Reclaiming Bossy
by Maahika Singh
Originally called Empower Sounds, the podcast has evolved and turned into Reclaiming Bossy! I’ve been called “bossy” many times in my life, often in a negative way. But through conversations with leaders, founders, and creators, I realised that so many of us share this “bossy” spark. I love the idea of reclaiming this word that’s been used to put people down and turn it into something empowering. Reclaiming bossy is a space to celebrate ambition, leadership, creativity, and the bold voices making things happenNew episodes every monday <3

Before You Book Your Flight to Madrid, Listen to This Episode (The Ultimate Madrid Guide)
What if Emily in Paris was actually set in Madrid and was culturally accurate? In the first episode of the Reclaiming Bossy Madrid season, I sit down with Maddy, the creator behind Maddy in Madrid, to talk about what building a real life abroad actually looks like beyond the romanticised TikToks and Netflix versions. We talk about the reality of moving to Madrid, learning Spanish as an adult, making friends when you know nobody, navigating culture shock, understanding the unspoken social rules in Spain, and creating a life that feels exciting and authentic. This episode is part Madrid city guide, part deep dive into identity, reinvention, and what happens when you stop waiting for “someday” and actually move abroad. We also get into the cafés worth working from, the rooftop bars and picnic spots locals actually go to, how to find community in Madrid, and why embracing the culture instead of recreating your old life abroad changes everything. If you’ve been dreaming about moving abroad, taking a solo trip, becoming a digital nomad, or building a slower and more intentional life overseas, this episode will either make you book the flight or finally give you the honest guide to doing it properly.TIMESTAMPS00:00 - Introduction and moving to Madrid00:50 - Maddy’s background and learning Spanish01:54 - Embracing a new culture vs. Emily in Paris03:12 - Why English speakers struggle with learning languages05:16 - Advice on making friends in a new country07:12 - Biggest culture shocks in Spain08:27 - Best coffee shops for working, dates, and relaxing11:26 - Finding Madrid’s authentic hidden gems12:41 - Cultural norms and respecting the Spanish way of life15:21 - Representing Spain online and navigating expat stereotypes17:15 - Dealing with reverse culture shock and homesickness19:07 - Advice for taking the leap and moving abroad20:03 - What people get wrong about Spain and Americans21:16 - Best bars, rooftops, and picnic spots in Madrid23:58 - Communities to join to make friends26:15 - What’s next for Maddy26:51 - Reclaiming the word “bossy”Connect with MaddyWebsite: https://maddyinmadrid.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/maddyinmadrid_/Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@maddyinmadridConnect with the Pod / MePodcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations & enquiries:[email protected]

The Only Way You Will Ever Stop Caring What Others Think About You...
In this episode, we’re talking about how to actually stop caring what people think about you…I always hear people say they want to stop caring what others think. But I’ve started to realise that a more helpful way to think about it is this: stop seeking validation and permission.Wanting acceptance isn’t a bad thing. We are wired for connection and belonging. The problem is when other people’s opinions become the biggest stakeholder in your life and start shaping your decisions more than your own values and desires. In this episode, I share some of my own experiences with validation and permission across different areas of life, including health, relationships, and work. From struggling with body image and external validation growing up, to navigating dating and rejection, to building a career and learning to trust my own ideas instead of constantly asking for approval. We talk about why rejection is often about alignment rather than worth, how to self validate instead of constantly looking outward, and why living your life based on your own joy and values is the real goal.If you’ve ever felt stuck waiting for the right time, the right validation, or someone else’s permission to move forward, this episode is for you.Your homework this week is to ask yourself where in my life am I still seeking permission and asking for validation & how can I start to self permit and validate a bit more ?Timestamps 00:02:30 - asking for permission00:04:30 - permission in health and beauty00:11:30 - permission in relationships00:16:00 - validation00:18:00 - career00:22:00 - rewiring limiting beliefsConnect with Me / The PodcastPodcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations and [email protected]

