039 - Australian Gyms, Restaurants, Pubs & Clubs Reopening, CDC's Statistics, and Fear vs. Reality

As the lockdown eases more and more each day, everyone is itching to get back to their lives. The good news here in Australia is that gyms, hairdressers, physiotherapists, restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs, shops are reopening. They, of course, all come with their own distinct rules and regulations. But this is a good thing for not only everybody's physical and mental health, their social interaction, their regular and ideal ways of life, and their hobbies, but for all those who have been without work and an income for more than three months. In this episode I talk about this, I also dive into the CDC's (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) statistics and general overview for the virus that may quell many fears you may have for getting back to it following such a restrictive and unknown portion of your life. I would love to hear your thoughts about these topics and how COVID has impacted your life. Let me know down in the comments! Thanks so much for tuning in.

038 - Big Tech Censorship and the Potential Pitfalls for Them Harnessing the Power of Truth

With Twitter, its CEO Jack Dorsey, and the Head of Site Integrity Yoel Roth under fire after adding a fact-checking button to one of the US president Donald J Trump's tweet yesterday, things are breaking apart in the social media realm. The president has ordered an executive order on social media after his tweet about mail-in ballots being a sham and not the way any election should ever go in America. This will put social media giants such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter in the limelight and the question of what they are as companies, whether they are actually platforms open for debate on all sides of the fence, no matter your political interests, no matter what you think, allowing for freedom of choice, thought, and opinion, or if they are in fact publishers who are the arbiters of truth and will dictate and determine what users are exposed to. What do you think though? Is it wrong for the big tech companies (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter) to become the arbiters of truth? Should we be worried when they start censoring people who do not align with what they think or believe in? What does it mean for these companies, who control so much attention, who harness so much power, to become the people who shape what we learn and think? Things could be dire if, say, Hitler was allowed a YouTube channel. But even then, blocking him would be a disservice to the right to freely think and speak. Wouldn't it? Having the opportunity to say what we do think, is how it should be. No matter the ramifications. No matter if it leads to backlash and hate. In Zucked, written by Roger McNamee, he discusses this very topic and the danger for these companies to not only obtain so much data about every single one of us, but shape what we see each day, thereby impacting our emotions. And in this episode, I discuss these topics and more. If you enjoyed this episode, let me know by leaving a comment below or hitting me up via email. Thanks so much for tuning in.

037 - The Long-Term Mental Health Impacts: A Discussion with Suicide Prevention Australia's CEO, Nieves Murray (Part II)

On this episode, I finish the conversation with Suicide Prevention Australia's CEO, Nieves Murray. We talk about mental health and routines and staying sane during troubling times. We also discuss social distancing vs. physical distancing, hobbies, and so much more. Make sure you check out Part 1 (the previous episode) if you haven't. Thanks for tuning in :)

036 - COVID-19 and Mental Health: A Conversation with Suicide Prevention Australia's CEO Nieves Murray (Part I))

The impact upon mental health and lifestyles during this pandemic is catastrophic. In the long-term, there's no denying they will be even more devastating than the virus itself. It might sound harsh, it might sound odd, but the reality is this: The amount of people being impacted every single day, regardless of the proximity to the actual virus, is huge. The loss of job, income, dream businesses, lifestyles, freedom, socialising, routine, and the list could go on and on, is massive. Of course the virus is bad. Of course nobody wants anyone else to suffer or die because of it. But we have to start talking about what's going on during this lockdown and what is going to happen in the future. We can't just be looking at it from a present point of view anymore. On this episode, I'm joined by the CEO of Suicide Prevention Australia, Nieves Murray. We talk about topics like this. We also discuss Australia's response to the virus, our health care system, what her organisation is doing alongside the Australian government, life during the virus crisis, social distancing vs. physical distancing, schedules and routines, staying sane during all of this, people's true colours, and so much more. This is part one of two. Be sure to check out the next episode to listen to the whole conversation. I hope you enjoy the discussion and thank you for tuning in.

