You Don't Need Every Marketing Channel. You Do Need Marketing
Should you have an email list? Is social media still worth it? Do you really need a blog for SEO? What about Instagram ads? These are some of the most common marketing questions I hear from founders, and the answer is probably different than you think. In this episode of The Vignette Effect, I explain why no single marketing channel is required, but marketing your business absolutely is. Rather than asking whether you "have to" use Instagram, email marketing, blogging, or paid ads, the better question is how those channels work together to help people discover, trust, and eventually buy from you. Using a real coaching conversation as an example, I break down why email marketing and Instagram ads aren't competing strategies, why paid advertising works best when it's supporting an existing marketing system, and how to choose marketing activities that fit both your business goals and your actual capacity. Whether you're a service provider, creative entrepreneur, or founder trying to simplify your marketing strategy, this episode will help you think beyond individual tactics and build a sustainable marketing plan. In this episode: Do you really need social media for your business? Is email marketing still worth it? Do you need a blog to improve SEO? How to choose the right marketing channels Why your marketing should work as an ecosystem The relationship between Instagram, email marketing, SEO, and paid advertising When Facebook and Instagram ads actually make sense Why ads don't usually generate immediate sales How to market your business based on your goals and capacity The biggest mistake founders make when choosing marketing strategies Mentioned in this episode Book a free discovery call with Raquel Connect with me on Instagram: @raquel.furman Connect with Raquel If you're looking for brand strategy, creative direction, and practical marketing guidance that helps you make better marketing decisions, I'd love to connect. Build a Business That Fits You: Human Design, Visibility, and Founder Alignment with Marissa Liesenfelt
Building a successful business doesn't have to mean building it the same way everyone else does. In this episode of The Vignette Effect, I'm joined by intuitive business mentor and former BossBabe COO Marissa Liesenfelt for a conversation about human design, business strategy, authenticity, and creating a business that actually fits the way you're wired to work. After helping lead multiple eight-figure companies, Marissa realized that the business model she knew how to build wasn't the one she wanted to run. That realization led her deep into human design and eventually into helping founders understand how their natural strengths can shape everything from visibility and marketing to leadership and decision-making. We talk about why so many entrepreneurs end up following business advice that isn't actually designed for them, how to recognize when you're working against yourself, and why self-awareness isn't separate from business strategy. It's one of the most valuable tools you can have. If you've ever felt burned out by marketing, struggled with consistency, questioned whether you're building the right business, or wondered why certain strategies seem to work for everyone except you, this episode will give you a different way to think about growth. In this episode, you'll learn: What human design is and how entrepreneurs can use it in business Why business alignment matters just as much as business strategy Better ways to approach visibility and content creation Why burnout is often a signal instead of a personal failure How authenticity leads to stronger marketing and better decisions The role self-awareness plays in building a sustainable business Why your business should fit your life instead of the other way around Links mentioned in this episode: Magnetic Codes App with free report and a free month for listeners: magneticpowercodes.com/thevignetteeffect Marissa's website: https://www.marissaliesen.com Marissa on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marissaliesen Marissa on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marissaliesenfelt/ Connect with Raquel: Book a free intro call with Raquel: https://calendly.com/raquel-vignettebrandstudio/discovery Raquel on Instagram @raquel.furman If this conversation helped you think differently about your business, I'd love it if you'd subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with another founder who's trying to build a business that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

Why I Finally Started Showing Up on Camera (And What I've Learned So Far)
Showing up on camera isn't just a content strategy. For many founders, it's a mindset shift. In this episode of The Vignette Effect, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my own visibility experiment after committing to posting face-to-camera videos every day for 75 days as part of The Close Up Experience with Mike Ganino. People have been asking what inspired the shift, whether I'm participating in the Yap Challenge, and what it's actually been like to suddenly become much more visible online. So I'm sharing the real story. We explore why I chose a coaching program focused on becoming a better communicator instead of another content marketing course, what I've learned about the psychology of visibility, and why so much of showing up has less to do with algorithms and more to do with being willing to let people actually see you. Whether you're a founder, creative entrepreneur, coach, or service provider, this episode is for anyone who knows they have valuable ideas to share but hesitates every time they hit record. In this episode, we discuss: Why I joined The Close Up Experience The difference between optimizing your content and developing yourself as a communicator Why visibility is about much more than social media marketing How short-form video helps clarify your message Letting go of perfection and experimentation Why consistency matters more than individual post performance How showing your face builds trust in an increasingly AI-driven world What I've learned after my first days of posting daily videos Resources Mentioned Follow along with Raquel on Instagram: @raquel.furman Mike Ganino on Instagram: @mikeganino The Close Up Experience

