Navigating the Age of AI
The AI Era is here, whether you like it or not. After nonstop talk of AI's inevitability during the last few years, we are now faced with integrating this change on many levels simultaneously: in our work, in our relationships, as a society, and even in warfare. Recent news indicates increased oversight of AI, and more caution around its accelerating influence: 1.) The Florida Attorney General sued OpenAI and Sam Altman, claiming that the company's ChatGPT puts children at risk of harm. 2.) Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating that all new frontier AI models must be reviewed by the government before they are released to partners/the public. 3.) Pope Leo and the Vatican released an encyclical on AI calling to recenter human dignity in the debate about AI implementation — especially in War, which was echoed by JD Vance. Some may wish to put the genie back in the bottle, but as we note, Pandora's box can't be resealed. As content creators and members of Gen Z, we understand the fear associated with this new technology and the threat it poses to our humanity (through potential job loss and global conflict), but also the possible benefits that will improve life for most people, including life-saving medical applications and hopefully economic growth. Behind the Scenes of Washington, DC
In this evergreen episode, Washed Up cohosts discuss what they know about living in Washington DC. After having this podcast for over a year, it seemed about time to talk DC stereotypes, the ecosystem of Capitol Hill, the underrated National Mall, degrees of separation, the culture, the National Guard, back channeling, and more! In other news, Tulsi Gabbard stepped down from DNI and Trump sets up a 1.8 billion dollar slush fund, aka The Anti-Weaponization Fund. This episode was recorded May 24, 2026. AI Arms Race, China Competition, Energy Revolution
After the US and China hold a summit in Beijing between Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Washed Up breaks down what — if anything — useful came of it, regarding the race to develop AI models and build data centers, a US arms deal with Taiwan, the U.S.'s likelihood to defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, and China purchasing farmland and sending scholars to U.S. universities (both policies that Trump once opposed but now seemingly supports). Then, we pivot to an event with Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, where he discussed America's energy future, and he proposed that we recenter humanity's needs in our energy debates — rather than climate change alarmism. Cohost Abby Cavizo champions a nuclear energy solution and revolution, and Colin Mullaney explains consumer-regulated electricity, which would deregulate the grid and provide more free-market energy production. Last, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was brought down in defeat by an almost unknown primary opponent, after Donald Trump and his key allies/donors spent millions to defeat him — in the most expensive House primary ever. We are not happy about it, but not surprised, if you only knew what goes on in Washington, DC. California Governor’s Race. Good luck, CA!
In the Golden Jubilee (50th) episode of Washed Up, co-hosts discuss the Gubernatorial Race in California. There are seven leading candidates running for your CA governor. With the debate that just occurred, we thought it was relevant to go into the major issues that impact CA today, such as the California dream affordability, homelessness, billionaires, and more. CA voters, look out for the primary election coming up on June 2, 2026. Meet the candidates! There are five democrats: Xavier Becerra, Matt Mahan, Katie Porter, Tom Steyer, and Antonio Villaraigosa. Also, there are two republicans: Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution, past or present. This episode was recorded on May 11, 2026. Gen Z: Built Different, or Beyond Damaged?
This week we address the pervasive conflict and divide between Gen Z and other generations, including on affordability. What differentiates Gen Z from the Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, or even Gen Alpha? Where are there serious gaps in worldview — and why? How can our elderly elected leaders represent us, if they do not remotely understand what is in our best interests? Colin Mullaney and Abigail Cavizo speak on the core tenets of our generation, including but not limited to: our fears of loss and commitment, our unique (sometimes cavalier) attitudes toward money and communication, isolation and loneliness in the internet age, the decisions to become a parent and to marry, the impact of COVID-19 on our behavior and distrust for authority, nihilism, quitting while we're ahead (or before we even start), and an overall acknowledgment and emphasis on protecting mental health — which can be both admirable and empowering, but also obnoxious and self-limiting. If only self-awareness of one's faults was enough to make lasting changes and to break free from the toxic cycles of the past! Except that requires a lifetime of hard work and dedication. As DC residents, Washed Up has the unique experience of being in our president’s backyard, including talking to people on the ground #WashingtonDC. Pentagon Pete's Prayer
Washed Up reporters and young Catholics Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney respond to online exchanges between Pope Leo and the Trump administration. In light of the recent "Trump as Jesus post" from the president's account, we ask why has the president chosen to alienate a large portion of his would-be base? Religious Americans tend to vote republican, but what if that republican leader treats their faith with irreverence and starts unnecessary wars on false pretenses — all while masquerading as a savior to the downtrodden? Hard pass! At least Pentagon Pete is here to keep us entertained, with a monologue derived more from "Pulp Fiction" than the Bible. We offer our thoughts on young people "returning" to religion, a resurgence of Christian nationalism, a recent IDF scandal in Lebanon, and what some our elected officials could do to repent (looking at you, Swalwell and Gonzales!). Trump’s God Complex Goes Nuclear
In this episode, Washed Up hosts take a different approach to the news: analyzing the moves of #DJT. For those who are worried about an impending doomsday, you’re not alone. #Trump posted a series of concerning social media posts, including threats to end a civilization. There’s lot going on… such as Trump threatening to eliminate #Iran, #Powerday, #bridgeday. He also posted a (now-deleted) image of himself as Jesus, but this episode was recorded before then. Who is a fan of this war we’re using taxpayer money to fund, when it is primarily for #Israel. People in Trump’s cabinet are doing nothing to stop him, despite the disjointed messaging amongst them. Where is #MarcoRubio or #TulsiGabbard? Meanwhile, republicans are calling for the #25thamendment for Trump’s un-Christianlike activities on X. We call Trump an #agingnarcissist. Bye Bondi, Bimbofication, and Birthright Citizenship: Episode 45
We never intended to spend Good Friday talking about how Kristi Noem's husband has a #bimbofication fetish (ALLEGEDLY — but he doesn't deny it!). Kristi #Noem says she was blindsided and devastated. Our thoughts and prayers... etc. etc. #PamBondi was fired on Thursday from her role as the U.S. #AttorneyGeneral, to be replaced temporarily by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche (hooray for everyone!). Truly we live in upside-down world under #Trump 2.0, and in case you needed further evidence, the Administration continues its attempt to undo birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants. They argued before the Supreme Court that children of illegal immigrants do not qualify for citizenship by birth under the 14th Amendment, even though everyone in attendance at oral argument — with perhaps one notable exception — can read. It is possible that the War in Iran is only beginning, and truly on Washed Up, we are getting exceedingly tired of winning. Top Tips for Student Journalists
This week, Washed Up co-hosts take a dive into their origins: #student #journalism. Abby and Colin have been co-workers (and friends!) since 2021, and 3 of those years were the foundation of what Washed Up is today, thanks to their #studentjournalism program. The co-hosts discuss #journalisticintegrity, team dynamics, #newswriting, #PR versus journalism, #interviews, #influencers, and more. If you want advice on how to start journalism, if it’s for you, or just need a laugh away from the #news, this is the episode for you. Washed Up wants to eventually build the brand around helping student journalists, a shared passion of Abby and Colin. Help them out by spreading the word and tuning in to hear the commentary of the most “washed-up” 24-year-olds you’ll ever meet.

