S3, E2: Stanford/Berkeley Admits on High School and College Applications
In the 2nd episode of season 3 of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we were able to sit down with two future undergrad students, Rohan Kumar (UC Berkeley) & Manasi Garg (Stanford University). We talked about how much of a time drag the college application process was, and how they balanced a sufficient enough schedule to meet their goals. More on the college application process, Rohan and Manasi gave a couple of pointers to focus on to write elegant essays, and what worked for them. Also, the two made comparisons between their online school experiences and in-person school, and how online school may impact their college experience in the future. In addition, we asked the two if their college results came back as expected, but note that Rohan and Manasi aren't admission officers, so they explained how the college admission process could be subjective. On more of the un-academic side of things, the two gave a rundown on what they thought about Saratoga culture/competitiveness, and managing a social life in conjunction with max rigor schedules. Tune into this amazing episode with these brilliant people, and a huge thanks again to Rohan and Manasi for giving us your time!

Nate also made clear what the components of UI are, distinguishing the balance between simplicity and functionality on website development. More on this, we wanted to get Nate's criticism on some of the websites we've built ourselves, so to hear his two cents stay tuned till the end of the video! Again, a big thanks to Nate Worford for giving us your time.

S2,E6: How To Assess Different Ethical & Social Dilemmas
In the sixth episode of season 2 of "The Haleakalan" Podcast, we took apart several moral, ethical, and social dilemmas with the hopes of reaching a general consensus. We started off with some light and easy topics like what to at a red light when no one is around, and what to do when you observe someone stealing. Another interesting dilemma had to do with hypothetically exploiting animals for enhanced taste, which was an eye-opening discussion because we understood how our fellow vegetarians thought about the situation. But the conversation that took up a good chunk of this episode was the debate between attempted vs executed murder, and it stemmed from the famous Prisoner's dilemma. That was quite fiery, so be sure to tune in for that, in addition to all of the other dilemmas.

S2, E4: Recent News, Trump Acquittal, Bezos Step Down, Covid Vaccine, Super Bowl + More
In the fourth episode of season 2 of "The Haleakalan" Podcast, we tried a little bit of a different approach. We decided to do a mesh or hodge podge of different topics such as Bezos stepping down and how it will affect his personal profile. In addition, Trumps' acquittal & the prevalent COVID situation was touched on heavily. There were also more fun topics like the Super Bowl, but we tried to include an educational segment about it as well by talking about Vincent Jackson (R.I.P) and the entire CTE situation. Unfortunately, one of our podcast members was unable to participate in this episode due to being away with some lads. We apologize to any viewers if he is your favorite speaker. Nonetheless, tune in to experience the amazing conversations in this one.

S2, E3: Privacy & Censorship + GME/AMC Stock
In the third episode of season 2 of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we decided to talk about the most trending topic at the time, which was the GME/AMC stock. There was lots of controversy surrounding this topic, and it made for a phenomenal discussion about it. Also, we talked about some interesting events that involve two very high profile individuals: Donald J. Trump & Ayaan Haque. They had both gotten entangled with some privacy and censorship issues, so we decided to break those down a little. From that, it was very easy to offer our perspective on private companies and the government having access to citizens' private information. Is it ethical? Why or why not. Click on this video to explore our thoughts on this prominent matter.

S2, E2: Riots At The Capitol & The Impeachment Of Trump
In the 2nd episode of season 2 of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we brought on three guests to talk about the violent riots at the Capitol Hill, and what it means for the future of the GOP. We didn't touch too much on Trump's impeachment, however, we talked about the issue of privacy and censorship. Feel free to watch our future videos on privacy and censorship, but we debated whether unity is possible, opposing political views of our guests, and how Biden should respond to recent events.

