What If Your Survival Story Is Not You

Send us Fan MailSomething feels off lately: people are quicker to snap, slower to trust, and tired in a way sleep can’t fix. I sit with that feeling out loud and ask whether we’re still carrying COVID-era survival mode without realising it, hoarding not just food and money but emotional energy too. If you’ve felt more triggered, more cynical, or strangely guarded, you’re not alone and you’re not “broken” for it.From there, I go back to what I always return to in healing work: stories of origin. Family systems pass things down with frightening efficiency, including the parts we swear we’ll never repeat. I talk about inherited pride and “vexation,” the way vulnerability can become dangerous in certain homes, and how we can reject a person yet keep the pattern. This is mindful living with honesty: looking back as research, not as self-attack.Then we sit with Joseph. Not the polished highlight reel, but the human process of becoming. Joseph is favoured and still betrayed, privileged and still forced to grow up in a new environment. I connect that to my own “Egypts” from school to heartbreak to a hard workplace season, including what it taught me about approval addiction, integrity, boundaries, and learning to carry the truth in a way that’s actually useful. We land on mindful leaving: asking what you’re carrying, why you’re carrying it, whether it still serves you, and what it might look like to put it down.If any part of this resonates, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the show. A Brother’s Faith And The Questions That Follow

Send us Fan MailHow do you keep living when the answer never comes? We start with a question that is easy to dodge and hard to sit with: how are you, really. Then we slow down, breathe, and make room for the truth that being triggered doesn’t mean you’re failing. Sometimes it’s simply a wound saying, “I’m still here,” and compassion is where healing begins.I introduce you to my little brother, Yanolua, as a full person before illness tries to rename him. He dreams of broadcasting, he keeps believing even when life is unkind, and he carries a kind of faith that both comforts and confuses me. When systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease, enters our story, it changes the body, the family, and the future. You’ll also hear two powerful journal entries read in his voice, words that hold pain, mystery, rescue, and the longing for a solid foundation. From there, the conversation widens to my own body and my own questions after major surgeries, especially the anger behind “but I did everything right.” We talk about family health inheritance, chronic illness, grief, and the pressure to find a culprit. A moment from John chapter 9 pushes back on blame and shame, reminding us that suffering doesn’t always come with a simple reason, and a human being is never just a punishment. We end with an invitation I’m still learning to obey: stop turning your pain into a courtroom, and go live anyway. If this moved something tender in you, listen through, share it with someone who needs it, and subscribe for more. Staying Yourself In Babylon

Send us Fan MailThe world can rename you without ever touching your birth certificate. It can do it through praise you start chasing, criticism you start believing, trauma you didn’t ask for, or a culture that rewards you most when you feel yourself the least. So we start somewhere simple and brave: I ask “How are you, really?” and we slow down enough to answer with honesty, breath, and a body that has been holding more than it admits. From there, we move into identity, not the identity on application forms, but the quiet self that shows up when your values collide with the environment around you. I reflect on Daniel in Babylon, where the pressure to assimilate doesn’t begin with obvious harm, but with opportunity, training, and subtle renaming. We talk about the labels we carry that were never ours to keep, the cost of belonging that feels conditional, and the moment Daniel “resolved” before the miracles, before the lions, before the spotlight. We also name the modern Babylons that whisper instead of shout: approval, productivity, perfection, people pleasing, and the exhausting urge to be understood by everyone. I share the difference between stubbornness and resolve, why solitude can be reunion rather than loneliness, and why healing is not always an exit. Sometimes the win is staying yourself right where you are, keeping your center while you live, love, and serve in the real world. If this conversation gives you language for what you’ve been feeling, subscribe, rate the show, and share it with someone you love. Living Without Neat Answers While You Wait

Send us Fan MailHow do you live when life refuses to make sense and the answers never arrive on time? We start with a simple question that can change the whole day: “How are you… really?” Not the polite version, the honest one. Then we slow down, soften our shoulders, breathe, and practice mindfulness as a way to come home to ourselves when we feel tempted to hide. We also celebrate three years of this podcast as more than content: a shared healing journey built on showing up, even through silence, surgery, and seasons when surviving takes more energy than speaking. I reflect on what I expected at the beginning versus what actually happened, including the surprising truth that this space has been healing me too. If you care about mental health, emotional resilience, and faith that can hold complexity, you’ll feel the heartbeat of this conversation. From there we walk with Sarah, not to defend her or judge her, but to keep her company. We explore the grief of waiting, the pain of holding a promise without evidence, and what it might have felt like when Hagar became pregnant. Instead of tying the story into a neat bow, we honour the silence in the text and the messiness in the human heart. That leads to a deeper takeaway: safety is not always found in certainty. Sometimes safety is found in capacity, the ability to hold joy and grief, faith and questions, hope and disappointment, love and hurt, and still keep walking. If this resonates, share it with someone who needs permission to be human while they wait, follow the show wherever you listen, and leave a review so more people can find mindful living that’s honest and grounded. I Memorised The Script Then Cried

Send us Fan MailYou can be “doing everything right” and still feel hollow inside. That’s the quiet cost of approval addiction: the constant performing, the overthinking, the perfectionism that looks like excellence from the outside but feels like panic on the inside. We start with a grounded check-in and a short breath and body release, because healing is not a speech, it’s a practice. Then we trace how our relationship with “what if” thinking can turn into negotiating with history, replaying old scenes when what we really want is to matter. From there, we name the pattern clearly: the need to be accepted, liked, and chosen can become an identity, shaping how we speak, how we work, and how we show up in relationships.I share a story from my first day on radio, when I memorised a script and still hesitated because it didn’t feel perfect, and how a simple compliment made me cry because it felt like being seen. We also sit with Jacob’s story and the question of what we inherit from family systems where love feels divided and comparison becomes normal. At the river Jabbok, the mask drops and the wrestling begins, a picture of healing that doesn’t always look like winning, but does look like honesty. We close with a gentle, direct question you can carry into your week: Where in my life am I still performing in hope of being accepted? If this resonated, share it with someone who needs permission to breathe, and please follow, rate, and review the show so more people can find these conversations. My Inner Child Filed A Formal Complaint