Why Your Business Isn’t Making Money (And the Strategy That You Need Instead)
What does good strategy actually look like, and why do so many businesses get it wrong? In this episode, we’re talking about business strategy and why it is often the difference between growth and stagnation. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the idea of strategy, or wondered how founders and companies actually make clear decisions about where they are going, this conversation is for you.I’m joined by Sam Cooper Gray, the founder and Chief Owl of The Wisdom Studio, a strategy consultancy that helps scaling SMEs and global organisations design practical strategies that actually get implemented. She is also the founder of the national campaign Women Are Good Business, which reframes women not as a diversity initiative but as one of the biggest economic opportunities of our time. She is the Chair of The Gender Index and sits on the board of the Invest in Women Taskforce, where she works to increase funding and opportunities for female founders. In this conversation we talk about the investment gap facing female founders, why more women starting businesses could transform the economy, and the role strategy plays in building sustainable, profitable companies. We also get practical about cashflow, delegation, attracting female clients, and the mindset shifts that happen when you move from being an employee to running a business. This episode is for anyone who wants to better understand strategy, build a stronger business, or rethink how women are valued in the economy.Timestamps00:01:00 Why is there an investment gap?00:04:00 What about if you don’t think business is for you?00:10:00 Being an employee vs being a CEO00:12:00 Attracting female clients00:19:00 Strategy and why it matters00:23:00 Troubleshooting your strategy00:29:00 Talking about money00:35:00 Cashflow00:38:00 The skillset of a female founder00:41:00 Delegating00:47:00 A Beginner’s Guide to Being a Grown UpConnect with SamLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/samcoopergray/The Wisdom Studio: https://www.thewisdomstudio.co.ukWomen Are Good Business: https://www.womenaregoodbusiness.comPodcast: A Beginner’s Guide to Being a Grown Up – https://www.youtube.com/@ABeginnersGuidetoBeingaGrownUpThe Gender Index: https://www.thegenderindex.co.ukConnect with Me / The PodcastPodcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations and [email protected]

