I’m Steve and I’m Hannah. Today we’re talking about ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle is a combination of setting goals, sticking with them, staying motivated, and eating healthy. Healthy lifestyles also consist of having a healthy mindset. It is important to remember to keep a healthy balance in all aspects of your life. Keeping yourself healthy doesn’t only help yourself but it also helps those around you. Fitness Instructor Lisa Lundrigan touches on the effect that healthy lifestyles has on others. Once you’ve made the commitment to live a healthier life it tends to grow to be slightly easier because it becomes more of a habit. To make sure you are keeping your body at its best you should always remember to continue to challenge yourself. Try new things. Try things you never thought you could do when you first began this journey. Mixing it up and testing your body’s limits will not only help make you healthier, it will add to your motivation and show how far you’ve come since starting the journey. This is the final episode for TalkingFit. We hope you all enjoyed and continue to further your fitness journey. Total Episodes: 003 Length: 08:27:00 Hosts: Steve Alberts & Hannah Flattery Content: Fitness Segment Topics: Week 2: Staying Motivated Hi everybody and welcome to TalkingFit a show about health and fitness. I’m Steve and I’m Hannah. Today we’re talking about eating your way to health. You’ve probably heard the saying that food should nourish your body and your soul. Well that’s what eating clean is all about—feeding your body nutritious foods it needs. A diet full of whole grains like oatmeal and healthy fats like avocados is what you should strive for. The Harvard School for Public Health says eating whole grains can lower your cardio vascular risk by 15%. The journal of the American Heart Association says that avocados can lower your cholesterol. So the next time you go to the grocery store don’t forget to pick-up some avocados and oatmeal. Nutritionists also say you should eat a colorful diet of fruits and veggies. Think of a rainbow red, orange, yellow green blue and purple. If you Google the rainbow diet you’ll find an extensive list. This is a great way to get all of the nutrition you need, as well as making your meals exciting and delicious all at the same time. When you start to eat healthier it can be hard to cut back on everything. The way to be successful is not just watch what you eat but how much. Another important tip is drinking water throughout the day. Keasel Broome is a professional soccer player with the San Jose earthquakes. He suggests drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you want an eating program that works for the long run, you'll need a lifestyle you can live with and like. That means a diet that's nutritious and delicious. Staying lean is a big part of good health. Just remember to eat a variety of healthy foods and drink more water. Coming up next week it’s our final TalkingFit show, we’ll talk living a healthy lifestyle. Total Episodes: 002 Length: 11:48:00 ________________________________________ Hosts: Steve Alberts & Hannah Flattery ________________________________________ Content: Fitness ________________________________________ Segment Topics: Week 2: Staying Motivated Hi everybody and welcome to TalkingFit a show about health and fitness. Today we’re talking motivation. Being motivated can be tough even under the best circumstances. There’s no magic bullet or little purple pill. Research shows 46% of us quit a new workout program within the first six months. (http://www.statisticbrain.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/). We started thinking what would make people quit. We came up with our own list and by no means is it scientific. Here are some reasons why people may quit working out: • Lack of time—we live busy lifestyles with work school and family • No easy access to a gym or trail/ too far • Body image • Lack of support • Not knowing what to do So how do you boost your motivation when working out? James Parker-Ashley, a personal trainer says one way is to tell other people about your goal. This helps with accountability. He adds another way is to have a serious financial stake in the outcome. The Mayo Clinic offers 7 tips for staying motivated: 1. Set goals 2. Make it fun 3. Make physical activity part of your daily routine 4. Write it down: 5. Get a fitness buddy 6. Reward yourself 7. Be Flexible Coming up next week on TalkingFit, we’ll have tips on eating healthy.