Why Self-Awareness Makes You a Better Leader (with Cara Nance)
What if, instead of spending time trying to improve our weaknesses, the bigger opportunity is understanding and developing our strengths? This week, I'm joined by Cara Nance, founder of Tutum Leadership Coaching and a Gallup Certified CliftonStrengths Coach. We talk about how self-awareness shapes better leadership, why strengths-based coaching helps teams communicate more effectively, and how founders can use these insights to build businesses that align more closely with who they are. We also discuss why assessments like CliftonStrengths should be used for development rather than diagnosis, how understanding your natural tendencies can reduce burnout, and why creating a shared language around strengths leads to healthier, more collaborative teams. In this episode: What the CliftonStrengths assessment measures Why focusing on strengths often leads to better performance than fixing weaknesses How self-awareness improves leadership and communication The connection between strengths, energy, and burnout Why CliftonStrengths should never be used as a hiring assessment How teams build trust through a shared understanding of one another Ways founders can apply strengths-based thinking to their own businesses Why self-knowledge is one of the best investments you can make as a leader Connect with Cara:Tutum Leadership Coaching Website Cara Nance on Instagram Cara Nance on LinkedIn Cara Nance on YouTubeConnect with Raquel: Raquel on Instagram (@raquel.furman)Book a Free Intro Call Vignette Brand Studio Website

3 Science-Backed Ways to Unlock Your Creativity (Even If You Don't Think You're Creative)
3 Science-Backed Ways to Unlock Your Creativity (Even If You Don't Think You're Creative) A lot of people walk around convinced they're not creative. Raquel hears it constantly, especially from corporate clients who desperately need new ideas but somehow believe they're not the ones who get to have them. This episode pushes back on that, and gets into the brain science behind why your best ideas tend to show up in the shower, on a walk, or mid-daydream instead of when you're staring at the problem head-on. In this episode, you'll learn: What the default mode network is, and why it activates when you're walking, showering, or driving instead of when you're "trying" to think Why high-production, high-speed thinking (the mode most of us default to, especially with AI in the mix) actually works against creative problem-solving A reframe on what meditation is actually doing, using the visual of your mind shifting from a bustling city to a wide-open prairie The simple "what if" question technique that opens up branding, marketing, and business decisions you might not have considered How a Worst Possible Idea brainstorm (sometimes called blue sky thinking) gets a room past the fear of sharing a "bad" idea Why daydreaming isn't a productivity failure. What 20 Years in Marketing Actually Teaches You With Agency Founder Jared Harman
What 20 Years in Marketing Actually Teaches You With Agency Founder Jared Harman If you've ever hired an agency, been frustrated by one, or thought about building one yourself, you're going to want to hit play on this conversation. Jared Harman is the CEO and co-founder of One Group Agency, a full-service marketing agency based in Canada with 16 full-time, in-house team members. He's spent over two decades building brands across hospitality, sports, broadcasting, and now agency life, and he's here with Raquel on The Vignette Effect to talk about what's actually underneath a business built on long-term client relationships. In this episode, Raquel and Jared cover: Why restaurant and service industry experience is still some of the best training you can get for business (and why you should keep it on your resume) The non-linear career path that took Jared from sports radio and junior hockey to co-founding an agency in 2018 What he and his business partner Matt saw as the gap in the market for small and medium businesses that couldn't afford the big agency model Why One Group Agency keeps all service offerings in-house rather than contracting out, and what that makes possible for clients The relationship-building approach that's kept original clients with the agency for years What actually happens to client relationships during an acquisition, and why the "they'll never leave" assumption is the most dangerous one you can make How the agency went from 10 to 26 people overnight and what it took to restabilize The "set it and forget it" mentality that kills agency-client trust, and what Jared does instead Why new businesses often want to pour gas on the fire before they have the data to support it What Jared wishes someone had told him earlier Why he now believes the best marketing happens when you're not the one attached to the outcome The mindset shift that stuck: Jared talks about a hard-earned truth that most marketers don't arrive at until years in: you're not always the audience. When clients are too attached to their brand to see it from the outside, your job is to help them get to 30,000 feet. And the only way to do that is to get there yourself first. Why High Achievers Self-Sabotage (And What's Actually Going On Underneath) with Leslie M. Thornton
