    625. We Forgot Everything

Are we old now? Because we can’t remember anything anymore. Maybe it’s because of our hormones, or maybe it’s early-onset dementia, or maybe (okay, almost definitely) it’s due to our algorithm-trained brains forgetting how to focus on anything for more than 1.7 seconds. No matter the true cause, we feel stupid and we hate it. Ep. 624: Pick-Me Behavior

Nobody likes a girl who hates on other girls, especially for the benefit of men. Once upon a time, when we were younger, we would brag about how we “weren’t like other girls,” but now we know better. Our female friendships have saved us from our darkest moments, and we’d be honored to be exactly like other women. Femininity isn’t a weakness—it’s strength to find beauty and connection even in the darkest times. We don’t hate the “pick-me” girls out there, but we do feel kind of embarrassed for them. The Bird Life [1:20]Pick-me behavior [4:56]Taking up a misogynist narrative [7:57]Our female friendships have saved us [9:19]Seeing femininity as weakness [11:29]Internalized self-hatred [13:42]Finding an appreciation for beauty [16:40]Gaining maturity [21:41]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 623: We Create What We Consume

Our algorithms feed us the things we consume the most, and unfortunately for us, we love looking at memes about men being evil. But as funny as the people of the internet are, we do want to be mindful of what we’re consuming because what consumer colors our perception of the world—and believe it or not, we don’t actually hate men. But the same thing is true for memes about being broke, fat, ugly, or any other negative thing we could call ourselves. If we take too much of it in, it starts to become our reality, and that’s not the Best Life we dreamed for ourselves, all those years ago.In the new studio [0:59]The importance of meeting your neighbors [3:08]You create what you consume [6:04]Relating to a reality you don’t want [9:06]It’s hard to look away from a train-wreck [12:22]We all need higher standards [13:51]Making peace with being alone [15:42]Don’t let things outside your control ruin your life [18:13]When are we crossing into delusion? Ep. 622: Are Men More Emotional Than Women?

No one is more dramatic than a man who gets his advances rejected. We don’t mean to speak for every woman, but also… we’re pretty sure every single woman has either had an experience where a man lashed out at her for saying no, or she had to lie instead of saying no out of fear of backlash. We’ve heard men complain that they “can’t even approach women in public anymore” but we have no problem with being approached! The issue is that men just don’t seem to be able to take “no” for an answer. Our advice to men? Just be normal. Please, for the love of god, just be fucking normal. Jill’s big move [1:54]Long drives and nights in the hot tub [5:25]No one is more emotional than a man who gets rejected [8:34]When someone says no, walk away [15:35]Saying yes out of fear of what comes after the no [17:33]Just be normal [24:59]It doesn’t have to be personal [29:37]Just be a bitch [32:25]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 621: The Logistics of a Break Up

Break ups are hard enough as it is, but the longer you’re with someone, the more of a logistical mess it is to end your relationship. There are finances, housing, and even family members to consider as you separate your lives—but none of those are good reasons to stay if your heart is already telling you to go. We won’t lie to you, Bestie, it’s going to be hard. You just have to trust yourself to handle the hard stuff one day at a time, and know that you deserve happiness and peace… and sometimes the quickest way there is through the messy middle. Why is everything so damn expensive? Ep. 620: The Single Tax

Being in love is great and all, but the real benefit to being in a relationship is the opportunity to split costs. It’s ridiculously expensive just to be alive, which leaves single people unfairly disadvantaged—they have to take care of everything on their own. And it’s not just the financial burden you face when you’re single, there are social struggles, too. While everyone else has a person to celebrate the ups with and get support from during the downs, you have to ride the waves mostly on your own. We think it’s time to start sending a little more support to your single friends… and maybe a few hundred bucks, while you’re at it.An awful first date [2:13]Everything costs more when you’re single [8:28]Making time to celebrate your people [12:34]No where is left that’s affordable [14:21]The older generations aren’t keeping up with the times [18:36]Wanting to celebrate with someone [20:28]You have to allow people to show up for you [24:16]Thoughts on divorce registries [24:52]Starting from scratch costs an arm and a leg [27:28]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 619: Can We Force Our Partners to Go to Therapy?

