You Didn’t Lose Yourself in Motherhood: Finding Your Identity in Christ as a Mom
Have you ever felt like you lost yourself after becoming a mom?Maybe you miss the woman you were before motherhood. Maybe you’ve heard the advice to “not lose yourself in motherhood” so many times that you’ve started wondering if becoming a mother really does mean giving up a piece of yourself. But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question? In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we’re taking a closer look at the cultural message behind “Don’t lose yourself in motherhood” and asking whether motherhood is really something we need to protect our identity from. Why don’t we hear “Don’t lose yourself in fatherhood” nearly as often? Why is fatherhood so often celebrated as a reason to step up, provide, work hard, and build, while motherhood can be framed as something that will hold a woman back? And why does “I’m just a mom” sound like an apology? We’ll talk about the way our culture has confused financial productivity with contribution, why motherhood is often minimized, and the pressure moms can feel to prove they are more than just a mother. But this isn’t an argument that motherhood should become your entire identity. You are more than a mom, but not because motherhood isn’t enough.Your identity was never meant to be found in motherhood, your career, your accomplishments, your productivity, or your ability to hold everything together.Your identity is rooted in Christ. And maybe you don’t need to “find yourself” again after motherhood.Maybe you’re becoming someone new. We’ll talk about the grief that can come with the changes of motherhood, the difference between losing something and being lost, and how God can use motherhood to reveal, transform, and shape us.Instead of asking, “How do I get myself back?” maybe the better question is:“God, who are You forming me to become?”If you’re an overwhelmed Christian mom who has ever wondered where you went after becoming a mother, this episode is for you.You didn’t necessarily lose yourself.Maybe motherhood is one of the places where God is teaching you who you really are.Support the show✨ Free Gift for You: If mom guilt has been weighing on your heart, I've created a free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to help you replace the lies with God's truth. How to Stop Starting Over Every Monday | A Simple Rhythm With God for Overwhelmed Moms
How many times have I told myself, “Okay, this week is going to be different”?I’ll start eating better. I’ll work out. I’ll wake up early and spend time with God. I’ll finally get my house under control. I’ll create the perfect homeschool schedule, work on my business, keep up with the laundry, meal plan… and somehow get to everything else on my list.Monday is going to be the day I finally get it all together. And then Monday comes… and life happens. As a Type A person who genuinely loves to plan, I’ve always found comfort in knowing what’s coming next. But when plans change, I can quickly become stressed and anxious. I realized that I wasn’t just making plans for my days, I was putting a lot of hope into those plans. I thought that if I could just get the schedule right, everything would finally work. But I wasn’t just planning my day.I was trying to control it.In this episode of The Rooted Mother, I’m sharing what God has been teaching me about letting go of rigid routines and creating a simple rhythm with Him instead.A rhythm that leaves room for motherhood, interruptions, flexibility, grace, and real life.I’m sharing the simple practices that have helped me stay rooted in God throughout my day, starting with prayer, getting into His Word even when I only have a few minutes, choosing three priorities instead of trying to accomplish everything, and practicing gratitude in the ordinary moments. Most importantly, I’m learning that I don’t have to wait until Monday to start again.God’s mercies are new every morning. So when I fall out of rhythm, I can return.I can return to God.I can return to what matters.I can take the next faithful step.Because I don’t need to know exactly how tomorrow will unfold.I just need to know Who is already there. If I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in perfectionism, or constantly like I’m behind, maybe I don’t need another routine.Maybe I need a rhythm that leaves room for God, grace, and real life.Scriptures mentioned: Lamentations 3:22–23 and Deuteronomy 31:8Support the show✨ Free Gift for You: If mom guilt has been weighing on your heart, I've created a free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to help you replace the lies with God's truth. Why Am I So Tired When I Haven’t Done That Much? | Christian Mom Burnout & Biblical Rest
Why am so tired all the time when I feel like I didn’t even accomplish that much? If you’re an overwhelmed mom carrying the mental load of motherhood, struggling with mom guilt, and wondering why you feel completely exhausted at the end of the day, this episode of The Rooted Mother is for you.As moms, we can spend our entire day doing a thousand tiny things, homeschooling, caring for our kids, breaking up arguments, making meals, managing the house, thinking ahead, carrying everyone’s needs, and trying to find time for God, and still end the day feeling like we didn’t do enough. In this episode I open up about what Christian mom burnout has looked like in my own life, including the mental and emotional exhaustion of motherhood, losing my temper with my kids, feeling guilty when homeschooling doesn't go as planned, trying to build a business while raising four children, and realizing that I don't always know how to truly rest. But what if your exhaustion isn't because you're lazy or not doing enough? What if you're simply carrying too much and trying to do it all at once?In this episode, we talk about:Why