27| The Story That Makes People Want to Work With You

The first time I told my story publicly, I told the cute version. I had been fired from a temporary job by a boss who didn't even show up to do it himself. He sent someone else who yelled at me through the whole thing. I sat in the car after and realized something I couldn't unsee. The table was never built for me anyway. But when I posted about it the first time, I said I left. Because I was embarrassed. I didn't want to look bad. So I cleaned the story up. And that post got a few polite likes and did absolutely nothing for my business. Then I told the truth. The whole thing. The yelling. The temporary job. The boss who didn't show up. The realization in the car. And that post didn't just get likes. It got DMs from women saying "I went through something similar." It got women asking how to work with me. It got me actual paying clients. That's the difference one story can make. In this episode I'm walking you through why your story is the most powerful sales asset you'll ever build, why information is everywhere but resonance is what converts, and the four-question framework I use to turn your messy real life into a 300-word origin story that makes the right women feel like you wrote it directly to them. In this episode you will hear why younger coaches with fresh certifications can't compete with your lived experience, the research behind why people buy stories over credentials, the four questions that build your origin story (where you were stuck, what changed, where you are now, who you help now), the biblical case for sharing your testimony out loud using Paul and the woman with the issue of blood, three specific things you can do this week to write and share your story, and what to do when fear of judgment makes you want to keep editing your truth out of the version you share. This is Episode 2 of my Build Your Coaching Business, Step by Step series. Listen to Episode 1 first if you missed it so you have the full context of The Three C's Method. 26| How to Leave Corporate America and Start a Coaching Business Over 40

In a single quarter of 2025, over 300,000 Black women exited the labor force. Black women are now the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in America. The corporate exodus isn't a trend, sis. It's a movement. And if you're sitting at your corporate desk right now wondering if it's too late to build something of your own, this episode is the answer to the question you've been afraid to ask out loud. But here's the part nobody's telling you. There's a specific order to leaving corporate and starting a coaching business that actually works. And most women try to do it in the wrong order, which is exactly why most women get stuck. I'm giving you the right order today. This is Episode 1 of my brand new series, Build Your Coaching Business, Step by Step. Over the next 13 episodes I'm walking you through The Three C's Method. Get Clear. Get Clients. Get Consistent. Three phases. One specific order. Skip any of them and the whole thing falls apart. Here's what I need you to know before you press play. When I first left corporate I had 20 plus years of experience, certifications, a story, a calling. And zero idea what to actually do first. So I did what most women do. I tried to do everything at once. I had 10 random links to 10 random offers on my website. I posted everywhere. I priced way too low. I tried to help everybody. I built a website nobody was looking at. And I almost quit. What finally turned it around was when I figured out the right order. The order I'm giving you in this episode. We're going deep on Phase 1, Get Clear, because nothing else works until you get this part right. I'm walking you through the Authority Inventory, the exact exercise I take every coaching client through. I'm showing you why your 20 plus years in corporate isn't background experience but actual curriculum. And I'm reframing your entire corporate season through scripture so you can finally see what God was building in you all those years. In this episode you will hear why most women try to start a coaching business from their job title and why that's the wrong starting point, the difference between credentials and transformation and why your ideal client is paying for one and not the other, the Authority Inventory exercise that gives your brain the evidence it needs to believe you're already a coach, what specialists earn versus generalists and the data behind why specificity is your advantage, the biblical case using Moses, Joseph, and Esther for why your corporate years weren't a delay but preparation, and three specific things you can do this week to start building. I also built a free companion workbook for this series called Get Clear. It has all four exercises from Phase 1 with fill in the blank pages so you're not staring at a blank document trying to figure out where to start. Grab it before you press play and follow along. 25| The Habit Corporate Taught You That Is Quietly Killing Your Coaching Business