Send us Fan MailSome pain doesn’t end with a bow, and that doesn’t mean you’re failing. I’m talking about ambiguous grief, also known as ambiguous loss, the kind of grief that lacks closure because something is gone but never really leaves, or something is present but no longer feels available. When I didn’t have language for that, my mind kept trying to solve what only needed to be understood, and it wore me out.I hold that reality up next to the Book of Job, not the highlight reel ending, but the middle where most of us actually live. Job’s world falls apart, his friends show up with confident explanations, and he’s left carrying the weight of questions that don’t cooperate. That tension feels familiar when people narrate our pain better than they understand our experience, even when they mean well. Then I get personal about a longer hypermanic episode that had no clear trigger and no easy loop to close. What surprised me wasn’t an answer, but a voice I hadn’t listened to in years: a younger version of me asking not to be fixed, but to be seen. I share what it looked like to respond with recognition instead of another rushed explanation, and why perspective can bring a different kind of peace even when closure never arrives. If you’ve been searching for a neat reason, consider a gentler question: who inside you is still waiting for acknowledgement? When Confidence Is A Mask

Send us Fan MailConfidence isn’t always confidence. Sometimes it’s insecurity with good posture, a steady voice, and years of practice hiding in plain sight. We talk directly to our mindful partners about what it feels like when your inner world is loud, your outer world looks “fine,” and your mental health keeps asking the same questions in new ways.We trace where that quiet insecurity can begin, including a story from radio and the cruel little whisper it leaves behind: “only your voice is beautiful.” From there, we slow the pace with a guided body check, because the body often notices what the mind tries to edit. We sit with the uncomfortable truth that evidence can bring closure without bringing change, and that masks can become normal especially when social media rewards the polished version of us.Faith shows up as a mirror, not a performance. The story of Gideon becomes a companion for anyone who feels unqualified, afraid, or “not enough,” and we explore why honest questions can be more transformative than perfect certainty. We also name the inner sentences that trap us, including the way anxiety can sound like wisdom, and we land on a surprising reframe: healing can feel like subtraction less certainty, less performance, less masking until you find the part of you that can actually fight. If something speaks to you here, subscribe, share this with someone you love, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation. My Inner Narrator Could Use A Nap

Send us Fan MailThe loudest voice in your life might be the one nobody else can hear. We’re talking about personal dialogue the inner self-talk that shapes your mental health, your relationships, and the choices you make when life gets heavy. I’m not asking you to borrow my map of healing. I’m unfolding mine, so you can recognise your own patterns and start building a language that actually supports you. We start with a hard truth: even a beautiful story of origin can leave you with a script that breaks down the moment “privilege stops working.” When the identity you built around being the helper becomes the reason you can’t ask for help, the real battle is internal. That’s why we dig into self-language the voice your body speaks, the voice your relationships inherit, and the voice you use on yourself when nobody is listening. Then I bring in the Red Sea crossing as a metaphor for healing: not just the miracle, but the long night of wind, fear, and walking forward while old identities still shout behind you. Sometimes faith begins with borrowing courage from the people walking beside you. We pause for a body check-in, because mindfulness and breath are not accessories they’re tools for settling the nervous system so the story can settle too. I also speak openly about living with bipolar II, masking, and what it means to sit with the darkest voices instead of rushing to suppress them. A line from Brianna Wiest shifts the frame: healed doesn’t mean flawless; it means sadness, fear, and grief no longer run the whole conversation. A Novel That Rewrites Manliness

Send us Fan MailA man can look “fine” and still be standing on a ledge inside his own mind. That tension sits at the heart of our conversation with author Ulutumbi Ito about his novel My Mrs. Solomon: A Man’s Quest For True Manliness, and why storytelling may be one of the most effective ways to start honest men’s mental health conversations without shame or posturing. We talk about the quiet rules many boys learn early: don’t cry, don’t admit fear, don’t ask for help. Then we follow what those rules can cost over time, especially when abuse happens to boys and the only socially acceptable response is laughter or denial. From emotional silence to suicide risk, we name the patterns that keep men isolated, and we challenge the cultural “alpha male” mirage that insists everything must be perfect. The episode also digs into relationships and recovery. We explore how a supportive partner and a strong friend circle can create the safety a man needs to finally speak, and why many men struggle with emotional vocabulary in the first place. Faith and family show up too: we question what “safety” means, what parental accountability looks like, and how a fresh lens on Peter walking on water reframes courage as the willingness to ask for help. If you care about men’s mental health, healing from trauma, marriage under pressure, parenting with awareness, or building real support systems, press play and sit with us. You Are Human Before You Are A Man.

Send us Fan MailThe world is loud right now: war, economic stress, nonstop online gender battles, and the quiet feeling that everyone is bracing for impact. So we take a different approach. We pause, breathe, and talk honestly about men’s mental health, not as a trend, but as a survival issue and a relationship issue that touches families, marriages, friendships, and whole communities. My guest, Elishius Olalua, helps me name the thing many men can feel but struggle to explain: a script of strength that gets handed to boys early and enforced later through shame, status, and silence. We unpack what “being strong” is often taught to mean in Nigerian and wider African homes, why vulnerability can feel expensive, and how men end up saying “I’m okay” even when they are overwhelmed. We also explore the hidden cost of tying a man’s worth only to what he provides, and why provision has to include the state of your mind, spirit, and emotional health not just money. We go deeper into emotional literacy: why anger becomes the “allowed” emotion, why many men lack language for what they feel, and what it takes to ask for help without feeling like you’re failing. We end with a grounded takeaway, one reflective question for your journal, and a practical invitation to create safer spaces for boys and men to be fully human. If any part of this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone you care about, and leave a review so more people can find these healing conversations. Give Me My Flowers

Send us Fan Mail“Give me my flowers while I’m still here” sounds like a clean rule for life, but once you factor in loneliness, shifting relationships, and the masks we wear to survive, it gets complicated fast. We start with a simple mental health frame I keep coming back to: alignment. When your thoughts, emotions, and actions aren’t at war, you feel more grounded. And because language shapes our inner world, reframing common phrases can be a surprisingly powerful mindfulness practice. We talk about why social media can feel so loud, why so many of us crave a seat at the table, and how the most connected generation can still feel painfully alone. I pause for a breath with you and ask the question that can change a lot: whose opinion still steadies you or shakes you, and why? From there, we go into the armor we reach for when we’re afraid, pulling from Brené Brown’s insight that armor, not fear, is what blocks love, connection, and our values. Then we bring it back to “flowers” and relationships. Some people drift with no fight, no drama, just distance, and when loss arrives we remember the beauty more than the gap. We also look at friendship through a lens that challenges the usual definition, including Simon Sinek’s idea that real friends aren’t only there for hard times, they’re the people who can celebrate your good news without making you feel like you’re bragging. We end with reflection questions you can sit with all week and a reminder that sometimes the most mindful move is to give yourself flowers while you learn how to ask for what you need.If it resonates, subscribe, share it with someone you’re walking beside, and leave a review so more people can find these mental health and mindfulness conversations. Taking Responsibility Without Losing Connection