Monitoring the Situation: Iran War Week 3
Recorded on March 17, 2026, the #Iranwar continues escalating with regional spillover into Lebanon/Beirut; a closed Strait of Hormuz is hindering global oil shipping (likely raising oil prices); and US casualties now tally 13 — as of this posting. Around 5,000 marines are being sent to fight as ground troops, with indications of more being mobilized shortly. Lindsey Graham is ecstatic. There is no obvious end in sight and seemingly no real plan for where this war is heading, or the ultimate objective. Trump has issued an ominous 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait. Director of the Center of Counterterrorism, #JoeKent, resigned last week, stating that there was no imminent threat posed by Iran that would have warranted the US joining Israel’s war against their rival, Iran. Tulsi #Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, posted on X that President Trump made the decision to strike Iran after reviewing the full range of available intelligence. Tucker #Carlson is in the news for claims that he is being investigated by the government for alleged connections and messages with sources in Iran, and Carlson denies any wrongdoing in his capacity as a journalist. War in Iran, Noem No More: Episode 44
This episode was recorded on March 10, 2026. In this heated episode, Washed Up cohosts talk about the US-Israeli attack on #Iran, launched on 2/28. Here at Washed Up, we oppose US intervention, and this #war is disappointing, but not surprising. #LindseyGraham, #Netanyahu, and #Trump wanted this war, and there will surely be consequences... We'll continue to monitor the story, as it changes every day. As of 3/10, there have been countless deaths, including the #Ayotollah, hundreds of innocent lives, and 7 #American #Troops. Later, we discuss the inevitable demise of #KristiNoem as #DHS head. Goodbye, you will not be missed. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any affiliation, past or present.

Iran War, State of the Union, and Clintons Deposed: Episode 43
Washed Up's Colin Mullaney and Abigail Cavizo review President Trump's record-breaking-long 2026 #StateoftheUnion address, which occurred against the backdrop of mounting military presence in the Middle East, foretelling imminent war against Iran. They also discuss Prince Andrew's arrest in the UK, plus power couple Bill and Hillary Clinton's depositions by members of Congress in a set of closed-door (but highly publicized) hearings. Ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's global network of contacts has yielded some substantive change and toppled powerful leaders, but significant questions remain regarding Epstein's intelligence connections, the nature of his death in prison, and whether the Department of Justice has in fact released all of the pertinent files, as mandated by the #EpsteinFiles Transparency Act. This episode was recorded on Feb. 27, 2026. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present. NOTE: This episode was recorded the night before the U.S., in conjunction with Israel, launched Operation #EpicFury against #Iran with broad regional and global implications. Our next episode, 44, will cover this active War against Iran, which has so far killed 7 US service members and many in the Middle East — as of March 9, 2026.

