Why Hard Seasons Build Stronger Faith: The Purpose of Resistance

3 secrets to a yell-free morning Coffee Chat LIVE📅 June 26th⏰ 11:00 AM CST💻 Live Online Save Your Spot 🌿Spots are free, but registration is required.[ Reserve Your Spot ]Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin.Have you ever wished life could be easier? Have you ever wondered why God allows hard seasons, challenges, and setbacks when all you want is peace? In this episode of the Planted On Purpose Podcast, Aurie Riley shares a fascinating story from a NASA Mars simulation experiment that revealed an unexpected truth about growth. Scientists successfully grew trees inside a controlled environment, but when the trees reached a certain height, they began falling over. The reason? They had never experienced wind.Without resistance, the trees failed to develop the deep roots and strong trunks needed to support long-term growth. The lesson is one every overwhelmed Christian mom needs to hear: the struggles you're facing today may be strengthening you for what lies ahead.Just as wind causes trees to grow stronger root systems, life's challenges often develop the perseverance, character, and resilience we need to weather future storms. While we naturally want to avoid discomfort, hardship often becomes the very thing God uses to deepen our faith, strengthen our character, and anchor us more firmly in Him.Aurie shares personal reflections on navigating difficult seasons, the temptation to avoid pain through distractions, and why true growth requires embracing discomfort rather than running from it. Through practical encouragement and biblical wisdom, you'll discover how God can use resistance to build spiritual strength and emotional resilience.Drawing from Romans 5:3-4, this episode explores how suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. If you're walking through a challenging season of motherhood, burnout recovery, personal growth, or spiritual development, this conversation will remind you that your struggle is not wasted. You may feel like you're being stretched, bent, or challenged right now, but God may be using this season to grow roots that will sustain you for years to come.In this episode, you'll discover why resistance is necessary for growth, how hardship develops emotional and spiritual resilience, what NASA's fallen trees can teach us about strength, how God uses difficult seasons to deepen our roots, and why perseverance creates lasting hope.Morning Rhythm ResetIf you're tired of starting over every Monday and constantly trying to overhaul your entire life, the Morning Rhythm Reset will help you create one simple change that builds lasting energy, patience, and peace.Learn more: Visit the resources section at Sonshine PaperieIf today's episode encouraged you, be sure to:✔ Leave a review to help other overwhelmed moms find the show✔ Share this episode with a friend who needs encouragementVisit Sonshine Paperie for coaching resources, journals, blog articles designed to help Christian moms move from survival mode to intentional living.Until next time, stay planted in purpose and walk in the Son.

The Invisible Struggle of Hidden Growth: Why Consistency Feels Boring (But Changes Everything)

3 secrets to a yell-free morning Coffee Chat LIVE📅 June 26th⏰ 11:00 AM CST💻 Live Online Save Your Spot 🌿Spots are free, but registration is required.[ Reserve Your Spot ]Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin.Have you ever felt like you're doing all the right things but not seeing any results? In this episode of Planted On Purpose, Aurie shares a powerful lesson from an unlikely teacher: the mesquite tree. While traveling through the deserts of West Texas and New Mexico, she discovered how mesquite trees spend years growing deep roots before showing much growth above the surface. The same is often true in our lives. If you've been frustrated by slow progress, tempted to chase the latest productivity hack, or discouraged because your growth isn't visible yet, this conversation will remind you that God is often doing His most important work underground. We'll explore why consistency feels boring, how deep transformation happens beneath the surface, and what it means to send your roots toward the Living Water instead of constantly chasing surface-level change. Why real transformation starts beneath the surfaceThe surprising lesson mesquite trees teach about growthHow consistency rewires your mind and nervous systemWhy habit change takes longer than most people thinkThe difference between changing actions and changing beliefsHow boredom can sabotage your growth right before breakthroughWhat Jeremiah 17:8 teaches us about resilience and fruitfulnessHow to prioritize spiritual roots before visible results"They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:8"Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst." John 4:14The mesquite tree prioritizes survival before appearance. It spends years developing deep roots in search of water before investing energy into visible growth. As moms, we often do the opposite. We focus on changing routines, schedules, and productivity systems while ignoring the beliefs and thought patterns driving our behavior. Many of us quit because growth feels slow and repetitive. We mistake boredom for lack of progress. In reality, consistency is often evidence that roots are forming. The daily practices that seem insignificant today are creating stability, resilience, and strength that will support future growth.Just as a tree must find water before it can flourish, we must stay connected to Christ before we can thrive. When Bible reading, prayer, and spiritual connection become our first priority, everything else grows from a healthier foundation. One of the biggest obstacles to transformation isn't failure—it's boredom. Our brains crave novelty, causing us to abandon healthy habits just before they begin producing meaningful results.Don't confuse a lack of excitement with a lack of progress.Where is God quietly growing roots in your life right now?Are you focused more on visible results or deep transformation? What habits are helping you stay connected to the Living Water? What area of your life feels boring but may actually be producing growth? How can you choose consistency over constant reinvention this week?Morning Rhythm ResetIf you're tired of starting over every Monday and constantly trying to overhaul your entire life, the Morning Rhythm Reset will help you create one simple change that builds lasting energy, patience, and peace.Learn more: Visit the resources section at Sonshine PaperieIf today's episode encouraged you, be sure to:✔ Leave a review to help other overwhelmed moms find the show✔ Share this episode with a friend who needs encouragementVisit Sonshine Paperie for coaching resources, journals, blog articles designed to help Christian moms move from survival mode to intentional living.