You did everything right. You showed up early. You stayed late. You did the work. You kept your head down. You survived every room that told you to be less so everyone else could feel like more. And somewhere along the way you learned something that nobody taught you out loud. Make yourself smaller. Soften your voice. Smile when you are not happy. Stay quiet when you have the answer. Shrink. And here is what nobody told you when you finally walked out of that building. You took the shrinking with you. In this episode I am getting into something most coaches in this space will not say out loud. The same behavior that kept you safe in corporate is quietly showing up in your coaching business right now. In your vague messaging. You're avoiding a niche. Your underpriced offers. Your content that plays it safe when it should be speaking directly to the woman who needs you. And I know because I did it too. I left corporate and built my own business and I was still monitoring my tone. Still watching what I said. Still softening feedback that needed to land harder. Still following the rules of a system I had already left. This episode is for the high achieving woman who survived corporate, left the building, and is still shrinking inside the business she built herself. Here is what I need you to know before you press play. You did not choose to shrink. The system taught you to. It was a survival mechanism that worked. It kept you employed. It kept the retaliation at bay. It kept you in the room long enough to collect the expertise that is now the foundation of everything you are building. But you are not in that room anymore. And the rules of that room do not belong in your business. In this episode you will hear what shrinking actually is and the specific behaviors that signal it is happening, why you did not choose shrinking and why that matters for how you unlearn it, the McKinsey 2025 data that confirms what your body already knew about what corporate cost you, the Pet to Threat phenomenon and why Black women face a specific and documented version of this pattern, how shrinking followed you out of corporate and into your coaching business through vague messaging, niche avoidance, undercharging, and content that whispers instead of speaks, the faith case for using your full voice because staying silent is not humility, it is disobedience, and three specific actions you can take this week to start unlearning 20 plus years of making yourself small. Your voice is your assignment. God gave it to you on purpose for a purpose for the women who are waiting for someone who sounds exactly like you to finally say the thing out loud. This episode is going to name what has been happening. And once you name it you cannot unsee it. In this episode you will hear why shrinking was never your choice and why that distinction matters, the four specific forms shrinking takes and how to recognize each one in yourself, the data behind what constant self monitoring actually costs women professionally and personally, why Black women specifically experience the Pet to Threat phenomenon and what it does to your sense of safety at work, the exact moment I realized I had carried corporate shrinking into my own coaching business, how shrinking shows up differently in a coaching business than it does in a corporate job, the biblical case for claiming your full voice using Esther, Deborah, and the woman with the issue of blood, and your homework for this week. 24| What Neuroscience and the Bible Both Say About Becoming Who God Called You to Be

Over a year ago my mother lost the ability to walk. I had already left my corporate job to coach full time. There was no going back. No safety net. No plan B. Just me, my mom who needed me around the clock, and a coaching business that needed me to show up. And in the middle of the hardest season of my life I heard God ask me something that stopped me cold. Who do I say you are? Do you trust Me? That question sent me down a rabbit hole I was not expecting. Because what I discovered is that neuroscience and the Bible are saying the exact same thing about identity transformation. And once you understand what they are both saying together, you will never look at your hard season the same way again. Here is what I need you to know before you press play. Your brain does not know you are a coach yet. Not because you are not one. But because you have spent 20 plus years giving it evidence that you are a corporate professional. And now you are trying to tell it something different. So it is doing exactly what it is designed to do. It is resisting. It is pulling you back toward the familiar. It is whispering things like who are you to charge for this or you are not ready yet. That is not God. That is not wisdom. That is your brain running old programming. And you can change it. The Bible told us how thousands of years ago. Neuroscience just caught up. In this episode I am connecting the dots between Romans 12:2, Joshua 1:8, Hebrews 12:11, Colossians 3:2 and 3:23, and Romans 8:28 and what neuroscience has discovered about neuroplasticity, neuroplasticity windows, and self-perception theory. And I am telling you the full story of what happened when I chose to answer God's question with action instead of waiting to answer it with a feeling. This is not a motivational episode. It is a practical one. And by the time it is over you are going to know exactly what to do this week to start giving your brain the evidence it needs to catch up to who God already says you are. If you have been waiting to feel like a coach before you start acting like one, this episode is going to be the most important thing you listen to this week. Because the harvest does not come to those who wait to feel ready. It comes to those who are trained by the discipline. And your hardest season is not slowing down that process. It is accelerating it. In this episode you will hear what neuroplasticity actually is and why your brain is not as fixed as you think, why your hardest seasons are actually your neuroplasticity windows and what that means for you right now, the Hebrew meaning of the word meditate in Joshua 1:8 and why God gave Joshua a complete neuroscience protocol before walking into battle, what Romans 12:2 is actually describing when it says be transformed by the renewing of your mind, the full story of what happened when God asked me who do I say you are in the middle of caregiving full time with no corporate safety net, why acting from your new identity before you feel it is not fake and what the research says about why it works, and the exact first actions I took when I decided to stop waiting to feel like a coach and start being one. 23| The Real Reason You Can't Choose a Niche (It's Not What You Think)