State of the Union Bingo: Tariffs, Epstein, ICE, Iran
As Donald #Trump delivers the 2026 #StateoftheUnion address, Washed Up cohosts Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney predict what he will and won’t mention during this evening’s speech, on Feb. 24, 2026. With so many topics in the news, including SCOTUS striking down Trump’s IEEPA #tariffs, more fallout from the Epstein Files Transparency Act, ICE withdrawing from Minneapolis, the Milan #Olympics, and threats of war with #Iran, it’s anyone’s guess. We will be tuning in and delivering our thoughts next episode on all the iconic moments sure to emerge from tonight’s big event. Congress Investigates, Bondi Implodes, Who's next Exposed? Episode 41
Episode recorded on Feb. 14, 2026. This week on Washed Up, co-hosts Colin and Abby continue their commentary on discoveries from the #EpsteinFiles. #PamBondi was front and center, and people took to posting the many, many sound bites from her testimony. Here at Washed Up, we compared her to Regina George. Hopefully, she too can reform herself (and the #DOJ). Those in the files keep falling one by one... #KathrynRuemmler, #HowardLutnick, and #SultanAhmedbinSulayem to name a few. We're keeping an eye out for developments on the story and other names seen. #Trump, for example, is mentioned more times than Jesus is in the bible. Keep up, legacy media. In other news, #TomHoman is pulling the rest of the ICE agents out of MN. Epstein Associations Exposed in DOJ Dump: Episode 40
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released 3 million files on Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased and convicted pedophile, in accordance with the #EpsteinFiles Transparency Act, passed by Congress in 2025. Among the files are numerous messages between Epstein and other prominent public figures and contacts. Epstein's private correspondences reveal his personal thoughts and his past associations with numerous politicians from both US and foreign governments. Not only does this show Epstein's vast network, but it also exposes those who remained in close communication with Epstein, even after his 2008 conviction of "soliciting a minor for prostitution." President #DonaldTrump is mentioned thousands of times throughout the files, although mostly in passing/comments sent by Epstein to/from third parties and recipients, such as Paul Krassner. As of Feb. 8, 2026, no "smoking gun" has yet emerged that would definitively tie the sitting President to criminal acts in connection with Epstein, but Epstein does make several references to abuse allegations against his former friend, Donald Trump. Epstein also authored a suspicious email draft to himself, insinuating that #BillGates had contracted an STD and passed it on to his wife, Melinda — then tried to cover it up by slipping her medication. Gates denied that this ever occurred, with a spokesperson calling it absurd and false. Elon #Musk messaged directly with Epstein about visiting an island over the holidays, and Epstein offered to send his helicopter. Noam Chomsky gave Epstein PR advice on how to handle media coverage of Epstein's sex trafficking allegations. Prince Andrew is revealed in a redacted photo lurking over an unknown and seemingly unconscious woman. Andrew has been stripped of his royal title and home. Bill Clinton, who has appeared in numerous questionable photos alongside young women and Jeffrey Epstein, will now testify before the House Oversight Committee — along with Hillary Clinton — as part of the ongoing congressional probe into Epstein's network. Ehud Barak, the former prime minster of #israel, messaged directly with Jeffrey Epstein, including one message where Epstein joked: "you should make clear that i dont work for mossad. :)". Epstein's connections to foreign governments, including ongoing speculation that he may have served as an asset or agent of a foreign country, are still being investigated — with the Washington Post noting Epstein's close ties to Russian officials. This latest batch of heavily-redacted files has caused a public uproar and scandal, with some reviving the QAnon and Pizzagate conspiracy theories — which claim that a secret cabal of sex traffickers are running the US government via an organized blackmail operation. 3 million more files on Epstein are said to exist, but were not deemed by the Justice Department as relevant for release. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has demanded to see the complete and un-redacted files, which the DOJ says will be made available to lawmakers on Monday, Feb. 9 (the same day when Ghislaine Maxwell is to be deposed by Congress). In other news, #ICE is withdrawing 700 agents from Minneapolis, and the #SuperBowl is this Sunday, with #BadBunny performing. This episode was recorded on Feb. 7, 2026. Don Lemon arrested, two journalists react: BONUS Episode
Despite their undying love for the first amendment and a free press, Colin and Abby are not amused by Don Lemon’s participation/coverage of an Anti-ICE protest on Jan. 18 — inside of a church located in St. Paul, MN. His actions led to one misdemeanor and one federal charge, including the alleged violation of the FACE Act and Klan Act, for alleged conspiracy against the rights of the churchgoers who were exercising their freedom of religion/worship. Lemon and several others were charged with these violations, alongside activists like Nekima Levy Armstrong, Chauntyll Allen, and William Kelly, who organized the protest against pastor David Easterwood (also the head of a local #ICE field office). As an independent journalist, Lemon claims he was acting in a manner protected by the first amendment right to free speech and press. However, if you blur the lines between #journalism and activism — while simultaneously breaking the law — then one could reasonably expect to face consequences. While we cannot claim to know what goes on in the head of #DonLemon, it seems that he is so far enjoying the “consequences” he has thus faced, as his name is more prominent now than at any time since his firing from CNN in 2023. Lemon is not being held in prison — to the contrary — he appeared at the #Grammys a short while after his arrest in Los Angeles. According to the Washington Post, Lemon and the other protesters could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. This episode was recorded on February 2, 2026. Alex Pretti's Death is Morally Unjust: Episode 39
This week, Colin and Abby brave the cold in DC for an in-person episode. The two co-hosts comment on the ongoing #ICE contentions in #Minnesota, including the unjustified killing of #AlexPretti. The #Trump Admin and DHS continues to spin the story otherwise, but Trump pulled back Greg #Bovino (replaced by Tom Homan) and #KristiNoem, though Noem still remains as the Head of DHS. Washed Up believes in the value of human life, questioning why people have yet to talk about the morality behind these recent deaths, rather than just legality. In other MN news, Rep. #IlhanOmar was sprayed with a mysterious liquid (later revealed to be apple cider vinegar) during a town hall. The man was arrested, and Rep. Omar is okay. Amidst everything that happened, #MelaniaTrump released her documentary, and #NickiMinaj is now Trump's number one supporter. Though questionable, Abby and Colin will continue to keep an eye out for selener. IMPORTANT NOTE: This episode was recorded on Saturday, January 31, 2026. 'Don't believe your lyin' eyes' in Davos or Minneapolis: Episode 38
Last week at the World Economic Forum (#WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, prominent world leaders including #Trump, #Carney, Macron, and Zelensky spoke about the current state of European/#NATO and American relations, shedding some light on where we stand globally — even as they sowed new confusion.Macron even did it wearing reflective aviator sunglasses, which surely cannot be a metaphor for the lack of transparency and back channeling at these elite conferences. Luckily, we are here to break down what they did say publicly, and to point out the contradictions between their public remarks and their behind-the-scenes strategies (including some leaked text messages). Trump repeatedly mixed up Iceland and Greenland in his speech (it happens to the best of us — except most of us don't have a press secretary who will deny it ever happened!). Fortunately, Trump said he is not planning imminent military action against Greenland — though he could always change his mind. Finally, as protests continued against ICE and immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, a few notable incidents occurred, angering both sides — mostly along partisan lines. We discuss a handful of such incidents, including a protest inside a Minneapolis church during service, which led to three arrests, plus competing narratives around a 5-year-old boy detained by immigration officials. This episode was recorded on Jan. 24, 2026, amid breaking news of the shooting and killing of Alex Pretti, 37, by federal agents in Minneapolis. More commentary to follow next week, on this tragic and evolving story. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation

