    129: This one song can reduce anxiety

    Today we discuss how music sets the tone for our home (and helps to keep anxiety at a minimum). New research suggests one song might be better than most for reducing anxiety and we have a clip! Is chocolate good for the heart? Not exactly but cocoa on its own has been shown to reduce HDL and triglycerides. We discuss my chocolate obsession and what I try to turn to for my fix. Finally, the five-second-rule has been debunked. We thought it wasn’t supposed to be serious as a “rule” but someone looked into it anyway. Bacteria can hop on food in quicker than 5 seconds.     128: Coconut oil is anti-cancer - Here's how we use it everyday

    In today’s episode we discuss some of the ways we use coconut oil. We got on to this topic because of recent news that shows one of the fatty acids in coconut oil is effective against colon cancer cells. Listen today to hear some of the ways we use coconut oil. Are you taking vitamin D? According to Health Canada all Canadians should be and a new study shows the benefits go beyond bone health. Adequate vitamin D levels have been associated with a 50% reduction in cancer risk. Finally today we talk about the placebo effect. How does our perception of a medicine affect our response? It turns out that even when we know we are taking a placebo pill we can still experience benefits (especially for back pain). Plus - we discuss how stress makes allergies worse.     126: Sugar lies and cover-up exposed

    In today's episode we discuss how the sugar industry paid researchers in the 1960s to downplay sugar's role in cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes and label saturated fat as the sole culprit. New research supports the theory that positive perceptions about aging improve cognitive and physical performance later in life.
