We're bodies steeping in stories
So there’s this local tea & coffee shop where a weird reflective voice actor tends to hang out. Grab a cup! Everyone's welcome at this table. Today we’re talking bodies and connection. “You know your body best. I trust your body.” How do we find ways to choose, change, and create environments where we want to steep? We are the authorities of our own bodies! That includes anatomy (sound, air, vibration, breath) and giving ourselves grace on low-capacity days (especially when we’re the household cook). Sarah also talks you through their/her physicality process while voicing characters: Alien Doll Henchwoman Mom you love to hate Muppet Meditation guide Girl who loves ponies Additional stuff: Breath exercise options ~ in • out | in • out • pause | in • pause • out | in • pause • out • pause Song mention ~ “Unbecome” I am the Imperatrix Roz in Monsters Inc was voiced by Bob Peterson The 8 senses (because even though I let the memory lapse go I HAD to go look it up later) ~ visual (sight), auditory (hearing), olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste), tactile (touch), proprioception, interoception, vestibular My episodes tend to be rated E because I cuss ;-) Show Notes If you enjoyed this episode and you’d like to help support the podcast, please subscribe and leave a rating and review, or share the link with a friend. We’re just big kids with cookies
You wander into your local tea & coffee shop...and find Sarah, a weird and reflective voice actor. Grab a cup! Everyone's welcome at her table. Today the gab topic is childhood. Oooo there'll be rants about a culture that doesn't value children, parentification, dealing with aging parents (and overcooked broccoli). We'll talk about nostalgia, curiosity (shoutout to Neil deGrasse Tyson), child psychology and neuroscience, whimsical easy bake covens, and of course chocolate chip cookies. I believe in a renaissance (and pizza)
Steep a strong cup today! There are tears and deep breaths. We're talking about repair, connection, trusting ourselves, and breaking free from generational communication expectations. "I have to believe there is something after the rupture." I'll gripe about that one relative who hogs the room at a family dinner and how noisy humans are. I'll share a few weekly family traditions that began in 2020, pizza tips and shortcuts, and a key turning point in my life. "As we look inside to ourselves, in those sparkles of electricity, there are sparks of joy. There are things we might have forgotten that light us up, that bring us hope, that make us want to play and experiment. And I truly believe that within those things are the answers that we're seeking for our world." The End OUTTAKE: An Emotional Processing Moment
This is me in a deeply emotional moment while recording episode 10. It's an audio of me crying and utilizing my breath to regulate in a moment of overwhelm. As I was listening back to and editing the episode, I decided this audio needed to be shared in its own file. A year ago, I might not have been brave enough to share for fear of seeming weak and imperfect and messy and human. But I'm proud now. What a remarkable thing that I can witness myself feeling super intense things and processing it and getting through it. I always love watching and listening to outtakes. It shows how raw and real the creative process is. In episode 10, we reflect on the arc of our season of sound, science, and storytelling; how we begin, how we build, and how we let go. We talk about endings and what they offer us: closure, integration, gratitude, expansion, movement, and transformation.

The End OUTTAKE: A Silly Booth Warmup Moment
I always love watching bloopers and outtakes. And listening to them. It shows how raw and real the creative process is. This is me doing some of my warmups before recording episode 10! A silly funny way to get out of my head, into my body, and engaged in the moment. In episode 10, we reflect on the arc of our season of sound, science, and storytelling; how we begin, how we build, and how we let go. We talk about endings and what they offer us: closure, integration, gratitude, expansion, movement, and transformation.

Page to Ecosystem: What We Lose When We Streamline & Standardize Stories
Welcome back to Steeped in Storytelling. I’m voiceover artist Sarah DeLong, and I love weaving connections between art and science. Today we’re venturing into the tangled garden of narrative ecosystems—how stories live, grow, cross-pollinate, and what happens when we start pruning for profit, predictability, or ease. Stories as Shelter: Cozy Fiction & Sensory Joy
Welcome back to Steeped in Storytelling, where each episode we reflect on the beauty of interweaving story, science, and sound. I’m your host, voiceover artist Sarah DeLong. I come to the mic with experience as an integrative somatic facilitator (a mindfulness guide with training in anatomy, neuroscience, and cultural somatics), a public librarian (no, I didn’t get time to read at work—unless you count storytime), and, for a brief time, a chef. This episode we’re letting ourselves get cozy. We’re tucking in with tales that comfort, voices that soothe, and stories that offer shelter. And no, not every cozy story has to involve a kitchen; sometimes comfort sounds like building spreadsheets in a blanket fort or hexing your ex in a mossy cave. Today’s brew: a hot, spiced, freshly-pressed apple cider with ginger, cinnamon, and maybe a bit of bourbon. It’s up to you. The Science of Storytime: Why Kids Need Narratives
In this episode, we’re leaning into the magic of storytime, not just as entertainment, but as essential nourishment for growing brains, bodies, and bonds. We’ll explore how stories shape development, offer regulation, and plant the seeds of identity. We’ll read a bit, play a bit, and remember the power of voices that wrapped us in safety.