We all probably agree that men, as a group, need to be going to therapy. But when it comes to your individual man… is it okay to demand that they go? We know firsthand exactly how therapy can make relationships better so of course we’d want our partners to try it out, but therapy still carries a lot of stigma, especially to men. We can try to lead them to therapy, but there’s no good outcome when forcing it, so your best bet is to draw your line in the sand, and be willing to let the chips fall, even if it means walking away. You deserve a partner who values you, Bestie.Danny’s new bangs [0:51]Asking your partner to go to therapy [3:38]Continuing to de-stigmatize therapy [5:48]Know what your goal is [8:25]A you issue, a me issue, or a we issue [10:58]“Fix this or I’m leaving” [13:13]Being honest about your line in the sand [15:32]No one wants a mother-child dynamic [18:22]Easier said than done [20:43]You can’t always control the outcome [24:41]Men struggle understanding their feelings [27:04]Walking away with self respect [33:13]Being aware of someone’s capacity [34:20]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 618: Dating Someone With Children

We’ve chosen not to have children of our own, but would we date a man with kids? Becoming a step-parent is no joke—it’s a lot of responsibility, often with very little credit, and you’ll rarely, if ever, be the priority in your partner’s life. All of that goes double if the kids in question are under age 10, too. There’s a special place in heaven for people willing to take that on, but at this point, it ain’t gonna be us. Dating someone who has kids [1:47]Being a step-parent is rough [4:57]A different level of responsibility [7:48]Looking for red flags [11:07]What’s Danny’s type now? Ep. 617: Navigating Friendship Breakups

We’ve been friends for a decade now and we’re not at all the same people we were when we met. Luckily, we’ve grown together, but not every friendship is so lucky. Sometimes we travel in an entirely different direction from our loved ones and it makes maintaining a relationship tricky, and sometimes that growing apart leads to a friendship breakup. Whether you slowly go ghost or have “the talk” is ultimately up to you, but we always advocate for leaving things open—you’ve grown apart now, but you could always grow back together in the future.Hyrox and leaving Vegas [2:06]Outgrowing a friend [10:16]Letting the friendship fade away slowly [12:44]People change over time [15:26]Asymmetrical friendships [16:57]Be ready to let the chips fall [20:26]Let the friendship evolve [24:40]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 616: Your Cringe Archive

When’s the last time you looked into your cringe archive? Everyone who has a personal brand has to go through some less than perfect posts before they get better—it’s a rite of passage. Too many people quit before they even begin because they’re too embarrassed to be seen posting something “cringe,” but you have to be willing to be cringe if you want to be seen and to make a difference. We’ve all been cringe at one point or another… Hell, we’re *still* cringe, but we show up and share our lives, and that’s what really matters to us.Danny J’s name change [0:56]A marriage mishap [5:33]Your cringe archive [9:13]Cringe just keeps happening [12:16]The phone followed us everywhere in 2017 [13:24]Cringe is most cringe-worthy to ourselves [17:12]You have to start in order to get better [19:50]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 615: Selling Courses About Selling Courses About Selling Courses

Have you ever seen a course being sold by someone who teaches you how to sell courses about building courses? We love the internet business space and we think there’s so much good shit out there you can learn, but unfortunately for as many honest and hard working entrepreneurs there are, there are even more scammers, grifters, and snake oil salespeople. Sure, you can make a great living online, but it’s never been as simple as just “make a course and then sell tons of units,” as much as we’d like it to be. Selling courses, building an online business, and developing a personal brand is tough work, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. Or trying to sell you something. Most likely, they’re lying in order to sell you something. Selling courses about selling courses [3:49]If it was that simple, everyone would do it [6:50]It lacks integrity [10:22]A course on how to make money on OnlyFans [12:22]Not everyone can have the same level of success [15:14]We attract who we are [18:29]The beginnings of a pyramid scheme [21:02]Do the ends always justify the means? Ep. 614: Pretty Girls Make More Money

We know pretty-privilege exists, but is there another layer we haven’t been paying attention to? Some studies show that women who wear makeup make more money than their female counterparts that don’t. We’ve definitely noticed how much better people treat us when we look good—we do still live in a patriarchal society, after all—but is it worth it to start investing more money into your Sephora budget in order to get a raise at work? Ep. 613: Asking Your Partner's Permission

Look, we’re not into asking permission from our partners to do anything, but there’s something to be said about being mindful of how they feel. Your partner’s feelings should (hopefully!) matter as much as your own, and if you can make them feel loved and cared about, why wouldn’t you? Ep. 612: Not All Men, But...