Send us Fan Mail“No one is coming to save you” is supposed to be motivating, but what if it’s also making us lonelier? We start with a simple mindful check-in, soften the body, breathe, and ask the real question beneath the slogan: how are you actually doing right now, and what happens inside you when you hear that line online?I explore the tension between personal responsibility and human connection. Yes, we own our choices, our healing, and our next step. But we’re also living in a time where constant connectivity can hide deep isolation, and where the myth of being “self-made” quietly erases the friends, partners, mentors, and communities that keep us steady. I share a personal story from an earlier podcast attempt that stalled, how fear showed up when it was time to begin again, and how support sometimes “saves” us without rescuing us by doing the work. From there, we get practical and honest about trust and vulnerability. Who is safe?Who do you share your scars with? And how do you ask for help when you’ve learned to do everything alone? We also reflect on friendship as a life-changing force, the kind that reminds you of what’s good in you, and we end with questions you can sit with after the audio ends.If this conversation lands for you, subscribe, share it with someone you trust, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What’s one area of your life where you’re resisting help? Repetition Can Be Real Growth

Send us Fan Mail“Nothing happens in your comfort zone” gets quoted like a law, but I’m not convinced it tells the whole truth. Sometimes the most meaningful growth happens in the quiet, repetitive middle when you keep showing up, keep practicing, and finally start seeing yourself differently. That’s the thread I pull on here, starting with a simple mantra I live by: it’s about showing up, not perfection.I talk through the tension honestly, including what it felt like to stay in one organisation for years and slowly notice that comfort can turn into quiet dissatisfaction. Not dramatic, not rebellious, just that clear internal question: is this still it? From there we explore a more mindful way to think about change, career transitions, and personal growth without turning “leaving” into a badge of honour or “staying” into a shame story. You’ll also hear a quick breathing reset to help you settle, plus two reframes that can change how you treat yourself: “practice makes progress” and the idea of tessitura, a singer’s most comfortable range, not as limitation but as mastery. We end with five reflection questions you can journal with right away, especially if you’re working on self-awareness, mental wellbeing, and learning how to move at your own pace.If this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who’s wrestling with a transition, and leave a review so more mindful partners can find the show. Why Slowing Down Builds Real Strength

Send us Fan MailMindfulness gets mislabeled as soft, fragile, or unrealistic and that misunderstanding keeps a lot of us stuck in speed mode. I’m pushing back on that. Slowing down, choosing stillness, and listening to yourself when everything around you rewards motion can be the truest kind of resilience. We start with a personal turning point: a season of silence that changes how I show up, from constant output to real alignment. From there, we go straight into the tension many of us feel, that quiet resistance to mindful living, and why presence can look like weakness from the outside. I also share a language reframe that has helped my mental health for years: replacing the word “problems” with “questions” so the mind stays open to solutions instead of collapsing into helplessness. Then we touch the nerve that sits underneath so many reactions: vulnerability. Using Brene Brown’s research on uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure, I connect courage to mindfulness in a practical way. You’ll hear two everyday stories, one about responding to a friend who calls me out and another about catching urgency in my body while baking bread, to show how mindful awareness becomes boundaries, agency, and self-respect.If you want journal prompts for stillness, disagreement, and defining resilience for yourself, you’ll leave with clear questions to write through. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs a gentler kind of strength, and leave a review so more people can find the show. The Question That Saved A Life

Send us Fan MailOne late night, I asked a throwaway radio question because I needed something to fill a segment. Months later, a woman called during a Christmas broadcast and told me that question made her pause long enough to choose life. I’ve carried that moment for years, and it changed how I understand the power of words, not as motivation, but as responsibility. We talk about what it means to speak like someone might be listening on their hardest day, because they might be. I share why I never asked her to explain her pain, and how “holding space” can be more healing than investigating. We also get personal about sensitivity, the pull toward cynicism, and what it’s like trying to stay reflective in a hard world while living with bipolar affective disorder. You’ll hear a short guided breathing practice and the mindfulness framework I lean on in my own healing journey: stop, breathe, notice, reflect, respond, and resolve. Then I leave you with the same question that once saved a life and three gentle reflections you can journal with, especially if you’re rebuilding your relationship with yourself, your story, and your mental health. If this helped, subscribe, share it with someone who needs a pause, and leave a review so more listeners can find the series. Permission To Dance Badly And Call It Healing

Send us Fan MailHealing can sound big and dramatic, but for me it often starts with something small: a pause, a breath, and the courage to stop rushing past the parts of my story that still sting. After last week’s heavy conversation, I wanted to offer a gentler follow-up that still stays honest about death, grief, and the weight we carry, while pointing toward relief. A bookstore moment brought it all into focus for me: the phrase “Healing Is The New High” from Vex King. I didn’t even know what was inside the book yet, but the title felt like a promise I needed to keep close.Life today can feel like a cassette tape on fast forward, too much noise and too many thoughts at once. Mental health conversations are finally everywhere, and that’s good, but I also ask a harder question: are we creating real understanding, or just joining another trend? I keep it simple. Mental well-being is how we navigate everyday stress, emotions, relationships, and even economic pressure. Being mentally whole doesn’t mean life is always pleasant; it means we learn to face both joy and difficulty without losing ourselves in either. From there, I get practical about inner healing as an investment in yourself and the kind of world you want to build. I share two tools that help me: play and journaling. Drawing from Brené Brown, I define play as joy without obligation or outcome and I talk about singing loudly, dancing off beat, and creating small moments of freedom. Then I move into journaling as a self care practice for emotional wellbeing, a place to tell the truth, pray, and track your growth. I also leave you with prompts you can take into your week, because sometimes the question is where healing begins. Facing The Mirror

Send us Fan MailSexual abuse stories trend every week, and the internet reacts like it has only two buttons: defend and attack. But when the noise gets louder, the people behind the story can disappear. We slow the pace down and ask what those viral debates are really doing to our bodies, our minds, and our ability to heal. I share why these headlines can feel so personal, how unhealed wounds show up as anger or certainty, and why a mindful breath is sometimes the first act of courage. We explore an old allegory about deflection and blame as a mirror for modern conversations about exploitation and molestation. If we say we want accountability, we have to be willing to look at the parts of the story we avoid, especially the family silence that keeps harm alive for generations. I also share a pivotal moment from my own journey, including a psychiatrist’s hard question about the cycle of abuse and what it means to refuse that cycle. Then we hold space for an anonymous caller’s story, a reminder that survival often looks like leaving, choosing safety, and carrying secrets for decades. Healing does not mean forgetting. It can mean the trauma no longer narrates your whole life. We talk about naming the wound, reclaiming authorship, and why the way forward is quieter and more personal than social media arguments: truth spoken in safe homes, faith spaces, and healing spaces where survivors are protected and supported. If you know someone who’s hurting, share this with them, subscribe for more redemptive stories, and leave a review so more people can find a starting point for healing. You Can Share A Past Yet Live Two Truths