Minnesota meltdown, Iran irate… grabbing Greenland? Episode 37
On this week’s episode, Washed Up co-hosts introduce the episode talking about updates to #Minnesota protests, #ICE, and the death of #ReneeGood. Does #Trump have validity in inciting the #insurrectionact, which was last used in the 1992 LA Riots? Also, Trump does not declare war on #Iran. Maybe he did deserve the peace prize from #Machado. Speaking of “peace,” Trump wants to take over #Greenland next, which many oppose. This episode was recorded on Jan. 17, 2026. ICE agent shoots, kills Minneapolis Protester Renee Good: Episode 36
An ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old mother Renee Good, a U.S. citizen who was protesting the presence of #ICE in #Minneapolis on Jan. 7, 2026; Good was parked in the center of the street and drove her car into the ICE officer, as she puts the car into drive and then appears to be leaving the scene. Three shots ring out and hit Good in her car, while bystanders scream. Prior, the agent tells Good to "get out of the car" several times, which she does not obey. Good's partner was also on the scene, recording the protest, and is heard urging Good to "drive baby drive." A widely-circulated and polarizing video soon emerged, filmed by a bystander; it was then followed by a second video (cellphone footage from the perspective of the ICE agent). Both videos show the agent being clipped by Good's car, as she attempts to leave the scene, but raise serious questions about the officer's justification in using deadly force against Good — and whether he had reason to believe his life was at risk. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and President #Trump both claim that Good "ran over" the officer, with DHS labeling the incident as an act of domestic terrorism. Right-leaning commentators have also called Good a professional agitator. Public reaction has largely been anger and outrage toward ICE, including protests in cities like DC and Minneapolis, though the Trump Administration and DHS defend the ICE agent's actions as self-defense — in response to what he perceived to be a threat to his life. Officials later stated (after this episode recorded) that the ICE agent went to the hospital after the shooting and was treated for internal bleeding. In other news, the Iranian regime is facing serious pushback from its citizens, leading to a crackdown in the streets of #Iran. Mainstream media asserts that the U.S. and President Trump are actively deciding whether to intervene militarily or even topple the theocratic government, just one week after raiding and arresting Venezuela's President, Nicolas Maduro. This episode was recorded on Jan. 12, 2026. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation.

Fentanyl: WMD or an excuse for War with Venezuela? Episode 34
President #Trump declared fentanyl a "weapon of mass destruction," as the U.S. continues strikes against small boats from #Venezuela . The Trump administration alleges the boats are smuggling drugs into the U.S. More than 90 have been killed since the boat strikes began. One of the most controversial Caribbean boat strikes occurred on Sept. 2, and included a "double tap," in which the US initiated a second strike to kill 2 survivors of the first strike. Doubts remain about how this second strike was carried out and whether it met the standards of the military code of conduct; Congress has since called upon Admiral Bradley to testify about the double tap incident. Members of #Congress have reviewed unreleased footage of the second strike, and President Trump has deferred to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to decide whether to release video of the second strike.Fentanyl kills around 70,000 to 80,000 Americans each year, and the fentanyl crisis in the U.S. is a grave tragedy, but it could also be a convenient excuse for toppling the Maduro regime. Previously, Trump has cut funding for research into substance use disorder, and he has also pardoned people convicted of drug trafficking charges.Clarification: the U.S. intercepted a Venezuelan *oil tanker/the Skipper* last week off the coast of Venezuela, *not an aircraft carrier,* as mentioned. After this video was recorded, President Trump announced a blockade against sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers. This episode was recorded on December 16, 2025. Exploring Root Causes of Political Violence: Episode 33
While patrolling DC, two West Virginia #NationalGuard members, Sarah Beckstrom (20) and Andrew Wolfe (24), were shot on the day before Thanksgiving by an Afghan man (29). Beckstrom died from her injuries, while Wolfe remains in recovery. The shooting suspect, who came to the US in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, seems to be radicalized, and/or mentally ill; he is in custody, and has plead not guilty to charges including first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. This week on #WashedUp, episode 33, Colin Mullaney and Abigail Cavizo discuss the implications of this news for DC and for the #immigration debate; the #legacymedia and politicians' tendency to assign blame after violence; how to recenter the conversation on individuals — not groups; and possible social and cultural explanations (and also creative/peaceful solutions) for political violence. In the same vein, a suspect (30) in the placement of pipe bombs outside the DNC before Jan. 6, 2021, was arrested last week in Virginia after a nearly 5-year search; he has been speaking with investigators on the matter, which will hopefully elucidate a motive, and bring resolution to a mystery that shrouded the entire Jan. 6, 2021 saga. FBI Director Kash Patel appeared on The Megyn Kelly show last week, to discuss the breakthrough in this investigation. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present. MTG, prior MAGA loyalist, to resign from Congress: Episode 32
In this week’s episode, Colin and Abby react to the shocking news that Georgia rep #marjorietaylorgreene is resigning from Congress. As a previous #maga loyalist, this is one headline that had us shocked AND surprised — something the news hasn’t done in a while. In related news, the DOJ has to release all #epsteinfiles under the #epsteintransparencyact, but Washed Up hosts think there are ways around it. #mamdani and #trump met for the first time, and it’s a funny one. Closing out the episode, they speak of #socialmedia , #ai , and the differences in its uses between #genz and #genalpha .