Not all men are evil monsters, but whenever we have a troll insulting our age or appearance… well, it’s always a man. Maybe it’s just because we have such incredible men in our lives, but it seems like the men of the internet are always bitter and rude, and it’s kind of breaking our hearts. We want to believe the best in men, but they’re making it really hard. Ep. 611: The Value of Community and Connection

As we get older, we find ourselves looking back on our happiest memories and noticing that what makes them happy isn’t what we’re doing, but the people we’re with. Life can get monotonous, bogged down with the million-and-one little things we have to do to keep our lives running. That’s why it’s so important to keep in touch with loved ones—because without a community to share them with, our lives could pass us by. Ep. 610: The Politics of Liking A Post

Somewhere along the way, liking (or not liking) someone’s instagram posts has become an act of politics. We like the things we stand for—or at the very least, the things we want to be seen caring about. So when someone you care about doesn’t give your post that double tap, it feels vindictive. But then again, isn’t it possible someone just didn’t see it? In any case, if you cared about us at all, you’d like our posts. Ep. 609: What We're Cutting, and What We're Keeping This Year

It’s a brand new year, so now is the perfect time to think about what we want the next 365 days of our lives to look like. Things feel fresh and we’re finding ourselves craving some routine, so for this episode we did something we hardly ever do—we thought about what we were going to talk about ahead of time. So today, we’re sharing all of our “in’s” and “out’s” for 2026. Ep. 608: Influence Isn't Important Anymore

As we get deeper and deeper into our 40’s, we’re finding ourselves less impressed with whatever everyone else is up to. Flashy lives and high follower accounts feel kind of meaningless and we’re happy to watch the next generation make all the same mistakes we did and care about all the things we used to. Having a million followers doesn’t mean you have a million dollars, and having a million dollars doesn’t mean you’re even happy. Life is shitty to us in one way or another, no matter who we are or what we try to do to prevent it. It is, however, our choice on what to do about the shittiness. Blaming others, giving up, or leaving weird hate comments on Facebook isn’t going to make the pain of our pasts go away, so we have to own them and heal them in whatever ways we can. Maybe that looks like going to therapy, maybe it looks like doing ayahuasca in the jungle, or maybe it looks like getting plastic surgery in Vietnam. We’ve tried all three, Besties! The method doesn’t matter, just as long as we learn to accept what is and let things go when it’s time. Our hair journeys [0:58]Danny J’s psychic reading [7:13]Why are Facebook comments so nasty? Ep. 605: Quiet-Quitting Your Marriage

We’ve heard of quiet-quitting when it comes to work, but what about quiet-quitting your relationship?—not really leaving, but not putting in any effort beyond the bare minimum either. We saw something recently that claimed many women over 40 are quiet-quitting their marriages. Nothing good comes out of apathy or resentment, and it seems to us that this is where the seeds of infidelity get sewn. We’d be the first to tell you that marriage isn’t always sunshine and roses, but the way we see it, if you’re unhappy you should try to do what you can to make it work, and if it ain’t working then don’t hold someone else captive to your unhappiness. Life is going to suck in any situation, so might as well make the most of it, rather than staying put in a situation you hate.Bullshit holiday sales [0:48]Facebook Marketplace addiction [5:02]Gamifying purchases [9:05]A gown but no place to wear it [10:46]Date number 3 [13:12]Quiet-quitting your marriage [17:17]The beginnings of infidelity [19:35]Married people on dating apps [21:28]How hormones affect our feelings [25:10]Choosing unhappiness over uncertainty [28:00]Choose your hard [31:21]Making the best of any situation [37:50]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 604: Navigating Holiday Arguments

The holidays are around the corner and with visiting family inevitably comes arguing with your weird uncle about some insane thing happening in the news. There’s a time and place for walking away from discussions about politics—we can recommend this action highly—but maybe there’s a time for you to engage, too. All of us are more alike than we are different, and when we lead with curiosity and truly listen to others, finding common ground (and peace!) is possible, too. Ep. 603: Life Is Too Short Not To Celebrate

Today, Jill and Danny dive into everything from TikTok earworms and the chaos of keeping up with new platforms to Danny’s new “50 First Dates With Myself” challenge that has completely reignited her creativity and joy on social media. Danny shares how the idea was born, her experience returning to TikTok after years away, and how her first official date set the tone for a year of intentional, elevated solo experiences. Planning meaningful dates matters in both single life and long-term relationships, and when you raise your standards with yourself, they naturally raise for what you expect from others. That’s why carving out novelty, play, and effort is essential for feeling alive—in love, in life, and in how you show up for yourself.Getting back on TikTok [2:17]What people think of Danny’s 50 first dates [4:19]The first few dates [8:30]Raising the standard for yourself [12:27]Life is too short not to celebrate [14:05]Breaking out of routine [17:21]Exploring a creative side [19:33]Something to get excited about [22:43]Making content doesn’t have to be complicated [26:07]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Last week we talked about Jill’s big news, so this week we wanted to share Danny’s: she’s dating again! Except there’s one big catch—Danny is dating herself. No more waiting around for a man to go try new foods or do fun things, she’s going to take herself. And it’s not just doing activities alone, she’s dating herself with intentionality and presence. Our girl Jill is married! For our OG Besties, you know what a wild ride it’s been—we started this podcast before Jill even met her now husband. Ep. 600: Replacing Human Relationships with AI Bots