Work-Life Balance Is a Myth, Try This Instead…
What if I told you that you can actually have it all at once, just not in the way we have been taught to think about work life balance? If you constantly feel behind, overwhelmed, or like you are failing at having it all, this episode is for you. In 2026, in our hyper connected world, the traditional idea of work life balance feels like a constant tug of war. We have been sold this image of perfect equilibrium. But life does not work like that.In this episode, I unpack why chasing work life balance might actually be the thing keeping you stuck and burned out. I talk about a different way of thinking about time, energy, and focus that feels far more sustainable. Instead of trying to balance everything at once, we talk about flow. About seasons. About designing your life around your actual energy rather than an unrealistic standard.Inside this episode, I talk about Why work life balance is outdatedHow to do a life audit and see what is actually draining youWhy life works in seasons and how to stop fighting thatHow to do an energy audit using the theatre theory for relationshipsHow to spot a calendar mismatch that is quietly exhausting youTimestamps 00:01:20 - do a life audit 00:02:30 - life works in seasons00:08:30 - do an energy audit and the theatre theory00:11:40 - calendar mismatchI hope this resonates and that you are kinder to yourself after this. A Bossy Girl’s Guide to Overwhelm: 9 Easy Antidotes to Feel Instantly Better.
This episode is a bossy girl’s guide to overwhelm…I get overwhelmed really easily as a neurodivergent founder juggling a business, a podcast, admin, friendships, life and about a million open tabs in my brain. This episode is for anyone who gets overwhelmed easily, is juggling a lot, feels mentally overloaded, struggles with perfectionism, or just wants some simple ways to feel better without fixing their whole life.My antidotes to overwhelmPrioritise when your brain feels full- I often get overwhelmed when it feels like I have too many tabs open in my brain and I can’t prioritise. So I make a mind map or a list, then I ask what’s most important and urgent. The stuff that’s important but not urgent goes straight into my calendar with a time I’ll actually do it. And the random stuff I either park or delete.Admin hour My to-do list used to be so long because I’d write every tiny task separately. Now I batch admin and emails into one slot if I can, so it doesn’t take over my whole day.Buffer time- I add buffer time now to catch up on work or life admin or the tasks that always take longer than you think. Sometimes overwhelm is literally just over-scheduling and underestimating time. The 70 percent rule. When I’m overwhelmed my perfectionism ramps up. But done well is better than unfinished and perfect. I learned this through uni as well. Sometimes you just need to submit the thing, not rewrite it 14 times.Community and company- I used to find asking for help so shameful because I hated feeling like a burden. But having people around is so important. Even little things like planning with a friend, voice noting, or body doubling when you need to get something done.Stepping out of your bubble- Sometimes we’re trapped in the same cycle of habits, thoughts, and behaviours. When I feel overwhelmed I take myself out of my environment and go somewhere new to do deep work or just reset my brain.Morning pages- I used to wake up with so much anxiety and start the day on a back foot. Now I do morning pages in bed, reframe, add gratitude, and it genuinely helps. You have to break the cycle because your brain will run the same thoughts on loop.Improve your environment- Aside from leaving your environment, how can you make your current environment better for you. Clean your space, declutter, and also clear your digital and emotional space too. Your camera roll, your contacts, your notifications. It all adds up.Energy audits- Bring them back. Overwhelm is often a sign you’re leaking energy somewhere. Who drains you. What energises you. What tasks make you heavier. What makes you lighter. Energy accounting is a real thing.Rest your body, don’t quit- Overwhelm is also felt in the body. If you feel overwhelmed, rest. Don’t quit. Rest, don’t quit. When I get overwhelmed, I used to shut down important projects. Now I try to take some things off my plate instead. Sleep more, eat better, regulate your nervous system, and come back to it.Links mentioned:AI Episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-V2Bz67k50London Coffee shop Recs : https://www.empowersoundsmedia.com/product-page/the-cafe-nomad-databaseTimestamps For This Episode00:01:30 - 1: prioritise00:04:00 - 2: admin hour00:05:00 - AI to help with overwhelm00:07:00 - 3: energy accounting00:08:00 - 4: make a second brain00:11:15 - 5: regulate your nervous system00:15:44 - 6: morning pages00:17:00 - 7: reframing exercise00:21:00 - 8: body doubling00:22:30 - 8: leaving your bubbleI hope these help, comment down your favourite ones below and let me know what your antidotes to overwhelm are. The Anti Hustle Business Model More Women Need to Know About
What if success didn’t mean burnout? In this episode, we’re talking about building a business that works for you, not against you. If you’ve ever felt resistance to hustle culture, rigid 9–5 structures, or the idea that growth has to come at the expense of your wellbeing, this conversation is for you.Sam shares her journey of creating a home-based domestic cleaning business designed around flexibility, and how that business later evolved into a franchising model that allows other women to build sustainable, values-led businesses in their own way.We talk honestly about courage, limiting beliefs, emotional regulation as a founder, self-validation, and what it really looks like to design work around your life (especially as a mum), rather than forcing your life to fit your work. This episode is especially for anyone who wants to create a business that feels aligned, calm, and supportive without buying into hustle culture.Timestamps00:01:00 – The backstory: how the business began and why flexibility mattered from day one00:06:00 – How did you find the courage to do it your own way?00:12:30 – Limiting beliefs that show up as you grow00:15:00 – How to regulate your emotions and stay sane as a founder00:19:30 – Learning to self-validate instead of seeking external approval00:28:00 – Being a founder mum00:31:00 – Work-life balance (what it actually looks like)00:37:00 – Franchising: a different way to grow00:53:00 – What I wish I knew before getting into franchisingConnect with SamLinkedin : https://www.linkedin.com/in/sam-acton/Domestic Angels: https://domestic-angels.comConnect with Me / The PodcastPodcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations and inquiries:[email protected]