From Burned Out & Giving Up to Blooming: The Day-to-Day Survival That Almost Became Her Life

If you’ve ever felt so emotionally exhausted that simply keeping everyone alive felt like success… this conversation will hit home.In this powerful client testimony, Megan shares her journey from survival mode to intentional living. Before beginning coaching, she felt completely checked out from her life and family. Her days were spent sleeping while the kids were at school, lying awake all night with racing thoughts she couldn’t turn off, and barely making it through the day emotionally and mentally.Screens and TV had become the default rhythm of parenting. Her household felt disconnected, chaotic, and emotionally drained. Her husband had withdrawn and was avoiding the tension at home, while Megan struggled with burnout, overwhelm, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from herself, her family, and her purpose. But transformation was possible. In this episode, Megan vulnerably shares how learning to slow down, ground herself, renew her mindset, and create intentional rhythms completely changed the atmosphere of her home and her life.Today, Megan is sleeping through the night, waking up with purpose and intention, running her household with confidence, cooking meals, helping with homework, unpacking long-ignored boxes, and showing up present for her family. Her children are calmer, fighting less, and engaging more without screens. Her husband has re-engaged with both Megan and the kids, and family connection has become part of their daily rhythm again. She even started a part-time job and says she feels happier, more resilient, and more emotionally grounded than she has in years. If you’re a woman struggling with burnout, survival mode, mental overload, emotional exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from your life, this episode is a reminder that healing and transformation are possible.Topics covered in this episode:• Burnout recovery for women • Survival mode and emotional exhaustion • Christian mindset and intentional living • Family connection and screen-free rhythms • Healing anxiety and racing thoughts • Creating healthy daily routines • Marriage and family transformation • Grounding practices for overwhelmed moms • Moving from surviving to thriving • Finding purpose after burnout

As moms, it is so easy to buy all the packets at the store—downloading the routines, reading the parenting books, and pinning the ideas—while completely forgetting to dig into the dirt. In this episode of Planted on Purpose, coach Aurie Riley shares a supportive but direct truth check for overwhelmed, exhausted moms trapped in the cycle of "productive procrastination." We break down the crucial difference between passive and massive action, explore what Scripture says about our endless planning, and learn how to finally build the momentum needed for real, peaceful change. In This Episode, You’ll Learn:Passive vs. Massive Action: The difference between getting ready to act (researching, planning, watching video courses) and actually acting. The Procrastination Trap: Why consuming self-improvement information feels like work but leaves your daily reality completely unchanged. The Ripple Effect of Chaos: How a disorganized daily rhythm creates mental noise, irritability, and cracks in our spiritual lives.Scripture & Soul Care: A deep dive into James 4:17, Proverbs 16:9, and Proverbs 21:5 to find the biblical balance between holy planning and diligent execution.Setting Time Boundaries: How to use passive action as a brief tool to resource yourself without letting your growth potential wither inside the packet.Scripture Mentioned:James 4:17 – "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."Proverbs 16:9 – "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."Proverbs 21:5 – "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty."Matthew 5:13 – The warning of salt losing its taste (and seeds losing their viability).Ready to Take Your First Massive Action Step?If you are exhausted from self-improvement and tired of overhauling your entire life only to fall off the bandwagon, you do not need another massive to-do list. Are You Trying to Control Too Much? Why Waiting is a Perfectionism Thing.

