Just create an MP3 and give me a brief description of your show in an email to me at [email protected] Podcasting & Spreaker’s Events Calendar- Listener Comments Let's get into the show:- How Important is Distribution? - Spreaker’s NEW Announcement: One-Tap Podcast Distribution in Spreaker Studio on iOS Our goal is to create the best all-in-one podcast creation app, one which is portable, flexible and works for every level of podcasters. This year we’ve made two further steps towards achieving this goal: in February we announced our first post-production feature, allowing iOS users to edit while on-the-go, and in January we added a new navigation bar, giving users clear access to their episodes drafts, previous episodes, and stats.Continuing this mission of creating an app tailored to podcasters’ needs, we’re super excited to announce the launch of a new update.Be ready to enjoy our one-tap podcast distribution feature, a function we know will help to remove some of the complications and fuss out of creating a podcast! One Tap Distribution – Minimum Effort, Maximum Results. One tap will give you (both Android and iOS users) the power to reach literally millions of new listeners by publishing to Apple Podcasts via Podcast Connect Apple ID login as we pass your feed URL to Apple Podcast Connect No Cut and Pasting, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Spreaker. Also, once a podcast is available on Apple Podcasts it automatically becomes available on other key listening platforms such as Breaker, Pocket Casts, Overcast and more – giving you the opportunity to literally double your audience. The importance of good distribution is equally as important as creating excellent content, that’s why we wanted to make it super straightforward for our users.Instead of thinking ‘where should I submit my podcast?’ and the need to access individual platforms, we’ve removed one step so you can quickly access and distribute straight from one location. What’s more, the one-tap functionality, combined with our unique live record feature, means that you can literally record and distribute a podcast in seconds, wherever and whatever you’re doing. - Submit Your Show, We’ll Take Care of the RestThen it’s just a matter of waiting up to 48 hours to have your show approved (note it will be available immediately on Spreaker and Spreaker Radio). As soon as your show is accepted you’ll be notified by e-mail, but you can always check in on the status via the app – that way you can see whether it’s been approved, waiting approval or rejected. Our New Look Show Screen - The Round-UpThese changes are just some of the many users and visual rethinks we have planned for Spreaker Studio for the coming months.Follow us on social to make sure you don’t miss any of the announcements and make sure you’ve got the latest version of Spreaker Studio so you can enjoy the benefits! - Podcast Review of the Week: “History Unplugged Podcast” For history lovers who listen to podcasts, History Unplugged is the most comprehensive show of its kind. It's the only show that dedicates episodes to both interviewing experts and answering questions from its audience. First, it features a call-in show where you can ask our resident historian (Scott Rank, PhD) absolutely anything (What was it like to be a Turkish sultan with four wives and twelve concubines? If you were sent back in time, how would you kill Hitler?). Second, it features long-form interviews with best-selling authors who have written about everything. Topics include gruff World War II generals who flew with airmen on bombing raids, a war horse who gained the rank of sergeant, and presidents who gave their best speeches while drunk. I subscribe to a podcast when the content matches my interests and name, audio quality is good, focused, and they drive value to listener life - What does the listener get from the content or what emotions are driven… impactful!!Deliver undeniable value first, and then ask for the commitment of a subscribe in Apple Podcasts or other listening apps.Send listeners to your website and place “Subscribe” links to Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can include directions on what to do with these links if you want… many folks just don’t understand all that stuff- Voxnest Data Shows Women Over the Age of 55 Listen to More Podcasts than Men +55When looking at the gender split, podcast listening takes a turn when looking at age groups. 2019 might be the year of the woman, with listening jumping from 41.5% to 44.9% for women, while decreasing from 58.5% to 55.51% for men. Females aged between 55-64 and over 65 have been listening to more podcasts than males in the same age groups. This likely is due to more content being published for a female audience, as shows focused on genres such as true crime surge in popularity.https://blog.voxnest.com/data-finds-women-over-the-age-of-55-listen-to-more-podcasts-than-men/#more-623- Podcast Review of the Week: “It's Not That Serious” Humor writer and popular online personality Anna Lind Thomas hosts the irreverent, hilarious and faith filled podcast that will inspire you to fully enjoy life, even when things look grim. Totally makes sense to me.Seems like the power is to use both Meetup and Facebook GroupsOrganizers discussed in the blog post generally feel like Meetup is great for RSVPs but those people aren’t as likely to show up. Those that find out about events on Facebook do tend to show up more. Meetup attendees are notoriously flakey”. I agree, I have run Podcaster Meetups in Seattle for Years.Attendance will vary a lot based on month of the year, venue and purpose of the eventCommunities attract all levels of podcasterBeing an Event Organizer can have many professional benefits - building your leadership brand can help your podcast grow too. On the listener community side, I would recommend to create just a Facebook group for your listeners to engage with each other and ge listener feedback on topics and building intra-listener relationships. -Podcast Promo of the Week: Multilinguish Podcast by Babbel USA Team: Are Not multilingual, but language-curious? Just create an MP3 and give me a brief description of your show in an email to me at [email protected] Podcasting & Spreaker’s Events Calendar On the show today:-5 Steps to Creating a Podcast Budget It’s a myth that setting up a podcast needs to be costly or expensive (of course it can be!) but podcasting on a budget is totally achievable. Whatever your budget or level, you can make podcasting work for you -Understand Your IncomeTherefore step number 1 is to make a clear goal of exactly what you want to do with your new podcast. By defining the purpose of your show and its format (how and where you are producing it etc) will help you create the foundations of the budget you need to create.TIP: Always remember to take into consideration whether this is your profession or a hobby – how much you initially input will differ if you see this having cash rewards or not!Determine your fixed costsNext on your to-do list is to identify all of your fixed costs necessary for running your show.Based on your planning around how you’re going to produce your show, you’ll need to do some research what options there are for your show’s needs and requirements. The things you need to take into consideration are items like your host platform, microphone.-One of the main fixed costs (your host platform) can be kept to a minimum, by choosing free or low-cost podcast hosting platforms such as: Free getting started plan options.TIP: Make sure you haven’t missed anything by taking a look through past bank statements and tick off everything in there. Identify your variable (and one-off expenses)Variable costs are those which are necessary for your business to continue functioning but change from month to month. And, if this is the beginning of your podcasting journey you’ll also need to include your one-off costs – money to cover your basic equipment: microphone and headset and also some $ to create some awesome cover art (we’ve written a guide to creating great cover art, here).Wondering how to identify your variable costs? Look at what you’ve spent on office supplies, marketing / promotional costs or replacing old equipment over the last 6 months and calculate an average outgoing cost. About to start your podcast? Try and predict what you might spend (we’ve written a blog on launching a podcast you might want to take a look at) and use this to structure your budget for the first few months, once you’re up and running you can cross-check to see if your prediction is in line with the reality!TIP: Variable and one-off costs are usually the fun ones so they’re the most important ones to keep in check in your budget!-Make a rainy day fundWe would also highly recommend incorporating to your budget a fixed amount that you put away each month as part of a contingency fund. Putting away a little bit of money on a regular basis will mean you never go into crisis when something unexpected comes up!TIP: An easy way to break down your money is the 50/30/20 method. Attributing 50% to your necessary items, 30% to the things you want and 20% to saving for the future and a rainy day!