S2, E1: Ethics Behind College Apps & The New Surge of Nonprofits
In the first episode of season 2 of "The Haleakalan" Podcast, we bring on two new guests to discuss the ethics behind college apps & the new surge of 501c3's. Quarantine along with the pandemic has altered the typical idea of extracurriculars for students, because while many opportunities may have become more available, many have been shut down. We ask the guests questions about legacy having a part in the college admission process, which led to a rather fiery debate over its usage. In addition, we talked about how to find your proper fit for a college, and just find a fitting activity to do. Our guests have been affiliated with many clubs in school and out with tons of experience behind them, so it would be quite worthwhile to give this episode a listen.

S1, E10: Recap Of Semester 1 & Season 1, Future Plans + More!
In the episode finale of season 1, we recapped our first semester of junior year, as it came to an end. We discussed the good and bad things of our podcast as it was our first time doing something so out of the ordinary. We also touched on possible ideas for ways we'd execute the second season of "The Haleakalan" podcast. One more segment we had was the recollection of all of the musicians that got us through the semester. This was overall a very casual episode, so join in and remember the good things of your year while you listen to us. Especially because we gave our podcast and year a rating overall out of 10 and 100, so make sure to stay tuned for the reasoning behind that. Please keep in mind that we had to mute certain parts of the video due to legal purposes.

S1, E9: Political Civility, Social Media & Education In Politics, Public Figures & Antics + More!
In the second to last episode of season 1 of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we decided to change things up a little bit. We brought on two people who weren't regular members of the podcast to talk about the current state of political civility. What is a healthy way to disagree with someone while remaining civil? Two people on opposing sides of the spectrum being on the podcast, we thought would be extremely interesting and spur intriguing conversations. Some alternate things we discussed were the riots stemming from the Black Lives Matter protests and how social media is in conjunction with politics. How counter productive is it for politics in general when one side of the debate is simply unwilling to listen to the opposing side? How do celebrity endorsements tie into separating artists from the antics? We also touched a little on privacy and censorship, but stay tuned for season 2 to get the full episode on that. Click on this video to figure out who the special guests are, and decide which side of the debate you yourself are on.

S1, E8: Artificial Intelligence & Technology and Their Implications on Fairness & Bias + More!
We finally talked about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Tech in the eighth episode of "The Haleakalan" Podcast. The use of those two things are skyrocketing in the status quo, and its implications on fairness and bias are a blessing, yet also a curse. Although AI is great and the world gets largely safer through its use, there are justice issues that are created through the use of AI. The controversial debates about what to do with the analysis of historical data were discussed heavily during this podcast. The facial and structural recognition of a person through AI was also touched on, but we had to avoid the logistical things about this topic, because we aren't really that qualified. We also discussed three possible scenarios in which AI could be utilized, while taking into consideration ethics and morality. Learn more about AI and its implications on fairness by clicking this video, as your knowledge in this realm will probably bolster significantly by listening to us 6 high school students.

S1, E7: UBI & Welfare, Andrew Yang, Automation, Discovering the Solution + More!
In the seventh episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we dive head first into the concept of UBI, universal basic income. This issue has become prevalent over the course of many years, and even became presidential candidate, Andrew Yang's central idea for his campaign during the 2020 election. While there are many underlying issues, hypotheticals, and loopholes stemming from the use of a UBI, we discussed the possibilities that would originate through a UBI. Things such as a UBI being incorporated into existing financial assistance facilities, and whether that idea would be feasible for the future is something we discussed heavily. Would a UBI make people lazier and deter their incentives to work? Or would there be no choice but to adapt, due to the manufacturing and labor jobs starting to disappear because of a concept that is right around the corner, known as automation? With automation in place, is a UBI inevitable and is welfare a sufficient enough concept to maintain a stable working class? All these questions plus so much more can only be answered in one way. Listening to this podcast. The best way to grasp an understanding on such a vast topic like UBI is by watching 6 highly educated high schoolers drop their perspectives on it. No cap detected.

