The Sovereign Woman: Living as Her - The Daily Practice of Sovereignty
Today I explore what it means not only to become the woman I was created to be, but to actually live as her every day. Sovereignty isn't something waiting for me in the future. It is expressed through the choices I make right now, especially when life feels uncertain, messy, or incomplete.I share how identity shapes our reality, why evidence follows who we become, and what it means to trust divine timing instead of forcing outcomes. Through stories from Scripture, spiritual psychology, and my own life, I reflect on courage, trust, self-abandonment, boundaries, and the importance of living from alignment rather than fear. This conversation is an invitation to stop waiting for perfect circumstances and begin asking, "What would she do?"In this episode:Why identity comes before evidenceHow daily choices shape destinyLessons from Sarah, Martha, Esther, Mary Magdalene, and the woman at the wellWhy trust matters more than controlHow to live from your future self todayIf this episode speaks to you, I would love to hear from you. The Sovereign Woman: Becoming Her - The Childhood Decisions Creating Your Adult Life
Have you ever wondered if the struggles you're facing today began long before adulthood? In this episode, I explore a powerful concept that transformed my understanding of personal growth: the childhood decisions we make before we even have the ability to fully understand ourselves or our circumstances.I share insights from my early coaching certification training and introduce the five core "life decisions" that often shape our identity, relationships, self-worth, emotional patterns, and life experiences. Together, we'll look at how these unconscious beliefs continue influencing our choices and why true transformation requires more than simply changing behavior. This conversation is an invitation to move beyond old coping strategies, uncover the false identities you've carried, and reconnect with the sovereign truth of who you really are. If you've ever felt stuck in repeating patterns, this episode offers a compassionate path toward greater awareness, freedom, and self-understanding.In this episode:The five childhood life decisions that shape adult behaviorHow identity creates repeated life patternsWhy awareness alone isn't enough for transformationThe difference between reacting from wounds and responding from truthPractical steps toward reclaiming your sovereigntyIf this episode resonates with you, reach out to me. The Sovereign Woman: Hold the Line - How to Stay True to Yourself When Fear Returns
In this episode, I explore one of the most important foundations of true sovereignty: learning how to stand in absolute truth rather than being ruled by fear, conditioning, past wounds, or the opinions of others. I share why so many of us have powerful breakthroughs, only to slip back into old patterns when life feels lonely, uncertain, or overwhelming.I talk about the difference between relative truth, which is shaped by our personal experiences and perceptions, and absolute truth, which is rooted in universal principles like love, oneness, and cause and effect. I also explain how identity shapes our behavior and why lasting transformation requires more than insight. It requires embodiment. When I learn to govern my inner life, I stop abandoning myself and begin making choices from steadiness, wisdom, and love.In this episode:How to distinguish relative truth from absolute truthWhy identity determines behavior and habitsHow fear disrupts sovereigntyPractical ways to return to truth when triggeredWhy steadiness matters more than perfectionIf this episode resonates with you, I would love to hear from you. The Sovereign Woman: The Addiction to Urgency - How to Slow Down, Trust Yourself, and Reclaim Your Power
Do you constantly feel like you’re running out of time… even when nothing is actually urgent? In this episode of the Sovereignty Series, Jenny Aiello explores the hidden emotional and psychological pattern of urgency — and how it keeps high-functioning, self-aware women stuck in cycles of pressure, anxiety, and overthinking. This isn’t about real emergencies. This is about the internal urgency that says:“I need to figure this out right now.”“I’m behind.”“If I don’t act now, I’ll miss my chance.”Urgency can feel like motivation — but it’s often rooted in fear, control, and lack of trust. In this powerful episode, you’ll learn how urgency impacts your nervous system, clouds your decision-making, and pulls you out of alignment with your truth. More importantly, you’ll discover how to pause, regulate, and return to your sovereignty — where your choices come from clarity instead of pressure. What You’ll Learn in This Episode:What urgency really is (and why it feels so convincing)The difference between urgency and intuitionHow urgency becomes an unconscious habit or addictionWhy slowing down can feel uncomfortable — and why it mattersHow urgency disconnects you from your power and presenceSimple ways to pause and make aligned, grounded decisionsIf you’re ready to step out of urgency and into a more grounded, aligned way of living, Jenny offers immersive experiences designed to help you reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. The Sovereign Woman: Stop Living in Constant Urgency
