Why Kegels Aren’t the Answer & What Your Pelvic Floor Actually Needs with Brynn Babb
PELVIC FLOOR HEALTH is one of the most overlooked parts of women’s wellness — especially during pregnancy and postpartum.I'm thrilled to bring pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Brynn Babb on the podcast to help unpack the realities of pelvic floor care. We talk about why pelvic floor therapy is so often overlooked, how common issues like leaking, pressure, prolapse, pain with intimacy, and chronic hip or low back pain can all be connected to the pelvic floor, and why these symptoms should never be dismissed as “just part of motherhood” or “just getting older.”Bryn shares why working with a pelvic floor therapist during pregnancy can be incredibly supportive, how virtual pelvic floor care can make this work more accessible, and what recovery can look like in the postpartum period — whether you’re 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years after birth. We also dive into some of the biggest myths around pelvic floor health, including the idea that everyone should just do Kegels, and explore how pelvic floor issues can show up in ways many women don’t expect and why pelvic floor therapy isn’t just for postpartum recovery — it’s a lifelong investment in women’s health.01:18 Why Pelvic Floor Care02:57 When to Start in Pregnancy07:10 Digital vs In Person Therapy10:49 Postpartum Care Timeline14:16 Returning to Sport Safely16:19 Common Postpartum Symptoms17:10 Prolapse Basics Explained20:15 Treating Prolapse Without Surgery26:40 Sex After Birth Pain29:36 Hormones Scar Tissue Fixes33:59 Pelvic Floor Myths34:43 Kegels And Yoni Eggs38:54 Beyond Postpartum Symptoms40:24 Virtual Assessment ProcessBrynn provides pelvic floor therapy 100% virtually, making care accessible for women regardless of location.Connect with Brynn:Instagram: @dr.brynn.babbSchedule a free call with her here: https://form.typeform.com/to/IMOJv4I6Have questions? Womb Wisdom: Blood as Nourishment, Not as Violence
Blood is something most of us rarely talk about — yet it’s central to pregnancy, birth, menstruation, postpartum, and our overall health. Literally, central to what creates and births life and each of us into this world. In this episode, we explore the many layers of blood: physical, energetic, cultural, and ancestral. From menstrual cycles to postpartum recovery, blood carries important information about how our bodies are functioning and how we’re nourishing ourselves. We also dive into the cultural discomfort many people feel around blood—why violent bloodshed is normalized in media, yet menstrual blood, birth blood, and placenta are often considered taboo.Drawing from teachings around ritual, Chinese medicine, and personal experiences, we discuss how changing our relationship to blood can shift how we move through motherhood and being a woman in this world.00:00 Opening: our relationship with blood02:30 Menstrual blood & giving back to the earth05:30 Reframing blood from shame to nourishment08:00 Blood, birth & postpartum healing11:00 Chinese medicine: blood, qi & essence15:30 Blood as a mirror of our health19:00 Ways we can nourish and rebuild23:00 Ancestry, bloodlines & closing reflectionsWe invite you to join this conversation for a different perspective on blood rooted in curiosity, nourishment, and reconnection.Resources:•EPISODE: placenta episode (please put full title and link from pod.link)•Saying from the Native Hopi Peoples: "When the women give their blood back to the earth, men will come home from war and earth shall find peace."Have questions? Redefining “Negative” Emotions in Motherhood, Pregnancy, and Postpartum
In this episode we dive into the world of emotions. Specifically the ones we try to fix, avoid, or label as “negative".We explore what it really means to be with your own emotions and the emotions of the people closest to you, including your kids and your partner. From overwhelm and sadness to anger, love, and everything in between, we unpack why emotions aren’t something to push away or fix, but something to feel, move through, and welcome. This becomes even more important in fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood. No emotion is wrong AND you’re not responsible for managing everyone else’s feelings. Real connection starts with allowing yourself to be exactly where you are. 2026 Reflection, Connection, and Intentions for the Year Ahead
Happy New Year!! 2025 was a wild ride for many of us. In Chinese Astrology it was the year of the Earth Snake. 2026 will bring us into the year of the Fire Horse (totally different energy - buckle up!). We wanted to start the pod off with a fresh episode, reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the future. We recorded this on the final day of 2025. We explore why intention-setting can feel more supportive than rigid goal-setting, especially after a year of deep shedding and change. This conversation weaves together reflection practices, relationship check-ins, and energetic themes to help you move into the new year with clarity, presence, and self-trust — even if you don’t yet know what you want. The Line That Lives In Us: Fertility, Birth and Ancestry