We often wait for ideal timing before ever doing anything. Whether that's putting down roots, starting new grounding rhythms, working on our emotional regulation. We wait for when things just slow down or when things are just a little less crazy. I'll start this new thing. I'm Aurie Riley, an aerospace engineer who grew up into an artist mindset tool creator, a now burnout coach.  I help overwhelmed moms step out of survival mode and into a life that finally feels peaceful, grounded, and doable again. 3 secrets to a yell-free morning Coffee Chat LIVE📅 May 22nd⏰ 11:00 AM CST💻 Live Online Save Your Spot 🌿Spots are free, but registration is required.[ Reserve Your Spot ]Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin. I'll start this new growth. If you're tired of trying to overhaul your whole life, every time you fall off the bandwagon, the morning rhythm reset is your first step out of that cycle. With one simple change, you can have the energy and patience you want for your kids, your job, and your home without running on fumes before the day even begins. It's small, it's simple and it works. We think when things settle down or when the kids start back to school, we'll get on whatever it is that we are wanting to do to improve. Ladies, it's been seven years since I had my little girl and I'm still waiting for things to slow down. take the risk. Start taking action, real action, and then adjust as necessary along the way. If it's a crazy season and you start a new, I don't know, nutrition plan, and all of a sudden it has to go out the window because days are long, schedules are crazy, work is busy, and you end up having to order takeout or delivery for a few nights in a row, like, okay, maybe you got bit back a little bit.Readjust. But don't let it stop you from growing at all, and don't let it kill you down to the ground. The challenges and the storms of life, they never stop. They just iterate. They evolve. They change. But the way that I ride out the storms now, much different. I feel like I have a little bit of Johnny Depp's swagger because I'm not panicking like the disciples did when they got caught in the storm crossing the Sea of Galilee.I'm just riding it out, and I know that I'm gonna make it to the other side. And it might be by the skin of my teeth, but we're gonna make it. I'm still waiting for my body to bounce back. I'm still waiting for her to be old enough to be independently doing things. I'm still waiting for the day when she's in school. We're homeschooling, in case you didn't know. Um, but even when she was in school last year, the slowdown didn't come. There was more things. It's been seven years and what I've realized is, is that in the seven years that I've been waiting, life has handed me plot twist after plot twist.  That time is never coming. And I've been waiting for this slowdown, but here's the thing I haven't stopped moving. I've made the decision that while, yes, a slowdown, a perfect season, a lull, a rest period, something would be nice, I can't waste time waiting for it to show up.

