Thrive principle of Thrive | Episode 6 - Nourish, Don’t Restrict
What comes to mind when you hear the word diet?Less food?Cutting carbohydrates?Giving up the foods you enjoy?Trying to be “good” Monday to Friday? For decades, we’ve been taught that improving our health means taking things away.Eat less. Restrict more. Control yourself. Try harder. But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question? What if instead of asking:“What do I need to remove?”We started asking:“What does my body need from me?”In Episode 6 of The Principles of Thrive, we explore Nourish, Don’t Restrict — a different way of thinking about food, health and ultimately how we care for ourselves.Because your body isn’t something you need to constantly fight, punish or fix.It needs your support.🌿 Why years of restriction can create an unhealthy relationship with food.🌿 The difference between controlling your body and learning to support it.🌿 Why nourishment is about far more than simply eating “healthy” foods.🌿 How protein, carbohydrates, fibre, hydration and sufficient food can support energy, training and everyday life.🌿 The restriction cycle:Restriction → Hunger → Cravings → Reactive eating → Guilt → More restrictionAnd how we can begin creating a different environment:Nourishment → Energy → Satiety → Better decisions → Consistency → ConfidenceNot perfection.A more supportive environment.Nourishment isn't simply what you put on your plate. It's what you allow into your life.Food.Movement.Sleep.Stillness.Relationships.Connection.Nature.Purpose.Meaning.Laughter.And perhaps we also need to become curious about what we're regularly consuming that takes energy away. Not from a place of judgement. From awareness.Take a moment and ask yourself:Where in my health am I currently trying to restrict when perhaps I need to nourish? And then:What is my body actually asking from me?Don't rush to answer.Become curious. For the next seven days, don't begin by removing anything.Instead...Add one nourishing action.Maybe that's:🥚 Protein with breakfast.🥦 Vegetables with dinner.💧 A bottle of water on your desk.🍎 Fruit with lunch.🥗 One nourishing meal each day.🍚 Carbohydrates around your training. Then simply notice. How is my energy? How is my hunger? How is my focus? How is my training? How do I feel? Before asking what you need to take away, become curious about what happens when you give your body more of what it actually needs.“Stop asking how little your body can survive on.Start asking what it needs to thrive.”If you've listened to this episode and recognise yourself in some of what I've spoken about — perhaps you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed or simply unsure about what your health needs from you right now — I'd be happy to have a conversation. This isn't a sales call, and there's no pressure or expectation to work with me.It's simply an opportunity for us to talk about where you currently are, where you'd like to be, and hopefully give you some greater clarity, focus and support around what your next steps could look like.Book a free conversation with meRemember...Your body isn't an inconvenience standing between you and your goals. It's the vehicle that allows you to pursue them.To work.To lead.To train. To think. To play with your children. To travel. To love.To experience this life.So perhaps it's time we stopped asking how much we can take away...and started asking what we can give back.Nourish your body.Support your mind.Give yourself the energy to become the person you're capable of being.Keep moving.Keep nourishing.Keep finding stillness. And above all...Keep thriving. 🌿

When was the last time you were truly still? Not scrolling. Not checking emails. Not watching TV.Not thinking about what needs doing next.Just... still. For many of us, particularly when we're balancing career, business, family, relationships and our own health, life has become a constant stream of noise, responsibility and stimulation. And when we're already overwhelmed, our instinct is often to ask:"How can I fit more in?"But sometimes the better question is:"Where can I create space?"In Episode 5 of The Principles of Thrive, we explore Stillness Creates Clarity - and why learning to intentionally step away from the noise may be one of the most powerful things you can do for your health, relationships and performance.Stillness isn't about escaping your responsibilities. It's about creating enough space to return to them with greater clarity and intention.🌿 Why constant stimulation and fragmented attention can leave us mentally exhausted.🌿 Why stillness doesn't need to mean meditation or sitting quietly for hours.🌿 How creating space can help us respond rather than react.🌿 Why your attention is one of your most valuable resources.🌿 How just five minutes of intentional stillness can reconnect you with what actually matters.🌿 Why sometimes your mind doesn't need another answer, plan or productivity strategy - it simply needs less.🌿 In this episode, we explore:🌿 Thrive Quote"Nowhere can man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul."— Marcus AureliusStillness isn't somewhere you have to go.It's something you learn to create. If you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or know that your health and wellbeing have gradually been pushed further down the priority list, I'd love to help.Visit the Thrive Method website and book your free Health & Wellbeing Strategy Call. We'll take the time to understand where you are now, what is currently getting in the way, and begin creating a personalised approach that helps you regain your energy, focus and connection with the person you want to be.🌿 Ready to Create More Space in Your Own Life?🌿 About The Principles of ThriveThe Principles of Thrive is a seven-part podcast series exploring the philosophy that underpins everything we teach at Thrive. Each episode introduces one principle designed to help you build lasting health, greater energy and a deeper connection with the person you're becoming. This isn't about chasing perfection. It's about learning to live with greater awareness, alignment and intention - one principle at a time.