In this episode we explore the deeper meaning behind honoring our ancestors. While this is relevant and magical anytime of year (and we explain why) it is especially potent around the end of October and beginning of November — a sacred time when many cultures believe the veil between worlds grows thin. Jen and I chat on the roots of traditions like Halloween (Hallow's Eve), Samhain, and Día de los Muertos, and reflect on how these rituals invite us to remember where we came from.We reflect on our own experiences, practices and connections to ancestors (which is actually very little) and weave together themes of lineage, ancestors, fertility, birth, postpartum and healing, offering some practical ways to honor your ancestors — even if it's totally new to you or you don’t know your full family history. Ancestral connection isn’t just about the past; it’s about reclaiming the wisdom that still lives within us and using it to guide our lives today.00:00 — Introduction to Ancestry and Halloween01:24 — The Meaning of Halloween & the Ancestral Veil02:08 — Personal Reflections on Lineage03:52 — Bringing Ancestral Awareness into Daily Life04:26 — Simple, Heartfelt Ways to Connect04:46 — The Link Between Ancestry and Birth06:27 — Why Ancestral Stories Matter08:19 — Modern Rituals to Honor the Old Ways09:22 — Healing Through Ancestral Connection15:06 — Closing Reflections and EncouragementHave questions? Meditation in Motherhood: A New Shape of 'Stillness'
They say life is a meditation — but that truth really lands once you become a parent. 🌀Parenthood invites us into a living meditation, one that rarely happens on a cushion. It’s found in midnight feedings, deep breaths between cries, and the tiny pauses that bring us back to the present moment. In this episode, we talk about how meditation has evolved for us since becoming parents — what presence, awareness, and ritual look like when there’s little personal space and constant motion. It’s not about perfection or stillness, but learning to find peace within the beautiful chaos of daily life. 00:00 Introduction to Today's Topic: Meditation 00:45 Defining Meditation: Beyond the Stereotypes 02:20 Meditation Practices and Personal Experiences 06:03 Meditation in Postpartum and Parenting 08:28 Integrating Meditation into Daily Life 18:30 Tips and Techniques for Meditating Parents 21:36 Conclusion and Final ThoughtsHave questions? The Energetic Connection Between Parents and Babies/Kiddos
Our babies and kiddos can feel us — deeply. Science is finally catching up to what many parents and caregivers have intuitively known for a long time: our moods, our energy, our nervous systems are in constant conversation with theirs. In this episode, we explore the invisible thread that connects parent and child — how being grounded becomes their pillar for safety, and how their presence can mirror back what’s happening within us. We share personal stories and professional insights on staying nourished, rested, and resourced enough to keep that tether strong. We also talk about what it means to communicate (even from day one, or before birth), how community support changes everything, and how setting boundaries and honoring our own emotions creates more ease and harmony at home. This episode is an invitation to remember: the most powerful parenting tool you have isn’t in a book or a class — it’s your energy.00:00 Introduction and Today's Topic 00:25 The Energy Connection Between Parent and Child 00:50 Coaching and Community Support 01:23 The Importance of Parental Energy 04:37 Communication with Babies 13:06 Balancing Attention Between Siblings 18:07 Concluding ThoughtsHave questions? Evidence vs. Intuition: Balancing Science and Soul in Motherhood
We live in a culture that often elevates data and evidence as the ultimate guides for decision-making. And intuition—our inner compass, our “ancient technology”— is often forgotten, or not given as much credit. Often people are confused on how to balance evidence with inner guidance. When you throw in the non-linear and very unpredictable topic of conception, birth and newborn life (for baby and parents) the question of when to turn to evidence and when to tune into intuition can before even more confusing. In this episode, we explore the delicate dance between these two elements. Through personal stories and professional insights, we unpack how these two approaches can work together (and sometimes clash). From breastfeeding to co-sleeping, circumcision to sleep training, we share how parents can find balance, trust themselves, and make choices that feel both informed and aligned.00:00 Introduction: Intuition vs. Evidence01:08 Balancing Evidence and Intuition01:55 Breastfeeding and Personal Evidence03:03 Evidence in Parenting Practices05:06 Cultural Practices and Evidence07:21 Presenting Unbiased Information10:40 Making Choices Out of Love vs. Fear11:42 Trusting Intuition in Parenting20:28 The Role of Doulas in Supporting Intuition22:45 Conclusion: Embracing Intuition and Evidence TogetherHave questions? 7 Things We Swore We’d Never Do As Parents (…and Totally Did)