Let me ask you something before you hit play. What does your LinkedIn headline say right now? If it says something like "helping women live their best life" or "Christian entrepreneur passionate about purpose" or "empowering women to reach their full potential," sis, we need to talk. Because that headline is talking to everybody and reaching nobody. And until that changes, the algorithm is not your problem. Your vagueness is. In this episode I am getting into something most coaches will not say out loud. Your niche problem is actually a courage problem. And I know because I lived it. I had 20 plus years of corporate experience, health coaching and stress management certifications, a ministry background, a burnout story, and ten links to ten different random offers on my website. I thought knowing a lot meant I should offer a lot. I thought not wanting to turn anyone away was generous. It wasn't generous, sis; it's fear. Here is what finally did it for me. Someone reached out wanting to work with me. And I sat there reading their message thinking two things at the exact same time. They have absolutely no idea what I actually do and I don't want to work with this person. That uncomfortable moment was the beginning of everything changing. In this episode we get into why a vague message is invisible no matter how consistently you post, the direct connection between your LinkedIn headline and your empty DMs that nobody is explaining clearly, why your ideal client is not ignoring you but genuinely cannot recognize herself in your content, the real reason you have not picked a niche yet even though you have heard the advice a hundred times, and three things you can do today, not someday, to fix this before you record another piece of content. This is the episode I wish someone had sat me down and made me listen to before I spent years confusing the wrong people and hiding from the right ones. If you have been posting consistently and getting crickets, if your DMs are quiet and your follower count is not moving, if you have been wondering whether you are just not cut out for this, this episode is going to give you a very different diagnosis. And the good news is it is completely fixable. In this episode you will hear why your vague LinkedIn headline is directly connected to your empty client roster, the story of the inquiry that finally forced me to get specific about who I serve, why the reticular activating system in your ideal client's brain means a vague message is scientifically invisible to her, the real fear underneath the "I help everyone" story you have been telling yourself, the faith case for choosing a specific person to serve using Moses and Esther as your evidence, and three concrete actions you can take today to start fixing this before you post another single piece of content. 22| 300,000 Black Women Left Corporate in 2025. Here's What They're Building.

I want to tell you about the day a man yelled "don't get upset" at me while I was sitting completely calm asking straightforward questions in a soft voice about my own termination. I was not upset. I was composed. I was professional. And none of it mattered because he had already decided who I was before I opened my mouth. And that was the moment it clicked. There was nothing I could say or do to change how he saw me. So I walked out of that building and said something to myself that I have never forgotten. They will always treat you this way. There is nothing you can say or do to change how they see you. So you have got to get out of here and build your own thing. That was over fifteen years ago. And it is still happening today. In this episode I am telling that story in full. And I am connecting it to data that most people in the faith and business space are not talking about. In a single quarter of 2025, over 300,000 Black women exited the labor force. Black women are now the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the United States. Black women owned businesses grew 13 percent between 2024 and 2025 and now generate over 118 billion dollars annually. We did not leave because we failed. We left because we figured something out. This episode is for the woman who just left corporate, whether she walked out or got walked out, and is standing in that space trying to figure out what to build next. I am not going to give you a pep talk. I am going to give you the truth, the data, the story, and the practical first steps that I wish someone had handed me fifteen years ago when I walked out of that building. This is not a survival story. It is a strategic leadership story. And it is time we started telling it that way. In this episode you will hear the full story of the termination meeting that changed everything and what it revealed about the table I had been sitting at. The data on why Black women are leaving corporate at historic rates and what they are building instead. The psychological cost of code switching and over performing for decades and why so many women describe their exit as a recalibration not a crisis. What the first 90 days after leaving corporate actually look like and the questions worth asking before you start building. Why God did not give you those gifts for corporate to ignore them. And what it actually means to build your own table instead of waiting for a seat at someone else's. 21| The Honest Truth About Coaching Certifications for Christian Women Over 40