the mental load of motherhood can be more exhausting than the physical workWhy overwhelmed moms often feel guilty for needing restThe connection between mom burnout, perfectionism, and unrealistic expectationsWhy scrolling and distraction aren't always the same thing as true restWhat the Bible says about rest and why God actually commands itExodus 34:21 and God's design for Sabbath and restPsalm 127:2 and the temptation to live as though everything depends on usThe story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 and what it teaches us about being busy with good thingsHow to recognize what God is actually asking you to focus on todayThe "power of ONE" and why doing one thing at a time can help you let go of overwhelmHow to surrender the things you can't control and trust God with what remains unfinishedWhat realistic rest can look like when you're a mom with young childrenThe difference between true rest and simply escaping your exhaustionMost importantly, this is a reminder for the exhausted mom who feels like she's failing:You are not exhausted because you're lazy. How to Trust God When You Can't See What He's Doing | Faith & Motherhood
How do I trust God when I can't see what He's doing?Have you ever prayed for something over and over again and wondered, “God, are You even doing anything?” Maybe you're waiting for an answered prayer, waiting for change in your marriage, waiting to see growth in your children, or simply wondering why you don't feel like you're growing spiritually. What if God is doing something beneath the surface that you simply can't see yet?In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we're looking at what gardening can teach us about God, faith, spiritual growth, trusting God's timing, and the different seasons of life. The Bible begins in a garden, the Garden of Eden, and throughout Scripture, God repeatedly uses seeds, soil, roots, vines, branches, fruit, planting, pruning, and harvest to teach us about our relationship with Him.But it wasn't until my husband and I built a tiny, little garden in our yard that these biblical lessons became real to me.Gardening taught me that growth takes time. You can't see what's happening underneath the soil. You can't see the roots growing. You can't force a seed to produce fruit before it's ready. You can prepare the soil, plant the seed, water it, pull the weeds, and care for it, but ultimately, God gives the growth. And isn't that true in our lives too?As Christian moms, we often want to see the fruit immediately. We want to know that our prayers are working. We want to see our children grow in their faith. We want to become more patient, peaceful, and trusting overnight. We want to know that we're finally making progress. But what if God is growing roots before He's producing fruit? This episode is a reminder that not every season is a harvest season. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us there is a season for everything, and a garden gives us a beautiful picture of what that means. There are seasons of:🌱 Preparing the soil🌱 Planting🌱 Waiting🌱 Growing🌱 Pulling weeds🌱 Pruning🌱 Harvesting🌱 Cleaning up and preparing for what's nextIf you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who feels like you're stuck, behind, waiting on God, struggling to trust His timing, or wondering why you can't see the growth you're praying for, I hope this episode reminds you:You don't have to force yourself into the next season. You can be faithful in the season God has you in right now.Maybe you're looking at what feels like a patch of dirt in your life and wondering why nothing is happening. But God may be growing something you can't see yet.In this episode, we'll talk about:What the Garden of Eden teaches us about GodWhy God uses gardens, seeds, soil, roots, and fruit throughout ScriptureThe Parable of the Sower and what it means to examine the soil of our heartsHow fear, guilt, comparison, anxiety, and resentment can take rootHow to recognize and replace lies with God's truthWhy spiritual growth often happens beneath the surfaceHow to trust God when you can't see what He's doingWhy you can plant and water, but God gives the growthHow to stop trying to control outcomes you were never meant to controlWhat gardening teaches us about waiting on God's timingWhat the Bible says about seasons of lifeWhy not every season of motherhood is a harvest seasonHow to trust God through seasons of waiting, pruning, planting, and preparationWhat it means to be rooted in Christ instead of rooted in our circumstancesHow to grow deeper in your relationship with God during difficult seasonsScriptures mentioned: Genesis 2–3, Matthew 13, 1 Corinthians 3:6, Ecclesiastes 3, and John 15.Mama, if you're in a season where you can't see the fruit yet, don't assume God has forgotten you.The growth begins where you can't see it.Stay rooted. Trust the Gardener. And remember that even when you can't see what God is doing, He is still working.Support the show✨ Free Gift for You: If mom guilt has been weighing on your heart, I've created a free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to help you replace the lies with God's truth. When You Doubt God in Hard Seasons: Remember His Faithfulness | Christian Mom Encouragement