In this episode, I open the door to a new chapter of the podcast and a new conversation that has been unfolding quietly inside my own life: sovereignty. For many years, I lived the way many capable women do — moving quickly, solving problems, holding everything together, and living in a constant sense of urgency. From the outside, it looked like strength. But internally, my nervous system had learned to brace for the next crisis before the present moment was even finished.A moment during my sixtieth birthday trip to Sedona sparked a question that has stayed with me ever since: How is your sovereignty? That question began a deeper exploration of what it means to stop abandoning ourselves, to stop performing for our worth, and to begin living from the center of who we truly are.In this episode, I introduce the upcoming Sovereign Woman series and the journey we will take together — exploring urgency, boundaries, rest, self-trust, and the courage it takes to live in alignment with your truth. If something inside you is stirring as you listen, I would love to hear from you. Reach out, share your thoughts, and let’s begin this journey together.Key Takeaways:Many high-functioning women unknowingly live in chronic urgencySovereignty begins when we stop abandoning ourselvesHealing requires slowing down enough to hear our inner guidanceSelf-trust grows when we begin making decisions from alignment Work With JennySacred Wisdom RetreatsStep away from the noise and into a space of clarity, healing, and transformation: https://www.sacredwisdomretreats.comPrivate CoachingLooking for personalized support on your healing and growth journey? Healing Codependency After Divorce (Encore)
In this deeply personal encore episode of With Love, Jenny, I share the story of how my codependency quietly shaped my first love, my marriage, and ultimately my divorce. What began as an innocent teenage romance slowly turned into a pattern of shrinking myself to keep a relationship alive. I didn’t realize I had lost myself until I quite literally couldn’t see myself in the mirror anymore. This episode is about rediscovering who you are after heartbreak, divorce, or emotional loss. I talk about grief beyond death, healing codependency, setting boundaries, and how doing “the work” helped me come home to myself. If you’ve ever felt invisible in your own life, this conversation is for you.In this episode, I explore:How codependency can form without us realizing itWhy grief after divorce can feel overwhelming and complexThe power of boundaries in healthy loveWhat it means to reclaim your identityIf this resonates with you and you’re ready to begin your own healing journey, I would love to walk alongside you. Understanding Narcissism: The Hidden Architecture of Self (Part 2)
In this episode, I continue our deep and honest conversation about narcissism by exploring what really happens when a narcissistic relationship ends. These endings are not typical breakups. They are often disorienting, painful, and deeply destabilizing because they involve power, control, trauma bonds, and identity loss. I walk through the patterns I see again and again in my work with clients, as well as my own lived experience, to help you understand why these relationships unravel the way they do.I talk about why narcissistic relationships often end when the healthier partner begins to heal, set boundaries, and reclaim their voice. I explain why narcissists leave, how they rewrite history, why they appear to move on so quickly, and why their exit feels like abandonment even when they were the ones causing harm. I also address the profound emotional, nervous system, relational, financial, and spiritual costs of both staying and leaving. Most importantly, I want you to know this: if you are questioning yourself, your worth, or your sanity, you are not broken. Healing is possible, and clarity does come. If any part of this episode resonates with you, I invite you to reach out for support. You do not have to walk this path alone. [email protected]. Understanding Narcissism: The Hidden Architecture of Self (Part 1)
In this episode, I begin a two-part conversation about narcissism that is rooted in understanding, not labeling or blame. This is Part 1, where I lay the foundation by explaining what narcissism truly is and why it so often leaves people feeling confused, depleted, and disconnected from themselves. I explore both grandiose and covert narcissism, how these patterns form, and why they are driven by fragile self-esteem and survival rather than confidence or strength.I also talk about trauma bonding and why so many intelligent, compassionate people stay in relationships that quietly erode their sense of self. If you have ever questioned your reality, felt responsible for someone else’s emotions, or wondered why it felt so hard to leave, I want you to know there is nothing wrong with you. Your responses were adaptations, not flaws.Part 2 will take us deeper into what happens as these relationships unravel, how narcissistic dynamics often end, and what healing can actually look like once you understand what you are dealing with. We will also explore the question many people quietly ask themselves: what if I am the narcissist?Key takeaways:Narcissism is rooted in fragile self-esteem, not confidenceCovert narcissism is often harder to recognize but deeply destabilizingTrauma bonding explains why it is so hard to leaveConfusion is not weakness, it is a signalThis episode is about clarity, compassion, and reclaiming your inner truth. Behind the Veil of Addiction: A Young Mother’s Journey to Freedom (Part 1)