-Create your budget! Now’s the time for the fun, cr(cast)eating the budget! You can build it on paper, Excel or Google Sheets or try one of the many Apps out there.Hopefully, we’ve helped debunk the myth that starting a podcast isn’t achievable without stacks of money – whatever your budget there’s a way to do it and the big expenses can always be postponed till when your show has some traction and you start earning!https://blog.spreaker.com/5-steps-to-creating-a-podcast-budget/-Podcast Review of the Week: Out of the Shadows Series by Shane Waters - Clip is from Part 16 : Interview with the Archdiocese of Baltimore (Part 1) discussing clergy abuse - Play Audio Clip from Introducing the show episode guest ----- Then Here is a clip from the investigative questioninghttps://www.spreaker.com/show/out-of-the-shadows_1 -Featured Podcast Show Of The Week: Halli Casser-Jayne Show - A terrific Politics and Entertainment topics program - https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-halli-casser-jayne-show_1 -Listener Comment - Allan Tépper about last week’s show:That was a great and educational conversation between Rob and Francesco. Based on the trends in the research is listening growing faster over the past couple of years as we have seen more new content get created?I have read you saying that Podcasting needs more - high quality “Crap” content to grow faster - can you explain that?I read your article on Spotify, Music and Podcasting - The meteor is coming - to destroy the current open podcasting earth?Let’s talk about Spotify and the recent purchase of Gimlet and Anchor for some large dollars - those dollars signal a few things:Podcast Industry potential and revenue growth or cost savings to music streaming platforms?Increased audience growth, better tech and better and more content investmentWhy do you think Spotify is aggressively moving towards Podcasts - is about cost savings fewer music royalty payments as Podcast listening goes up or is that the whole story (Original Video Series? With Gimlet buy)Tom you think “Music” in podcasting is the key to “FASTER Growth” it seems - more revenue for music artists and podcasters plus music platforms. These coming music podcasts will likely be only on these music streaming platforms, not in the open podcasting world - thus will these really be podcasts? The music licence owners will not like downloads and this content will be streaming only.Given my understanding of how music podcasts will work - it is not really a threat to podcasting as we know it today as we are talking about new music shows on the music streaming platforms that are not really podcasts. Key is the “Download”? Women in Podcasting - the gender gap in podcasting is closing - Why do you think this is happening --- Listening and Hosting/creating - 3% growth a year, seems slow, but steady https://www.edisonresearch.com/women-podcast-listeners-closing-the-listening-gender-gap/Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

Many choose to build audience first, then slowly get into advertising, keep in mind audience size is important to gaining revenue from advertising as is most of the time based on a CPM model or getting paid based on an increment of 1,000 download/plays of your show. Ad’s can be either baked in “Host Reads”, typically only available to large audience shows in the 10’s of thousands range. The other type is the monetization offered by Spreaker with every paid pro account utilizes Dynamic Ad Insertion and we do all the ad sales for you. You can enable Preroll, Midroll and Postroll Ads and it will just do it all for you and you get a revenue share on it. Just need to set your Midroll positions in each of your episodes. -Podcast Review of the Week: This Week Unwrapped w/ Oilly Mann - The biggest unreported Global stories of the week, discussed, digested and debated. What makes a "podcast city" is the community of podcasters. A strong local ecosystem makes for strong shows. It is just like in music. Cities with strong interconnected music communities produce exceptional bands. I think the same thing will work for podcasting. We just need to start building those communities and that is exactly what the guild is trying to do. The DMVShowHey guys! I actually started my podcast doing live shows roughly 2 yrs ago. When I started podcasting in 2012, live podcasting was a relatively new thing. Podcasts were always an “on-demand” medium, allowing you to consume pre-recorded content later via RSS. In fact, only a few podcasting companies allowed you to podcast live, like my podcast host Spreaker.com.Like other users I played with the go-live option, but preferred to take the safe, traditional route and pre-record the show. It wasn’t until I did a live all-day marathon that I found the true power of doing a live broadcast. Now, in 2018, I’m all in on live broadcasting! Here are the top reasons why you should consider going live.Instant Interaction And Feedback - Listener FriendshipsDid you just hit your listener’s funny bone? It’s easy to see with the string of LOLs and emojis in the comments section. Shock your audience into silence? Silent phones are a dead giveaway. Did you piss off all your listeners? The ALL CAPS comments full of bite and bile tell the tale. If you wonder how listeners are reacting to your show, going live is a great way to get instant feedback. Most podcasts may get five to 10 comments max per episode, but go live and it is common to get hundreds of comments per episode. Granted, many of the comments are from the same users, but the overall interaction and feedback is far and beyond any on-demand podcast you might do.Immediate Satisfaction - Both Host and Live ListenerWhen I was an actor doing live theater, I loved the immediate satisfaction of hearing the audience gasp from a dramatic moment on stage. My fellow thespians and I would become motivated and energized by their reaction. You will find the same thing happening to you when broadcasting live. Don’t forget this goes both ways. Your audience will get immediate acknowledgement in real time and it will encourage them to give even more feedback. Less Production Time - Pre-planning makes a differencePre-production not your thing? Going live can help with that. Just play a quick intro and get into the meat of the show. No need for fancy sound bites, effects, royal music, etc. Find post-production editing too time consuming? No worries, since the show is already published. When using platforms like Spreaker.com you have the option to have the live broadcast archived. The download is then available to those who prefer to listen on-demand. It’s Exciting! --- Thrill and Scary Too!I still get a rush when I see the “Live” light turn on. There is a certain energy that comes with broadcasting live. Part of the excitement is not knowing what might happen next. There is a vibe you just don’t get recording a podcast by yourself in an empty room. On-demand can actually feel a bit boring after going live for a while.Alex Exum is the host of ‘Live Talk’ Monday – Thursdays 7 p.m. PST at livetalk.live and thefringe.fm. 2018 Saw Large Growth in NEW Podcasts Published - Doubling of EpisodesSuccessful podcasters know they need to earn listeners’ time, attention, and loyalty. It’s never been more important to produce original, high-quality, creatively brave shows. It’s never been more important to invest in audience development and show marketing. The crowd is getting bigger. It wasn't drastic, but I did notice a small bump. ~TamaraTHE FRINGE FMI think another thing people need to ask themselves is.....Are they ready to be heard by thousands? Is the show ready to go? Because listeners give you one or two chances and that's about it.Linda Irwin Get onto as many platforms as you can because you catch new people that way. I very recently returned to You Tube. Spreaker Studio App Now Speaks Brazilian Portuguese - Growing your podcast listeners? Try these 8 tips Show Today: - 7 Podcasting Trends to Watch For in 2019- Should you podcast during the holidays? - Podcasts have an Increasingly Diverse Audience - Listener CommentsOn the show today:- Podcasting Trends To Watch For in 2019:1) In 2018, growth on the podcast content side has been outpacing the listening side, and that’s leading me to wonder whether all this content can realistically find an audience that will align with the projected advertising revenue in 2019 and beyond. If podcast history serves as a guide, growth in audience will catch up eventually to bring balance again. What this means is that podcasters can't simply build it and wait for audiences to come. In 2019 and beyond, as more and more content is available, it will be increasingly important the whole podcast industry focus on converting more android smartphone and radio listeners to becoming podcast listeners in 2019.2) Podcasters in 2019 will be looking to get in all the new music service platforms and grow big audiences while also expecting more promotional support from their podcast hosting platforms. Those platforms providing this level of support will prove challenging to do across thousands of podcast shows, but is very much part of the growing need and desire to grow the podcast listening audience for