If you've ever had a wildly successful launch followed by a complete freeze or found yourself hesitating to send an email, show up on camera, or talk about what you do, this episode is going to feel uncomfortably familiar. In the best way. Raquel is joined by Leslie M. Thornton, founder of Hypnosis for Permanent Weight Loss (hpwl.co) and host of one of the top 1% most downloaded podcasts globally. Leslie is a former ICU nurse, certified NLP and hypnosis trainer, and someone who spent 20 years fighting her own battle with food and her body before discovering that the solution wasn't more willpower: it was working with the unconscious mind instead of against it. While Leslie's work centers on food and body image, this conversation goes deep into the patterns that run every high achiever: the triggers that cause self-sabotage, the stories we write when we don't have data, and the mindset that either keeps you stuck or helps you bounce back. In this episode: Why high-achieving women and entrepreneurs are especially vulnerable to unconscious self-sabotage The difference between meditation and hypnosis (and why it matters for getting unstuck) What Leslie calls 'dehypnosis' and why society has been running a program in your head for longer than you think How the fear of visibility often traces back to something much older than social media The real reason visualization alone doesn't work (and what to do instead) Leslie's approach to building a bounce-back rate: why sitting in the discomfort for 90 seconds actually moves you through it faster Why coaching might be the most important infrastructure investment in your business Connect with Raquel: Website: vignettebrandstudio.com Instagram: @raquel.furman Connect with Leslie: Website: hpwl.co Podcast: Hypnosis for Permanent Weight Loss

The Real Marketing Lessons Behind a $1.2M Launch
When Jessi Jean Home grew a brand new Instagram account to 350,000 followers and followed it with a $1.2 million launch, the internet had a lot to say. Most of the recaps missed the real marketing lessons underneath it. This episode breaks down what actually drove the results, what context gets left out of the viral conversation, and what small business owners can take away from it, regardless of their industry or how they feel about being on camera. What made it work Jessi's success didn't come from a new idea or a secret strategy. It came from executing proven marketing principles consistently and in her own voice. Understanding those principles is what makes results like this repeatable. In this episode: Reps over research: why getting into action beats waiting until you feel ready, and how consistent practice is the actual growth strategy behind her audience build Permission to suck: how giving yourself a timeline to be bad at something removes the barrier that keeps most people stuck before they start Content that pre-sells the offer: what it looks like when your content naturally positions what you're selling so that by launch day, your audience is already bought in Building for your audience vs. building for yourself: the nuance that gets skipped in most success story breakdowns Why bringing your own perspective to a crowded conversation is still one of the most effective marketing moves you can make This episode is for you if you've been watching someone else's success and wondering what you're missing, or if you know you need to get more visible but keep finding reasons to wait. What Sedona, Arizona, Can Teach You About Building a Brand
What Sedona, Arizona, Can Teach You About Building a Brand World If you've ever been to Sedona, Arizona, you already know there's something different about the place. The red rocks, the quiet, the particular pace of it. But what struck Raquel on her most recent trip wasn't just the beauty of it. It was how intentional all of it is, and how closely it mirrors the kind of brand world she talks about building with her clients. In this episode, Raquel uses Sedona as a real-world case study for brand guidelines that actually mean something. From height restrictions and color palettes pulled directly from the landscape, to a ban on reflective surfaces, to being a designated International Dark Sky area where lights go off at 10 p.m., every rule Sedona has put in place protects the same core value: the integrity of the natural world comes first. Even McDonald's, one of the most recognizable brands on the planet, had to swap their golden arches for teal ones to operate there. That's not just interesting trivia. That's a brand keeping its promise at every level. Raquel also gets into one of the most common early mistakes she sees with brands: the impulse to be for everyone. It feels generous, it feels safe, but what it actually does is dilute the experience for the exact people who would have loved what you were really building. Sedona could have said yes to rooftop bars, e-bikes on every trail, and late-night noise. They didn't. And the people who go there for the stillness, the stars, and the vortex energy show up more aligned and more grateful because of it. In this episode: Why Sedona's zoning guidelines are basically a brand guidelines document The teal McDonald's arches and what they tell us about non-negotiable values What it means to be an International Dark Sky area and why that's a brand promise, not just a rule The trap of trying to appeal to everyone, and who you actually end up repelling How to think about your brand as a town: what are the guidelines, and what are you protecting? The Questions Small Business Owners Are Asking About Marketing Right Now
This episode covers the marketing and branding questions showing up most in DMs and inboxes right now. The ones that come up in different forms but are really asking the same things. From growing an email list to standing out in a crowded industry, from navigating social media pressure to figuring out which platforms actually matter, Raquel brings her 25+ years of experience in marketing, creative direction, and brand strategy to give you clear, practical answers without the noise. In this episode: Growing your email list -- Why the most important thing isn't where you promote your list, it's how you describe the benefit of being on it. Raquel breaks down why generic copy fails, how to use your next email as a hook, and which channels (your website, Pinterest, YouTube) have staying power that Instagram doesn't. How to stand out Differentiation isn't something you brainstorm. It's something you uncover. Raquel explains why the things that make a brand truly distinct are already inside the founder's story, process, and point of view, and how excavating those elements is exactly what creates the Vignette Effect™. Do you have to be on social media? The honest answer is no. But you do need a plan. Raquel talks through platform fit, the meta loop of algorithm-chasing content, and what to consider if Instagram just isn't the right channel for how you work. Which platforms should you use? It's not about the platform. Raquel walks through how to evaluate tools based on what you actually need, shares her own tech stack (Kit + Showit), and gets specific about where Canva serves you and where it can quietly work against your brand. How to show up in search The most basic SEO truth: if you want to rank for something, those words need to be on your website. Raquel covers intentional search strategy, why blogging is far from dead, the connection between traditional SEO and AI search results, and why real results take time but compound in ways nothing else does. Protecting Your Brand: IP Basics Every Founder Needs to Know with Nuzayra Haque-Shah