Send us Fan MailAre you reacting to what’s happening or to the story your nervous system learned to tell about what’s happening? That question sits at the center of this reflective Mindfully With Some Shadow Space session, where I slow down with you to look at perspective as the quiet force shaping grief, conflict, certainty, and even the way we interpret ordinary objects. I start with what I heard from listeners after a series on societal narcissism: stories of loss, dismissal, and the strange ways people police grief. From there, we widen the lens to the psychological weight of modern life. We’re overstimulated, carrying a firehose of information in our pockets, performing our opinions in public, and forming instant judgments before the facts arrive. When everything feels urgent, we don’t just think faster, we harden faster. Then we ground the idea of perspective in two stories. One comes from Bones, where two siblings share the same childhood yet walk away with different truths. The other is personal: a clock I saw as flames chasing time, while my friend saw open palms trying to save it. That single image opens into deeper work around origin stories, emotional safety, survival mode, and why some of us notice danger first. We end with a practical mindfulness invitation: breathe, slow perception, and try a beginner’s mind, because certainty can be the biggest obstacle to understanding. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review. What do you see first when you look at your own life right now: flames or open palms? Food As Culture, Memory, And Medicine For The Body And Mind

Send us Fan MailYour plate is a mirror. Not just of taste, but of attention, memory, and the way your body asks for care long before you feel unwell. We sit down with a chef, speaker, and wellness advocate whose mantra—make your food your medicine—turns everyday choices into a healing practice that’s rooted in culture and guided by presence. We start where most of us rush past: the market. Why busy shoppers often pay more for worse produce, how pre-sliced greens hide older stock, and why price “deals” can signal hidden processing that taxes your gut. From simple hygiene rituals to DIY prep and smarter sourcing, we lay out small, reliable steps that improve digestion, sleep, and mental clarity without sacrificing flavor. If you’ve ever felt trapped between “healthy” and “tasty,” you’ll hear how to redesign familiar meals—keeping stews, porridges, and local staples—while swapping oils, methods, and seasoning so the plan sticks. The conversation dives into the gut–brain connection with practical takeaways: what late-night eating does to your sleep cycle, how overheated oils blunt alertness, and why moderation should follow your personal history, not trends. We also unpack food memories that shape lifelong aversions and show how knowledge, gradual exposure, and reframing can rebuild trust with foods that serve you. From pepper myths and family patterns to micro-gardens in sacks and weekday water therapy, this is a toolkit for real life in a fast city.Walk away with a kinder way to feed yourself: be present when you buy, intentional when you cook, and curious when your body speaks. Put Down The Scorecards

Send us Fan MailHealing can turn into a stage play before we even notice. We share, we overexplain, we chase validation—then wonder why peace still feels far away. This episode leans hard into a countercultural truth: your healing doesn’t need an audience. We unpack how to protect a quiet process in a loud world, where trends dictate timing and vulnerability becomes content. Instead of performing your pain, we explore how to curate safety, move at the pace of honesty, and let growth be measured by alignment rather than applause. We dig into the lifelong dance between belonging and fitting in, especially as parents raising teens who want both authenticity and acceptance. That leads us into reparenting and “ancestral audits”—taking stock of origin stories on both sides of the family and finding grace for imperfect caregivers while choosing new patterns. Along the way, we demystify mental health by grounding it in daily alignment: thoughts, emotions, and behavior moving in the same direction. If they don’t, we pause and ask better questions instead of pushing harder on a public narrative. We also examine friendship through a sharper lens: who stands with you during storms, and who celebrates you in sunlight without calling it bragging? That difference matters. Faith and personal agency thread through the conversation as well. Spiritual leaders and practices can be anchors, but they should empower choice, not replace responsibility. Then we name a subtle trap: the comfort of pain. Familiar hurt can feel safe, almost like a warm blanket. We talk about how to honor the lesson without living under it, using small, steady steps that keep you protected and moving. To close, we offer six journal prompts designed to shift healing from performance to practice—questions about safety, pressure, belonging, inherited patterns, and turning pain into a doorway. Take one a day, be kind to what rises, and let awareness do quiet work. If you want company without noise, join our WhatsApp reflection space for listening and shared humanity. What Happens When Love Isn’t Enough?

Send us Fan MailWhat if love is present but you still can’t exhale? We dig into the lived difference between being loved and being held, and why emotional safety—how we are seen, corrected, and accompanied—can change the entire texture of life. Emotions become signals instead of enemies, discomfort turns into data, and language gives shape to experiences we’ve carried wordlessly for years. With candid stories about grief, shutdown, and the pressure to perform care, we trace how inherited limitations shape our patterns and how compassion can coexist with accountability. We talk about moving from “doing connection” to “being present,” resisting the urge to fix, and building a wider window for another person’s pain. Along the way, we explore how precise naming—pissed, upset, angry—alters state, why bilingual cultural contexts make nuance harder, and how simple nervous system practices help the body feel safe enough to soften. You’ll hear practical ways to spot self-abandonment hiding under helpfulness, reframe discipline into corrective guidance, and stay with someone’s discomfort without making it about your own anxiety. Most of all, we return to anchoring questions: Am I me? Where do I feel safest exhaling? If those questions land, this conversation offers tools, language, and gentle structure to start living into your answers. If the episode resonates, follow the show, share it with someone who needs these words, and leave a review with the phrase you’re taking forward. If Care Feels Like Distance, What Is Love For

Send us Fan MailWhat if being loved still leaves you lonely? We sit down with Ola—now an author—to trace the subtle gap between affection and attunement, and why safety is the missing ingredient in so many families and partnerships. Through personal stories, cultural context, and clear language, we unpack how tone, co‑regulation, and early repair teach a nervous system what intimacy feels like, for better or worse. We start with the book’s bold thesis: love without safety can feel like abandonment. From childhood corrections delivered through sharp looks to third‑party scoldings, we explore how kids learn to shrink curiosity to avoid conflict. That early pattern becomes adult performance—fixing, achieving, and overextending to earn closeness—while the body quietly stores the small absences: the reach that met no meeting, the apology demanded without understanding. We name recognition grief, the ache that rises not from death but from realizing something vital was missing all along, and we talk honestly about living fully while healing rather than waiting to be “done.”Together we navigate boundaries that protect softness, not punish others. We contrast gratitude with true receiving, question multitasked intimacy, and acknowledge culture’s role—silence, obedience, and passive aggression disguised as respect. Ola brings the vocabulary of attachment and the warmth of lived experience, translating academic ideas into everyday choices: how to ask for what we need, how to refuse being dragged back into chaos, and how to stop passing on the patterns that shaped us. We close with three gentle questions to carry into your week and an open door to a reflective, non‑fixing community space. If this conversation resonates, follow the show, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review so others can find these stories. Breath Before The Next Hundred