their show and the overall industry.3) Listening trends in 2019 will increasingly be built around very diverse audience communities. No longer can podcasts be seen as a by-white-male, for-white-male medium. In fact, 2018 marked the year when the demographics of podcast audiences nearly mirrored the demographics of the United States overall. at least for gender and ethnicity4) International growth of downloads will continue in 2019 from these top 10 fastest growing countries based on Voxnest data in 2018: Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Netherlands, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Turkey, Mexico, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Looking at the countries with the highest quantity of downloads: United States of America, Denmark, Brazil, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland. We see that even some mature podcasting markets are still growing.5) When it comes to mobile devices, the Android operating system is the global leader, with an astonishing 72% market share. Still, with just 24.4% of the market, Apple dominates when it comes to podcast listening worldwide. According to our metrics, the ratio of listening on Apple Podcasts versus general podcast listening on Android is about five to one. With this disparity, it seems getting a larger share of Android users to listen to podcasts would immediately increase the number of listeners worldwide. 6) When Google Podcasts launched, there was a lot of excitement around its potential to grow the industry exponentially and quickly. But after a surge at launch, adoption has slowed and usage declined. Six months in, most would classify the initiative as a big disappointment. Many industry leaders believe the reasons Google Podcasts has struggled include a confusing app installation process and a complete lack of promotion - particularly from podcasters, who are primarily in the Apple ecosystem. 7) In 2019 will see industry wide rollout of IAB podcast audience metrics standards that will forever change the podcast advertising market as the medium will finally have a measurement of downloads that everyone is in agreement. As more podcast hosting platforms including Voxnest’s Spreaker undergo the extensive and expensive verification for the IAB v.2 Podcast Metrics Guideline certification, advertisers’ confidence in podcasting will grow. Armed with analytics that show real, growing ROI, 2019 should be a breakthrough year where more big brands turn to the medium to reach and engage audiences. Meanwhile, as the year progresses, the emphasis on audience metrics as the competitive feature that business models are built on, the industry can get back to competing based on the quality of the content.Should you podcast during the holidays?“Man In Beta” Posted this to comments from episode #172: This should go back to how well you know your audience surely? Thanksgiving was only a holiday in the States. How much of your audience are you ignoring by only thinking about one market? I think you need to look at your stats and work out WHERE your audience is before answering this question. If 90% are outside the States, then you're doing your audience a disservice. But this "States first " mentality is a little odd in the modern podcasting realm considering where most the major platforms were founded - hint: most are not from the States (Spotify, Deezer, Spreaker, SoundCloud) and ignores the global reach of Google and Apple Podcasts. Americans need to get their heads out of their box and realise there is a whole world out there full of current and potential listeners. For example, my Football Manager podcast (yes soccer) has a nice little audience in Vietnam and Australia.- Podcasts have an Increasingly Diverse Audience No longer can podcasts be seen as a by-white-male, for-white-male medium. In fact, 2018 marked the year when the demographics of podcast audiences nearly mirrored the demographics of the United States overall. at least for gender and ethnicity. According to a presentation by Edison Research at this year’s WerkIt conference, the podcast audience is now 48% female, up from 44% in 2016 and 2017. 2018- 52% men /48% women2017- 56% men / 44% women2016- 56% men/ 44% womenThe nearly-even split is only part of the story. In the U.S., women buy more than 80 percent of all U.S. goods and services, making them an important audience for advertisers. Furthermore, self-identified heavy podcast listeners fall into highly-coveted demographic groups: married, millennials with kids and high earnings. It’s the growth of this audience that will bring more brands to podcast advertising to catalyze the industry’s growth. - Listener Comments:Linda Irwin I use different voices for my characters, too. I doubt if I could find anyone else to help me out and my comedy partner is unavailable for over a year and a half now.I sometimes have to change the days I do shows month to month, but I warn people in the show itself before the schedule changes.I also do not have a minimum time length but I do not go over 45 minutes. Voxnest customers, including those on the company’s Spreaker platform, now have the benefit of DAX monetization, while advertisers can take advantage of advanced targeting and measurement solutions. “It’s an exciting time to be involved in this medium, and we’re confident that our easy-to-use, efficient and scalable solution for creating, monetizing and distributing audio content will have a catalyzing effect on creators worldwide.”This is utilizing Dynamic Ad Insertion technology at Voxnest to Spreaker to help all levels of podcasters to monetize.- Record your podcast hand-free with Siri Shortcuts and Spreaker StudioWith iOS 12, Siri became more than just a voice assistant, it became your virtual mind reader, with the ability to recommend you things you should, or usually do, at particular times.Siri now has the power to automatically identify your common tasks, location or calendar events and will tell you whether you should be somewhere or doing something. Also, it suggests specific apps for specific situations, via its visual interface when you access Spotlight search or with the lock screen – meaning that you can repeat actions quickly and easily. Now users will be able to record phrases which Siri will understand as triggers for predefined actions and this means that it’s even easier to access some of Spreaker Studio features in iOS on iPhone and iPad.Example: Let your voice take control, use Spreaker Studio hands-freeMost interestingly though, there are two special Siri podcast commands available to use with your Spreaker Studio App which will make your podcasting life even easier.First up, is the ‘Record Audio’ trigger, there’s no need to press a button, say the command and you’ll be recording. So even if you’re out and about and doing 200 other things at once, there’s no excuse now not to get podcasting!https://blog.spreaker.com/record-your-podcast-hand-free-with-siri-shortcuts-and-spreaker-studio/- Coming Events Spreaker will be at:http://Podcon.com in Seattle - Jan 19-20, 2019 - Large eventSpreaker will have a booth and Sponsorship this year - Listener Comments & Questions:Mark Dowding - Spreaker Podcaster here - https://www.spreaker.com/user/maninbetaI have to admit I am with Alex on the Pandora thing. Being from outside the USA I don't even see my podcasts getting on to their platform, can we even get on to the Google platform yet?The other issue I have is with listener feedback. Is this going to be yet another place I have to check for listener comments? I don't want to alienate people by not responding to them. But there are too many platforms now to keep track of and see feedback on. I am now of the opinion that if you know your audience then you know where they are mostly consuming their content. I do a Football Manager podcast, a niche made mostly of a younger audience who consume a lot through youtube and Soundcloud. So those are the platforms I focus on (outside of the usual Apple, RSS crowd).Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