Epstein emails released, Government reopening, Pelosi retiring: Episode 31
New emails from the Epstein estate, released by the House Oversight Committee last week, reveal Jeffrey Epstein’s vast network and communications leading up to his death. #Epstein died in 2019 by apparent suicide in prison — while awaiting a trial for sex trafficking charges. Since Epstein’s death, accusations have swirled around who in high society may have been connected to him, and who may have benefited from his death. One name that frequently surfaces in association with Epstein is President #Trump, who was friends with Epstein for many years, but who claims that he knew nothing about Epstein’s alleged abuses of underage girls. President Trump denies any wrongdoing and claims that he cut off Epstein around 2004, due to Epstein’s creepy behavior or, alternatively, a real estate dispute. In the messages released last week, Epstein refers to Trump in 2011 as “the dog that hasn’t barked” and also states that one of Epstein’s victims had “spent hours” with Trump, but Epstein gives no context to this alleged encounter; a later, unredacted version of the same email shows the victim he references is Virginia Giuffre, who had separately testified in 2016 that she had never witnessed Trump engage in any wrongdoing. Epstein also stated to Michael Wolff in 2019 that Trump “knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine [Maxwell] to stop.” These mentions of Trump by Epstein seem to raise more questions than they answer. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the emails were selectively leaked, to create a fake narrative about Trump. Rep. #MarjorieTaylorGreene (R-GA) has been calling for the release of all documents related to Epstein, including those possessed by the DOJ, which has caused President Trump to flip on his once most loyal and ardent defender, branding her “Marjorie Traitor Greene.” In this episode, Washed Up’s cohosts, Colin Mullaney and Abigail Cavizo, also discuss the reopening of the federal government, as the longest federal government shutdown in US history comes to a close. We discuss Nancy Pelosi’s retirement announcement, and the campaign launch of Jack #Schlossberg for Congress, as a Rep. for New York. This episode was recorded on Nov. 14, 2025. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present.UPDATE: in a reversal of his previous stance, President Trump announced days after this episode was recorded, that he would in fact sign into law any order to release the remaining Epstein documents — should the bill pass the Senate and reach his desk.

NYC mayoral race: who takes the crown? Episode 29
Zohran #Mamdani will face off with Andrew #Cuomo for New York City’s mayor in this week’s NYC election. Washed Up’s Colin Mullaney took a trip to the NYC to “investigate” and contrast the atmosphere of #NYC and #DC. As protests and ICE raids continue in Washington (amid the ongoing government shutdown), Colin describes visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty: symbols of America’s welcoming and open attitude toward immigrants past. Abigail Cavizo and Colin then discuss the many creative forms of protest that they have seen in DC, from No Kings day signs on Oct. 18 to a statue of Donald Trump holding hands with Jeffrey Epstein outside of the US Capitol building. Next, they cover the new White House #ballroom under construction, after Trump ordered the East Wing demolished… and the possibilities of a Trump third term? They conclude the episode with a dramatic recount of the #Louvre #heist, and their Bury the Lede segment, where Colin addresses Western attitudes toward death and dying — anticipating Halloween, Dia de los Muertos and All Souls Day — while Abigail takes on the importance of touching grass and silent time without distraction or noise. Kamala Harris claps back at DC hecklers: Episode 28
Washed Up’s very own Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney attended the #KamalaHarris book tour for #107Days when the former vice president stopped in #WashingtonDC on Oct. 9. In this episode, they debrief the book event, myriad reasons why Harris lost the 2024 presidential election, and what the VP had to say about Trump’s second term. Harris’ event was disrupted by hecklers in the crowd, who at one point caused her to rise from her seat and yell “I am not the president of the United States!” in defense. Another yelled at Harris: “your legacy will be genocide.” Besides giving vague life/relationship advice, Harris also discussed current news from the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James to Trump’s National Guard deployments in Chicago and Portland, and the Federal government shutdown, now entering week two. As of recording, a ceasefire deal is currently being negotiated by President Trump between Israel and Hamas — resulting in the release of the last surviving Oct. 7 Israeli hostages held by Hamas, as well as many Palestinian prisoners. Lasting peace may finally be on the horizon, after two years of bitter conflict and death. This episode was recorded on October 14, 2025. The Life of a News Podcaster (Feat. Reaction to Hate Comments): Episode 27
Washed Up hosts open the episode talking about what's happening in DC, including the #governmentshutdown. In episode 27, the two dive into this week's latest in pop culture. Taylor Swift released 12th studio album, #TheLifeOfAShowgirl and #JKRowling responded to a comment made by #EmmaWatson — Colin and Abigail share their takes on it all. Finally, they address the hate...comments. If you want more of this type of content or have anything to suggest, comment a thought or two! You may be featured in next week's episode, or better yet, part two of comment reading, where instead, we read our fan comments (ha!)