Protecting Your Brand: IP Basics Every Founder Needs to Know with Nuzayra Haque-Shah hosted by Raquel Furman If you've ever wondered whether you actually own your brand name, your course content, your frameworks, or the images you create - this episode is for you. I sat down with Nuzarya Haque-Shah, intellectual property attorney and founder of Legally Savvy CEO, to dig into one of the most important and most overlooked layers of building a brand. Whether you're just getting started or you've been in business for years, there's a very real chance you have blind spots here - and Nuzarya makes all of it approachable, clear, and genuinely empowering. What We Cover IP Basics for Brand Owners Nuzarya walks through the four major types of intellectual property rights every founder should know: trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets. We go beyond the definitions and into what actually matters for your business - including why Nuzarya considers every business built in 2026 to be, at its core, an IP business. Why You Shouldn't Wait to Register Your Trademark One of the most common (and expensive) mistakes founders make is deciding to register once the brand "proves itself." Nuzarya explains why that logic backfires - from the investor perspective, to the SEO and searchability consequences, to the very real scenario where someone else registers your name, and you're stuck either rebranding or litigating. We also talk through what consumer confusion really means legally, and why two businesses in completely different industries can still end up in a trademark dispute. The Cease and Desist Story You Need to Hear Nuzarya shares the story of a client who received a federal trademark infringement lawsuit - and threw it in the trash twice because she assumed it was spam. What happened next is a wake-up call for any small business owner who thinks they're too small to get sued. How to Monetize Your IP Through Licensing. This is the part of the conversation most founders never think about. Once you've protected your work, you can put it to work. Nuzarya shares a remarkable client story: a real estate coach who licensed his course to Spanish-speaking coaches across Latin America and generated seven figures in passive royalty income - without translating a word of it himself. She also shares how her early career at a startup taught her to turn counterfeit infringers into licensed partners, creating a new revenue stream in the process. AI-Generated Content and Copyright in 2026. We address the question everyone is asking: if you use AI to write your blogs, create graphics, or build course content - who owns it? Nuzarya breaks down where US copyright law stands right now, what it means for your business, and what's still up in the air when it comes to patents and AI-assisted code. She also tackles the ethical question of how AI sources public content and where the law is beginning to draw the line. Where to Start Your IP Audit. Not sure where to begin? Nuzarya gives clear, practical guidance on how to self-audit your business and how to work with an IP attorney to get a full roadmap - without it being overwhelming or expensive. Without registration, you can't enforce against someone who takes your name - or stop them from outranking you. Copyrights are small but mighty. Most written work, course content, photography, audio, and video can be registered with the US Copyright Office yourself for as little as $65. Patents are powerful but reserved for inventions. Most service-based businesses won't need them - but every business has trademarks, and most have copyrights. Trade secrets exist in your business, whether you've named them or not. Anything that would hurt your competitive edge if disclosed qualifies. AI-generated content currently cannot be protected under US copyright law because it wasn't created by a human. That could change, but right now, if you want to protect it, you need a human hand in its creation. Licensing turns your IP into a revenue engine. Once you own the rights, you can let others handle the selling and collect royalties.

You Have the Domain, But Do You Own the Brand?
You’ve registered your business name, bought the domain, and locked in your Instagram handle. So you own your brand… right? Not exactly. In this episode of The Vignette Effect, Raquel is opening up a conversation that a lot of small business owners don’t think about until it’s too late: trademarking, copyright, and what it actually means to own your brand. This isn’t legal advice but it is a grounded, real-world look at how intellectual property shows up in creative businesses and why it matters more as you grow. Raquel shares personal stories from early in her career, including: The first time one of her photographs was taken and used without permission A behind-the-scenes experience where her creative work was recreated by a major brand What she learned from working alongside artist agents and industry leaders educating creatives on copyright She also breaks down some of the most common assumptions small business owners make, like: “I have the LLC and domain, so I own the name” “My business is small, so this isn’t a concern yet” “I’ll deal with it later if I need to” And why those assumptions can become risky depending on where your business is headed. You’ll also hear a powerful example of how trademarking can turn your brand into a true business asset, including how frameworks, methods, and branded systems can be protected and even licensed. This episode is designed to get you thinking differently about your brand, not just as something you’ve created, but as something you may want to protect and build equity in over time. And in the next episode, Raquel sits down with an intellectual property attorney to go deeper into the legal side of all of this, so make sure you’re following the show so you don’t miss it.Connect with Raquel: Instagram @raquel.furman (DM Raquel on Instagram to share your own trademark or copyright story) Book a discovery call hereDisclaimer: This episode isn't legal advice. The Part AI Can't Do For You