Societal expectations give us a far from real picture of what we all 'should' be doing as parents. If you have experienced the gap between parenting ideals and reality - welcome to the club. In this episode, we explore the very real (and often humbling) list of things parents swore they would never do as a parent… and then totally did. From screen time to sugar bans to how we respond to our kids behavior. It was a fun question to ask and humbling to see just how human and connected our responses were. In addition to diving into the top answers we got from others we asked, we share our own personal stories and how our perspectives shifted once we were “in it”. Being Silly as a Survival Tool
We're back friends with a side of giggles today. Today’s episode is all about laughter, play, and how humor can be a powerful tool in parenting and life. This episode was inspired from some real life convos we were having with others (actually not parent related) with regards to humor in serious times. It resulted in a beautiful conversation and reflection on why and when to use humor and reminded me of it's importance in this world (especially as a parent). It’s easy to get caught up in the seriousness of day-to-day responsibilities, but embracing lightness, laughter, and play can truly shift our experiences and improve our relationships—especially when navigating the highs and lows of parenting. In this episode, we dive into:Humor in serious times and our current state of the world (and how it can be a part of the shift we want to make)How humor can provide relief, help us reconnect, and reframe challenging situationsThe importance of laughter in early labor and how humor can help in the final stages of pregnancyThe balance between lightness and the intense emotions that come with postpartum recoveryHow laughter and play become essential tools for parenting, from infancy to toddlerhoodWhy the first 40 days postpartum are sacred and how humor can be introduced after this windowThe role of playful moments in building stronger relationships with our kids, partners, and even coworkersPractical tips for bringing more play into your daily interactions and using humor as a tool for connectionWhy we all need to tap into our inner child—it's not just for kids!Resources/Links:EPISODE: Enhancing Fertility Through Acupuncture EPISODE: Co-creating and Finding Space To Play (without your children) While Being A ParentVIDEO: How baby moves inside the womb when mom is laughingBOOK: Playful Parenting by Lawrence J. From Doing to Being: Finding Harmony in Parenthood and Life
In the last couple of years there have been lots of spaces and people emphasizing the 'being' before 'doing'. But what does this actually mean? How does it relate to parenthood or life with a newborn? Jen and I have a casual convo about this topic inspired from her own personal life navigations. We touch on the doing/being balance both in parenthood and in life in general, give some examples and laugh about the paradox of 'doing' something to get to the 'being'. As always thank you for BEING an amazing pod listener... enjoy this fun convo. 💬 🍵 Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: doing all the things but nothing is working the dance of doing and being and how these are woven together releasing the outcome and how when you ground in 'being' it is easier to release the outcome in your 'doing' intention behind what you are doing - tuning into what is in alignment for YOU in the moment what exactly is doing and being - how do you define it parenting advice and when do we act from the noise of advice vs. our inner guidance reaction vs. response and how this relates to doing vs. being relating the 'doing' and 'being' to labor and how life phases are like birth cycles "who do I want to be and what's my intention in doing this" the act of self-care as doing Resources: our intentions workbook and intentions meditation recording - sign up on this page to get these for free Kathrine Zenkina's podcast episode that had the quote we mentioned + is a great follow-up episode to this on when to take action and doing/being balance -- her quote "I always laugh at that question whenever someone asks me what they need to do to be. If there is a doing that leads to a being when they have to be a being... so there is no doing to the being, it's just the being." our episode on parent rest and sleep (we talk about taking the edgy actions to BE a person that prioritizes self care) our episode about unsolicited advice (also can lead to 'doing' first) Have questions?