Erika Kirk Forgives Killer, Trump Attorney Indicts Comey: Episode 26
This week on Washed Up: Erika #Kirk remarkably forgave her husband Charlie Kirk's killer, during Kirk's memorial service in Arizona, on Sept. 21. Not to be outdone, President #Trump quipped at the memorial about hating his opponents, which drew media ire and headlines. Although Trump clearly indicated he was joking, Trump was decidedly not joking about indicting James #Comey, the former FBI director. Trump had called on Truth Social for the US Attorney General Pam Bondi and newly appointed interim US attorney for the Eastern district of Virginia, Lindsey Halligan, to pursue criminal charges against Comey, who was then indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 25 for allegedly making false statements to congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding—charges which Comey denies. Colin and Abby also discussed Jimmy Kimmel's temporary suspension and then reinstatement on ABC, and why it's not just a blip on the radar, but possibly a #FirstAmendment issue, demonstrative of government "jawboning." Assassination of Charlie Kirk: Episode 25
In the 25th episode, Washed Up cohosts share their thoughts on the #CharlieKirk #Assassination, as well as the future of #politicalviolence and the #GenZ reactions they've seen on social media. After the nuanced topic, they lighten the mood with their bury the ledes. Abby thinks the Summer I turned Pretty love triangle and #onlinebullying may have to do with the #politicaldivide. Colin talks #AI and his concerns about how reliant people have become on it, often referred to as #AIPsychosis. This episode was recorded on September 15, 2025. As Cold As I.C.E: Episode 24
The National Guard’s presence in #DC continues, with unique forms of pushback from citizens and grand juries. ICE has a chilling effect on DC residents and also recently raided/arrested around 400 South Korean workers at a Georgia car battery plant. Immigration lawyers say many of the arrested workers were in the US with permission and B-1 visas, though the #Trump Admin claims they were unauthorized to be working at the site and must be sent back to South Korea. After an appeals court ruled against Trump’s unilaterally imposed emergency #tariffs, the Supreme Court is now scheduled to hear the case very soon, and Justice #AmyConeyBarrett released a new book, Listening to the Law. #Nepal is also experiencing a revolt that led to the parliament being set ablaze, and the Prime Minister stepping aside; at least 19 died during the #GenZprotests, which in part stemmed form fury over social media bans, #Nepobaby culture, wealth inequality, and potential government corruption. In the hosts’ vaunted Bury the Lede segment, they talk about sibling birth order and whether this impacts personality, and also #NationalSuicidePreventionDay. Colin's 2024 podcast on suicide prevention, below: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2eTp5S5xjkyG3GYS3y22dm?si=mmwZH0PvQxSLP8FW1xQslA This episode was recorded on Sept. 9, 2025 — a day before the shocking assassination of #CharlieKirk at a Utah college campus event; we will share thoughts and our sympathies for Kirk and his family in an upcoming episode. Trump takeover, coming to a city near you?: Episode 23
Welcome to Volume 2 of Washed Up! Originally filmed on 8/27/25, Colin and Abigail open up the episode by discussing the tragic school shooting in Minnesota and their ideas on #gunreform in America. As DC residents, the two recount what they've experienced and seen with #TrumpTakeover in DC, including the #NationalGuard in the Mall, increased police activity, and the impact of a shortage of judges in DC's Superior Court.Trump also wants to reverse the Texas v Johnson precedent regarding the legality of burning the #AmericanFlag. Many on both sides of the political spectrum find this ridiculous. You heard it here first: let's all #IgnoreTrump and not feed into his rage-bait antics. In pop culture news, #TaylorSwift and #TravisKelce are engaged. The two co-hosts discuss its impact on Gen-Z, their reactions, and share stories of weddings past. 300+ Arrests: Week One of Trump’s DC Police ‘Takeover’
Donald Trump declared federal authority over the DC police force, and deployed the national guard one week ago on Monday, invoking a section of the Home Rule Act of 1973; he did so on the basis that DC is allegedly in a state of emergency and overrun by crime. This action has led to over 300 arrests, including many illegal immigrants — such as the aggressive arrest of a Venezuelan national, which was published by the Washington Post over the weekend. Encampments are also being cleared from federal property. Attorney General Pam Bondi was challenged in court over the replacement of DC Police Chief Pamela Smith, and for now, Smith will remain in charge of the Metropolitan Police Department. However, media reports indicate that more national guards from other states will be deployed to DC in the coming days, and that Trump intends to extend the declaration of emergency beyond its initial 30-day period. The Power of PR and Placebo: Episode 22
On milestone episode 22 of Washed Up, Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney discuss an error that led to #highnoon vodka seltzer being packaged as cans of Astro Vibe #Celsius and distributed in select states across the US—until eventually recalled. We conduct our own independent taste test (of unaffected drinks from each brand) to see if any unsuspecting consumers might be duped by this mistake.Last week at an event featuring Senators #TimKaine (D-VA) and #RandPaul (R-KY), Colin had the chance to hear the Senators make a case against #tariffs unilaterally imposed by President #Trump. Trump's use of the emergency powers is yet another example of propaganda we're not falling for. Finally, #SydneySweeney attracted the ire of left-leaning America, for an #AmericanEagle jeans ad gone "wrong." Knowing what we do about the effort behind #marketing and advertising campaigns, was this whole controversy intentional (as so many are)? All opinions are our own, and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present. Coldplay Affair & Kohberger’s Sentencing: Episode 21
On Episode 21 of Washed Up, Abigail and Colin give their analysis and reactions to two unrelated, but very talked about news topics. First up, the media loved the #ColdplayAffair. Everyone's been in a frenzy about this year's annual #CEO "sacrifice," with the #Astronomer CEO and Head of HR caught "canoodling" at a Coldplay concert. Why did a clip like this go viral? Why did the company's PR team choose #GwenythPaltrow to speak as a follow up? Secondly, they discuss the sentencing of #BryanKohberger and the strength of the victims' families as they gave their #VictimImpact statements. As the two have been keeping up with the #Idaho4 case since it occurred, they wish nothing but peace and healing for their families. They wrap up with their Bury the Lede segment. Colin has a rant about #CVS and their locked hygiene products, while Abigail wonders if DC actually cares about #NDAs. As always, feel free to email [email protected] or drop a comment if you want Washed Up to cover any specific topic!