Enjoy this writeup of the event https://medium.com/audio-musings/a-podcast-festival-of-ones-own-56180b6099f3- How to Submit a Podcast to Spotifythe most famous digital audio content platform in the world with 159 million users worldwide and a reported 83 million paying subscribers in June 2018 (up from 57 million in June 2017).Spotify re-hosts your show which means if you have your ads set with Dynamic Ad Insertion they won’t be played – but keep your eyes peeled as Podnews recently stated in one of their recent newsletters that Spotify are currently testing pass-through shows! What’s Needed To Get Approved on SpotifyThis is where we want to explain to you the basics for getting your audio content “Spotify ready”! At a basic level, to submit your podcast to Spotify you need to make sure it is in the following format:-MP3 format with a good quality level: audio with bitrates between 96 and 320 kbps).-Size: Each episode needs to be under 200MB. 200MB works out to be around 83 minutes at 320Kbps or over 200 minutes at 128Kbps.-Podcast Image: your artwork must be square (1:1), the highest resolution possible and either a JPEG or PNG. -Podcast feed values: special characters, in particular the ampersand (&) character must be HTML encoded (&). HTML tags such as or will be removed by Spotify.-Episode titles: should not exceed 20 characters to ensure they sit well on all Spotify screens.-Podcast feed fields: All podcast feeds must have a title, image and at least 1 episode to qualify.-Last but definitely not least, always make sure that your content doesn’t include any copyrighted materials (Podsafe content is fine!).How Long Does it Take and How Do I Know if I’ve Been Approved? Now you’ve sent your podcast to Spotify it’s all just a waiting game! Approval can take anywhere between a few hours to 5 days. The best way to get your podcast on Spotify is to host it on one of the recommended platforms, such as: Spreaker, Libsyn or Podbean. If you’re hosting your podcast on SoundCloud you might use the form from Spotify. https://artists.spotify.com/faq/popular#how-do-i-get-a-podcast-on-spotifyhttps://podcasters.spotify.com/Where do you see Spotify statistics? After your show starts to get plays on Spotify you’ll no doubt want to see what effect it has on your listens! Although Spotify doesn’t give podcasters direct access to their stats and data, most of the numbers you need to know you’ll find by checking your host platform. With Amazing 'bumps” higher to 13% on Weekends.. Apple Watches gained the option to play podcasts in mid September. That is fast adoption and change. Not sure if it is growth in listening, but could be?the ability to have Podcasts app on the watch has been added by watchOS 5, the latest operating system available for Apple Watch. It goes together with iOS12 (on the iPhone). For sure, you can both download episodes on the watch and play them later (offline) but also play them as a stream.-Do We Need a New Podcasting Association?Any industry association needs to be a) international; b) representative of the industry (so have NPR in there as well as indies); c) the blessing of Apple, Spotify and Google. You might be asking a simple question of Why? Yes again, we have been here before and it was called the Association of Downloadable Media (ADM). It was a grassroots started organization formed by some of the larger players in the podcasting space back in 2008.Now ten years later and much maturity in the market has occurred, but most new people to podcasting will not have known this history. It is also true that it does not matter now much what happened in the past, but what we do now going forward. I agree with that thought, but some lessons can be learned from that experience to make an organization work this time. The ADM was mostly a failure by most measures with group in fighting and backroom closed door communications in efforts to control the efforts of the group, but some good came out of it and we did set some very basic measurement standards that has carried the overall podcasting industry till the more recent efforts by the IAB Podcast Metrics Working Group to establish v.1 and more recently IAB v.2 Podcast Metrics Standards. The thought is to create and industry group that can collaborate to create more standards in the industry around advertising formats, best practices around dynamic ad insertion and programmatic ad buying. The large brands and agencies need some whitepapers with examples of successful advertising campaigns. As we see host/talent read ad spots converge more with programmatic buying platforms we will see revenue grow in the podcasting medium.Clearly we also need to keep working on audio playing client side metrics to realize the complete picture of listening from downloaded podcast audio files. This new unnamed podcast industry association would enable everyone to come together around growing the listening side of the podcasting industry with the potential of co-op online and offline marketing and promotion.I have a proposed name for the new association and that might be “Professional Podcast Association” (PPA) or “Global Podcast Association” (GPA). Please reach out and let me know if you have any other ideas about this proposal – rob at robgreenlee dotcom.Article: http://www.robgreenlee.com/2018/10/26/is-a-new-podcasting-industry-association-needed-again/-Enabling your Spreaker Monetization ToolsEvery Show Created on Spreaker can be enabled to create cash for the podcasterAll opt in too! The radio that is baked into the car is easy to use, comes with a lifetime of habituation, and provides good enough content (music, talk radio) for the overwhelming majority of people.Blend that with the fact that most individual rides are not that long, and bothering with a podcast (or audiobook) is just not worth it for most people.Edison Research unveiled some data about in-car audio. Podcasting appeared to be part of the "other" category, at less than 4% of all audio listened-to in the car.https://mediaconfidential.blogspot.com/2018/09/radio-show-radio-sharing-tsl-with-more.html- Coming Events Spreaker will be at:Next Event: Rain Summit Canada - Toronto - Oct 10th, 2018NAB NYC - Oct 17-18, 2018 - Booth N264https://www.nabshowny.com/Vancouver Podcast Festival - November 8-10, 2018 - https://www.vanpodfest.ca/programming-announcementPodcon.com in Seattle - Jan 19-20, 2019 - Large event- Listener Comments & Questions:Linda IrwinI changed my profile picture. Interactivity - connection with audiences at a deeper level with LIVEMore flexibility in production time for pre-recording segments and piece together -Your RSS Feed: What it is, Why You Need It and How to Use itRSS Feed: What is it?Before explaining the ins and outs of exactly what an RSS Feed is, let’s look at what the acronym actually stands for. RSS literally means ‘Rich Site Summary’ but it is also commonly known as ‘Really Simple Syndication’. Why? An RSS Feed is mandatory for distributing or syndicating your podcast as it is literally the URL for your show! What does a podcast feed mean? Once you set up your Feed your content will be ready to be submitted to podcast applications or news readers to subscribe to your content. So great places to add your podcast feed to are Apple Podcasts/iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Create podcast only rss feed is required.RSS feed: Why is it so Important?Simply put: It contains all of your podcast’s information: title, image, description, mp3 file URL, and category. All the information necessary for your podcast to be distributed outside of your hosting platform. RSS allows you to syndicate content to different platforms so that you can reach diverse audiences without the need for them need to visit your website directly.Podcast Hosting: What are the benefits? For listeners: it means they don’t need to sign up for emails or push notifications for shows which interest them, they can stay up-to-date and find all their favorite podcasts in one podcasting app. Upload your content to one place and it get distributed everywhereRSS feed: Where Should You Host Your Podcast? In answer to this question there’s no hard and fast rule – it completely depends on the sort of podcaster you are! The first thing you need to ask yourself though is whether you want to self-host or use a hosting platform and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.Self-hosting – by hosting everything yourself it means that you have complete control over your Feed, you own it and your workflow is simple – in turn, this means if anything happens to your website, your podcast goes down too. Furthermore, shared hosting means lots of people using the same resources which can lead to technical problems. Bear in mind that you will need to have some technical skills in order to know how to code and build the RSS Feed and to always know what’s happening in the industry which might require an update to your Feed!podcast rss feed exampleHost – host platforms are designed to handle the specifications and needs of a podcaster, this means the technology behind the sites are able to scale with your show as it grows! As they are developed for end-users they also have excellent support teams who are on hand to offer technical support when needed!your feed is the skeleton of your showWhen weighing up the positives and negatives of where to host your RSS Feed, consider this: your feed is the skeleton of your show and when deciding your host location you absolutely need to make sure your hosting service allows redirection. The most popular hosting services generally allow this and Spreaker includes this option in the RSS Customization option.google play email tag - recommend not to worry about submitting to Google PlayWith Spreaker you can also apply very specific changes according to the devices in which your listeners are listening to your show, like iOS11 and the Season and Episodes tags. You can also apply changes from Spreaker CMS that will come through as tags in your RSS feed’s metadata, such as: your seasons, episode order and episode labels. To read more about this, check out our previous blog post on adding tags to your podcast.iOS11 seasons and episodes tagsRSS feed: How Do I Stay in Control?Nowadays, podcasters or whoever is using an RSS Feed have a high level of control over it, users can manage, move and customize their feed to exactly how they want it. Most podcast hosts allow podcasters to customize different fields of their RSS Feed with categories, author’s name or e-mail. For example Libsyn and Blubrry’s Powerpress both offer extensive RSS Feed customization. The option to have full control of the RSS feed also offers the chance to redirect the RSS Feed and to add a prefix to the RSS Feed. Redirecting a feed means fully owning it and it’s worth noting that in the future you might want to host your podcast somewhere else and if you forward the old one to your new host it will mean that you don’t lose listeners who are subscribed to the old feed.how to get a podcast feed addressRound UpWhichever route you choose to go with your RSS Feed, self-hosting or using a provider, always make sure that you stay in control as it’s the key to utilising it to its maximum! We hope that by using our guide you now feel confident in answering some of the key questions on the subject, such as: what does podcast feed mean? or where to submit podcast your feed. Good luck in making the most of your podcast RSS Feed!