There are some studies coming out that show young people—especially boys—are turning more and more towards AI for relationships instead of their peers. Yikes. Me are already lonely, and we think it has a lot to do with porn, technology, and social conditioning. If they’re outsourcing companionship to AI bots, it seems like it can only go down from here. Ep. 599: Boss Babes vs. Trad Wives

It’s somehow the era of the Trad Wife—at least on Threads and Twitter—and it seems like all the former Boss Babes are hanging up their blazers and turning them in for aprons. But does it really have to be just one or the other? We want to live soft lives, too, but we love working and getting shit done! As we get older, we want to look and feel good for ourselves, but we kind of want to look good for our partners too! Men can be annoying as hell for sure, but men as a whole are not the same thing as the individual men in our lives, and that includes our partners. It’s not a crime to want to look hot for your significant other! Our value systems are deeply personal and influence almost everything we do in our lives. We all have core values, whether they’re obvious to us or not. Getting clear on what our values are can help us find direction in work, play, love, and life. It’s often said that you teach people how to treat you, and with a defined set of values, you get to set the tone for your interactions and future choices. Ep. 592: Hating the Same Things

Apparently, hating the same things is the mark of a great friendship. It makes sense—misery does love company. There’s something so freeing about getting to be the worst version of yourself in front of your friends and not only to be accepted, but for your base-level feelings to be validated. Life will always be full of some holier-than-thou-Kathys who “hate” gossip and find it “beneath” them, but Kathy is a bitch anyways and we have so much more fun hating her pretentious ass than she could ever imagine. Ep. 590: You Did This To Yourself

We’ve lived enough life by now to know that shame is never helpful. Sometimes when bad things happen to us as a result of our choices, some asshole hits us with the, “well, you did this to yourself.” No shit, Sherlock. Just because our choices led to less than desirable outcomes, doesn’t mean we can’t feel bad about it. Shaming anyone for the things they did or didn’t do won’t rewrite the past, and it certainly doesn’t make them feel better. Shaming someone like that only makes them hate you. Ep. 586: Relationships and Cheating in the Digital Age

Modern life is just way too overstimulating. There’s more news flooding our feeds before we can even come to terms with what we’ve already seen and now we’re hearing things about people falling in love with their AIs? Between robot girlfriends and the now-infamous Coldplay Concert Cheating scandal, we feel more confused than ever about how to handle relationships in the digital age. Maybe we should just change our names, delete all our social media accounts, and disappear off-grid forever.Disappearing from the internet [3:24]Some wedding planning updates [6:26]Falling in love with an AI [8:41]A collective meme-ing of the Coldplay concert [12:07]A different perspective on finding out about infidelity [17:21]Hindsight is 20/20 [18:52]An adventure in Mexico [23:56]Getting a dog on an airplane [28:44]The government won’t make it easy [35:25]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 585: The Real Reason Birth Rates Are Declining

Have you noticed an increase in discourse about why (or why not) birth rates are declining in America? We see a lot of blame directed towards women—things like, “women are too superficial” or “women aren’t willing to make sacrifices” or “women won’t date broke men.” Whatever the reason is, it’s a whole lot of bullshit and not a whole lot of men taking responsibility. The idea that women are gold-diggers is tired and frankly, untrue. What women really want is careers, flexibility and time to pursue hobbies, and male partners that don’t treat us like shit. Maybe the real reason women don’t want to have kids is because men aren’t interested in being good dads. But what do we know? We’re just a couple of dried up gold-diggers, right?Old fears brought up by big commitment [3:42]“Radical monogamy” [8:09]Do women only like men with money? Ep. 584: Who the Fuck Wants to Live Forever?

The wellness industry needs to chill the fuck out. Everyone wants to live forever, but we haven’t heard any good reasons why we would want to. Look, we aren’t advocating for eating horribly, quitting exercise, doing hard drugs, or any other “unhealthy” choices but giving up every fun activity in life in hopes for a few more years seems like a major fucking bummer. We want long and healthy lives, yes, but not if that means living without any of the little things that make us happy. There’s only so much you can sacrifice in hopes of a longer life before it starts reducing the quality of your time. Our Best Life means finding a balance in it all. What the fuck is wrong with men? Ep. 583: How Long Does It Take to Heal?