Washed Up Journalists Interview Each Other
Who are Colin Mullaney and Abigail Cavizo, and (besides the First Amendment) what gives them the right? Where do they find the audacity? After 20 long episodes of Washed Up Weekly, now deep in the swamp of Washington DC, it was time for a nice “Evergreen” episode — code in the journalism biz for “a fluff piece that you only use when you don’t feel like writing a hard-hitting story that week.”So, this week Abby and Colin channel their inner Barbara Walters, and put their interviewing skills to the test. They ask one another the burning questions that linger after 3.5 years of professional experience side by side, and 3.5 years of friendship.

Episode 20: Legal Rulings v. Cultural Rumblings
This week on Washed Up episode 20, Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney break down the recent Supreme Court ( #SCOTUS ) rulings in the cases of Mahmoud v. Taylor; Free Speech Coalition, Inc. v. Paxton; and .#Trump v. CASA, Inc. We read straight from the first case's appendix, so that you don't have to — including a page from one "controversial" children's book. Shoutout Justice Sotomayor for her dissent; the majority ruling 6-3 favors parents who want to opt out their children from lessons with #LGBT content, for religious reasons. Plus, our homegirl, the Honorable Justice Amy Coney Barrett, is back again — this time with a ruthless takedown of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on nationwide injunctions. We've missed #ACB since her last spotlight in episode 9. Then — as we have a habit of burying the lede on this show — the #Diddy #verdict was handed down by a jury last week, which has most people PISSED. The jury may have let Diddy off easy, only found #guilty on his more minor charges — but what cultural repercussions will continue to ripple out for years and decades to come, as a result of his vile behavior? The plea deal of self-admitted murderer Bryan Kohberger is another huge #breakingnews legal development, with enduring cultural impact. Despite his admission to killing four #Idaho students in 2022, some are still angry with how the plea deal was orchestrated, with surviving family members split whether Kohberger deserved the death penalty. To cap it all off, a discussion of #rankedchoicevoting in the recent #NewYorkCity democrat primary, which saw #zohranmamdani prevail over former NY governor Andrew Cuomo. All opinions are our own, and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present. This episode was recorded on July 2, 2025.

Episode 19: Don't Reign on My Parade
In Episode 19 of Washed Up, recorded on June 18, 2025, Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney unpack the June 14 #parade in #WashingtonDC, intended to celebrate the Army's 250th birthday — also coinciding with Donald Trump's 79th birthday. On this day across the country, protestors engaged in #nokingsday demonstrations. However, to the cohosts' surprise, the Army parade was less dictatorial and authoritarian than they were suspecting... even fun... and had the atmosphere of a July 4th celebration. However, it was also a huge expenditure, with a lot of security and coordination. Although Colin and Abby saw #trump and crew from a distance, DJT seemed mostly subdued and occasionally roused, saluting to the troops from atop of a platform shared by other cabinet and high-ranking officials. The most interesting part, aside from the history lecture, were the multiple flyovers at the #nationalmall. Colin and Abby also discuss the context of political violence preceding the event, with two Minnesota lawmakers attacked, and one killed alongside her spouse, in the run-up to this DC parade. Middle East tension was also escalating during this DC Army parade, with #Israel launching targeted strikes against #Iran, and the U.S. soon to launch its own bombing operation — now being dubbed as the #12daywar by Trump. Although the cohosts do not go into detail about the seemingly now concluded Iran-Israel war and U.S involvement therein, they do discuss their concerns for broader regional conflict in the future.

Episode 18: The Big Beautiful Breakup... 'It Ends with Musk'
In this belated 18th episode of Washed Up, initially recorded on June 9, 2025, Abigail Cavizo and Colin Mullaney break down the #bromance #breakup of #DonaldTrump and #Musk, spurred by (so they say) disagreements over the Big Beautiful (and Bloated) Bill, now making its way through #Congress. In a pop culture rivalry that everyone and their mother saw coming — with vague echoes of other celebrity feuds like warring costars Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively — we can officially declare that "It ends with Musk." From DOGE poster child to effectively exiled from Washington DC, Elon Musk has sparred with the President over social media, exchanging low blows. Calling for Trump's removal from office and declaring that President Trump could not have won without him, Musk fuels the glee of every lowly, left-of-center podcast host. To clarify, we personally take no delight in this matter — simply because we have too many other priorities to juggle — but we do enjoy the occasional opportunity to say "I told you so."Later, cohosts Cavizo and Mullaney discuss the contrasting DC pride parade and DC military parade, and in their #burythelede segment: pop artist #Marinadiamandis and what it's like #datingindc. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present.

