make this actionable, I share a simple seven-day recovery audit you can do without testing, plus a seven-day reset that often moves the needle fast: one true recovery day, protein anchors, morning light, a noon caffeine cutoff, an earlier dinner, and electrolytes if you train hard. If you still feel off, we talk about strategic labs to discuss with your provider, including CBC, CMP, iron panel with ferritin, thyroid markers, fasting insulin and glucose, A1C, hs-CRP, vitamin D, B12, sex hormones when appropriate, SHBG, and cortisol rhythm testing. If this helped you, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s been “pushing through,” and leave a review so more women can find it.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. When Anxiety Is Not Anxiety
Anxiety can be real and still be the wrong diagnosis for what you’re feeling. If you’ve noticed a sudden shift in stress tolerance, sleep, mood, or feeling “wired” at night, we walk through a different lens: anxiety-like symptoms as stress physiology. I’m a nurse practitioner and integrative women’s health educator, and I want you to understand what your nervous system might be trying to communicate before you assume you’re broken. We dig into cortisol dysregulation and the tired-and-wired pattern, including why your body can feel exhausted all day yet flip on the moment your head hits the pillow. You’ll learn how cortisol is supposed to follow a daily rhythm, how modern stress breaks that rhythm, and why elevated evening cortisol can suppress melatonin and trigger 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. wake-ups with a racing mind. We also connect the dots on why symptoms often worsen after poor sleep, too much caffeine, or seasons of burnout. Then we get specific about hormones and metabolism. We explain how estrogen affects brain signaling and sleep regulation, and why progesterone is often the missing piece in perimenopause anxiety. Progesterone supports GABA, your brain’s primary calming pathway, and when progesterone declines many women lose some built-in nervous system “brake” support. Finally, we cover blood sugar instability and why a glucose drop can trigger adrenaline and cortisol that feels exactly like panic, plus practical steps like a protein-forward breakfast, steadier meals, and backing off caffeine as a substitute for fuel.If you want a clearer, evidence-informed roadmap for nervous system regulation, women’s hormones, blood sugar stability, and burnout recovery, hit play. If Hormones Did Not Help You, You May Have Tried The Wrong Kind
Most women hear “HRT” and assume it’s one uniform treatment. That single label hides a crucial truth: systemic hormone therapy and local vaginal estrogen are different therapies, used for different symptoms, in different tissues, with different goals and expectations. We walk through what systemic hormones actually mean (hormones circulating in the bloodstream) and why they can be so effective for whole-body menopause and perimenopause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, and joint pain. We also clarify a common online blind spot: if you still have a uterus, progesterone is often part of the plan to protect the uterine lining. Along the way, we talk about why hormone therapy is always individualized and depends on personal health history and risk factors. Then we shift to one of the most under-discussed topics in women’s health: localized vaginal estrogen. We explain how estrogen receptors in vaginal and urinary tissue affect dryness, painful sex, burning, urinary urgency, bladder irritation, and recurrent UTIs, and why repeated antibiotics may miss the underlying tissue changes of genitourinary syndrome of menopause. The key takeaway is simple but powerful: the “right” hormone therapy depends on the symptom you’re trying to treat, and many women need a more targeted approach than they were offered. If you’ve ever thought “hormones didn’t help me,” this conversation may change how you interpret that experience and how you advocate for your healthspan. Congrats On Your Normal Labs. Now What?
“Your labs are normal.” If you’ve heard that and still felt exhausted, foggy, achy, moody, or like your body is changing without an explanation, we made this for you. Normal bloodwork can be genuinely reassuring, but it can also be incomplete because standard lab panels are built to detect disease, not to optimize health span or explain early dysfunction. We walk through the biggest places “normal” can hide the real story, starting with thyroid labs. If you’ve only ever been offered TSH, we explain why Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies can matter, especially when symptoms like cold intolerance, constipation, hair shedding, or low mood show up. Then we shift to metabolic health and the early warning signs of insulin resistance that don’t always appear on fasting glucose alone, including fasting insulin, hemoglobin A1C trends, and the triglyceride-to-HDL ratio for cardiometabolic risk. We also cover inflammation markers like high-sensitivity CRP and homocysteine, plus nutrient labs that can change how you feel even when a CBC looks fine, including vitamin D, ferritin, B12, and magnesium. And for women in their 40s and 50s, we talk about why reproductive hormones may be worth exploring when sleep, weight, libido, and mood start shifting. The through-line is simple: symptoms are data, labs are data, and your history is data, and you deserve a clinician who will put the whole picture together. If this helped you rethink what “normal” really means, subscribe, leave a review, or share it with a woman who’s been brushed off by “fine labs.” What’s the loudest symptom for you right now?Free Workshop: Her Next Decades – Clear Energy EditionFeeling “too young to feel this tired”? Why Eating Less Stops Working After 40