If your marketing isn't working, the problem probably isn't effort. You're posting consistently, showing up on the platforms, doing all the things, and something still isn't clicking. This episode is about why that happens, and what actually fixes it. Brand strategist and coach Raquel Furman breaks down the two layers every small-business brand needs to work on: the technical layer (how people find you) and the visceral layer (why they care). Most business owners are only working on one. That's where the plateau lives. Why your brand strategy isn't working A lot of small business owners hit a wall not because they're doing the wrong things, but because they have blind spots inside the systems they're already using. Your website, SEO, email marketing, and social media. Each of these platforms is more nuanced than it looks from the outside. Raquel shares a real example of two business owners who both said Pinterest "didn't work" and what was actually going on. It's rarely the platform. It's almost always the setup. The part of brand building AI can't do for you Using AI tools for your brand before you've developed your own creative vision is one of the most common mistakes Raquel sees right now. When you skip the brand foundations, your point of view, your messaging, the meaning behind what you do, and hand it to a tool, you end up with content that's possibly polished but likely forgettable. People can feel when something wasn't written by a person. Raquel gets specific about where AI can genuinely help with efficiency, and where leaning on it makes your brand harder to build. How to build a brand people actually connect with The visceral layer is where most brands often plateau. You can have a technically solid marketing plan and still cap out if there's nothing there for people to feel. This is the layer where your brand voice, visual storytelling, and emotional resonance live. It's also the layer most business owners already have more of than they think. It just hasn't been brought to the surface yet. In this episode: - Why "I tried it, and it didn't work" is almost always a setup problem, not a platform problem - How to spot the blind spots inside your own brand and marketing ecosystem - The difference between the technical layer and the visceral layer of a brand, and why you need both - Why AI for brand strategy works against you when you reach for it too soon - How to build a brand voice and point of view that makes people feel something - Why most small business brands are closer to a breakthrough than they think The Vignette Effect is a podcast for small business owners and creative founders who want to build a brand that's clear, expressive, and built to last. Design Beyond Aesthetics: How It Shapes Your Entire Marketing Ecosystem
What this episode covers: The ambiguity of the word “design” and how it’s used across industries Why design is more than visuals in branding and marketing The difference between form and function in design How “clean and minimal” websites can lose clarity The gap between SEO visibility and user experience What happens after someone clicks on your website How design organizes information and guides decision-making The role of design in shaping the customer journey Why your website is an “open house” for your business How brand, messaging, visuals, and structure work together Key takeaways: Design is both aesthetic and functional Visibility alone does not lead to conversion Clarity comes from structure and intentional organization A website must guide, not just present information Design connects every part of your marketing ecosystem Links: Book a call with Raquel here. Be the Editor of Your Brand (Not the Content Machine)
Be the Editor of Your Brand (Not the Content Machine) You've got the content. You've got the clients. You've got the email list, the engagement, the offers. So why does something still feel a little off? If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you. Raquel breaks down one of the most useful frameworks in brand strategy: thinking about your brand like a magazine and stepping into the role of editor. And she uses Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine in The Devil Wears Prada, as the ultimate case study. What an editor actually does An editor isn't writing every article, shooting every campaign, or producing every piece of content. What they're doing is deciding what makes it in. That decision-making role is exactly what's missing for a lot of small business owners and creative founders who are deep in creation mode and wondering why it's not clicking together. The problem usually isn't that you need more. It's that there's no through line connecting what you already have. Your brand strategy is your filter Brand strategy is what gives you the framework to make those editorial calls. What do you want to be known for? What's the through line in your messaging? What belongs and what doesn't? These aren't small questions, but answering them is what lets you stop second-guessing every piece of content you create and start leading with clarity. Raquel also addresses the fear that comes with getting more specific in your messaging. Getting focused doesn't mean you can't offer multiple things. It means those things have something that connects them. Miranda Priestly and the "florals for spring" moment The classic scene from the film where someone pitches florals for spring, and Miranda responds with "florals for