Episode 17: Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis and Cognitive Decline
This week on Washed Up episode 17, Colin Mullaney and Abby Cavizo break down (no pun intended) President Biden’s steady cognitive decline and recent prostate cancer diagnosis. Outlined in the new book “Original Sin” by Jake #Tapper and Alex Thompson, new details have emerged regarding who knew that #Biden was mentally infirm, yet tried to cover it up. Abby and Colin reread their old text messages from the June 27, 2024, CNN #debate, opine on what they knew about Biden’s #health during his term. They also delve into whether Kamala Harris could have beaten Donald Trump, if Biden had never run a second campaign… including Abby’s prophetic dream on debate night. In a robust #BurytheLede segment, Abby states the case for why it’s important to have #faith in something bigger than oneself, and Colin extols the numerous benefits of cold showers. We wish Joe Biden well, but believe that the American people deserve answers for the last several years of gaslighting that we were subjected to. All opinions are our own and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present.

Episode 16: Death to DoE, Listening to Linda McMahon Live
This week, Abigail and Colin attended a talk with the Secretary of Education, #LindaMcMahon on May 14, 2025. As scrappy as we are, we somehow ended up in a room to hear out a member of #Trump’s cabinet, specifically Linda McMahon. Never judge the power of small, dedicated, independent shows! Listen to this episode to hear our opinions about what #McMahon and the #TrumpAdministration have been doing within the #DoE and what we ideally want from the #government, in terms of how to handle our nation’s #education. Plus, Abby discusses how it's okay not to have a plan (and even helps young adults build grit), and Colin has a bone to pick with #Christian #nationalism. We love doing in-person episodes and are very thankful to the 21 people watching/listening!

Episode 15: Pontificating on New American Pope Leo XIV
In our first Washed Up episode together from Washington DC, Colin and Abby comment on the breaking news from May 1 to May 8, 2025. New Pope Leo XIV, was appointed as the first American Pope. Robert Francis Prevost, initially from Chicago, was also a former Bishop in Peru. We discuss the attributes that we would like to see in a Pope, and early indications of how the new pontiff may lean. Then, we discuss the threat of war with Iran, and the renegotiation of the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA), by President Trump, and a ceasefire with the Houthis. The U.S. has secured a mineral deal with Ukraine, but the Russia-Ukraine drags on, even as Trump passes 100 days in office.Could JD Vance or Marco Rubio be Trump's successor in 2028? And Pentagon personnel are now on the chopping block.During the beloved #BurytheLede segment, Colin delves into why jealousy isn't such a bad thing and to deny it can be far more harmful. Abby gets real on why a 9-5 is not so bad, despite what Dolly Parton says, and it can actually be good for building character and skills. To close, our 30,000ft take on the Met Gala, for which we have both fascination and criticism.Time Stamps:00:00:40 (Introduction)00:11:11 (New Pope Leo XIV)00:31:05 (Foreign Policy and Negotiations)00:47:50 (JD Vance and Marco Rubio)00:53:51 (BURY THE LEDE!)01:00:37 (The Met Gala)

Then Colin and Abby discuss other news from April 21 to April 30, including:#Pope #Francis #funeral and the coming #conclave, building upon the breaking news commentary by Colin last week. During the now beloved #BurytheLede segment, Abby recounts the European attitude toward open and tolerant discourse as a nice reprieve from American rigidity and #polarization, while Colin reflects on #ImposterSyndrome in #GenZ and the workplace. To close, a discussion about banned books and other ongoing censorship efforts at all levels of education, including a #SCOTUS case originating from Montgomery County #Maryland, and questionable books removed from the #NavalAcademy library.

BREAKING: Pope Francis dead at 88
After months of failing health, #Pope #Francis, the first Pope from Latin America—Buenos Aires, Argentina—passed away on Monday April 21, shortly after #Easter. He was selected as Pope in 2013, and leaves behind a complicated legacy among many Catholics, including both traditional and less traditional Catholics. Hear Colin’s immediate reaction to the news, as a lifelong #Catholic who is also quite critical of the church in recent years. Colin discusses where he feels the Pope missed important opportunities to affect positive change both within and outside the #Vatican. Episode 12: The Rise and Fall of a Two-Party System
This week on Washed Up, we discuss the news from March 30, 2025, to April 6, including: IN A MAJOR SWITCH UP (and arguably the greatest trade deal in American history), Elon #Musk is reportedly leaving DOGE/the Trump administration, while Abby is moving to DC to be Washed Up in Washington. The #HandsOff protests nationwide, ongoing disunity in message among the #Democrats, plus possible rising (and falling) stars within the Democrat party: #AOC for 2028? Perhaps Jon Ossoff or Jake Auchincloss? The inanity of #Kamala Harris, who may run for California Governor, in case Newsom is planning a run for President. On our Bury the Lede segment: Abby on cellphone bans in schools and Colin on people using mental illness as a justification for bad behavior. Then, the irony of Trump’s “Liberation Day” #tariffs, which cause the stock market to #crashout. Could a looming recession have a silver lining? Celebrities like Chappell Roan trigger Abby’s distaste for selective political activism, and Colin’s dislike of entitlement. All opinions expressed are our own, and do not reflect those of any institution or affiliation, past or present.