Send us Fan MailEver feel like the world demands a performance while your soul asks for quiet? We mark our 100th with a breath, not a bow, and step into a tender exploration of healing that doesn’t need applause. I share how delays, detours, and stillness reshaped my understanding of growth, and why choosing yourself is less about retreat and more about showing up without disappearing. We unpack societal narcissism—the cultural habit of turning authenticity into legislation over others—and how a smaller, hyperconnected world can still miss the shape of each person’s lived reality. Difference becomes richness when we stop mistaking critique for attack and discomfort for violence. From there, I lean into what pain taught me: how domestication and over-identifying with roles pull us away from the child within who felt freely and forgave easily. The work isn’t rejecting norms outright; it’s discerning which ones help us belong without erasing ourselves. Then we slow down together. I guide a brief breath practice to shift from fixing to thanking the body. We talk about integration—when rest no longer feels like guilt, when boundaries land as care rather than punishment, and when growth can be quiet. I share core reframes: healing is staying, silence can be information, rest is wisdom, and faith often looks like trust more than certainty. Walk Beside Me, Not Inside Me.

Send us Fan MailWhat if our well-meaning care has been crossing a line we rarely name? We pull apart the quiet ways empathy can turn into supervision and how “emotional colonization” shows up in families, faith communities, and friendships. Instead of offering easy answers, we sit with better questions and a more humane posture that honors agency, consent, and pace.We start by tracing the cultural current the host calls societal narcissism—how proximity tricks us into thinking we have jurisdiction over someone else’s inner world. From there, we redefine empathy beyond the slogan of “walking in someone’s shoes,” adding the humility to be guided by the person wearing them. You’ll hear how surveillance masquerades as concern, why watched people perform rather than heal, and how boundaries can serve love rather than distance. Drawing on Brené Brown’s strong back, soft front, grounded heart, we show what collapses when empathy becomes control: overhelping, rigidity, and anxiety-driven fixing. We also bring in Adam Grant’s framework of preacher, prosecutor, and politician to reveal the roles we slip into when our beliefs feel threatened. The antidote is a scientific posture—curiosity over certainty—that slows us down and replaces verdicts with listening. Along the way, we offer reflective prompts to help you notice where you might be supervising rather than accompanying, and how to restore presence without possession. If you’ve ever felt “helped” but not held, or noticed your own impulse to manage someone’s healing, this conversation will give you language and practices to recalibrate with care.Join us, take a breath, and let these questions work on you at their own pace. Your Mindfulness Doesn’t Need An Audience.

Send us Fan MailWhat if the body’s silence is the most honest feedback you’ll hear all week? We sit with the rising noise of advice, certainty, and wellness performance and ask why so much “help” leaves us more tired, more watched, and less connected to ourselves. Drawing on the myth of Narcissus as a cultural mirror, we reframe the caution: the real danger isn’t self-awareness, it’s self-absorption without reciprocity—especially when healing becomes a stage and empathy becomes supervision.Across this conversation, we name societal narcissism as a collective posture that quietly centers the self in spaces built for care. We trace how hustle culture meets toxic positivity, how algorithms reward spectacle, and how even mindfulness can turn performative when progress demands proof. From forced stillness to small practices of noticing, we share why the body’s interruption isn’t drama but devotion, and how language without wisdom can still wound. You’ll hear reflective prompts on consent, authority, and the difference between responding and reacting, plus a simple pause you can try right now to return to presence. We’re not asking you to speak less; we’re inviting you to listen better—first to your own body, then to others with cleaner attention. If you’ve felt pressured to display your growth or measure your worth by how publicly you heal, this is a gentle reset. What If Meaning Lives In How We Respond

Send us Fan MailThe season opens with a breath you can feel. After months of enforced stillness—pain, surgery, and a body that said “enough”—we step back to examine what mindful living actually asks of us when the lights are off and the milestones stop counting. I share how grief cracked my certainties, how recovery humbled my pace, and why I’m rethinking the language we use around healing so it guides rather than governs. We unpack the subtle shift from healing to performing: when vulnerability becomes strategy, stillness turns into content, and mindfulness reads like a brand. I call this drift societal narcissism—not a diagnosis, but a posture where visibility outruns integrity. Drawing on Viktor Frankl’s insight that meaning shows up in our response when we cannot change our situation, I talk through the difference between reacting and recognizing, and how response becomes a practice that lives in the body, not just the brain. The conversation moves from doing to being, from milestones to presence, from proof to patience. You’ll hear the questions animating where we go next: What happens to healing in a world that demands evidence? When does empathy become supervision? How can language remain a compass and not a courtroom? Along the way, we ground in a simple breath sequence to return to the body, and I offer a quiet prompt to carry through your week. Beyond the Silence of Shame

Send us Fan MailWhat if the most powerful force holding you back isn't external criticism but the silent voice within that whispers "I'm not enough"? In this vulnerable and illuminating conversation, we unpack the complex emotion of shame—that intensely painful feeling of believing we're fundamentally flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging.Drawing inspiration from Brené Brown's groundbreaking work, we explore the crucial distinction between guilt ("I did something bad") and shame ("I am bad"), revealing how this subtle shift profoundly impacts our identity and relationships. Through personal stories, we examine how childhood experiences with authority figures, cultural expectations, and religious contexts create shame templates that follow us into adulthood. You'll hear raw accounts of how seemingly small interactions—like being repeatedly corrected by someone other than a parent, or seeing "intelligent but talks too much" on a report card—can create lasting patterns of self-doubt and silence. The conversation takes a fascinating turn as we discuss how shame manifests in our self-perception around abilities, particularly in areas like business acumen, where perceived deficiencies easily transform from "I'm not good at this specific skill" to "I'm fundamentally inadequate." We uncover how shame thrives in secrecy and silence, and why finding safe relationships where we can share vulnerably becomes essential for healing.Whether you've consciously struggled with shame or are just beginning to recognize its influence in your life, you'll leave with practical wisdom for moving forward: affirming that shame is human but not where we want to live, naming it rather than being defined by it, and approaching ourselves with the same compassion we'd offer a friend. Adversity Is A Teacher