spring, groundbreaking" isn't really about the florals. It's about having a clear enough vision to know immediately what fits and what falls short of where you're trying to go. That's the editorial lens. That's what brand strategy builds. What editing looks like in practice Being the editor of your brand sometimes means cutting things that were working. Things you liked. Things that brought in revenue. Raquel shares her own experience phasing out photography work to go all-in on brand strategy, and why that trapeze moment, letting go before you've fully grabbed the next thing, is part of the process. It also means you don't have to have everything mapped out before you can lead. Miranda didn't walk into those pitch meetings with the whole issue planned. She had the vision, and she used the ideas in the room to refine it. That's the move. If your brand feels pieced-together, this is where to start Most of the clients Raquel works with aren't starting from scratch. They've built something real. They just need to step back, calibrate, and decide what actually makes the cut. That's the editorial pass. And it's usually what takes a brand from good to pulled-together. What Small Businesses Can Learn from Six-Figure Website Proposals
What can small businesses learn from six-figure website proposals? A lot more than you might think. In this episode, Raquel takes you behind the scenes of reviewing multiple agency RFPs for a major website project and reveals a surprising truth. The Real Thing: Pamela Anderson, Aerie, and Why Authenticity Is Your Brand's Greatest Asset
Raquel Furman of The Vignette Effect is known for turning brand strategy into something creative entrepreneurs can actually use, and this episode is a perfect example of that. Using the newly released Pamela Anderson x Aerie campaign as a launching point, Raquel unpacks what it really looks like to build a brand around authenticity in a way that is strategic, not just surface-level. What is covered in this episode: Pamela Anderson's personal brand evolution and how she took back control of her own narrative through her memoir, her Netflix documentary, and her no-makeup Fashion Week appearance that put her on the cover of People Magazine The brand strategy behind Sonsie Skin, Pamela's clean, vegan, cruelty-free skincare line, including how they use cinematic storytelling, character-based content, and brand restraint to create a cohesive and elevated presence Why Aerie's longstanding no-retouching policy and their new "You can't prompt this" campaign commitment to no AI-generated people makes the Pamela Anderson partnership so perfectly aligned, and what that stance means for the beauty and fashion industry at large How Pamela's collaboration with Flamingo Estate on her heirloom pickle recipe is a masterclass in values-aligned brand partnerships Raquel's honest take on the growing use of AI-generated imagery in beauty and fashion advertising, and why it raises the bar even higher for brands willing to show up as genuinely real The practical, actionable side of all of this: how small business owners and creative entrepreneurs can tap into their own point of view, develop a body of work that holds together visually and tonally, and resist the pull of trends that do not serve their brand See the Pamela Anderson and Aerie campaign video here. The Blueprint You Were Born With: Human Design for Brand and Business Alignment with Matalya Onuoha
If you've been building your business by someone else's rules and wondering why it keeps feeling off, this episode is going to hit differently. Raquel sits down with Matalya Onuoha, human design strategist and founder of Rewrite Coaching, for a conversation about what it actually looks like to build a business around your natural energy, your strengths, and the way you're genuinely designed to work. This is the kind of conversation that makes things click. Not just for how you run your business, but for how you show up in your brand, your marketing, and your client experience. Matalya is a certified human design and quantum human design practitioner with a background in psychology, NLP, EFT, and somatic modalities. As a 1-3 emotional projector, she's guided women around the world through her Clarity to Prosperity Framework, helping them move from uncertainty about their next step to building signature businesses that are profitable and deeply aligned. In this episode, they cover: What human design is and why it's one of the most practical self-knowledge tools available for entrepreneurs and coaches. Why so many business owners feel like they're constantly working against themselves, and how knowing your human design type changes that. A full breakdown of all five human design types (generators, manifesting generators, manifestors, projectors, and reflectors) and what each one means for how you build, market, and sustain your business. The "big three" in human design, your type, strategy, and authority, and why following just those three things is enough to completely shift your trajectory. How your profile numbers shape the way you market yourself, attract clients, and grow your business in a way that doesn't drain you. Why Raquel's own discovery of being a 2-4 manifestor explained so much about her approach to launches, her need for creative white space, and why most of her clients have always come through her existing network. How human design applies directly to brand strategy and building a client experience that works with your energy instead of against it. Where to start if you're brand new to human design, and what to look for once you run your chart. Matalya also makes the point that human design isn't about having all the answers overnight. It's about having something reliable to come back to as you make decisions in your business and your life, and that's where the real shift happens. This episode is for you if: You're an entrepreneur, coach, or creative who's ready to stop forcing a business model that doesn't fit. You've been in business for a while, but your marketing, offers, or workflow still don't feel quite right. What the FAQ is Brand Design vs Brand Styling, and Which One Do You Need?