-Apple Podcasts Top 200 Ranking Manipulation IssueIn an astonishing video, Twitter user Lime Link posts a video that shows the extent of Apple Podcasts Chart manipulation: it shows a clever way of how to spot the podcasts gaming the system, and how to do it yourself (don't).Podnews.net reported this in May, they showed five podcasts in the top ten suspected of manipulating the charts, and people advertising for manipulators. We've also seen evidence of people threatening podcasters who don't use their service with "one star ratings and bad comments". And where's Apple?Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wimv1aJ4ra8My speculation: Only answer to this is that it might be misleading comparing subscription data on castbox to apply it to apple subscription activity, plus the only other explanation could have some element of editorial just like New and Noteworthy is all editorial (selected for feature by Apple staff, .Buying placement by creating activity by using large banks of iPhones to subscribe and unsubscribe activity in a short period of time. Article written by Steven Goldstein for RadioInk.com - https://radioink.com/2018/08/07/why-radio-is-still-struggling-with-podcasting/How will commercial radio power through, and, more significantly, what is hindering the progress of commercial radio in podcasting? Answer - model after public radio!!!Podcasts are not the same as broadcasts. There is a widespread but false assumption that broadcast audio migrates easily to downloaded audio. Our experience is that each media platform is different. What works on TV is different from what works on YouTube, yet they are both video experiences. In a similar way, podcasts are different from terrestrial radio. We’re finding a similar pattern in our work with smart speakers. Different types of content connect and resonate on smart speakers.Who’s going to make all this stuff? Looking down the hallways at the average radio station, you’ll see there aren’t a lot of extra bodies. Everyone is doing three jobs. Who will focus on podcasting in each station, and do they understand the medium? DJ’s aren’t trained for this. Most air personalities are great at what they’ve been trained to do, connecting with an audience in brief snippets, but does that mean they are qualified to do a 30-minute podcast on health or motherhood? Many stations assume they can take their talent and easily build original podcast content around them. So far, the results are sketchy. Podcasts can be hard to monetize. Building worthwhile podcasts and teaching the audience how to find and listen to them is a process that can be antithetical to the “We’ve got to make the June budget” environment. R&D plays a big role.Fear of cannibalization. Most radio programmers are working harder than ever to levitate Persons Using Radio levels and TSL against the numerous outside forces and choices ranging from Spotify to owned music and podcasts. Many view podcasts as accelerating radio’s decline.Innovation is critical today as brands learn to meet customers where they are. Starbucks built a ready-to-drink business of in-grocery-store sales. It has taken them 10 years, but today it accounts for 12 percent of their business. If you build it, they will likely come — but it may not be by Tuesday. One of radio’s great assets is its powerful megaphone to drive traffic, but ahead of that is the development of quality content that people will seek out and download. The bar is higher than just punching around the radio dial. But is is the same target audience listening to podcasts is the question? What works in every content-first setting is the development of difficult-to-duplicate, compelling programming. That’s the place for commercial radio to start on its podcast quest.- What Are Podcasting’s Hot Topics?Do we NEED a NEW Professional Podcasting AssociationIAB v.2 Metrics Standards Certification? How to GROW OVERALL Listenership? Is New Content outpacing Listenership? As probably every podcaster already knows, at the end of May, Apple communicated that they will soon require secure podcast feeds as part of publishing podcasts with them.-This means that podcasters who have already submitted their show to Apple Podcasts will need to ensure they are using a secure podcast feed with an SSL certificate and for those of you who plan to submit in the future, you need to make sure you have it set up. If you’re not a techy person this basically means that it is recommended to use a podcast HTTPS RSS feed, with the “S” in HTTPS literally standing for ‘secure’.-What does this mean for you?We want to make the transition as easy as possible for Spreaker users: in the near future you’ll need to have your RSS Feed secure to be submitted on Apple Podcasts. That’s why we have already made an update on our website which will allow Spreaker users to have their show’s RSS feed directly available as HTTPS. Below we explain how to make the changes.-What do I have to do?For podcasters who have not yet submitted to Apple Podcasts yet: you can already get the RSS Feed directly from the CMS or your Show page on the Website since it’s already been updated. It’s that easy.-For podcasters who are already submitting to Apple Podcasts: don’t worry for the time being, the HTTP feed is still working and we are in discussion with Apple to find the best solution for you. We’ll be in touch with more information regarding the transition as soon as we have an update.-Spreaker Feed Submissions to Spotify has resumed *Spotify submissions has resumed Weds (Today)We began submitting the backlog of the Spotify submissions, finally, using the Spotify APIWe’ll do it at a rate of 600 shows per hour (50 every 5 minutes are submitted), to process the full 4000 shows on PENDING state.- Kyle Wilcox wrote and sent us an audio comment: Hey, I think the discussion about making the custom Spreaker app a paid app in the Apple App Store was interesting. I wonder if you could also make the app free, and allow people to donate various amounts with in-app purchases. I think you could even do subscriptions that way. Here's my audio comment about this. Play Audio Comment Listener Comments & Questions:Joe BunzerellyI know this has been brought up before, but can we put the download button back on the embeddable player? The last time this was brought up i believe the answer was that only a small percentage of listeners downloaded as opposed to streaming. If that's the case, why not make it an option in the embeddable player, like many other features are. I just think it makes it more accessible to people who are new to podcast listening and afraid of using data. Obviously i try to steer them towards the podcast players, but I would still like an easier way to have them download straight from my webpage. I understand that i can make a download button, but if it was integrated into my webplayer, I can have the whole thing automate, and streamline my workload. Thanks!Linda IrwinI guess I will have to share manually since I closed the business page a couple of months ago as they messed up functionality of it to the point that people stopped following it.Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

SLS: Google & Spreaker Listening Apps
