Show NotesOperation Highjump was a military mission conducted by the United States in Antarctica in 1946-47, led by Admiral Richard Byrd. The operation involved the deployment of a large fleet of aircraft and ships to explore and map the largely uncharted continent, as well as to conduct scientific research and test military equipment and tactics.The mission was divided into several task forces, each with specific objectives, including mapping the coastline, establishing bases, and conducting scientific experiments. Despite encountering numerous challenges, such as harsh weather conditions and technical difficulties, the mission achieved many of its objectives, including the establishment of several new research stations and the collection of valuable data about Antarctica's geology, weather patterns, and wildlife.However, Operation Highjump also sparked controversy due to rumors of a secret military agenda and encounters with unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Understanding the Noise of the Universe. Are there Hidden Messages in the Static?This week on Science vs. Conspiracy: we will try to understand the noise of the universe and if there is a hidden message in the static, over coffee.There was 1 signal in particular that got the attention of astronomers on August 15, 1977. What is now referred to as the WOW signal, a strong narrowband radio signal was detected by Ohio State University’s Big Ear Radio Telescope. The signal was observed for a full 72 seconds. 72 seconds is the amount of time the radio telescope is pointed in any direction because of the Earth’s rotation. The signal was captured at the frequency shared by hydrogen of 1420.3556 MHz. Which makes this frequency ideal for transmitting information because hydrogen atoms are common throughout the galaxy.But it was unlike any other signal detected prior to or since. The signal apparently originated from the constellation of Sagittarius. The closest known star is Tau Sagittarii. Roughly 122 Light years away. The signature of the narrowband signal starts off low then gradually reaches its peak 36 seconds in before slowly back down for the remainder of the 72 seconds. The signal was detected this way because of the design of the telescope and how it observers the sky with the Earth's rotation.

Over the past couple of weeks on the show I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of simulation theory. The more I look at it, the stranger it becomes. We start to see 2 separate theories emerge that open up new questions for both. The first is simulation theory. Described as living in a computer generated program that is running to simulate a situation or an event. The other is we are living in a computer generated world but not part of a simulation. Everything around us is at its foundation a mathematical equation written using some sort of computer code that governs every part of our existence. But if either of these scenarios are true would we have free will? How would free will work inside software?

If SIMULATION THEORY Is True, Would It Change Anything?When we say the name PONG, it instantly brings up images of a black screen, 2 white lines, and a bouncing ball. Back in 1972 this was revolutionary. The technology needed to interact with the images on the screen was mind bending. Yet by today's standards it is very primitive. This is the story of the time a ghost was murdered, shot dead in Hammersmith.But back in December of 1803 villagers of Hammersmith began being terrorized by a ghost covered in a white shroud. The ghost would appear out of the darkness and confront unsuspecting travellers.