035 - The Overlooked COVID-19 Impacts and Media Hysteria

We all know the mainstream media loves to gain attention by aiming for clickbait articles, viral videos, emotionally-charged pieces that increase likes and followers. It's a popularity contest, most of the time, for most journalists. Which can warp what headlines are written and what stories get around. During the pandemic, this very thing can be the cause of so much fear and panic and unrest and uncertainty. And this is the last thing we want. We are already seeing an increase in mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. We're seeing an increase in alcohol consumption, substance abuse, domestic violence. But these topics aren't being discussed. The long-term impacts for the people not necessarily in the "high risk" category are still substantial. Instead, however, the media (and perhaps the government) like to focus on the information that messes with us. The stuff that makes us worry. And while there's no clear tunnel to get out of this, if we don't channel what we're paying attention to, we can be far worse off. What do you think? Is the mainstream media merely playing us as dummies? How are you dealing with this pandemic and staying clear headed? Let me know: pernosophy.com

  6. 34

034 - Coronavirus Australia: Gyms To Stay Closed Until September... Really?

As the curve continues to flatten in Australia, the mainstream media will stop at nothing to continuously inflict fear and hysteria in the public that rely on them to bring them up-to-date, unbiased, and factual information. It's unsurprising, though. It's a popularity contest for most journalists and news outlets these days. And unfortunately, the majority of people don't look further than the links that are shared over social media, nor even bother to read past the catchy headlines. One recent article that has been talked about and shared a lot among health and fitness conscious people was published by a "reputable" news site known as news.com.au titled Coronavirus Australia: Gyms To Stay Closed Until September. While it did originally appear on The Daily Mail, news.com.au is a website where a lot of people get their information from. You might think, well, who cares? News sites are supposed to write catchy headlines and cause an emotional reaction. And while you are right, the problem comes when the headline starts off one way, yet by the end of the article, completely reverts it's narrative. Take a listen to this episode and let me know what your thoughts are this within this whole debacle.

  7. 33

033 - COVID Crisis: Conspiracy or Tin Foil Proposition?

From 5G to totalitarian control to China wanting to ruin lives and relations with the rest of the globe to the west wanting to destroy everything they've built, does any of it make sense? Is there any benefit to destroying the planet? Is there any reason for a country to destroy everything they've built between the nations? Is there any reason to taking away all our rights and thoughts and and diminish our individual characteristics? What benefit would this serve? It is definitely a strange time right now for all of us who call Earth home. It's probably going to be even stranger once we start easing into normality—whatever that is—once again. It's hard when we don't really have a clear timeline, nor can even fathom what is really going on behind the scenes. Which, understandably, has resulted in conspiracy theories and accusations. But are any of them warranted? In this episode I discuss this topic and how western society has done its best to keep this socialist, don't ask questions, stfu mentality out of reach. But many people think it's coming back. What do you think? Let me know by hitting up the comments below. Thanks so much for tuning in.

  8. 32

032 - Are We Headed For Dystopia?

With all these lockdowns and rules and regulations somewhat imprisoning us inside our homes during the global pandemic known as COVID-19, are we too willingly and blindly becoming obedient? Are we not speaking up or standing up for our rights enough? Are we allowing the government, or simply those in charge, to take away the freedom our forefathers worked so hard to obtain and maintain? Are we being lied to? In this episode, I talk about the potential for a dystopian, Orwellian future that has been predicted for so many years. I also talk about Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago and how themes and points discussed inside it and what was going on at the time relates to elements of what we are all living through right now in 2020. After listening to this episode, I would love to know your thoughts. Do you think we are heading to a dark future? Hit me up in the comments below. Thanks so much for tuning in.

    031 - Intermission: COVID-19

The global pandemic that is coronavirus-19, is testing each of us in so many different ways. It's disrupting our livelihoods and altering how we simply get around each day, socialise, what news we pay attention to, what topics we talk and think about. It's a huge change in all our lives and it's very easy for us all to buckle and lose our sense of selves and maintain a level of patience and understanding. And motivation. In the first episode of season two of The Pernosophy Podcast, I talk about why this intermission, this pause on regular life, can be one portion of our life that we can use to our advantage. I also talk about my experience working in the health and fitness industry and what COVID-19 meant for so many of us that work in person-person jobs. This season, I'm giving recording each episode a go. If you'd like to watch this episode instead, head to THIS LINK. Wherever you listen or watch, if you do enjoy the episode, please take the time to like/share/subscribe! I would really appreciate it. Thanks for tuning in.

    030 - Was Thanos Right?

Was Thanos right? Are humans a plague? Is Earth and its species doomed? On this episode of The Pernosophy Podcast, I discuss population growth and its impacts, poverty, education, IQ, health, wealth, success, and prosperity. I also talk about what can happen if humans levelled up as a whole, even more so than what they already have. But, what are your thoughts? Do you think he was right? Let me know by heading to my website pernosophy.com or by hunting me down on social media: @haydenperno / @pernosophy. If you've been listening to this show from the start, I would really appreciate it if you left a quick review. You could also share it around to your friends or family via text or even on your social media. I am hoping to get to episode 100, and with my downloads neither increasing nor decreasing, it would be really good to know if I am spending my time wisely with this show (i.e., tell me if I suck). Thanks for listening in and I will talk to you next time.