In today's What the FAQ episode of The Vignette Effect, Raquel Furman is clearing up one of the most commonly confused pairs of terms in the branding world: brand design and brand styling. While they both contribute to how a brand looks and feels, they're not the same thing, and knowing the difference can save business owners a lot of time, money, and creative frustration. Raquel walks through exactly what brand design is: a complete visual identity system that includes a full logo suite, color palette, typography, iconography, image style, textures, patterns, and brand guidelines built to last for years and scale across every touchpoint, from website to packaging to in-person experiences. Brand design is the deep, comprehensive investment that a business makes when it's established, clear on strategy, and ready to commit to a visual identity for the long term. Brand styling, on the other hand, is a simplified but intentional design system built for businesses that need to look professional and cohesive right now but may not yet be ready for the full investment of a complete brand identity. A brand styling package typically includes a curated color palette, a font pairing, a wordmark or text-based logo, and an image style. It's clean, functional, and gives a business a real foundation to build on while things continue to develop. And critically, as Raquel points out, brand styling isn't a lesser version of brand design. It's the right tool for the right season of business. Before either option, though, comes brand strategy. Raquel breaks down why skipping brand strategy and going straight to visuals is one of the most common reasons businesses end up redesigning every year and a half. She also draws a clear distinction between design strategy, which is the process a designer uses to inform visual direction, and brand strategy, which is the deeper foundation that shapes messaging, positioning, content, pitching, and the full way a business shows up in the world. Raquel then walks through practical real-life scenarios that help listeners identify exactly which option fits their current stage, including what to do when you don't have any brand assets at all, when you have pieces that aren't working together, and when a color palette looks beautiful as swatches but completely fails in actual application. She introduces the idea of a functional color system and explains why a logo and a handful of colors don't constitute a brand system. This episode is a practical guide for any entrepreneur who's ever felt stuck, scattered, or unsure about where to start or what to invest in when it comes to branding. Topics covered in this episode: What brand design actually includes, and when a business is ready for it What brand styling is and how it serves early-growth and transitional businesses Why brand strategy must come before any visual decisions The difference between brand strategy and design strategy Why a functional color palette isn't the same as pretty swatches How to identify which season of business you're in Real symptoms of a brand that's been pieced together rather than designed How brand styling can inform and lead into a future full brand design Connect with Raquel: Instagram: @raquel.furman and join the one-on-one coaching waitlist here:

Unsexy Branding Advice for Small Brands Who Want to Get It Right
Let's talk about the stuff nobody puts in the highlight reel. In this episode of The Vignette Effect, Raquel breaks down the unsexy but essential branding advice she gives to small brands and early-stage entrepreneurs who are ready to stop winging it and start building something that actually lasts. This episode covers: Brand strategy and business foundations - why skipping this step is the number one reason small brands stall out, and what it actually means to build a marketing and sales ecosystem that works for your business model and capacity Finding real revenue opportunities early - the story of a client who generated $40–45K in a 10-day membership launch with outdated visual branding and a tiny email list, and what that teaches us about sequencing Getting visible as a founder - why personal branding for small business owners isn't about being an influencer, it's about building recognition, connection, and trust around your ideas before someone's even ready to buy Why you might want to hold off on full brand identity design - a branding person telling you not to invest in branding yet? Raquel explains the difference between brand styling and brand identity design, and why doing the latter too soon is one of the most common (and costly) small business mistakes Testing vs. constantly changing things - how to actually iterate on your messaging and offers without confusing your audience or disappearing into the noise Raquel also gets into the whole AI content-flagging situation on Instagram (yes, it happened twice, and yes, it was as annoying as it sounds), and why nuance will always require more than a carousel. Whether you're in the first few years of business, thinking about a rebrand, or just feel like something in your marketing isn't clicking - this episode is the reality check and the roadmap you didn't know you needed. Why Overthinking Is Blocking Your Brand Messaging and How to Break Through It
Why Overthinking Gets in the Way of Clear MessagingWhen founders work on brand messaging, the default move is often to start writing. More specifically, writing in a way that sounds polished or “right.” That’s where messages can quickly become vague or overly refined, and start to drift away from how the business is actually described in conversation.Brand Clarity Is an Articulation ProblemRaquel reframes brand clarity as an articulation issue rather than a thinking issue. The clearest brands aren’t the ones doing the most mental work. They’re the ones who’ve learned how to explain what they do in real, human language. Articulation means letting ideas move out of your head and into the world through talking, writing, answering questions, and having conversations.Talking and Writing as a Clarity PracticeArticulation is a mix of talking and writing. Saying things out loud. Putting imperfect words on the page. Responding to questions. These early ideas are where clarity starts to form. Once that clarity exists, it becomes much easier to shape it into copy for a website, a sales page, or a marketing channel, adjusting length and emphasis as needed without losing the core message.Practical Ways to Practice ArticulationRaquel shares several ways to test and refine your messaging in real time:Recording voice notes to talk through what you do, who you help, and why it mattersRepeating ideas until they feel natural enough to say to someone face to faceUsing simple prompts like what you help people with or why your work mattersPaying attention to questions that come up in DMs, emails, discovery calls, and sales conversationsThese practices help surface where language feels clear and where it still needs work.Paying Attention to Real-Life FeedbackOne of the most important parts of articulation is observing how people respond. Do they lean in? Do they repeat your words back to you? Do they ask more questions? That kind of real-life feedback offers more insight than any worksheet or framework. While not everyone will understand the nuance of your work the way an ideal client would, people shouldn’t be completely confused about what you do. Lack of nuance is normal. Total confusion is a signal. Why Brand Clarity Develops Over TimeBrand clarity isn’t something you figure out once and move on from. There’s a place for workshops, prompts, and structured brand strategy work. But clarity gets stronger when ideas are tested in the real world and refined through conversation. The brands that feel effortless and pulled together are often the result of consistent articulation, conversation, and refinement over time.Want to keep the conversation going or get support with your brand messaging?Connect with Raquel on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/raquel.furmanVisit Vignette Brand Studio:https://vignettebrandstudio.comBook a discovery call:Curious what working together on your brand strategy could look like?https://calendly.com/raquel-vignettebrandstudio/discovery