Have you ever found yourself wondering, “God, where are You?” when life feels completely out of control? Maybe you're praying, but nothing seems to be changing. Maybe you're struggling to trust God because your circumstances don't look anything like you expected. In this episode of The Rooted Mother, I share a deeply personal story from one of the hardest seasons of my life, a cross-country move after my husband left the Navy, my daughter's hospitalization with orbital cellulitis, an unexpected housing crisis, losing our health insurance, financial uncertainty, and the overwhelming feeling of not knowing what would happen next. But there's something I couldn't see in the middle of that storm: God was there all along. At the time, I wasn't actively following Jesus. I was already going to therapy for depression and anxiety, but my faith journey hadn't begun yet. While I was crying and wondering where God was, my mom was praying and reminding me that God would not leave us.Looking back, I can now see how God was working through that difficult season, and how my mother's prayers were planting seeds that would eventually lead me back to Jesus and into church for the first time in nearly 20 years.Inspired by Seph Schlueter's song “Won't Start Now,” this episode is a reminder that God doesn't stop being faithful just because our circumstances become difficult. We'll talk about:What to do when you start doubting GodHow to trust God when you don't understand His planWhy God's faithfulness doesn't mean an easy lifeThe power of a mother's prayerHow God can be working even when you can't see HimWhy we need to remember what God has already doneCreating a “Faithfulness List” to remind yourself of God's provisionHow Scripture can help us hold onto God's promises during difficult seasonsWe'll look at Psalm 77, Joshua 4, 2 Timothy 1:5, John 16:33, and Proverbs 3:5–6 as we talk about remembering God's faithfulness when fear and doubt get loud.If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who is struggling to trust God right now, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to understand what God is doing to trust who He is.The God who was faithful then is faithful now.Sometimes, you don't recognize God's presence until you look back and realize He was there all along.Support the show✨ Free Gift for You: If mom guilt has been weighing on your heart, I've created a free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to help you replace the lies with God's truth. Why Am I So Angry All the Time? The Real Reason Behind Mom Rage
Why am I so angry all the time? If you’re a mom who keeps losing her temper, yelling at your kids, and then drowning in mom guilt afterward, you are not alone, and you are not broken. In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we’re going deeper than simply telling you to “stop yelling.” We’re talking about the real reasons behind mom rage and why anger can sometimes be a sign that your body, mind, and environment are overwhelmed. We’ll unpack the biological, psychological, and environmental factors that can contribute to anger, irritability, overwhelm, burnout, loneliness, resentment, and emotional exhaustion. We’ll also talk about the cycle so many moms find themselves trapped in: anger → guilt → shame → trying harder → anger again.I’ll share part of my own experience with depression and how it showed up not only as wanting to isolate myself, but also as anger and rage, and how God began teaching me that my struggle did not mean I was a bad mom or a failure. Most importantly, we’ll look at what Scripture says about anger, self-control, and God's grace, including:• James 1:19–20 - being quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger• Ephesians 4:26–27 - being angry without sinning and not giving the enemy a foothold• 2 Timothy 1:7 - God giving us a spirit of power, love, and self-control• Galatians 5:22–23 - the fruit of the Spirit• Lamentations 3:22–23 - God's mercies being new every morningIf you've ever thought, “I'm a terrible mom,” “I can't control my temper,” “My kids deserve better,” or “Maybe I'm just not meant to be a mom,” I hope this episode reminds you of something important:You are not your worst reaction. You are not your worst parenting day. And you are not beyond God's grace.God specifically called you to be their mom. You don't have to do motherhood perfectly, you were never meant to do it without Him.💕 FREE RESOURCE: Mom Guilt vs. God's TruthIf you're struggling with the thoughts that tell you you're failing, you're not doing enough, or you're not a good enough mom, grab my free Mom Guilt vs. God's Truth resource in the show notes. If this episode encouraged you, subscribe to The Rooted Mother and leave a review. Mom Burnout & Guilt: When Motherhood Feels Like Too Much | Right Now Is Not Forever
Are you an overwhelmed mom wondering if motherhood is always going to feel this hard? Maybe you're dealing with mom guilt, burnout, anger, anxiety, postpartum depression, exhaustion, or the feeling that you're trapped in a season that will never change. In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we're talking about the truth that right now is not forever. When motherhood feels like too much and you can't see a way forward, God hasn't forgotten you, and you were never meant to carry it all on your own. We're looking at Deuteronomy 31:8, where God promises that He goes before us, stays with us, and will never leave or forsake us. We'll also look at the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19, a man who reached the point of saying, “I've had enough, Lord,” and discover what his story teaches us about exhaustion, weakness, rest, and depending on God.I'll also share my personal experience with postpartum depression after having my fourth child, Joshua, eight years after my youngest. Having such a large age gap gave me something I didn't have when I experienced postpartum depression with my first three children: perspective. I could finally see right in front of me that the baby stage, sleepless nights, diapers, and constant demands of motherhood really do end.But knowing a season is temporary doesn't mean it's easy. You can love your children and still feel overwhelmed. You can be grateful for motherhood and still need a break. You can have faith and still have hard days. You can know this season will end and still need God to carry you through today. And that's the reminder I want you to take away from this episode:You don't have to carry forever today. You just have to let Jesus meet you in right now.If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who feels stuck, exhausted, guilty, or like you're failing, I hope this episode reminds you that God is with you in the middle of this season, and right now is not forever.✨ FREE RESOURCE: God's Truth vs. Mom GuiltIf you're struggling with mom guilt and need help replacing the lies you're believing with God's truth, grab my free God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt resource here:https://www.rootedandthrivingmama.com/gods-truth-vs-mom-guiltIf this episode encouraged you, please consider leaving a review and sharing it with another mom who needs the reminder that she isn't alone. You may feel alone, but feeling alone and being alone are not the same thing. When Motherhood Feels Heavy: What the Bible Really Says About Burdens