  11. 29

029 - No One Cares About You

Too harsh of a title? On this episode I explore a few topics surrounding nihilism, perspective, self-worth, and life. In doing so, I talk about individuals that are constantly seeking sympathy, playing the victim game, and forgoing components to their life that are truly positive. I also talk about the power of narrative and what game you can play with not only yourself, but the people around you. I would love to hear your thoughts on this whole topic. Head to pernosophy.com or hunt me down on social media: @haydenperno / @pernosophy Thanks so much for listening in and I'll talk to you next time.

    028 - Why You're Wrong About Jordan B. Peterson

Why is there so much hate for University of Toronto Professor and Clinical Psychologist, Jordan B. Peterson? From the countless hours he has uploaded on his YouTube alone, to his Biblical series, his classroom lecture recordings, all the way to the many interviews and live talks in front of hundreds of people he has undertaken, it makes no sense that the media and a certain group of individuals consistently like to paint Peterson in the wrong light. Is it because of a few comments he has made? An overall objective he is focused on? Or is his strong character and intellect too overwhelming for people to debate, understand, or reason with? On this episode, I explore why I believe Peterson is seen in the wrong light. In doing so, I try to provide an unbiased discussion surrounding his motives, his character, and his knowledge. True, he has said a few things that can be taken out of context or seen as confusing provided the entire discussion is not witnessed, but for the most part, the 30+ year acting professor and clinical psychologist has the knack for helping thousands of people out. Which is why we can see his recent book sales (12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos) peaking three million copies, and his first book, Maps of Meaning, sitting comfortably with a notorious bestseller title that has influenced various individuals, ranging from atheists to theologists. What do you think though? Are you offended by Peterson's work? Or, do you love the information and advice he constantly preaches? I would love to know how you perceive this entire story. Let me know over on my website pernosophy.com or via social media: @haydenperno. And, as always, thanks so much for listening in. 027 - Data Collection & Privacy Concerns

How concerned should we be for when it comes to data collection and privacy concerns from companies like Google and Facebook? A lot of us aren't too concerned when it comes to stuff like this. We are, after all, innocent, right? Well, on first thought, sure, this makes sense. Many of us don't need to worry too much about what we're getting up to online, because not too many of us are searching weird things that will trigger extra government surveillance. But, unfortunately, this is only a superficial perspective. What lies beneath all this data collection and constant pursuit of understanding human behaviour better is their increase in power to further influence what we see, click, think, and act on. This topic has been discussed frequently. Especially in the media lately thanks to people like Tristan Harris and Roger McNamee. And this is a good thing. We need this conversation. We need to know what's going on behind the scenes. People like Harris and McNamee aren't looking to shut down all of our favourite apps and websites. Quite the contrary. They are only looking to question why it's legal for them to track so much of our lives in the name of targeting, virality, and income. They're trying to start the conversation. They're trying to get us thinking about this and for us to question companies like these and governments that are allowing this. But, what are your thoughts? I would love to know. You can head to pernosophy.com and leave a comment or thought on this episode. Or, you can hunt me down on social media: @haydenperno & @pernosophy If you think someone you know would be interested in this topic, why not share it to them? I would really love to spread this show a little more. Alternatively, I would love to know if you think this show is trash and I could improve in an area: info [at] pernosophy.com Thanks so much for listening in and I'll talk to you next week. 026 - Climate Change: Fact or Fiction?

Is climate change a media-driven, over-politicised phenomenon, or is there merit to this controversial topic? On this episode, I explore one aspect that is often quoted, yet hardly understood: 97% of scientists agree with climate change. Is this true? What does this mean? Is this even possible? Doesn't this go against what science is all about? Listen in on this episode to learn why making children protest about a scientific topic such as this is harmful (such as what happened in Australia recently), how wrong so many people are when it comes to quoting information that the media loves to put out to the world for potential virality and clicks through to their site, plus more. Please note that I am neither in agreement nor against what the atmospheric scientists are stating. I am merely exploring the topic and pointing out some fallacies behind a lack of critical thinking and misconstruing information. What do you think of this topic? Do you agree with children being told to protest about something they most likely know nothing about? I would love to hear from you. Hit me up over on my website: pernosophy.com. Or hunt me down on social media and let me know: @haydenperno | @pernosophy. Thanks so much for listening in and please teach me if you know anything that counters what I talk about in this episode! Peace.