I have four coaching certifications. A health coaching certification from IIN and a stress management certification (and a couple other ones) I got because I was convinced I needed more credentials before I could really help people. And then I had a client session that changed everything I thought I knew about what actually qualifies you to coach. She did not want to hear about the different types of stress. She did not care about the clinical frameworks or the terminology I had just spent thousands of dollars learning. She wanted to feel like a human being again. And the certification did not give me what I needed to help her get there. My own lived experience of burnout did. The moment I stopped teaching her and started telling her what I actually went through and what actually got me out, everything shifted. That is when I knew. The paper was not the credential. My story was. In this episode I am giving you the honest answer about coaching certifications that the industry is not giving you. Not because certifications are useless. Some of them are genuinely valuable programs. But because a certification is not what is standing between you and your first coaching client, and someone needs to say that out loud with real numbers and real evidence behind it. Here is what we are getting into today. The real cost of coaching certifications in 2026, from four thousand dollars to over nineteen thousand, and what the ROI data actually says. Why certified coaches charge more per session and the truth about whether that premium comes from the paper or something else entirely. What my clients actually said when the testimonials came in and why none of it had anything to do with my credentials. When you should actually raise your rates and what the real signal is that tells you it is time. The honest roadmap for getting your first client without spending another dollar on credentials you do not need yet. And why God called you before He certified you and what that means for where you are right now. This is not an anti-certification episode. It is a pro-calling episode. And if you have been sitting on your coaching business waiting to feel officially qualified enough to start, this one is going to move something in you. In this episode you will hear the client session story that proved my lived experience was worth more than my certification. The real numbers behind what coaching certifications cost and what they actually deliver. Why the certification premium is about belief not paper and what that means for how you price your coaching. The honest roadmap from zero clients to raised rates without a single certification required. What Moses, Esther, and every woman God has ever used have in common with where you are standing right now. And the one thing that is actually missing in your coaching business right now and it is not a credential. 20| Why Calling Social Media the Devil is Costing the Church its Future

For years I asked my church to build a website. I was a licensed minister in the AME Church and I could see exactly what was coming. I even learned how to build websites myself so I could offer to do it for free. And they said no every single time. Until 2020 hit and left them no choice. In this episode I am telling that full story for the first time. What it looked like when the churches that called the internet the devil suddenly needed the internet to survive. What happened when I stopped waiting for permission and built the website, the Facebook page, and the online giving system they had refused for years. And why the congregation's tithes kept coming in, the people stayed connected, and a church that had demonized these tools used every single one of them to keep the lights on during a pandemic. But this episode is about more than COVID and conference calls. It is about a pattern that has been repeating in the church for decades. Every new tool gets called the devil. The internet. Social media. Digital giving. Online church. And every time the church waits too long to engage, the world moves forward without them and the people inside the church, especially the women with decades of corporate experience, skills, and calling, get left further and further behind. Your congregation is full of women who could build a revenue strategy for the church by Wednesday. Women who know marketing, communications, finance, technology, and strategy at a level most churches have never tapped into. And instead of equipping them and listening to them, too many churches are asking them to bring a covered dish to the next fundraiser. This is not an anti-church episode. It is a pro-calling episode. And there is a difference. If you have ever been the woman in the room with the answer nobody asked for, this one is going to say out loud what you have been feeling for years. In this episode you will hear the history of the church calling technology the devil and what it cost them when COVID hit. The full story of how I built a website, Facebook page, and online giving system for a church that refused to ask for help until a pandemic forced their hand. Why churches that demonize social media are leaving Kingdom money and Kingdom impact on the table. The real reason so many Christian women with decades of corporate experience are still sitting on their calling. What it looks like to stop waiting for permission and build the thing anyway. And why the tools are not the devil. The fear of using them is. 18| The Imposter Phenomenon: Why Qualified Women Still Don't Feel Ready to Coach