A Bossy Girl’s Guide to Breakups : How To Get Your Spark Back ...
This episode is for anyone going through a breakup who feels like they don’t have a big sister to sit them down and tell them it’s going to be okay.I don’t have a sister myself, but I’m incredibly lucky to have the most supportive friends and community of bossy gals around me. A lot of the things I share in this episode are things I learned through those conversations, through experience, and through sitting with the discomfort instead of running from it. I wanted to share this episode for anyone else who is going through heartbreak feeling overwhelmed, ashamed, or alone. In this solo episode of Reclaiming Bossy, I’m sharing my first-ever breakup, Before I talk about how I’m working through the breakup now, I walk through the things that really helped me go into the difficult conversation with more regulation, clarity, and compassion. This isn’t about blame or revenge bodies or glow-ups, or “bouncing back.” But on how to trust that everything will work out.If you’re heartbroken, trying to hold it together, or quietly grieving the future you imagined, this episode is for you. You don’t have to do this alone. You can do it with me.If you have a friend going through it right now send this episode to them as a digital hug.Timestamps:00:01:30 - shame00:02:30 - how to get into it00:03:00 - emotionally regulate yourself00:05:00 - boundaries00:06:30 - it’s okay to feel grief09:30:00 - gratitude is important00:10:30 - you can’t fail if don’t try00:14:00 - forgive yourself00:16:30 - let yourself lean on your friends00:20:00 - be a better friend and person yourself00:23:00 - there’s no point winning a break up00:28:00 - harvest season is comingIf you have any questions or stories you want to share reach out to me on socials :)Podcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy TikTok: @maahika.s

Why You Should Add Breath Work To Your 2026 Reset ...
If you add one thing to your 2026 reset, let it be breathwork. In this powerful and grounding episode, I’m joined by Lucy a breathwork and mindset coach who works with executives, leaders, and global companies to help them regulate their nervous systems, shift deeply ingrained patterns, and lead from a more embodied place.Lucy specialises in conscious connected breathwork, but in this conversation we go far beyond just one technique. We explore how different styles of breathing impact the mind, body, and nervous system, how breathwork connects to different centres in the body, and why real, lasting change isn’t just something you think your way into, it’s something you embody. This is a conversation about why breathwork is having such a moment, how breath can shift your mindset faster than thought alone, the link between breath, emotional regulation, and leadership, and why embodiment is missing from so many “mindset” conversations. This episode was something I personally needed as I build my 2026 reset, and breathwork is now a non negotiable practice I’m bringing into my year.If you’ve been doing the mindset work but still feel stuck, dysregulated, or disconnected from your body, this episode will change how you think about change itself.Connect with LucyInstagram: @lucyscarlettcoacheshttps://beacons.ai/lucyscarlettcoachesConnect with me/ the podcast Podcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations and [email protected]

2025 Wrapped: 12 Lessons You Might Need to Hear before 2026…
Inspired by Spotify wrapped, this is my 2025 wrapped. Instead of stats or numbers, I’m sharing the 12 biggest lessons I learned this year, one from each month.2025 was a full year. I launched my company, grew and evolved this podcast, brought it into video, built a team, graduated university top of my class, ran a half marathon, travelled across different countries, and got into my first relationship. A lot changed, quickly. But more than the milestones, this year taught me things I couldn’t have learned any other way. About starting before you feel ready. About choosing yourself. About rejection, self talk, receiving, failure, and taking space when you need it.I wanted to share these lessons not as advice, but as reflections I wish I’d heard earlier and that I think might be useful wherever you are right now. Whether you’re building something, navigating change, or figuring yourself out as you go, I hope this episode gives you clarity, perspective, or simply the reminder that you’re not behind. If this episode resonated, I’d love to know, What was one lesson 2025 taught you? The Easiest Way to Learn Any Language: How I Taught Myself Spanish From 0 to Fluent…
What if I told you that learning languages is actually really easy, you just need to find a method that works for you not the one the school system forced on everyone? Most of us grew up believing that learning a language is hard because school taught it in the most unnatural way possible: memorising endless vocab lists, doing grammar drills, and never actually using the language in real life. But that’s not how humans learn languages at all.In this episode, I break down the simple, natural system I used to go from zero Spanish → B1 completely self-taught, and then B1 → C1 fluent when I lived in Spain. No tutors. No expensive courses. No pressure. This is what worked for me with Spanish but I´m sure it applies for other languages too, and I want to try it next with Portuguese If you haven’t yet, listen to my “Learning to Learn” episode, it will make this whole process even easier and is mentioned as part of this language learning method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_SEwAn1SUgTimestamps 00:01:39 - Why do you want to do it?00:02:35 - What type of learner are you? 00:04:30 - Link to Learning to Learn episode00:04:35 - Create your world in this language00:06:30 - Vocabulary is Russian Doll - Circle #100:07:30 - Circle #2 - what do I like talking about?00:12:30 - Spanish Resources00:13:00 - The formula of Consistency00:15:50 - Balance input and output00:17:30 - Taking it a step furtherIf you have any questions about Spanish or language learning, comment below or message me on socials:Podcast Instagram: @reclaimingbossyMy Instagram: @maahika.sPodcast TikTok: @reclaimingbossyMy TikTok: @maahika.sFor collaborations & inquiries:[email protected]