On the 25th episode of The Pernosophy Podcast, I explore the topic surrounding responsibility and our requirements for growing and helping our loved ones. I also discuss time limits, patience, addiction, egoism, altruism, and when we should limit our advice. What do you think about this topic? I would love to know. Hit me up on social media: @pernosophy or @haydenperno. You can alternatively head to my website pernosophy.com and drop a comment/question/thought on the episode. Thanks so much for listening in.

023 - Overthinking & Over-analysing: Where Do We Draw the Line?

On Episode 023 of The Pernosophy Podcast, I explore the question: Where do we draw the line when it comes to the often accused "over-thinkers"? I also talk about the benefits for overthinking/analysing, the negatives, how to separate the two, plus how to go about using the power of thinking as a positive in your life. Are you an "over-thinker" or are you somebody that calls folk one? I would love to know what you think about this topic. Let me know by heading to pernosophy.com and leaving a comment on the episode. Or, you can hunt me down on social media: @pernosophy | @haydenperno Thanks so much for listening in and I'll talk to you next time.

022 - Your Gut Feeling Sucks

On Episode 022 of The Pernosophy Podcast, I talk about the gut feeling phenomenon. In doing so, I try to explore why this experience may be faulty with reference to conditioning, Pavlov's dog experiments, intuition, scepticism, and base trait personalities. After listening to this episode, what do you think? Are you in favour of a gut feeling being a true experience that guides you in life? Or, is it something that you learn and evolve in life through your experiences? You can let me know by heading to my website pernosophy.com. On the 20th episode of The Pernosophy Podcast, I talk about all the events, tasks, and stories that can leave you feeling empty or directionless following the completion of it. Things like finishing school or university, leaving a job, moving to a new area, completing a personal project, etc. I also talk about an experience of mine with a story a couple of years ago, plus five steps to utilise to get yourself back on track, focusing on an aim, and chasing goals once again. After finishing this episode, I'd love to know your thoughts on this topic. I'd also love to know what you think of the five steps and if you do anything similar. 019 - Fitness Perceptions & Expectations

On this episode I talk about perceptions, myths and expectations for when it comes to getting fit/healthy. Plus, I talk about why the extreme approach that is so often promoted, typically ends with folk "falling off the bandwagon", expecting too much from themselves, or expecting too much from the whole journey. I also talk about what someone might want to look for in a trainer/coach if embarking on their own health endeavour.

  22. 18

018 - Fat Shaming vs. Health Shaming

On this episode I explore the topic surrounding health and fat shaming. In doing so, and following the introduction to the story about my sister being told she is too skinny (she's not) and that my mum should feed her more (she feeds her perfectly), I discuss why it seems to be okay to health shame and not fat shame, the difference between putting Tess Holliday on the cover of Cosmopolitan and health and fitness magazines, how much ridicule one faces when trying to implement positive health and fitness changes, confidence and being comfortable with your body, and how potent your circle is for influencing your life and trajectory.

  23. 17

017 - Do Opposites Really Attract?

On this episode, I explore the common thought regarding opposites attracting one another. While this is quite often the thought behind the success of certain relationships, does this hold up in comparison to individuals coming together with ample similarities? Furthermore, if individuals are too different, will there be too much drama? Or if they're too similar, will it be too comfortable and the individuals will thus lose the potential for a clashing/growth-worthy relationship? If you enjoy this episode, or you you have something to add to this discussion, I'd love to know. You can do this by letting me know on my website pernosophy.com, or by hunting me down on social media @haydenperno. Thanks so much for listening in and I'll talk to you next time.

  24. 16

    016 - The Tattooist of Auschwitz (Discussion/Overview)

This episode is definitely one of my more heavier ones. In it, I discuss the book The Tattooist of Auschwitz written by Heather Morris. In doing so, I talk about the holocaust and the concentration camp in Poland known as Auschwtiz during World War II. I also talk about the main characters in the story—Lale and Gita—and what it meant for them to go through living hell and come out the other side, some of the standout scenes and elements of the story that really affected me, plus more. I would love to know what you think of this discussion and if you have either travelled to Auschwitz, Poland, and/or read the book. You can let me know on my website pernosophy.com, or by hunting me down on social media: @haydenperno Thanks so much for listening in.