In this episode, I sit down with my daughter-in-law Heather, who bravely shares her raw and honest story of addiction, recovery, and rebuilding her life. She doesn’t just share her story—she offers hope, resilience, and a reminder that recovery is possible no matter how far gone things may seem.My hope is that by listening, you’ll gain compassion, understanding, and encouragement for your own journey—or for someone you love who may be struggling. When Love Isn’t Enough: The Truth About Addiction in the Family (Part 2)
When addiction entered my family, I never imagined the twists, heartbreaks, and small miracles that would unfold. When Love Isn’t Enough: The Truth About Addiction in the Family (Part 1) | Ep #42
Addiction often doesn’t just cost lives — it can cost freedom, too. Every year, Americans spend roughly $10 billion incarcerating people for drug offenses. Imagine half a million lives behind bars, each costing taxpayers over $20,000 a year. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Across the entire prison system, the U.S. spends more than $80 billion annually on corrections — money that could provide treatment, not just punishment. But on a more personal level, I walk you through one of the hardest things life has presented to me … my son’s addiction. My goal is to educate you… to help you… to open your eyes to see what is possible and what is happening if your child is using opioids or other substances. In this, and the next episode, I address key points for everyone who knows someone who is suffering from addiction:Financial Expectations/PressuresLegal System and ExperiencesRecovery Programs and Treatment OptionsThe Recovery Process from withdrawals to full sobrietyInsurance IssuesTherapeutic Help (why it is so necessary for all of you)Family DynamicsUnderstanding The Addict and What Addiction IsWhy it is called a Family DiseaseCodependencyDon’t forget to grab the meditation link below that supports you if you are going through the journey of loving someone who loves drugs more than themselves.I would love to support you as a coach. When the Soul Can’t Stay: Suicide, Spiritual Pain, and the Search for Peace | Ep #38
A raw, heart-opening look at the unseen anguish that drives someone to leave this world — and how spiritual understanding can help us begin to heal. This episode is part of my own healing journey. It is one of the hardest things I have experienced so far in my lifetime. Although it happened almost 30 years ago, time hasn’t fully healed, but it showed so much grace. In all, I hope this episode teaches us the importance of kindness in word and deed. The simplest teasing or joking could be a fatal blow to someone trying to hold on. It isn’t always the harsh bullying. And sometimes it’s our lack of attentiveness and presence. And sometimes it’s none of the above. And as always, if anything in this episode triggers you, please get professional help. Suicide & Spirituality — Key Insights We’ve TracedThe numbers re-order our assumptions. In 2022, the highest suicide rates were not among teenagers but among our elders: 1 in every 4300 lives were lost to suicide in those 85 years and older, and 1 in every 5000 people 75–84. Take-away: despair spans the whole life arc, so prevention must as well — compassion for elders is as urgent as vigilance for youth.Presence does not equal control. Survivor guilt grows from the noble but impossible wish that our love could override another’s final choice. Recognizing the boundary between influence and responsibility frees us to grieve without self-condemnation and to channel love into living memorials instead of endless “if-only” loops.Faith can wound or soothe. Some Christian voices still frame suicide primarily as sin; others foreground grace. You will have to find your own Truth around it. Healthy spirituality holds both the sanctity of life and the mystery of mercy, allowing us to wrestle honestly without fear that our loved one is beyond hope. The psyche under siege. Research points to cognitive constriction — a tunnel vision where options vanish — and moral injury, the deep wound of betrayal or violated values, as powerful drivers of suicidal thinking.Shadow work & shared safety. All traditions teach that unacknowledged hurt spills outward. Bringing the shadow into light — through therapy, confession, somatic practice, community rituals — protects both the sufferer and the circle.Core invitation. Widen the field of belonging: visit the elder, text the teenager, check the friend who jokes too sharply. Offer listening before advice, presence before solutions. Professional help and sacred ritual together weave the net that catches a soul when its own vision has narrowed to a single door.In short: Suicide sits heavy on our hearts. It also sits at the crossroads of statistics, spirituality, psychology, and community. Our most faithful response is not tidy answers but fierce, informed compassion — a commitment to meet every age and stage with practical resources, merciful theology, and the steady message: “You still belong; you are not alone.” Sacred Space Meditation: https://jennyaiello.com/meditation-thank-you/ ...the most recent episode will be at the top, but scroll down to see all the guided meditations for podcasts. Invisible Loss, Unspoken Love: Healing After a Miscarriage or Pregnancy Loss | Ep #37
