Matt Whitman—The Steel Man, The Straw Man, and The Kool-Aid Man

Matt Whitman, host of the 10-Minute Bible Hour, sits down with Wade Mobley to talk about digital wisdom for the technological age. Matt shares his journey from small-town pastor to full-time "interneter" and discusses how the church can navigate a world where the truth is hard to discern, especially online. Matt and Wade engage in an impromptu game of defending/attacking differing theological positions using the concepts of the Steel Man (the most charitable version of an argument) and the Straw Man (a weak caricature). Finally, Matt uses the the character of the Kool-Aid Man from 1980's TV commercials to illustrate how we as Christians can tend to burst into a conversation with uninvited, ill-informed hot takes rather than leading with truth and love.

Stop Looking for Purpose: Your Neighbor Is the Answer

In a world obsessed with "finding your purpose" and chasing abstract goals, we often overlook the divine calling right in front of us. In this part 3 of our mini-series on ethics, Dr. Nathan Olson challenges the modern search for a grand, hidden destiny by grounding ethics in the Lutheran doctrine of Vocation. "Abstraction is the enemy of the Gospel." When we stop looking inward for a mystical purpose and start looking outward at our neighbors, our responsibilities become clear and meaningful. Whether as a student, a parent, or a coworker, you are a "mask of God" through which He provides for the world. Discover how shifting your focus from "What should I do with my life?" to "Who is my neighbor?" can bring clarity, peace, and a renewed sense of dignity to your everyday work.

  3. 38

Culture Is Terrible at Choosing Right and Wrong

In this part 2 of our series on ethics, Jason Gudim and Nathan Olson explore three major philosophical systems: deontology, consequentialism (utilitarianism), and virtue ethics. They discuss the strengths and pitfalls of each, highlighting how secular frameworks often struggle with consistency when removed from a divine moral lawgiver. By applying these systems to real-world and biblical examples—such as the pro-life movement, the "trolley problem," and the actions of figures like King David and Dietrich Bonhoeffer—they emphasize the necessity of a theological foundation to navigate complex ethical dilemmas and maintain personal integrity in a fallen world.

  4. 37

    Don’t Trust Your Heart—Christian Ethics

In part one of our series on Ethics, Jason Gudim and Nathan Olson explore the intersection of Lutheran theology and ethical practice. They discuss why ethics has historically been a secondary topic in Lutheran circles and argue for its importance as a "missional exercise" and an outworking of faith.

  5. 36

Objective Truth & the Myth of Progress—C.S. Lewis the Philosopher

Wade, Madi, and Jason conclude their series on C.S. Lewis with the Philosophy of the great Christian apologist. In both his non-fiction and fiction works, Lewis eloquently weaves convincing arguments for absolute truth, God's existence, and the limits of scientific theory. Wade reads the famous "Men Without Chests" passage from the Abolition of Man, and our hosts examine the need for morals that come from outside ourselves. They end the episode with suggestions of where to start if reading C.S. Lewis for the very first time.

  6. 35

C.S. Lewis Doesn’t Need to Be A Good Theologian

In this part 2 of our series on C.S.Lewis, our trio explores the non-fiction works and core theological arguments of C.S. Lewis. They transition from discussing his fiction to his role as a scholar, theologian, and philosopher, highlighting his unique ability to make complex topics accessible.

  7. 34

Why You Should Read C.S. Lewis

One would be hard-pressed to find a more influential Christian apologist than Clive Staples Lewis. But what made him such a brilliant writer? In this part 1, Madi, Wade, and Jason discuss Lewis' scholarship that made him such a skilled crafter of myths.

  8. 33

BONUS: Why Does It Matter What We Believe about the Trinity?

Why does the Trinity matter? Christian theologians seem to get really up in arms whenever someone tries to describe the 3 persons of the Godhead with an analogy, but why? 9. 32