Its time for rebrand, heres why ...
Its time for a rebrand, this is the start of a new era…For the last two and a half years, this podcast existed under the name Empower Sounds. It was about giving women a platform to share their stories. But somewhere along the way, I outgrew it, and it outgrew me.This episode is the story of that evolution. Beating the Men in Lycra Epidemic: Luca Kuhn on Cycling Fashion for Women
Why should women settle for cycling gear designed with men in mind?In this episode of Empower Sounds, I sit down with Luca Kuhn, founder of LUCA, the women’s cycling apparel brand redefining what it means to ride in style, comfort, and confidence. What started as an ick with the “men in Lycra epidemic” became the spark for Luca to create something new a fashion-forward cycling brand built for women, by women. Today, LUCA is more than apparel: it’s a community, a movement, and part of the women’s cycling revolution. What You’ll Learn in This Episode1. The “ick” that inspired LUCA and how frustration can fuel innovation2. Why women need cycling apparel that goes beyond men’s designs in smaller sizes3. The rise of CycleClubs and why they’re the new RunClubs4. How LUCA blends performance, fashion, and confidence in every piece5. Luca’s journey from cyclist to founder and lessons from building a purpose driven brand6. The importance of representation, community, and safe spaces in cycling Why This Matters1. The cycling apparel market was valued at $2.19B in 2024 and is forecasted to hit $3.36B by 2032.2. Women’s cycling clothing alone was valued at $1.23B in 2024 and expected to double by 2033.3. Yet, only 9% of UK women cycle weekly compared to 21% of men showing the need for better products, infrastructure, and representation.LUCA is stepping into that gap with stylish, functional gear and building a movement in the process.🔗 Connect with LUCAWebsite: https://www.rideluca.comInstagram: Ride_lucaInstagram (personal): lucakuhnTiktok: Ride_Luca🎧 Connect with Empower Sounds/MePodcast instagram : @empowersoundsMy Instagram: @maahika.sPodcast TikTok: @empowersoundspodcast My tiktok: @maahika.sLinkedIn: Maahika SinghFor collaborations and inquiries:[email protected]#WomensCycling #CyclingApparel #FemaleFounders #CycleClubs #CyclingFashion #Empowerment #StartupStories

You are not dumb, you just need to learn how to learn ...
If I could talk about only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be this: learning how to learn. This is the skill that changed everything for me. It’s what helped me go from being an average student to making the Dean’s List at university, graduating top of my class, and having my dissertation nominated for a national prize. It’s how I taught myself Spanish from scratch, despite not being able to learn French after seven years of school. It’s the foundation that helped me start my business, launch this podcast, move countries, and keep growing. In this episode, I break down what it really means to “learn to learn.” I talk about how no one is dumb, we just have to understand how our brains absorb information best. I always felt like a super average student but during COVID, I discovered different learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) and realised that when you learn to teach yourself things in a way that works for you, you can learn anything…In this episode we’ll cover:1) How to figure out whether you’re a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner2) How to actually improve your memory and retain more of what you study3) The formula for building consistency and self-discipline4) Practical methods for teaching yourself new skills, subjects, and even languagesToday´s episode is deeply personal and also one of the most practical I’ve ever recorded. These are the exact methods that took me from struggling with languages to fluently speaking Spanish, from average grades to thriving at university, and from confusion to clarity in my career. I’d love for you to listen and then share what resonates with you.Comment your thoughts below or in the podcast reviews so we can keep learning together as a community.Follow Empower Sounds Podcast:Instagram: @empowersoundsTikTok: @EmpowerSoundsPodcastFor collaborations and inquiries: [email protected] here on YouTube for new episodes every Monday and comment below your learning style or any questions you have :)

ABOUT THIS SHOW
Originally called Empower Sounds, the podcast has evolved and turned into Reclaiming Bossy!