Have you ever looked at your life as a mom and thought, "Why does everything feel so heavy?"Maybe you've started seeing motherhood as a burden. Or maybe it's the endless responsibilities, the pressure to do it all, or the quiet belief that you'll never be enough. But what if we've been defining the word burden the way our culture does... instead of the way God does?In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we're opening the book of Numbers to discover a surprising truth about the Hebrew word for burden and how it completely changed the way I see motherhood. Together, we'll explore what it means to be entrusted with a sacred calling, why God often uses our greatest responsibilities to draw us closer to Him, and how to tell the difference between the burdens He's asking us to carry and the ones He never intended us to bear.If you've been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, this conversation is for you.✨ In this episode you'll discover:Why the biblical meaning of burden is different than you might thinkHow our culture has shaped the way we view motherhoodThe difference between a God-given calling and unnecessary emotional weightHow Jesus invites us to find rest without abandoning our responsibilitiesWhy dependence on God, not perfection, is the goal of Christian motherhood🎁 Free Resource: Download my free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to replace the lies of motherhood with the truth of God's Word. Is Anxiety Changing the Way You Read the Bible?
Have you ever opened your Bible, read the words "Do not be anxious about anything," and walked away feeling more discouraged than encouraged? If you've ever wondered whether your anxiety means you're failing God, lacking faith, or just "not getting it," this episode is for you.Today we're talking about something that completely changed the way I read Scripture: anxiety doesn't just affect our thoughts, it can affect the lens through which we read God's Word. We'll explore three common lies anxiety whispers to Christian moms:• "If I'm still anxious, I must not trust God enough."• "If I don't understand my Bible, I must not be close to God."• "If her faith journey looks different than mine, I must be doing something wrong."Together we'll look at what Scripture actually says, why God isn't asking you to have perfect faith, and how to approach the Bible with an anxious heart instead of believing the shame anxiety tries to pile on.If you've been carrying guilt, comparison, or fear into your quiet time, I pray this conversation helps you see God's heart more clearly.✨ In this episode you'll learn:Why anxiety changes the way we interpret ScriptureWhat Philippians 4:6 really meansWhy struggling with anxiety isn't the same as lacking faithHow to stop comparing your spiritual journey to someone else'sOne simple question to ask every time you open your BibleFree Resource:Download my Mom Guilt vs. God's Truth printable through the link in the show notes. Waiting on God? What the Wilderness Season Is Really Teaching You | Christian Encouragement for Moms
Have you ever wondered why God allows wilderness seasons? If you're waiting on God, struggling with anxiety, walking through mom burnout, facing postpartum depression, or simply wondering why life feels so hard right now, this episode is for you.In today's episode of The Rooted Mother, we're diving into Numbers 9 and uncovering a beautiful truth that completely changed the way I see seasons of waiting. For years, I believed the wilderness was where God had abandoned His people. But Scripture tells a different story. The wilderness wasn't punishment. It was preparation.I'll share my own story of moving to Pennsylvania, watching everything I thought God was building seem to fall apart, and how looking back, I can now see that God was preparing my family for something far greater than I could have imagined. We'll also explore how the wilderness appears throughout Scripture—from Moses to Elijah to Jesus—and why God so often does His deepest work in the seasons we would never choose for ourselves. If you've been asking: Why am I still waiting on God? Why does God allow difficult seasons? Is God still with me in my anxiety? How do I trust God when nothing seems to be changing? What does the Bible say about wilderness seasons? I pray this episode encourages your heart. In this episode, we'll talk about:• What the wilderness represents in the Bible • The surprising meaning of the Hebrew word midbar • Why God stopped Israel in the wilderness before the Promised Land • How remembering God's faithfulness strengthens our faith • What God may be teaching you during your waiting season • Why your wilderness isn't wastedScripture Mentioned Numbers 9 Exodus and the Passover Moses and the burning bush Elijah in the wilderness Jesus' forty days in the wilderness✨ Free Gift for You: If mom guilt has been weighing on your heart, I've created a free printable, God's Truth vs. Mom Guilt, to help you replace the lies with God's truth.