Let's dig in. Welcome to the Planted On Purpose Podcast, a space for moms who are tired of waking up already exhausted and are ready to trade, hustle for holy. I'm Aurie Riley, an aerospace engineer who grew up into an artist mindset tool creator, a now burnout coach. I am a wife, a mom, and an avid gardener who believes God uses the slow, steady rhythms of nature to teach us how to live well.I help overwhelmed moms step out of survival mode and into a life that finally feels peaceful, grounded, and doable again. Today we're gonna talk about the invisible work that has to happen behind the scenes in the plant world. We talked about last week how the weather and the circumstances actually work on the seed to create just the right environment in order for it to crack open. The seed actually has to break before it can grow. its first work is to grow roots, so often in our lives when we are trying to break through and experience new growth, when we're trying to change and do better, the first thing we have to do is learn how to put down roots. And what that requires is massive action, and what that is is actions that you take that require you to move. These are movements that feel risky, scary, and often frustrating. They challenge you, stretch you, and are painfully uncomfortable, and they are often accompanied by no immediate gratification. The kicker is you can't see any of this happening under your feet. One day you've got an empty veg patch, and the next it's full of teeny little leaves, and we exclaim, "Oh, look what happened last night." It's so human nature to expect immediate results, or at least if we're being reasonable, okay, we expect a linear correlation to our efforts. If I put this effort in, I will get this direct result out in a linear fashion. But when we look around at the real world, we're going to find that it just doesn't work that way. There is no overnight success. The seed may lie dormant in the ground for years before the conditions are right for it to sprout. Here's the thing, it took months. It took months for that one little bulb to do all of that. We don't see any of that.you're thinking, yes, please, but just skip to the end because I just need to know what to do, and you're exhausted from self-improvement. This is for you. The morning rhythm reset is the perfect place for you to start. It's a small first step that helps you identify where your energy is leaking so that you can begin to fill yourself up for a grounded day. All right, let's keep digging. It's not in a straight line. It may be all sorts of crooked underneath there in order to just make it to the top.by the time the daffodil reaches the surface of the soil and we cheer for its success, what enables it to bloom finally after all that time is the tiny actions that it took consistently every minute of every day in order to push through and emerge.Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up." Are you going through something hard? Are your circumstances breaking you open and queuing you up to grow? Well, then I would ask you to reflect on this question. What tiny action can you start today that will move you towards your goal if you're consistent? Until next time, stay planted in purpose and walk in the sun.

Hey there Mama, My heart breaks when I hear stories, so similar to mine, where you feel so trapped by your situation. No one is helping you, the kids are crazy, the house is a mess, and you're barely holding it together at work. To say you're exhausted would be the understatement of the century. The only help you get are "helpful" comments and advice from family and friends without an ounce of action behind them. This is your tough love motivation speech from a big sis that cares about you deeply.Book a Call with MeApply for the Sonshine Academy and Get Unstuck!I've been there. There may be an escape hatch, but I'd have to get up and start moving in order to find it.You do too. You can choose to stay a victim to your circumstances forever, but if you do nothing to help yourself, I think it's unrealistic for you to expect God or anyone else for that matter to step up and do things for you. Digging Potatoes: Faith, Fog, and Finding. Reflecting on 2025 and Taking the Next Right Step into 2026

Download the 7-layer Why journaling space here:DM me here!If 2025 felt like it took everything out of you, this episode is for you.As we step into a new year, many of us are carrying a sense of fog—uncertain, tired, and unsure what we even want our goals to be. In this episode of Planted On Purpose, I invite you into the garden with me on January 1st as I reflect out loud, hands in the soil, turning over both compost and questions from the year behind us.Using the metaphor of digging up sweet potatoes, I explore what it looks like to search for buried treasure in a hard year—the lessons, the quiet growth, and the abundance that didn’t show up where we expected it to.Some things produced beautifully. Some things didn’t produce at all.And some things were still alive… just not ready yet.Together, we talk about:Why it’s okay if your goals for 2026 are centered on nurturing yourselfHow our brains fixate on what went wrong—and how to look instead for what workedWhat gardening teaches us about reflection, journaling, and “turning things over”The difference between a year of harvest and a year of soil-buildingWhy timelines are made up—and God’s timing is not (Psalm 69:13)How abundance often shows up somewhere other than where we plantedWhy composting hard things takes time—and that’s healthyThe helpers God sends along the way (even the unexpected ones 🪱)I also share honestly about my own year—what didn’t work in my art business, what did work in my engineering role, and why I made the intentional decision to plant new seeds through coaching, even without an immediate harvest. As the episode closes, I reflect on faith, fog, and forward movement—reminding us that we aren’t meant to see the whole path. We’re only asked to take the next right step.Grab your journal and sit with these two questions:What do I need to do in 2026 to make myself the healthiest I can be?What is the next right step from where I am right now?You don’t have to do everything. You don’t have to be clear yet.You just have to tend the soil.Happy New Year, friend. 💛If you want deeper support and real growth this year, I'd love to chat with you about what that looks like.Schedule a time here!