Does grief have a timeline? Is there a statute of limitations on how long you’re allowed to hurt? We’ve been through our fair share of shitty situations, and have come to understand that grief and healing aren’t linear, nor are they predictable. The saying that “time heals all wounds” is only half the truth, and unless you’re intentionally working on your healing, all time will do is pass. And even when it does pass, there doesn’t seem to be a prescribed time for healing. For some, it’ll be within months, for others it may be years. We’re all on our own journeys, and it’ll take as long as it takes. What is the timeline for grief? Ep. 582: Sharing Personal Stories on Public Platforms

There’s this funny thing about being a creator on the internet—strangers think they know you. And while we post the things we post with connection in mind, there are always a few… oddballs (to put it nicely) who take things too far and act like they know us, when they really don’t. We absolutely overshare on the internet, and especially on this podcast, but for as much as we do share, there are so many pieces of personal information that we keep behind closed doors. Para-social relationships are bound to happen when you’re as public as we are. Ep. 581: Loving the Idea of Someone

Have you ever loved the idea of what someone *could* be, more than the person that they actually are? There’s danger in falling in love with someone’s potential. Some people are happy to be challenged by their partners, but there’s a fine line between challenging them to reach their dreams and setting expectations that your partner can’t reach, or never wanted in the first place. You’ll find a lot more peace in letting your partner tell you who they want to be, rather than attempting to force them into being who you wish they were.(This episode is a re-run from September 2023.)Falling in love with someone’s potential [1:55]Putting expectations on how your partner lives their life [3:26]Listen to your partner’s dreams [6:15]Can you be okay if your partner never changes? Ep. 580: Is There A Moral Obligation to Watch the News?

Instagram is rolling out a new feature that defaults to keeping news and political content off of our feeds, and it got us thinking, is it irresponsible to ignore current events? Unfortunately, many news sources are produced with biases, headlines are manufactured to outrage rather than inform, and falsified information is getting harder and harder to differentiate from what’s “real.” And not only that, but after years of getting everything from social media algorithms, we’re all primed to see and hear things we already agree with. Maybe it’s just us, but the “news” doesn’t feel like the news anymore. Is it just us?The “news” isn’t the news anymore [3:10]Manufactured outrage [6:12]People look for things we agree with [7:59]Stories can spiral out of control [11:46]We need stronger critical thinking skills [14:38]There’s just “too much” to keep up with [19:29]Voting without keeping up with current events [22:44]Borrowed information [24:35]How do we know what’s true and what’s real? 579: Conversations on Money and Marriage

No one goes in to a marriage hoping that it’ll fail, but statistics don’t lie, and around half of all marriages end in divorce. With those odds, wouldn’t you want to be protected? Conversations around money and obligation can be uncomfortable, but they’re so important to have before long-term commitment. Once upon a time, we never understood the need for prenups, but life is complicated and shit happens. It’s better to plan for the worst and hope for the best, than to ignore the possibility that things could go wrong and be caught unaware when they do.Family time, only 28 years belated [2:08]Procrastinating wedding planning [10:12]Pre-marriage money questions [14:47]A prenup protects both parties [19:09]Resentment can build without these conversations [22:28]Marriage gets so much more complicated with age [27:18]Prenups can be as individual as the marriage [29:43]When it’s in writing, everybody knows [32:58]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Ep. 578: Never Say Never (Or Else)

Never say never on the internet because if you make a public claim about one thing and then eventually change your mind, someone out there named Susan is going to be VERY mad at you. (No offense to all the Susans out there, we’re sure most of you are normal.) When people follow you for one opinion you hold or attribute you have, it can be hard to come to terms with any life changes you make—especially if you’ve built a business on said attribute or opinion. We have enough life experience now to know that the second we decide how we feel about something, we inevitably change our minds. Maybe the only way to get around it all is just acknowledging that we don’t know anything, ever. The world might be run by assholes and idiots, but that doesn’t make us powerless! Y’all, this is the Best Life, and living the Best Life means realizing that even in the worst situations, we still have influence over our own lives. So yeah, the world is run by assholes and idiots, but that’s nothing new. Ep. 576: The Healed Woman vs. the Unchanged Man

Sometimes it feels like we’re in all-out gender warfare, where women are putting in work to heal themselves while men dig their heels into their old, problematic ways. You don’t have to tell us, we know it’s not ALL men, but there’s a lot of data showing that women are outpacing men in almost all growth metrics, including intellectual and personal. We don’t know why men are more resistant to change, but we don’t feel like we’re asking too much.