This show addresses the topic of Pregnancy Loss… no matter how recent or long ago it was, there’s probably a part of you stuck in that memory. It is so important to process grief no matter how it shows up. In this case, through pregnancy loss. In this episode, I share my experience with a pregnancy that wasn’t viable. But there are many other ways to lose a baby. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as many as 10 to 20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, and that number may be even higher when including early losses that happen before someone even knows they’re pregnant. 1 in 100 pregnancies is ectopic - a dangerous and nonviable condition. Stillbirths, which occur after 20 weeks of gestation, affect about 1 in 160 pregnancies in the U.S.These numbers don’t just represent data — they represent women, families, hearts broken quietly behind closed doors. And how we each process that loss can look incredibly different.Don’t miss your free meditation specific to pregnancy loss here: https://jennyaiello.com/meditation-thank-you/ ...the most recent episode will be at the top, but scroll down to see all the guided meditations for podcasts. Healing Beyond Divorce | Ep #36
This show addresses the topic of divorce. If you’re not quite sure yet, or if you’re in the middle of it, or if it's years if not decades behind you, there’s always an invitation to heal.As of 2024, divorce statistics in the United States reveal some sobering insights:Approximately 41% of first marriages end in divorce.About 60% of second marriages conclude in divorce.Third marriages have a divorce rate of approximately 73%.The average duration of a first marriage before divorce is around eight years.Second marriages tend to last slightly longer, averaging about 11 years before divorce.Primary Causes of Divorce:Basic incompatibility is cited as the leading cause which indicates that both parties probably had wounds and traumas that they were not aware of that were wrecking their relationship. This reason accounted for 43% of divorces.Infidelity follows at 28%.Financial issues contribute to 22% of divorces. No matter what the story is around a divorce, everyone involved has an opportunity to heal. Society often encourages us to take sides, hold onto resentments, feel victimized while broken. It can be extremely vulnerable. It’s so important, when you are ready (and as soon as possible) to revisit the story. Take responsibility for how you got there, and then let go of everything that you don’t want to carry forward.Where ever you are in your post divorce era... let me just say this:Let go of any resentments.Let go of anger and bitterness.Learn to forgive.Take responsibility for where you are and how you got here.Push your ego aside and quit being right. Please don’t stay stuck in victim.Examine what beliefs lie underneath your divorce and transform them into something positive. Because you can. Here’s the free meditation I mentioned! When Life Breaks You Open: The Unexpected Gifts of Pain | Ep #35
This show is the kick-off to some really vulnerable and heart-felt episodes about MY real life. In this episode, I revealed some very vulnerable moments of my life, and I am giving you a glimpse into the deeper and more healing episodes coming up. If you have ever experienced one of the following, you will want to tune in!Divorce - Definitely a plot twist in my life plan!Miscarriage - How it differs from other losses.Losing Someone to Suicide - Another blow in my life plan, and the incredibly difficult grief that follows.Parenting Our Parents - Changing roles as our parents grow old. We will also cover topics such as elder abuse, scams, and when a guardianship and/or conservatorship are necessary.Caring for a Terminally Ill Family Member - Depending on the illness, there are moments that are sacred and there are moments of sadness. It is definitely a journey I didn’t want to be on, but found many gifts along the way.Caring for a Family Member with Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease - This was probably the hardest journey of all. In this episode I will share some of the most challenging moments, along with some funny stories about this ever so cruel disease. When Both Parents Are Gone - No matter how old you are, you might feel so much older once you don’t have a parent anymore. It’s easy to experience an identity shift. I felt lost at sea for almost a year. Looking for ways to navigate myself. I will share tips on how to move forward through grief.Substance Use and Mood Disorders - As you will hear in each episode, most of what I experienced as difficult were the things I never saw coming. Facing the challenges of mental health issues, along with substance use issues, was never on my radar. Yet this has been the longest and hardest of my healing journey. I vulnerably share how I