The Principles of Thrive | Episode 3: Respond, Don't React
Have you ever found yourself saying something you wish you could take back?Reached for food when you weren't hungry.Picked up your phone without thinking.Or reacted in a way that didn't truly reflect the person you want to be?The truth is, many of our daily decisions aren't conscious at all-they're automatic patterns we've repeated so often they feel like the only option. But what if there was another way?In this episode, we explore the third Principle of Thrive: Respond, Don't React. You'll discover why lasting change isn't about having more willpower—it's about creating the space between what happens to you and how you choose to respond.Through a real coaching story, behavioural science and the timeless wisdom of Viktor Frankl, you'll learn how one small pause can become the beginning of lasting transformation.🌿 Why our brains default to familiar reactions.🌿 The difference between reacting emotionally and responding intentionally.🌿 How awareness creates the space for choice.🌿 Why every response is a vote for the person you're becoming.🌿 How small, intentional decisions gradually reshape your identity.Where in your life do you tend to react before you've given yourself the chance to respond? This week, notice one recurring moment that normally leads to an automatic reaction. When that moment arrives, Pause.Take one slow breath. Then ask yourself:"What would the person I'm becoming choose next?"Or simply..."What do I need in this moment?"One breath. One pause. One intentional response."Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."- Viktor FranklRemember, Life will always present you with moments that invite reaction. But every pause is an opportunity.Every pause is a choice.Every choice is a step towards the person you're becoming.Keep moving.Keep nourishing.Keep finding stillness. And above all...Keep thriving.🌿 About the Principles of ThriveThe Principles of Thrive is a seven-part podcast series exploring the philosophy that underpins everything we teach at Thrive. Each episode introduces one principle designed to help you build lasting health, greater energy and a deeper connection with the person you're becoming. This isn't about chasing perfection. It's about learning to live with greater awareness, alignment and intention-one principle at a time.In this episode, we explore: Thrive Reflection, Thrive Practice, Thrive Quote

Why High Performers Still Get Stuck - Steve Woods
In this episode of the Thrive Method Podcast, I sit down with Steve Woods, hypnotist and mental performance specialist, to explore why so many high performers still feel blocked, stuck, or unable to follow through - even when they know exactly what they should be doing. We dive into:Why people struggle with the “shoulds” in lifeHow mental fatigue, stress, and anxiety shape behaviourWhy habits like overeating, avoidance, procrastination, and self-sabotage often come from deeper emotional patternsHow hypnosis can help rewire old stories, build confidence, and create new performance habitsWhy gratitude, self-awareness, and being kinder to yourself are more powerful than most people realiseThis episode is a powerful listen for anyone who feels like they’ve got the drive, ambition, and potential, but keep hitting invisible blocks.Because often, the issue isn’t laziness. It’s the pattern running underneath the surface. If you want to perform better in business, sport, health, or life, this conversation will give you a lot to reflect on.