If you have been sitting on your coaching calling because you do not feel qualified enough to charge for it, this episode was made specifically for you. In this episode I am breaking down the real science behind why so many qualified Christian women over 40 still feel like frauds when it comes to launching their coaching businesses. Not the surface level explanation you have already heard. The actual psychology underneath it, what your brain is doing, why it hits hardest during transitions, and what you can do right now to change it. Here is what I need you to know before you press play. You are not a fraud. You are not broken. You are not behind. You are a high achiever in the middle of a transition and your brain is doing exactly what high achievers' brains do when the rules of the game change. Once you understand that, everything shifts. In this episode you will hear why what you are feeling is called the imposter phenomenon, not imposter syndrome, and why that distinction matters more than you think. You will learn the hermit crab analogy that explains exactly what this transition feels like and why the discomfort is not a warning sign. 17| Client Boundaries, Caregiving, and the Business Pivot That Changed Everything

I owe you an explanation for where I've been. And honestly, I think my explanation might be exactly what you needed to hear today. Over a year ago, my mom was misdiagnosed at a hospital. She spent several weeks hospitalized. When she came home, she couldn't walk. She still hasn't taken a step. And in the middle of that season, I had to figure out something nobody prepares you for: how do you keep showing up for the women God called you to serve when your family needs everything you have? The honest answer is, for a while, I couldn't do either one well. In this episode I'm pulling back the curtain on what that season taught me, why I made the pivot from one on one coaching to digital products, and how everything I learned about protecting my capacity as a caregiver maps directly onto the client boundaries every coach needs to build a sustainable business. This is not a polished comeback episode. It is an honest one. And if you are somewhere in the middle of a hard season right now, trying to figure out how to keep building without running yourself into the ground, this conversation is for you. In this episode you'll hear: Why I went silent for four months and what finally brought me back. What happened when I sat down to record one day and nothing came out, not one word. The pivot I made to digital products and why it terrified me at first. Three boundaries I learned from caregiving that every coach needs right now. Why protecting your capacity is not selfish. It is the ministry. What God showed me about building a business that works even when your life gets complicated. 14| Christian Toxic Positivity: Why 'Bloom Where You're Planted' Needs to Die

Sis… if one more person tells you to “bloom where you’re planted” when you know God’s calling you to more — whew, we need to talk. 😤 This popular Pinterest quote sounds inspiring, but it’s keeping too many Christian women stuck where God never told them to stay. In this episode, I’m breaking down why “bloom where you’re planted” isn’t biblical, how it’s been used to guilt ambitious women out of their callings, and what Scripture actually teaches about moving when God says move. If you’ve been told to “just be content” while something inside of you knows it’s time for change, this conversation will set you free from false humility and help you step into obedience — even when it means uprooting. 🌱 💡 In This Episode You’ll Discover: Why “bloom where you’re planted” appears zero times in Scripture Biblical examples of people who moved when God called (Abraham, Moses, Ruth, Paul) The truth about contentment vs. complacency — and how to know which one you’re walking in How this phrase gets weaponized to keep women playing small Three reflection questions to discern if God is calling you to move 🙌🏽 Key Quote: “God is more interested in your fruitfulness than your stability. Your restlessness isn’t rebellion — it’s revelation.” What to do Next: Know deep down God’s calling you to something greater? 12|The Hard Truth About Why You Feel Unfulfilled: Your Corporate Job Is Hiding Your Calling