Biblical Words for Big Feelings: Psalm 34 and Helping Children Process Emotions

Do you ever struggle with finding the words to express what you're feeling deep within yourself? Imagine how that feels for your small child. It's no wonder the throw tantrums and cry and sob and have meltdowns. As parents its important to not only give them the words to express what they're feeling, but to give them GOD's words to express their emotions. Teaching our children isn't a Saturday night Bible class prep session. It's an all-day everyday kind of dedication to weaving God's wisdom into the mundane. Psalm 34 gives us some great ideas for naming feelings and hard situations so we can start to talk about seeking God as a refuge. If you are looking for custom tailored guidance on this for you and your family, reach out to me at www.sonshinepaperie.com/coaching-with-aurie I have just the thing to help you ease this into your day seamlessly.

For Moms Who Feel Like They're Sinking. A Psalm of Praise and Reflection

There are times when no one really understands what we're going through. And in those times of struggle and heartache, it can feel so very lonely. It can feel like you're sinking. Like you're stuck in quick sand, the mire, and can't pull yourself out. ... But God can. He did for David, and in Psalm 40 we find the words to express the feelings of groaning and sunken despair as well as hope and praise for the new song God puts in our mouth. We often think the praise will come when we've been delivered from the trial, hardship, loss, overwhelm, burnout, stress, illness, injury, persecution, relationship strain, the list goes on and on. But actually we can choose to find and sing our new song while in our pit of despair, our dark night of the soul. In fact, it is often those very moments which are the environment in which the new song is revealed. AND when we can start singing our new song from the bottom of our dark well, it will start to lift us up toward the light at the end of the tunnel. As we journey toward the light, more verses are added to our song of praise and we can "spread Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear." - Elf. When we do, we need to be prepared to receive loud criticism while those who need to hear the song God gave us are silently soaking it in. Psalm 40 also provides comfort for those moments of criticism. The psalms are so wonderful because they capture so much of the complexity of human life and emotion and by the Holy Spirit's wisdom, they offer the solutions to them. So grab your Bible and open to Psalm 40 as we read together and apply it to everyday living.

Lady friend, you may not be a rose- the popular girl in the garden- you may be a daisy- the sweet and subtle but always dependable bloomer. 1 Corinthians has a lot to say about this and that's what we're reading today. Go out and use your own unique gifting to serve others! The variety of flowers in a garden is what enriches its beauty and interest. It makes it sustainable and healthy. To The Hot-Mess Mom: When Your Life is a Compost Pile

Having a hard time falling asleep at night?Grab my free Nighttime Brain Reset Rhythm Herefollow me on Instagram - shoot me a DM, I'd LOVE to hear from you!Compost is made of all kinds of stuff: scraps, leftovers, even things that seem rotten. When all those things are just thrown together — no boundaries, no process — it stinks. Literally. It becomes a hot mess. And that might be what your life feels like right now: You’ve said yes to too many things. You’re running on empty. You’re not sure what’s still serving you and what needs to go. Everything is swirling together without intention, and you can’t breathe. But here’s the truth: Compost, when handled with care, becomes fertilizer. When you take the time to sort through it, eliminate what doesn’t belong, and layer it in the right order, something beautiful begins to happen. It heats up, breaks down, and transforms into rich soil — the very thing that helps new life grow. And that’s what my coaching does.

What Kind of Action Taker Are You?

A doer who acts. So, there is a doer who does not act? Yes. Because, there are 2 types of action you can take in your life: Passive and Massive. This verse talks about both types of action. Passive Action is addressed first, because passive action is necessary for the effectiveness of Massive action. Passive Action: What you do to prepare for the action Receiving the implanted word - an example of passive action is meditation. It prepares the mind to learn. To receive God’s instruction. That’s talked about in Psalm 19:14, 63:6, 77:6, Genesis 24:63, & Joshua 1:8 And that’s great! But is it enough? The implanted word is able to save our souls, but how? Well, He directly follows up with a BUT As a side note, BUT is an interesting word. As a conjunction it is “used to introduce a phrase or clause contrasting with what has already been mentioned.” And as a noun, “an argument against something; an objection." So if he is arguing against the ability of the implanted word to save our souls, then what will make that word ineffective? Being a hearer ONLY. If we ONLY take the passive action, we cannot be saved AND the danger is, it has the potential to be deceiving! Because passive action FEELS like we’re doing something. I’m reading my Bible! I’m listening to sermons!