You Don’t Fix Habits Through Shame - You Fix Them Through Awareness
Most people don’t struggle with discipline. They struggle with understanding the pattern. In this episode of the Thrive Method Podcast, I break down the exact habits framework I recently delivered at Humanity, a simple but powerful way to move away from self-sabotage and towards aligned, sustainable change.Because here’s the truth:You’re not lazy. You’ve just trained the wrong pattern. And anything trained… can be retrained.Inside this episode, we explore the Thrive approach to habit change:• Why habits are emotional patterns, not character flaws• How stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion drive your behaviours• Why shame keeps you stuck (and awareness sets you free)• How to move from reactive habits to aligned actionsAnd most importantly…How to pause, create space, and ask:“What do I truly need in this moment?”Because that’s where change begins. If this resonates, don’t just listen, apply it.Ask yourself:What habit frustrates me most right now? When does it usually show up?What emotion sits underneath it?What would my aligned self choose instead — even at 60%?If you’re stuck in the same cycle, you’re not broken. You just haven’t seen the pattern clearly yet.Take Action💬 If this hit home, comment PATTERN and I’ll send you the exact questions and framework I use with my clients.

Discipline Isn’t the Problem — Alignment Is
Most men & women in their 40s don’t lose discipline. They lose alignment.Between career, business, family, and responsibility, it’s easy to drift away from the person you know you’re capable of being. You start the year strong.Training consistently.Eating well.Feeling focused. Then life ramps up.More pressure.More deadlines.More people are depending on you.And slowly, you drift. Not because you’re weak. But because you’ve become disconnected from yourself - your values, your identity, and the direction you actually want to be heading. In this episode of the Thrive Method Podcast, we explore why trying to push harder isn’t the answer - and why real change comes from realignment, not more pressure. You’ll learn:• Why high-performing people drift away from their edge• Why discipline alone isn’t the solution• The power of stillness and recalibration• How small moments of alignment rebuild energy, focus, and confidenceBecause when your actions align with your values again, everything changes. You stop just surviving the pressure of life. You start thriving within it.If you feel like you’ve drifted away from your edge, this episode will help you reconnect with it.

You’re not lazy. You’ve just trained the wrong pattern.
In this episode of the Thrive Method Podcast, we break down why “bad habits” aren’t proof you lack discipline; they’re trained coping patterns that once helped you manage stress, overwhelm, exhaustion, or restriction.I’ll walk you through the Thrive process for changing habits in a way that actually sticks:1) Anchor (Why + Identity) – Get clear on who you’re becoming and why it matters.2) Awareness – Identify the habit and exactly when it shows up.3) Curiosity (not judgment) – What feelings, emotions, and beliefs sit underneath it?4) Alignment – Choose the next best action that matches your ultimate self (even at 60%).You’ll also get a simple real-world strategy to make low “red energy” habits harder to reach… and “green energy” habits easier to follow. What habit frustrates me most right now? When does it usually show up?What emotion sits underneath it?What would my aligned self choose instead - even at 60%?If you’re stuck in the same cycle, you’re not broken; you just haven’t been shown the pattern yet.Reflection (take action on this)

Creating Thriving Environments for Young Players with Lee Meacham
This week, I sat down with my good friend Lee Meacham, Workforce Development Officer at the Albion Foundation, to explore a question that sits at the heart of Coaching:👉 How can we, as coaches, create the best possible environment for young people to thrive?Across the conversation, three powerful themes kept coming up:1️⃣ Relationships & Safe Spaces – Before technique or tactics, young people need trust. Coaches, parents, and players must feel safe to communicate openly. That’s what builds the confidence to make mistakes, learn, and grow.2️⃣ Clear Standards & the Power of “Why” – High standards empower young people. Whether it’s punctuality, kit, or shaking hands, these “brilliant basics” create discipline and respect. But explaining why those standards matter is what really drives buy-in and connects sport to life skills beyond the pitch.3️⃣ Enjoyment & Competition – If it’s not fun, they won’t come back. In grassroots, fun often means social connection. In academies, it’s healthy competition that sharpens performance. Either way, enjoyment is the fuel that keeps young people engaged.Lee shared practical strategies as well as delving into real-world stories, such as supporting a player who fasted during Ramadan, or giving leadership roles to a disruptive 10-year-old who turned out to be carrying huge responsibilities at home. The message was clear: when coaches truly see young people, understand their circumstances, reinforce positives, and explain the “why”, we unlock potential they often don’t even see in themselves.💡 Coaching is not just about sport. It’s about creating environments where young people can grow as people.Whether you’re a grassroots volunteer, academy coach, or teacher, this episode will give you tools, insights, and inspiration to make a lasting difference.