Send us Fan MailAdversity doesn't detour our journey—it defines it. This reflective episode explores how life's toughest moments can become our greatest teachers, using Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist" as a guiding metaphor for personal transformation.Like Santiago the shepherd boy who discovers his treasure wasn't gold but clarity, we too find our most profound growth not on the mountaintops of success but in the valleys of challenge. The treasure isn't reaching the destination—it's who we become along the way.Today's mental health conversations sometimes inadvertently promote avoiding discomfort rather than developing resilience. The phrase "I need to protect my mental health" has become almost facetious, potentially deepening stigma around legitimate struggles. True mental fortitude comes from understanding life's inherent duality—night and day, joy and pain. As Brené Brown wisely notes, "You cannot numb the dark without numbing the light," while Susan Cain reminds us that "if we could honor pain and not try to erase it, we could transform it."When facing difficulty, try shifting from asking "why me?" to "what has this come to teach me?" This subtle reframing transforms our relationship with adversity. While sharing my personal experience navigating bipolar disorder, I've learned that mindfully pacing yourself through challenges isn't weakness—it's wisdom. Tough times don't just reveal who you are; they refine who you are becoming. What valley are you currently navigating? What lessons might it be offering? Remember that finding your rhythm in difficult seasons is where true growth happens. The Quiet Art of Grieving

Send us Fan MailGrief reaches far beyond death, weaving through our lives in ways we rarely recognise or honour. What do you think about the dream job that never materialised? The friendship that dissolved? The promotion you deserved but didn't receive? These everyday disappointments create quiet ripples of grief we're not taught to process. Many of us excel at navigating joy but falter when facing sorrow. Our cultural narratives often discourage preparing for pain, viewing such preparation as inviting suffering. We're conditioned to "move on quickly" or "stay positive," denying ourselves the healing that comes from acknowledging our pain.Drawing from Yoruba wisdom that embraces life's dualities—"tibi tiri la daye" (we were created with both good and bad)—this episode invites you to sit with grief as a teacher rather than an enemy. Like the bitter leaf that eventually yields sweetness, discomfort can lead to growth when mindfully embraced. Too much grief without processing leads to depression, while avoiding grief altogether creates unresolved pain that silently shapes our relationships and responses.Through personal stories of professional disappointment and cultural perspectives on embracing life's polarities, this contemplative journey offers three journaling prompts to help you identify and honour those "small losses" you haven't permitted yourself to grieve. What might your grief say if you allowed it to speak? What version of yourself are you holding onto out of fear?Take a breath, find a quiet corner, and allow your grief to guide you—just for today. Your healing journey begins with acknowledging what hurts, even when society tells you it shouldn't.Suggested episode: https://pod.fo/e/2b1ac7 (a princess's journey through loss and legacy)https://pod.fo/e/1f89b0 (Grieving is living ) Support the showFollow me Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/tunmise.kukuInstagram : https://www.instagram.com/tunmiseokuku/  https://www.instagram.com/bhmcoaching/LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/tunmise-oladapo-kuku-8a2626b/Get Living Mindfully: A Journey to Being  https://blackhemages.com/living-mindfully/https://chat.whatsapp.com/BFAJsSrOui17Po8tvmMoPeWebsite: https://blackhemages.com/b45eeaafa11188b421daa26f6eb85da5596dbf11Love Yourself; Love Your Neighbour; Love Your Country: Above all of these Love God He's the essence of Your Being.#tdk

Sacred Pauses: Evolving in the Waiting

Send us Fan MailWhat if the stillness you're experiencing isn't stagnation, but sacred waiting? What if evolution—personal, spiritual, emotional—requires periods of apparent inactivity before breakthrough?Through ancient Nigerian folklore and the metaphor of a butterfly's metamorphosis, this reflective episode explores how we navigate the mystery of our own becoming. Drawing parallels between the impatient monkey who emerged from hibernation too early and our modern tendency to rush transformation, we uncover why patience is not merely a virtue but a necessity for deep change. Most of us have complex relationships with change. We crave evolution but fear the in-between spaces—those uncomfortable periods of uncertainty where the old has been left behind but the new hasn't yet emerged. These transitions create flutters in our stomachs and palpitations in our chests as we wonder: Will I fail? Will people think me foolish for leaving the familiar? Yet it's precisely these uncomfortable spaces where true growth happens. The rat race—both emotional and economic—has us living life in fast-forward mode, constantly searching for purpose and meaning while forgetting to be present in the moment. Victor Frankl's logotherapy suggests humans are motivated by the search for life's purpose, even amid suffering. But what if we could pursue meaning without allowing the search to consume us? What if we could honor both the becoming and the being?Stop, breathe, notice, reflect, respond, resolve. Join me in exploring how mindfulness can transform our relationship with change, helping us recognize that nature never hurries but is always on time. Masculinity Unmasked: How Men Navigate Vulnerability & Self-Worth

Send us Fan MailWhat does it really mean to "show up" as a man in today's world? In this vulnerable, unfiltered conversation for Men's Mental Health Month, four men break down the walls of traditional masculinity to explore what happens when societal expectations clash with personal boundaries. The dialogue begins with a seemingly simple question about showing up to commitments, but quickly evolves into a profound exploration of how men navigate the complex territory between obligation and self-preservation. "I don't do above and beyond any longer," one participant reveals, describing his shift from constant people-pleasing to measured engagement. As the conversation deepens, the men share their personal journeys toward establishing what one calls an "impact level ratio" – weighing the cost of their emotional labor against the potential benefits. They discuss the painful process of recognizing toxic relationships, sometimes decades after hurtful words were spoken, and the challenge of setting boundaries with people who've come to expect constant availability.Particularly moving is their collective realization that many men are carrying unspoken regrets about times they prioritized others' needs over their own wellbeing. "I didn't need to try so hard at life," one reflects, thinking back on years spent trying to meet expectations that nobody had actually verbalized.Whether you're struggling with people-pleasing tendencies, wondering how to set healthier boundaries, or simply curious about how other men navigate the garden of their inner lives, this episode offers raw insights and practical wisdom. By the conversation's end, each participant shares what they're intentionally cultivating in their lives and what patterns they're working to uproot.Listen now to this powerful exploration of masculine vulnerability, and consider what you might need to plant—or uproot—in your own life. Finding Peace in Imperfect Consistency