Creative Courage in Branding
There’s branding that’s technically checking all the boxes, and then there’s branding that’s alive. In today’s episode, Raquel is talking about the thing she believes separates truly magnetic brands from the ones that feel like they were built by committee: creative courage.Because the brands that are winning right now aren’t just clear and consistent. They’re doing something a little unexpected, a little expressive, and unmistakably them. And no, this doesn’t mean neon green logos or chaotic rebrands. It means commitment. Taste. And sometimes, the smallest details becoming the loudest signal.Raquel shares a personal story that perfectly captures the concept (including her teenage era of blue mascara and literally piercing her fingernails), then connects it to branding, founder-led marketing, and the power of signature choices that make people stop scrolling. In this episode, Raquel covers:What “creative courage” actually means in branding (and what it isn’t)Why standing out can feel risky, even when you know it mattersHow her personal style became a blueprint for brand expressionThe subtle ways we shrink when we’re afraid of being judged (hello, small-town comments)Brand examples that nail creative courage:Gucci’s wildly bold brand experience choicesFishwife turning tinned fish into a cultural momentSpanx standing out in a painfully boring category with design + visibilityWant help making this real (without going full Gucci)? There are always ways to bring bold creative choices to life without a luxury-fashion budget. Why Personal Branding Matters More Than Ever in 2026 (Even If You’re Not the Face of the Brand)
Personal branding gets a bad rap. For many founders, it brings up images of influencer culture, forced visibility, or turning a business into a constant “look at me” show. In this episode, Raquel breaks down why that definition misses the point entirely. She shares what personal branding actually means, why it’s becoming non-negotiable in 2026 and beyond, and how it quietly influences a brand's success, sustainability, and scalability, whether or not the founder is front and center.Inside this episode, Raquel covers:What personal branding really is, and what it definitely is notWhy your personal brand acts as the seed of your business, even if your brand isn’t about youHow brand clarity supports delegation, growth, and eventually stepping back from day-to-day workThe connection between personal brand clarity, energy capacity, and the life you’re building alongside your businessWhy generic content is everywhere, and why lived experience, values, and point of view are becoming the real differentiatorsHow founder vision shapes brand voice, messaging, and consistency over timeWhy personal branding isn’t about being louder or more visible, but about being intentional and recognizableThis episode is especially for creative entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners who want to build brands that last, attract aligned clients, and feel human in an increasingly automated world. If this conversation sparked something for you, you can book a free discovery call to explore how brand clarity and personal branding can support the next phase of your business. 2026 Brand & Marketing Predictions: How to Build a Clear, Human Brand That Connects
I’m sharing my 2026 brand and marketing predictions, not from a place of hype or trend-forecasting for the sake of it, but from what I’m seeing actually working with real brands right now. What’s emerging is quieter, more intentional, and honestly, more hopeful. In this conversation, I walk through why the brands that will thrive in 2026 won’t necessarily be the loudest, the biggest, or the most visible everywhere. They’ll be the ones with clarity. A point of view. And a brand experience that feels human and considered over time. Here’s what I cover:Why authentic, thoughtfully designed brand experiences matter more than flashy campaignsHow AI can support your work without replacing your voice, taste, or perspectiveWhy being selective about platforms is a smart, strategic move, not a limitationHow brand clarity becomes a serious competitive advantage when things shiftWhy visual storytelling does so much of the heavy lifting before a single word is readHow trends are losing their authority, and why trusting your instincts matters moreWhat the shift away from hustle culture means for building real communities, not just audiencesWhen you step back, all of these predictions point to the same thing:Less noise. More intention. More humanity. If this episode resonated, it’s probably because you’re already sensing this shift and craving it in your own brand. If your messaging, visuals, or direction feel scattered or heavier than they need to be, I’d love to have a conversation. You can book a no-pressure discovery call through the link in the show notes. Create Meaningful Progress in Your Brand in 2026
In this episode, I’m sharing the real difference between brands that grow and brands that stay stuck. Not perfect timing, not perfect clarity, and not even perfect strategy. What To Do When Your Messaging Isn’t Landing (And How To Fix It Fast)
In today’s episode, I’m diving into why your messaging might not be connecting and what you can do to fix it quickly. Messaging is all about communicating the value of what you offer, and if people aren’t taking action, it usually means they haven’t heard what they need to hear yet. It’s not a sign that your offer is bad. It’s simply a sign that your message needs more clarity. Here’s what I cover in this episode:• A simple way to understand what messaging actually is• Clear signs your messaging isn’t working• Why things that feel obvious to you aren’t always apparent to your audience• The easiest way to get clarity• What to listen for when you gather feedback• How small changes in your message can create a big shift in connection and salesMessaging challenges aren’t personal; they’re part of building a strong brand and learning how to communicate in a way your audience instantly understands. A few conversations and a clearer explanation of what you offer can make all the difference.Links mentioned:Book a free discovery call: https://calendly.com/raquel-vignettebrandstudio/discoveryConnect with me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/raquel.furman