Why “Finding Balance” Isn’t the Answer (And What Is)
"I just need to find balance again"?I hear this all the time from the high-performing professionals I work with. You're spinning a lot of plates—leading at work, supporting your family, trying to look after your body and mind—but it feels like something’s always slipping through the cracks. So “balance” sounds like the solution. But what does that really mean?Because let’s be honest, balance is vague. And for many of us, it's become a word we throw out when we feel like we’re failing to hold it all together. Here’s what I believe:You don’t need more balance. You need clarity. Direction. And alignment. And to get those? You need a Life Audit. In my new Podcast, I walk you through the Life audit to help you start taking action on the changes and results you want to see in your health, fitness, and mindset to Thrive. If the Life Audit resonated with you and you want to regain control over your health, fitness and wellbeing. Comment “Thrive” if you want a copy of the framework, or DM me to chat about how to apply this to your world. 💫

But what if we were to see them in a different light, Given time to feel emotions and express our thoughts, can we see obstacles in life as opportunities, situations in which we can grow, develop, and improve? Marcus Aurelius, Winston Churchill, and Victor Frankl teach us that even the best have built their lives on the obstacles they have faced and become better. It is so empowering to start to see it this way and not to seek out additional challenges in life but to see the ones that we inevitably face in life as moments that can transport us to our purpose and meaning in life, If only we took the time to stop and listen. "The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." Marcus Aurelius

Welcome to THRIVE
I love the idea of getting better; more importantly, it is something we humans must do, not something we think we should do. To lead a life of fulfilment, health, well-being, and physical and mental strength, we must look to improve, learn, grow, and be vulnerable. And not just for ourselves but for the ones we love, for family and friends, and to leave this world in a better place than when we found it. But with this Idea of progress, growth, and development come challenges, particularly in a busy, loud, and overwhelming world. In a world where health, strength, and purpose can seem complex and confusing to obtain and sustain, How does someone who wants better and who wants to thrive in the world accomplish this state? I have a deep burning vision and need to help and guide; I'm not saying I have all the answers because I don't, But with over two decades of learning and supporting people to improve their health, fitness, and quality of life, I have something to say that I know can change lives. Thrive is a constantly evolving, all-encompassing idea of improving, helping you find clarity in an overwhelming and noisy world. I'm here to guide ambitious people in building a powerful foundation for themselves and their families. Through my podcast and upcoming book, I provide science-based, sustainable strategies that go beyond quick fixes and dive into fundamental transformation for lifelong well-being. THRIVE revolves around three pillars: Nourish—Fueling your body and mind with nutrition that supports optimal health and lowers the risk of long-term conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and dementia, allowing you to excel in all areas of life. Evidance-based nutrition that supports the body and mind and gets rid of fad diets and quick fixes. (not a weight loss drug in sight) Body—Strengthen and fortify your body to achieve a fit, resilient physique capable of handling life's demands while developing and maintaining a confident and muscular body. This science-backed approach focuses on the strategies that work, with no gimmicks. (there is no escaping hard work) Mind—Cultivate a mindset that empowers you to lead with clarity, resilience, and purpose. Develop a stoic approach (emotions included) that strengthens you, emotionally equips you for what the world throws at you, and supports you to thrive—learning from some of the past greats, such as Epictetus, Seneca, Zeno, and my favourite, Marcus Aurelius, and up to the present day, such as Robert Green and Viktor Frankl. With this knowledge and a burning desire to develop, grow, learn, and help others, I will present my ideas and conversations with other professionals in my podcast and YouTube channel, Thrive. It would mean the world if you went to the channels and told me what you think (please be honest). Above all else, please like and subscribe to the channel. I aim to use my information to help 1,000 more people lead healthier, stronger, more empowering lives by June 2025.

Ask this question to support personal development
In this solo episode, I discuss a powerful question that can help you make decisions that support your achievement in life. Whether that is to help improve your health, fitness, or personal development or even to be the best person you can be for the people you care about. We all make decisions on a daily basis that can either move us further towards our goals and ambitions or further away. Anything we can do to help us make better decisions is a skill we all need to nurture. I would love to know if this sort of podcast is supportive. More will come in the coming weeks and months to give you the support and guidance you need to be better.