Send us Fan MailHave you checked in with yourself lately? That simple question opens the door to one of the most profound realisations about consistency and mental well-being. When my mind and body seemed locked in a silent war, I found myself at a crossroads—unable to deliver on my commitment to Men's Mental Health Month content despite its deep importance to me.Through this struggle came an unexpected whisper of wisdom: "Consistency is fluid." Like the viscosity of a substance holding together through internal friction, true consistency isn't about rigid perfection but about honouring your values regardless of your energy level. Some days you operate at 100%, other days at 50%, and sometimes at merely 10%. The revelation transformed my understanding of showing up for myself and others. This episode delves into the liberation that comes when we redefine consistency as a fluid concept rather than an unforgiving standard of perfection. It offers permission to embrace your current capacity—whether that's 100% or just 10%—and recognise that progress happens through persistent showing up, not through perfection. For men, especially, who often face expectations of unwavering strength, this perspective creates space for authentic engagement with mental health. As we continue highlighting men's mental well-being this June, I'm excited to announce our upcoming Fight for Life 2.0 event on November 29th to conclude this year's Movember movement. This men's conference will emphasise play, psychological safety, and practical tools for well-being. Whether you're struggling with your own consistency or supporting someone who is, remember: your best effort today is valid, even if it differs from yesterday's best. How will you show up for yourself and define your consistency in the face of life's inevitable curveballs?Episode recommendations: https://pod.fo/e/2deaf1 with Dare Dairo , https://pod.fo/e/2e2c16 with Dr Kenneth Uwajeh Support the showFollow me Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/tunmise.kukuInstagram : https://www.instagram.com/tunmiseokuku/  https://www.instagram.com/bhmcoaching/LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/tunmise-oladapo-kuku-8a2626b/Get Living Mindfully: A Journey to Being  https://blackhemages.com/living-mindfully/https://chat.whatsapp.com/BFAJsSrOui17Po8tvmMoPeWebsite: https://blackhemages.com/b45eeaafa11188b421daa26f6eb85da5596dbf11Love Yourself; Love Your Neighbour; Love Your Country: Above all of these Love God He's the essence of Your Being.#tdk

From Ill Health to Abundance: Reframing Mental Wellness

Send us Fan MailWhat if the power to support mental health wasn't limited to those with white coats and advanced degrees? What if the most powerful mental health tool was something we all possess naturally—our ability to be genuinely present with another human being?Dr. Kenneth Uwajeh returns to #mindfullywithtunmise with a revolutionary perspective that reimagines mental health as existing on a spectrum from "mental poverty" to "mental abundance." This profound shift moves us beyond viewing mental health through the lens of illness and instead recognises it as a fluid state we all navigate throughout our lives. The conversation reveals a startling truth backed by research: 86% of healing depends not on clinical technique but on human connection. This finding underpins The Healthy Mind Foundation's groundbreaking initiative to democratise mental health knowledge, equipping everyday people—from religious leaders to teachers to concerned friends—with the skills to recognise challenges, provide initial support, and know when professional help is needed.Dr. Kenneth shares how this approach was born from seeing the gaps in traditional mental health systems, particularly in communities where stigma prevents people from seeking professional help. By training key opinion leaders who already have established trust, the initiative creates accessible pathways to mental health support that bypass traditional barriers. The course cleverly adapts global standards from the World Health Organisation while contextualising them for Nigerian and African cultural realities.Perhaps most compelling is the challenge to the "saviour complex" that often accompanies mental health work. By spreading knowledge widely, the initiative removes the mystique around mental wellness and empowers communities toward collective healing. As Dr. Kenneth emphasises, often the most powerful thing we can offer someone in distress isn't expertise or answers—it's our complete presence, our active listening, and our willingness to simply be there.Ready to become part of this mental health revolution? The Dance of Dual Vulnerability: Loving Through Limitations

Send us Fan MailWhat does it look like to love someone through mental health challenges while navigating your own vulnerabilities? Dare Dairo, an advocate and polio survivor, opens his heart to share the beautiful complexity of his marriage to a woman thriving with bipolar disorder.Growing up shielded from stigma, Dare's childhood was marked not by limitation but by inclusion—jumping fences with friends and competing over who read more James Hadley Chase novels. This foundation shaped his approach to disability advocacy and ultimately, his understanding of love. When he met his future wife, he boldly declared she looked like someone who would be the mother of his children. Neither knew then how their relationship would become a masterclass in emotional fluency and mutual support. The conversation travels through their journey of discovery when his wife experienced her first bipolar episode after a neighbourhood dispute. Rather than retreating, he leaned into understanding—learning trigger points, maintaining consistent communication despite living separately, and rejecting the harmful notion that love blessed by God should be free from challenges. "Perfection is not part of the mix in love," he shares, likening their relationship to different combustion rates: "I burn like diesel, she burns like petrol."This episode offers profound insights for anyone in a relationship touched by mental health challenges: the importance of support networks, balancing spirituality with medical intervention, and finding strength in shared vulnerability. As tunmise beautifully reflects, "What if the most generous thing you could ever do is let someone see your scars and still stay open?"Whether you're supporting a loved one or seeking understanding for your own journey, this conversation reminds us that thriving isn't about being flawless—it's about choosing each other, imperfections and all, every single day. When Personal Pain Transforms into Public Purpose

Send us Fan MailA powerful journey comes full circle in this deeply moving conversation with Folusho Oginni Liasu, founder of Super Parents Foundation. What began as a chance encounter with a mother's anonymous post about struggling to afford a hearing aid for her child transformed into a mission that has touched countless lives across Nigeria.Folusho takes us behind the curtain of special needs parenting in Africa, where cultural misconceptions and spiritual superstitions often compound the challenges families already face. With remarkable candour, she shares how Super Parents Foundation emerged in 2018 as a safe space where parents could share their experiences without judgment – a community where denial could transform into acceptance, and guilt could give way to empowerment."Accept your new normal," Folusho advises parents with quiet conviction. This simple yet profound counsel acknowledges the reality that while this journey wasn't chosen, embracing it fully opens doors to healing. Throughout our conversation, she emphasised that effective support isn't always about extraordinary resources, but rather remarkable love. "The first therapy is love," she reminds us, a truth that resonates whether parenting typical children or those with special needs. The foundation's work stretches beyond emotional support to challenge harmful narratives about disability. By providing factual information about various conditions while respecting cultural contexts, Super Parents helps shift conversations from blame to understanding, from shame to action. Folusho's approach combines her legal background with profound empathy, creating advocacy that addresses both practical needs and emotional well-being.Listen as we explore the delicate balance between passionate advocacy and personal wellness, and discover how mindfulness plays a crucial role in sustainable impact work. Whether you're parenting a child with special needs or simply seeking to understand how personal pain can transform into purpose, this conversation offers wisdom, warmth, and a powerful reminder that sometimes our greatest challenges reveal our deepest calling. You can find Super Parent here, Barr Mofoluwasho Liasu's Social Media Profile;Facebook Name: Folusho Oginni LiasuFacebook link: https://www.facebook.com/folusho.liasuInstagram Name: Mofoluwasho Liasu Instagram Link: instagram.com/mofoluwasholiasu/LinkedIn Name: Mofoluwasho Liasu LinkedIn link: https://linkedin.com/in/mofoluwasho-liasu-b5a43b116You can also find Super Parents Foundation on other social media pages:http://www.superparentsfoundation.org or www.superparents.ngIG: Super Parents Foundation instagram.com/superparentsfoundation/?hl=enFacebook Group: Super Parentshttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1781326792169087/Facebook page: Super Parents Support Foundationhttps://www.facebook.com/Super-Parents-Support-Foundation-340895706757392/YouTube: Super Parents Foundation https://bit.ly/2Jz9mCThttps://www.linkedin.com/company/super-parents-foundation/ Support the showFollow me Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/tunmise.kukuInstagram : https://www.instagram.com/tunmiseokuku/  https://www.instagram.com/bhmcoaching/LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/tunmise-oladapo-kuku-8a2626b/Get Living Mindfully: A Journey to Being  https://blackhemages.com/living-mindfully/https://chat.whatsapp.com/BFAJsSrOui17Po8tvmMoPeWebsite: https://blackhemages.com/b45eeaafa11188b421daa26f6eb85da5596dbf11Love Yourself; Love Your Neighbour; Love Your Country: Above all of these Love God He's the essence of Your Being.#tdk