Spreaker Live Show #157 for June 20th, 2018Show Duration: 48 minutes-Host: Rob Greenlee, Head of Partnerships, Voxnest and Spreaker @robgreenlee - rob(at)voxnest(dotcom)-Co-Host: Alex Exum, Host of “The Exum Experience Podcast” on Spreaker-We stream LIVE every Weds at 3 Pacific /6pm EST from SpreakerLiveShow.com-You can now get the show on Google Podcasts App on Android-http://PodcastMovement.com is COMING FAST - Next month in Philly July 23-26Show Today:- Spreaker Podcast Radio App Gives You Full Episode Control- Google Releases Podcasts App to Android Users- We got some of your commentsOn the show today:- Keep Total Control of Episodes in Spreaker Podcast Radio for iOS/Android We’re always looking for new ways to give you the most intuitive user experience and control as possible. We’re pleased to announce that one of the most requested features has finally arrived; the ability to see which episodes you’ve already listened to and how many minutes you have left to hear on specific episodes. Our interface updates make it clear to see exactly where you were in a podcast series and episode.Well, whether you’re an Android user or on iOS, the visuals are extremely similarStay on Top of Your EpisodesIf you’re someone who starts listening to an episode and five minutes in realises you’ve already listened to it, this won’t be happening anymore! From now on a handy yellow tick will sit alongside an episode title when you’ve already listened to it and if you click on the episode you will be able to see the exact date you tuned in. -Always Finish What You StartWe’ve added in a line which tells you how many minutes you have left to listen to and instead of being completely yellow, a percentage of the circle will be filled which is in-line with how much you have left to listen to. The ability to switch episode order, playback speed and even set a sleep timer to automatically switch your podcast off if you’re known for drifting off ten minutes in to a show!-Reverse the order from front to backSpreaker Podcast Radio allows you to switch the episode order of any podcast from oldest to newest so that you can more accurately follow the narrative thread. You can listen to true crime podcast and audiobooks as they were meant to be experienced, from episode one, even if they’re already six episodes into the program. Reversing the episode order can be useful when listening to regular talk shows, too–follow your favorite host’s creative trajectory (and finally get all those inside jokes). You can reverse the episode order of any podcast from its Info section. -Think Podfaster, or PodslothingIn all these cases, manipulating the playback speed settings is the best option you’ve got.You can set the playback speed by going to the episode view, and under the seek bar tap on OPTIONS (that’s on iOS, anyway, on Android you can tap on the settings icon at the top right). Tap and drag the yellow dot to get to your preferred “podfaster” speed.-Sleep it offLastly, there’s the sleep timer, a great feature So, if you already have a feeling you’ll fall asleep in about five minutes, tap on “+5min.” To set it to fifteen minutes, you can tap on “+15min” or tap on “+5min” three times.-Google Releases Podcasts App to Android Users-Great Q & A from James at Podnews.net - https://podnews.net/article/google-podcasts-app-faqWhat is Google Podcasts? It's an in-built, simple, podcast player, pre-installed on every Google Play-enabled Android phones. That's essentially all of them.IT IS NOTHING TO DO WITH PODCASTS ON GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC.Why is it important?Android is the most popular mobile phone operating system in the world - it's used by over 80% of smartphone users. The Google Podcasts player is already installed on virtually every one.Is Google Podcasts available in my country?Yes. It is available worldwide.Where do my listeners download the app?Your listeners don't actually need to. Just add a direct link on your website to your podcast on Google Podcasts, and they'll be able to listen immediately, without having to download an app.But I really want to download the appYou can download the Google Podcasts app if you like. It's a tiny, 100k, icon which looks like any other app, and points to the app already installed on your phone. What is my podcast's direct link for Google Podcasts?Google has a tool to help you. Visit this page and type in your podcast's RSS feed. If it's listed, you'll get a link which, on an Android phone, takes you directly to your podcast's latest episodes. Here's ours. Your listener does not have to have the app installed - it will still play. How else can my listeners listen? They can just search for you in Google, and, on an Android phone, your podcast will appear in the search results, complete with play buttons that take you into the Google Podcasts app.How do I get a nice "Listen on Google Podcasts" badge or logo? You can download these straight from Google, here. They're in PNG or SVG format. They should be the same size as the Apple Podcasts button you probably already have.Should I link to Google Podcasts instead of Google Play?Yes, you absolutely should. Google Play has never contained podcasts outside of the US and Canada: and requires Google Play to be installed on the Android phone. Google Podcasts works across the world, and does not require any app to be installed. How do I know how many listens am I getting on Google Podcasts?Your podcast host can help you here: the regex of the user-agent is \b(GoogleChirp|GSA)\/ - GoogleChirp on Google Assistant, GSA on Android devices. (We list more podcast app user-agents).How do I know Google has listed my podcast?Use the direct link generator tool. How do I submit my podcast to Google Podcasts?Chances are you're already there - use the direct link generator tool. If you're not listed, Google have a set of guidelines to help you. They're technical, so you'll need to involve your web designer. We've written a simpler guide here.Does Google Podcasts do shownotes?Yes. But it uses the field, rather than ; and it irritatingly strips out all HTML formatting and links. What's the difference between Google Podcasts and having my podcast on Google Play Music? It's entirely different. Google Play Music isn't available anywhere outside the US and Canada, and requires a software download. Google has already said it's replacing Google Play Music with YouTube Music in time, so it's likely going to disappear.Does Google Podcasts cache the audio files? No. (Google Play did. Google Podcasts does not.)What else do I get as a podcaster? The front of the Google Podcasts app shows suggested podcasts based on a listener's previously-enjoyed episodes. Some of them show "Other podcasts by..." and link to every other podcast you've produced. There are trending podcasts based on listening habits and categories. It's designed to make listeners discover more new podcasts. Including yours.I'm a podcaster. What should I do now?Add your Google Podcasts direct link now on your website.Make sure it's the same size and prominence as your Apple Podcasts link. Nobody likes feeling second-best.Always promote your website. Never only link potential listeners to Apple Podcasts: for at least 50% of them, it's a useless link that doesn't go anywhere.Listener Comments & Questions:Joe BunzerellyHow do you go about taking episodes off of IHeartRadio ? I only ask because i accidentally published a live broadcast before i could edit it, and now i have an edited and unedited on IHeart. Also, is there anyway to update the show artwork on IHeart?Dave KanyanHey Rob. Question: You can disable comments on your show page in Spreaker? SLS: How To Use Your Voice to Keep Listeners
Spreaker Live Show #156 for June 6th, 2018Show Duration: 58 minutes-Host: Rob Greenlee, Head of Partnerships, Voxnest and Spreaker @robgreenlee - rob(at)voxnest(dotcom)-Co-Host: Alex Exum, Host of “The Exum Experience Podcast” on Spreaker-We stream LIVE every Weds at 3 Pacific /6pm EST from SpreakerLiveShow.com- I traveled to Lisbon, Portugal to give a two day podcasting workshop to journalists at a conference called the GENSummit.org - May 27-June 3Show Today:- Use Your Voice and Make People Listen- Apple Releases New Numbers on Scale of Podcasting- Spreaker Blog offers New Epic Podcast Stories- Podcasting Keeps Inching Towards Measurement StandardsI am back from traveling to Lisbon, Portugal to give a two day podcasting workshop to journalists at a conference called the GENSummit.org - May 27-June 3One key lesson is that Podcasting as a Medium is growing around the world and Spanish and other languages are important to the scale growth of the mediumOn the show today:- Learn to Use Your Voice and Make People ListenIf people in business realized how much power they have with their voices- The Power of VoiceVocal levels can be exciting or lull listeners to sleep. It’s just that simple. It is therefore essential for anyone to move beyond the “one level” in vocal components. In the world we live in, we are now trained to check out quite easily — the minute things don’t keep our attention. So several components become key to keep our audience’s attention. In my world, there are numerous qualities that make up a fantastic voice, but for the sake of this article, I want to talk about what I refer to as the Big 3: volume, speed, and pitch.1. Volume. Normally we speak at a moderate volume, and that’s great, but it can also be our death. In order to keep our audience’s attention, we need to alternate, at the appropriate times, loud and soft. 2. Speed. Most people speak at a moderate rate of speed. Speed variables are often related to different regions in the United States or world. The bottom line, no matter what your regular rate of speed is, you want to make sure you incorporate all three speeds, fast, slow, and moderate, into your speaking with the majority of your speech being moderate. The main reason for choosing moderate speed rather than fast is because it takes listeners a minute to catch up and “hear” what you said after the words come out of your mouth. If you talk too fast, people will give up trying to stay with you and will stop listening. If your rate of speed is too slow, your listeners will check out because they’re bored. Ideally, try doing a combination of moderate pace, fast pace, and slow pace. What you want to do is find the places in your speech, dialogue, pitch, presentation, or conversation where talking faster is more appropriate and where talking slower is best.3. PitchNow, pitch is a little more tricky, especially for men. The degrees of varying pitch do not need to be extreme, but if you can alternate or add in some low or high pitch, it will make your speaking voice sound more interesting. If your normal speaking voice is really high, you may consider adjusting your natural pitch to something a little more moderate. High pitches also can be annoying if they’re too high and have no variables. Low pitches, on the other hand, are not hard to listen to; in fact, most people really like them. Be careful, however, if you tend to speak in a low tone that you shake up your speaking with varying speed and volume.