Sis, if you're spending 40-plus hours a week using maybe 20% of who God created you to be, this episode is your wake-up call. After 22 years in corporate, I learned the hard truth: every promotion was just another shovel of dirt on my God-given gifts. And if you're a professional woman over 40 feeling like there's got to be more than quarterly projections and stakeholder reports, you're absolutely right. Today I'm sharing why that Roman philosopher Seneca was spot-on about how we waste our lives, how corporate America turned you into a professional gift-hider without you even knowing it, and the stewardship conversation every Christian woman needs to hear. Because honey, the women who need your specific wisdom, your hard-earned insights, and your battle-tested faith? They can't wait for you to feel "ready." What We're Covering Today We're diving deep into why that nagging feeling of unfulfillment isn't just Monday blues - it's your soul telling you something important. I'm breaking down how corporate culture systematically buries the very gifts God gave you to use for His kingdom. We'll talk about the stewardship aspect that most people don't want to address, and why staying comfortable in a job that uses only a fraction of your abilities might actually be disobedience disguised as responsibility. Take Action Not sure what type of coach you're meant to be? Head over to businesschurchlife.com and take my free quiz: "What Type of Faith-Based Coach Are You SECRETLY Meant to Be?" I show Christian women over 40 how to package their skills into Kingdom work and get paid for it. I learned this lesson watching my beautiful, intelligent mom — a woman who worked hard her whole life but never truly bet on herself. She taught me something powerful: if I don't bet on myself, who will? Now I help women who are scared to take that leap stop tying their worth to a job and finally step into their God-given ministry. 11| Too Old to Coach? Why 52 is Your Sweet Spot

Sis, are you staring down 52 wondering if you're "too old" to give coaching a real shot? Let's stop for a second and get some perspective here. Failure isn't the monster your mind makes it out to be. In fact, trying and stumbling is part of the process — and it teaches you invaluable lessons that you can't get any other way. And contrary to the myth that coaching itself is some magical "business," it's actually a skill you pair with your expertise to solve specific problems. If you're worried this is your "last shot" and you don't want to waste precious time, this episode will completely reframe everything you think you know about age, timing, and starting over. We're going to dig into why starting at 52 is actually right on schedule, how to define failure realistically instead of catastrophically, and how to use your two decades of experience as your secret weapon. What We're Covering Today Today we're talking about why 52 is actually the perfect time — you're not "behind," you're perfectly positioned for maximum impact. We'll get real about what failure actually looks like versus that horror movie playing in your head. I'm sharing my bridge-building strategy for how to exit corporate without those dramatic quitting scenes that burn all your bridges. Plus, we'll dive into how your 20-plus years of corporate work make you uniquely equipped, not limited. We're covering the five big advantages you have over those 25-year-olds everyone thinks have it all figured out. I've got biblical proof that God's timing isn't tied to your age — hello, Moses was 80 when he started his ministry! And because I know you're a planner, we're creating a real "what if it doesn't work" plan so you're prepared either way. Finally, we're flipping the script on turning age discrimination into age advantage. Reality Check Time Here's your reality check: You're planning for 15 to 20 more productive years, not just five. That's an entire second career, sister. The real failure? Staying in a soul-draining job because you're too scared to step out and see what God has planned for this next season. Ready to Map Out Your Exit? If you're ready to stop just thinking about this and start planning for it, I've got something for you. Head over to businesschurchlife.com and grab my Corporate Exodus Financial Reality Check Workbook. This is a no-fluff guide for women who are too smart to leap blindly but too alive to stay stuck where they are. Here's what you'll get inside: An 18-month reality check with realistic timelines for launching later in life. Financial worksheets that help you calculate exactly what you need to feel secure making this transition. Three different exit plans so you can build bridges instead of burning them. We've got "what if" scenarios to plan for delays or unexpected costs, because let's be real — stuff happens. There's a faith-based decision framework with biblical wisdom but without all those prosperity-gospel clichés that make you cringe. You'll get a corporate skills translation guide that shows you exactly how your skills become your superpower, plus an age-advantage assessment that turns your supposed weaknesses into competitive advantages. And as a bonus, I'm including an emergency fund calculator and a bridge-building timeline template. This isn't about ignoring the challenges of starting later in life. It's about facing them head-on with a plan that actually works. Let's Connect I want to hear from you. What have you always wanted to try but told yourself you're "too old" for?