S1, E6: Should College Be Free/A Public Service? Student Debt, Community College + More!
In the sixth episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we discuss the actual credibility and qualifications of a college. The million dollar question for this episode was: "Is College Really Worth It?" With the prices of colleges increasing and education quality remaining the same, we broke down this question into several parts. A) Should college be free, or at least decrease their expenses and B) Should it be a public service? In 2019, student debt reached an all time high at $1.41 trillion. We broke down why the number is atrociously high, with the primary reasons being the corrupt Department of Education deceiving ignorant university students. The college scandals that occurred in recent years have caused people to consider moving to community colleges, and also minimize student debt. Subsequently, we conversed about whether going to community college is a smart decision or not. Tune in with us to learn whether college is actually the best choice for you!

S1, E5: 2020 Election, Flaws in the Electoral College, & Exploring Alts to Electing Candidates + More!
In the fifth episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we look back on the predictions we made prior to the election results, and analyze them thoroughly. We explored the ways in which presidential candidates appeal to their supporters in such effective manners, such as playing the game of identity politics. With COVID spiking, we thought it'd be a great idea to dive into the unique approaches that voters took to cast their ballots, and whether it deterred possible votes for a certain candidate to collect. In addition, we decided to debunk the apparent flaws our Electoral College System and offer our own methods to replacing the system. Tune in to gain knowledge on all the topics listed above, and most importantly, our thoughts on Trump going authoritarian mode after not conceding. "STOP THE COUNT!"

S1, E4: Mars Colonization & How To Structure a Society/Government on Mars + More!
In the fourth episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we discuss an ideal form of government and how to establish a society, in places that have never been infiltrated with human life. One possible place for future human life that may open up in at least the next millennium, is Mars. We gab about an ideal government to fit the Martian life criteria, as well as debate over each other's ideas of government. We've tried to avoid giving our perspective on modern political issues, but it ended up aiding us in configuring our own ideas of a government on Mars nonetheless. Another thing we've tried avoiding was any sort of discussion on something overly logistical, but it was almost inevitable in this episode. We are just a couple of high school students passionate in topics like these; we don't have a degree in astrobiology or anything as such. That being said, please skip over anything you classify as nitty & gritty. For anyone out there with history test, this episode will be extremely useful for you as we lay out a specific timeline regarding the abolition of slavery, Lincoln's presidency, past aristocracies, and more. Watching this episode will guarantee a 100% on your next history test. Also, stick around till the end to watch Viraaj add a little light to this heated discussion.

S1, E3: The Ideal Structure of Classes, School Setting Us Up For Failure + More!
In the third episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we discuss the structure of a school class in the status quo, as well as what our ideal class should look like. Specifically, how a teacher should teach their class, and we break down the problems that are in the structural culture of a class. One other thing we touched on was whether or not students actually retain the information that they learn in school. Do they actually understand the concepts from these subjects, or is it simply for passing the class? Also as the new phenomenon, TikTok, is on the up-rise, we noticed a lot of these young entrepreneurs describing their journey to gaining millionaire status. These people educate the users of the app with life tips that are substantially more important for teenagers' life in the future as an adult. Things like taxes, Roth IRA's, 401k's are all things that these college drop-out millionaires teach us, that school doesn't. We analyze their journeys, and pose the question of: Does one actually need school to be successful? Tune in to learn the intricacies about the school system, and whether the school system actually does students justice in helping them in preparation for the future and much more.

S1, E2: The Use of Tutors, "Paying to Win", & Culture in the Bay Area + More!
In the second episode of "The Haleakalan" podcast, we touch on the use of tutors in weighted classes, such as AP/IB/honors classes, and debate whether "paying to win" is essentially what a tutor does for students in the Bay Area. By recollecting either past experiences with tutors we've had ourselves, or some of our friends have had, we were able to reach several different conclusions about the topic. In addition, we talk about the culture here at Saratoga High, and the Bay Area as a whole. Join us on this adventure to learn about the unspoken truth regarding tutors and much more.