- Apple Releases New Numbers on Scale of PodcastingApple Podcasts currently hosts north of 550,000 active shows, a bump from the 525,000 the company reported back in April — that’s a considerable jump from the 3,000 programs it hosted when the program launched back in 2005,” reads the report. “The new numbers include 18.5 million individual episodes representing 155 countries, in more than 100 languages.”- Spreaker Blog offers New Epic Podcast Stories at blog.spreaker.comExtraordinary Women Explained; An Interview With Heroine PodcastQ&A Interviews covering the journey these shows went through to growThey are almost like White Paper examples of shows and the processhttp://blog.spreaker.com- Podcasting Keeps Inching Towards Measurement StandardsThe IAB standard creates this short-term pain because it addresses a problem that’s arisen as podcasting has grown into a mobile-dominated medium. If a user began streaming an episode, podcast apps such as Apple’s, which accounts for a majority of podcast consumption, would download the show in chunks, rather than all at once, and in many cases, the shows’ hosting platforms would record those requests as multiple downloads. That and other moves artificially inflated download counts across the industry, particularly for shows with longer episodes or higher bit rates.https://digiday.com/media/podcasting-keeps-inching-toward-measurement-standard/Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

This means that all users will be the owners of their online data and it is the controller’s (ours) obligation to make sure your rights are respected according to the Regulation. So, what does that mean for you when it comes to how Spreaker uses your data?We will only keep users’ personal data only if it is strictly necessary for accessing and using the platform.Grant a permanent removal – in case of account deletion – of all of your personal data on Spreaker (and its partners) within 30 days.Continue our daily work to protect and keep personal data secure – with particular attention with regards to children (there will be no data collection and platform access for persons under the age of 16 years old). How we will keep our transparency commitment to the community:Comments:Doug SalamoneCan you do I live show, but not have it save as an episode?Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

SLS: How To Enable Midroll Ads, Show Scheduling, Spotify Update
Spreaker Live Show #154 for May 9th, 2018Show Duration: 50 minutes-Host: Rob Greenlee, Head of Partnerships, Voxnest and Spreaker @robgreenlee - rob(at)voxnest(dotcom)-Co-Host: Alex Exum, Host of “The Exum Experience Podcast” on Spreaker-We stream LIVE every Weds at 3 Pacific /6pm EST from SpreakerLiveShow.com-Back from World Wide Radio Summit in LA - kinda podcasting panel in Hollywood-Back from PodSummit.com in Edmonton, Canada - was a great event - that event will grow next year-Next: I am traveling to Lisbon, Portugal to give a two day podcasting workshop to journalists at a conference called the GENSummit.org - May 27-June 3-You also may have noticed that my other podcast called NewMediaShow.com episodes sometimes get published to SLS feed and that is because my co-host is traveling and we can do the show live from anywhere. We normally do live video.Show Today:- We discuss Midroll Revenue available on Spreaker Now- We got some of your comments to discuss on this midroll topic today too- Get Ahead Of The Podcast Game With Spreaker’s New Episode Scheduling Features- Spotify Update - Delay in getting into Spotify continues, but will open again up soonOn the show today:- Mid-Rolls are available on Spreaker NOW - Get them while they are HOT!Visit your Ads Options area of your shows CMS area - select PRE,MID,POST optionsThen Set Max Ad Duration - 15, 30, 60 sec ?Then visit episodes below on the page and click on episodes - message seen “Mid-Rolls are only available on downloads and distribution platforms using your RSS Feed. They are not yet available on the Spreaker website and on the Embedded player”.Then select Cue Points/Insertion points in your show with wave form view.Be sure to signup for getting paid in Monetization button in left main columnWe got a midroll topic comment from Joe Bunzerelly of the Bunzerelly Show - https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-bunzerelly-show_2I may have a solution to a lot of what you guys were talking about as far as midroll is concerned. In the ad settings, i enabled pre-roll, you can also set it for no ads if you really don't want pre roll. Then, when i add a midroll to an episode, i select override pre roll and override midroll settings. That way, i don't have to address my back catalog until i'm ready, they'll just have pre-roll until i make the time to change them. Also, when i edit a new show, i make sure to edit in an extra little few seconds gap in the spot where i'm going to put the midroll, like when i start a new thought. Finally, a really cool trick, if you have a live read, or just want to make an affiliate commercial. You can do a hard commercial break, that way if the midroll isn't there (spotify) there's still your live read, so it doesn't sound weird. Also, its letting me have individual midroll points for each episode, so it doesn’t have to be the same time for each- Get Ahead Of The Podcast Game With Scheduling Features - Spreaker’s New Episode Scheduling FeaturesWe’ve made it possible to share episode links, schedule social sharing and embed episodes in your blog – all of which are unpublished and all well in advance. From now on, once you record and create your show you will have the opportunity to create a scheduled episode page for future episodes, informing your audience of when they can expect your next episode to be released. How far in advance can you go? More than two years! The holding page will show your podcast’s image and will state the exact time and date of when the episode will go live.Furthermore, by having access to your show’s link you will be able to share your unpublished episode with your audience, ahead of time, For example via e-mail or website. It will also allow you to programme your social media channels – offering you the chance to promote each episode to its maximum capability. Last but not least, you will also be able to insert unpublished episodes into your blog, giving you complete flexibility with how you want to promote upcoming episodes. We also want to make it as easy as possible for you. You’ll find your episode links and embedded codes by accessing your Content Management System on Spreaker’s homepage and then all you need to do is copy and paste them to your desired places and get promoting your podcast as much as possible!Happy scheduling!-Spotify Submissions Button is NOW in Spreaker CMS -Official Statement: Due to the overwhelming uptake in podcast consumption and podcasters submitting - that Spotify is going to be making some back end updates to better serve both groups. There may be some latency in publishing new feeds during this maintenance period lasting approximately four to six weeks. We are all hoping the pipeline for submitting show feeds to Spotify will open up again in early June, but we don’t know for sure if they will hit that time frame or not. I am hoping to get a representative from Spotify on the show soon to talk about Spotify PodcastsComments:Shelf AddictionI have a question about the mid-roll. Will you always get a mid-roll? For example, if you leave a purposeful spot for the mid-roll will it show up every time? Or sometimes it will sound odd because you just kind of prepared for a mid-roll ad and it's not there.Spreaker Live ShowAn ad may not always be included in your show, depends on advertiser campaign date range and insertion of impressions/downloads.Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

SLS: How to Promote Your Podcast, Midroll's are Live