Love Unspoken: Honoring Relationships Before It's Too Late

Send us Fan MailHave you ever wondered why we often save our deepest expressions of love until after someone is gone? In this tender reflection, I explore the bittersweet human tendency to eulogize in death more than we celebrate in life.We journey through three relationship patterns that shape our emotional landscape—the unreciprocated friendship where we give more than we receive, the "almost tribe" connections that begin with perfect alignment only to reveal fundamental differences, and those seasonal presences who enter our lives briefly but meaningfully. Each relationship type teaches us something profound about love, loss, and the psychology behind how we process both. When news of someone's transition reaches us, our brains engage in a fascinating protective mechanism—filtering memories to hold onto curves rather than sharp edges. This isn't denial; it's our mind seeking peace amid grief. As I share, "Grief isn't a receipt, it is not about proof, it's about impact." Your connection to someone doesn't require proximity to validate your mourning. The phrase "give me my flowers now" resonates throughout this episode as both plea and permission. Sometimes we're waiting for bouquets from people who don't even know we're hungry for one. And if recognition seems eternally forthcoming, perhaps the most radical act is buying your own flowers—seeing, celebrating, and validating yourself without external confirmation.Life is layered, people are complex, and presence itself is a gift. The flowers we give today may become the memories others hold tomorrow. I invite you to consider: Who are you not giving flowers to, and what's stopping you? Permission to Pause: Walking Through Pain, Not Around It

Send us Fan MailHave you ever had life tap you on the shoulder—or shake you by the shoulders? That jarring moment when your body stops cooperating, your mind goes quiet, and suddenly the world demands you pay attention? After running out of medications and experiencing mix-ups with my treatment plan, my typically stable blood pressure skyrocketed to dangerous heights. For someone living with bipolar affective disorder who advocates mental health awareness through this podcast, the irony wasn't lost on me—I had stopped practising what I preached. My body staged a rebellion, and perhaps more terrifying, my words disappeared. The woman who processes life through language could no longer articulate her thoughts. This episode is a raw, honest account of what happened during my three-week hiatus. It's about the humbling journey of turning inward, confronting the shame of needing medication again, and reconnecting with my five-year-old self,  the child in the blue dress riding a three-wheel bicycle with a wild smile. Through this unexpected pause, I discovered profound lessons: that knowing your baseline vitals (both physical and mental) can save your life, that following what Paulo Coelho calls "the omens" leads to better choices, and most importantly, that "you will not find your way by escaping the pain. You will find your way only by walking through it mindfully."I'm returning to you changed—a little softer, a little slower, but infinitely more certain that there is wisdom, not weakness, in stepping back. As we begin Season 6 of Mindfully with Tunmise, I invite you to join me in exploring mental health with renewed curiosity and compassion. Perhaps my story can permit you to pause when your body and soul demand attention. After all, "My body remembers, my soul remembers, and healing begins when I listen." The Garden Within : Six Friends Get Real About Life.

Send us Fan MailWhat does it truly mean to be a woman, free from society's pressures and expectations? How do we nurture our authentic selves while navigating the multiple roles we play?Six close friends gathered for an intimate conversation to celebrate International Women's Month in this special episode titled "Cultivating the Garden Within." Their candid discussion reveals both common threads and unique perspectives on female identity and personal growth. The conversation begins with reflections on womanhood itself – the wonder-woman capabilities women possess, but also how the pressure to "do it all" can become a burden leading to various forms of self-abuse. One participant bravely shares her journey with cesarean births, highlighting how women often internalize shame around perfectly valid experiences due to societal expectations. As they explore what it means to cultivate their inner gardens, each woman reveals what habits they're currently nurturing. From learning to let go of grudges and combating perfectionism to the simple yet profound challenge of seeing oneself as a person beyond roles like mother or wife – their revelations are both deeply personal and universally relatable.Perhaps most touching are their reflections on authenticity. While some point to motherhood as their defining moment of self-realization, others admit they're only now beginning to feel truly themselves. One friend shares she can't recall ever feeling authentic due to being raised to conceal her thoughts – a powerful testament to how cultural conditioning can disconnect us from our true selves.Listen in on this warm, vulnerable conversation among friends that might just inspire you to examine what you're cultivating in your own garden. The Myth of Personal Space: Finding Connection Through Distance

Send us Fan MailHave you ever noticed how differently we react when we need personal space versus when someone asks it of us? That fascinating paradox sits at the heart of this deeply reflective episode.Personal space exists in a curious tension—we crave it for ourselves yet often interpret it as rejection when others seek it. Through vulnerable storytelling about a friendship that taught me profound lessons about boundaries, I explore how space functions across different relationship landscapes. Whether it's the best friend who disappeared after having a baby, the romantic partner who needs solitude without withdrawal, or the family dynamics where growth feels like a betrayal, the same pattern emerges: our struggle to understand that space isn't abandonment but an invitation to return as our authentic selves. For those navigating African family contexts, this tension takes on additional layers where personal boundaries intersect with expectations of loyalty. When stepping back might be seen as disowning and asking questions interpreted as disrespect, how do we honour both our truth and family connections? The answer lies partly in reframing how we understand space itself—not as rejection but as a necessary rhythm in the music of healthy relationships.Throughout this episode, I offer reflective questions to help you examine your own relationship with personal space. When do you need it? Can you take it without guilt? And perhaps most importantly, can you extend that same grace when others need it from you? Because ultimately, the myth isn't that we need personal space—it's how we misinterpret what space means. What does personal space mean in your life? Please share your thoughts with me on social media or through the link in the show description.