Eating less and working out more used to work, and now it doesn’t. If that’s your reality in your 40s or 50s, I want you to hear this clearly: you’re not broken, and you’re not failing your metabolism. Your body is running a different system than it did at 25, and midlife metabolism demands a new strategy that fits perimenopause and menopause physiology.I walk through what’s changing under the hood, including estrogen decline, reduced insulin sensitivity, blood sugar swings, and the quiet but powerful impact of losing muscle over time. We also connect the dots between chronic stress, elevated cortisol, and stubborn abdominal fat, plus how disrupted sleep can raise hunger hormones, lower satiety, impair glucose tolerance, and keep your body stuck in a “perfect storm” of cravings and fatigue. If you’ve been blaming willpower, this is the reframe you’ve needed. Then we get practical with a health-span focused approach: protein-first meals (especially at breakfast), simple strength training twice a week to preserve muscle and boost resting metabolic rate, steadier meal structure to reduce spikes and crashes, and fiber targets that support gut and cardiovascular health. I also share realistic sleep and stress moves, like keeping screens out of the bedroom, building a wind-down routine, and taking short daily breaks that tell your nervous system it’s safe.If you want next steps, check the resources in the show notes, consider talking with your medical provider, and if you’re eligible you can schedule a free clarity call or take the free Next Decade Quiz. Menopause Maxxing
Menopause maxing means taking early symptoms seriously and using the menopausal transition as a turning point toward a stronger next decade. A lot of women feel the shift much earlier, such as fragile sleep, 2 to 4 a.m. wake-ups, anxiety, irritability, brain fog, stubborn midsection weight gain, and joints that suddenly ache and stiffen. When those signs get brushed off as “stress” or “normal aging,” it is easy to wait until everything feels severe before getting support. We break down what is actually happening during the menopausal transition, including how changes in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone ripple through the whole body. We talk about why these hormones matter for brain health, cardiovascular health, bone density, temperature regulation, libido, and blood sugar, and how that biology explains the symptoms so many women think they are imagining. The goal is clarity: your symptoms are not random, they are signals. Then we get practical. We share a simple framework for menopause support: hormonal options (including how to think about menopausal hormone therapy and better questions to ask your clinician), lifestyle foundations that protect healthspan (strength training, protein, daily walking, sleep routines, stress and nervous system care), and targeted nutrition and supplements with a “test, don’t guess” mindset. Is This Perimenopause?
Perimenopause doesn’t start the day your period stops. For many women, it’s a long, messy transition that can stretch seven to ten years and still look “normal” on the calendar, which is exactly why so many women spend their late 30s and 40s feeling off without a name for what’s happening. In this episode, we’ll clarify the difference between perimenopause and menopause, and get specific about what hormones actually do in this phase: progesterone often drops first, estrogen can swing high and low, ovulation becomes less predictable, and stress load can amplify strain on cortisol and thyroid. That volatility shows up as real symptoms, not you “being dramatic” or “not handling life well.”We’ll walk through the most common perimenopause patterns I see in clinic, cycle and bleeding changes, waking at 2–4 a.m., anxiety and irritability, brain fog and word‑finding issues, abdominal weight gain without big habit changes, joint stiffness, libido shifts, headaches, and heart palpitations, and why women so often get brushed off or offered symptom‑only tools with no real explanation. Then we’ll talk about why early recognition matters for your healthspan: how supporting sleep, blood sugar, your nervous system, and your muscles and bones now can change how your next decades feel. I’ll also share practical scripts for your next appointment, which labs to ask about, and how to respond when you’re told everything is “normal” but you’re clearly not fine.Start Here: Take the Next Decades Healthspan Quiz. Your 30s Are Quietly Building Your 60s
Your 30s can feel like you’re supposed to be “fine” even when you’re tired, your sleep is shifting, and your body feels less forgiving than it used to. That quiet gap between looking okay on the outside and not feeling like yourself on the inside is exactly where healthspan work begins, because your 30s are not a maintenance decade. They’re a setup decade.I walk through what’s changing under the surface and why it matters later: bone density typically peaks in the early 30s, muscle is easier to build now than in later decades, metabolic flexibility can tighten over time, and chronic stress can reshape sleep, cravings, mood, and weight storage through cortisol and nervous system strain. We also talk about subtle hormone and menstrual cycle shifts that women often brush off, like shorter cycles, heavier periods, worsening PMS, headaches, and new sleep issues in the second half of the cycle, and why tracking patterns early can change your whole trajectory. You’ll leave with a practical approach that doesn’t require a perfect diet or a pile of supplements. Think simple, compounding habits like resistance training a couple times per week, protein at meals, protecting a few key sleep nights, short walks after meals, and daily downshifts that teach your body how to recover. If you want a clearer starting point, there’s also a quick Next Decade Quiz linked in the notes to help you spot your biggest leverage area. ABOUT THIS SHOW
Healthspan on Her Terms is where Dr.