Spreaker Live Show #153 for April 25th, 2018Show Duration: 76 minutesHost: Rob Greenlee, Head of Partnerships, Voxnest and Spreaker @robgreenlee - rob(at)voxnest(dotcom)Co-Host: Alex Exum, Host of “The Exum Experience Podcast” on SpreakerWe stream LIVE every Weds at 3 Pacific /6pm EST from SpreakerLiveShow.com- Then World Wide Radio Summit in LA May 2-4- 3rd of May - 2:30PM - 3:20PM: - PodSummit.com in Edmonton, Canada May 5th- http://PodSummit.com in Edmonton, Canada May 5thMid-Rolls are available on Spreaker NOW in CMS - Get them while they are HOT!Show Today:- Top 21 List: How to Promote Your Podcast- Spotify UpdateOn the show today:Top 21 List: How to Promote Your Podcast “Build it or record it and distribute it and they will come” approach is not working very well these days. Distribution is not enough, it get you to the starting line towards audience development, but much more to do.Even if your show art is great and the title is really catchy, it’s still swimming in a sea of many, many, many other audio fish. You are the unique difference with a little hard work!Podcasting comes with many demands on our time. Those of us that do it are preoccupied with worrying about how to monetize, checking our stats, editing our show, lining up guests to interview, writing for the next episode, keeping up with the industry itself, learning about new hardware and software, and trying to get ratings and reviews.Building a base of listeners is not easy!!!Here are 21 areas to think about and possibly apply to your show promotion and marketing.1. Get media interviewsBe sure to have a hook, though. Just being a podcaster and having what you think is a good show merely puts you in line with the other creators who are contributing to that 400 thousand number above. Give the host and/or producer a reason why they should interview you (and not the other podcasters).2. Post media coverage on your website I devote an entire section of your website to showcase where I’ve been interviewed. 3. Posting Audio Episodes to YOUTUBE with Video Content TooPosting on YouTube gets you on the second largest search engine in the world, and thus a chance to be found by folks who might otherwise not come across you and your show. 4. Have a business card just for your showPress the flesh with a show card, because expecting people to remember that you have a podcast, what it’s called, and where to find it is not only asking a lot, but it’s a missed (branding) opportunity. At the least have a website address on there, but consider having your name, number, and email address as well.5. Email signatureMine is loaded, from the URL to icons for the platforms where my podcast can be found to social media.6. E-newsletterMine goes out once a week – on the day that my podcast comes out. You have total control over the content, the length, and the frequency. Thanks to my Web developer, I don’t even use a paid service. But regardless of how you send yours out, just do something. In this day and age of our email inboxes being on the receiving end of newsletters from others, make sure you are active as a sender too.7. Public speaking and guesting on other podcasts or radio showsBecome considered an expert in your podcast show genre and work to build reputation as an industry speaker at conference events, put on workshops. Put on your your show website that you can be booked to speak on a variety of topics related to your podcast topics. Get feature at podcasting events. But think local too.9. Social mediaYes,you should be promoting on social media, but not just on social media. Have one account dedicated solely to your podcast. Instagram. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn about my podcast, but put other posts related to your podcast/business on those platforms too.On Instagram, post something every day of the week. Pull from show notes, pull out a great quote from guest or commentary, create an image for it on Canva, and voila, you have an Instagram post.10. Podcast Award nominations or WinningThese expose your show to not only the other nominees but to voters and readers who scan the list to see what podcasts are competing for a certain award. Before you know it they’re checking you out to hear why your show is a contender.11. Provide a roadmap for your guests or co-hosts to promoteEmail the guest to let them know that the interview is out, the various links they can choose from to promote to their followers, and your social media handles that you’d like them to tag in their posts. There is a greater likelihood of them putting something up if you give them suggested text than if you just say, “Thanks again. I hope you like it.” You might even get new social media followers of your own!12. Network with other genre compatible interest groupsBe respectful on FB Groups and Google Groups. Before you know it, now they are promoting your episode for you!13. Cross promote, cross promote, and then cross promoteOn website/blog and any relationships with content creators who which you can share written or audio content with to build win-win audience growing relationships.14. Create and Distribute and eBook on your topic genreIt can work to re-purpose content from the podcast to fill the eBook – include links throughout so that readers can click to go and hear the interview that what they’re reading to hear deeping conversations on that topic. eBooks can be a convenient workbook outline for audio listeners.15. Refer to past episodes of your podcast“Wow, I’m glad you brought that up. That’s a lot like what I talked about with (guest’s name) back on Episode (number). Say, if you never heard that episode, go back and listen to my interview with (guest’s name).16. Do a “Best Of” episodeCompile in one episode – a number of past podcasts you put out, in such a way that the listener will want to go hear other episodes that you’ve put out. 17. Contact constituents who were mentioned in your podcastLet them know they have been mentioned on your show and ask them to share it, if the coverage was positive.18. Record on-location When I do an interview on-site. Can use branded mic flags to promote my podcast during Live or recorded session..19. Ask someone you know to listen and provide feedbackGet some honest feedback from listeners 20. Give a number for listeners to call21. Decide on your goals, production style (show outline) and and plan a topic schedule, but be flexible as you might start off in one direction and then move to another that works better2. Decide on main host, then find a partner/co-host (who you like) or go solo - CongressionalDish.com or Perspectives with Ashley Berges are great examples of solo shows3. Get a quality microphone and editing software or Spreaker Studio software is free4. Choose your podcast hosting home, website - wordpress or just hosting show page5. Produce short promo episode, post it then get your RSS distribution, then launch full episode on a future launch date - 3 Reasons Why You Start A Podcast If You’re A Marketer1. Podcasts are adaptable contentPodcasts can be listened to anywhere and anytime. How people consume content is changing, people are watching less TV and switching to online platforms and most people don’t have time to read articles, meaning it’s getting harder and harder to reach potential customers. Like most audio content, podcasts are quick and easy to consume, but what further sets them apart is that they don’t require undivided attention.2. You Can Sway Your Consumers DecisionsThis idea is that podcasters can ‘build a bond of trust through analysis, insight, and storytelling3. You Can Create Timeless ContentPodcasts aren’t a one-time creation; once you’ve recorded them, they’ll be available from your channel, indefinitely. In that way, they have a similar shelf life to evergreen content—so long as you’re choosing topics with an intent to last.’- Spotify Submissions Update Second submission list has been sent to SpotifyNew submission process is coming to Spreaker CMS over the next few weeks- https://help.spreaker.com/kb/sharing-and-distribution/distributing-your-podcast-on-spotifyMeantime submissions come to me and then I add them to a spreadsheet then send to Spotify once a week. me - [email protected] or [email protected] Comments:Kyle Wilcox sent us an audio comment on Spreaker Search - play clipGolden Spiral MediaWe love you for being a "Spotify Employee" Rob! SLS: Targeting Podcast Categories, Spotify Update
Spreaker Live Show #149 for March 7th, 2018Show Duration: 44 minutesHost: Rob Greenlee, Head of Partnerships, https://Voxnest.com and https://Spreaker.com @robgreenlee - rob(at)voxnest(dotcom)Co-Host: Alex Exum, Host of “The Exum Experience Podcast” on SpreakerWe stream LIVE every Weds at 3 Pacific /6pm EST from SpreakerLiveShow.comCorrection: Rob misspoke in last weeks show about our support of Apple’s new “Episodic” and “Series” numbering - Spreaker does fully support it, but I really dislike the Apple spec for it and how it displays the numbering, does not make logical sense to me, given history of the medium.Numbering from 1 (newest episode) to let’s say 151 (oldest episode), may seem right on the surface, but showing 151 as newest and 1 as oldest makes better sense as it has always been done like that in podcasting.Show Today:- Is Podcast Category Targeting Important?- Podcasting Stories, Challenges and Opportunities of the week- Spotify Submissions Update- Listener CommentsIs Podcast Category Targeting Important?I tracked Apple’s Top 200 Podcasts for an entire year.