missed the importance of learning all I could and then doing a better job navigating and advocating for my children. The Opioid Crisis and Addiction - Learning to walk the tightrope between enabling and supporting someone who is struggling with an addiction was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. This one is raw. This one will be quite candid about the lengths a mother will go to in order to protect her child, no matter how old they are. This one touches all of us in some way.Estrangement - What a plot twist this one was! When my daughter walked away from our family 13 years ago, I never would have imagined it would last this long. I grieved. I begged. I mourned. I prayed. And then I realized that I wasn’t going to get what I wanted, but I sure was getting what I needed. I needed to learn how to unhook from codependency (again). I had to learn to be whole and complete… on my own… and not give my power away so easily. Tune in. This one is a big one too!Narcissism - What it looks like. How it sneaks in and pulls the rug out from under you before you could ever see it coming. What to do if you find yourself dealing with a narcissist.Living with Chronic Pain - Physical pain, the chronic kind of pain, is something I never thought about. I had compassion but also curiosity when someone would say they had chronic pain. Where did it come from? How do you cope? This year I was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) after a terrible accident that left my right foot altered. The pain of the surgery and subsequent healing process was one thing… but the CRPS made no sense to me. That’s because it is born from our central nervous system. And after years of dealing with so much emotional pain, trauma, and constant worry, my nervous system let my body know it could handle no more! I’ll explain more in this episode, so I hope you’ll join me. It is fascinating! Why do you think that is? And more importantly, do you want to change it?We’re living longer than ever, and Marla believes the first person to live to 120 is already here. Could it be you? What does it take to live with that kind of longevity?Imagine retiring at 65 and having another 30 years to pursue a brand-new career or passion. That’s an incredible window of time for new possibilities, new achievements, and fresh adventures. The question is — what will you do with it? How’s your health, and is it set up to support an active, fulfilling lifestyle for the next three decades?Society starts aging us as soon as we hit 50. The AARP card shows up in the mail, followed by Medicare, and suddenly we’re labeled as “senior.” But we’re living in the longest phase of our lives, so let’s redefine what aging means! It all starts with mindset. Marla shares that she doesn’t yet know what her next big move will be, but she’s certain that when she turns 90, she’ll be starting a new business or venture!Let’s embrace this journey together and thrive at any age — it all begins right now, no matter what stage of life you’re in.If you’d like to join Marla’s community (open to all ages), you can find her at the Long Life Era Community on Facebook. And be sure to download the Long Life Era Pledge!***************The Dashby Linda EllisI read of a man who stood to speakat the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstonefrom the beginning…to the end.He noted that first came the date of birthand spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of allwas the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the timethat they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved themknow what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own,the cars…the house…the cash. What matters is how we live and loveand how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is leftthat can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enoughto consider what’s true and realand always try to understandthe way other people feel. And be less quick to angerand show appreciation moreand love the people in our liveslike we’ve never loved before. If we treat each other with respectand more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dashmight only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash…would you be proud of the things they sayabout how you spent YOUR dash? Triggers as Invitations: A Transformative Path to Healing | Ep #31
In this episode, we dive into the hidden layers of our triggers and how they’re often a reflection of our own healing journey — not the person who triggered us.Trauma bonds are more common than we think. We tend to connect with people who share similar experiences, not only because we relate, but because we unconsciously form unspoken agreements to protect our shared wounds. At first, these bonds feel strong, but as the relationship deepens, the person we once saw as our perfect match (and still may) inevitably triggers the hidden landmine of our trauma, and chaos ensues. My coach once told me, “When someone hurts or frustrates you, write them a thank-you note and do your work.” At the time, it stung! But her wisdom was undeniable: it’s not about the other person — it’s about what’s happening inside of you. Triggers are invitations to heal. The more we heal, the fewer triggers we experience.Kristin and I explore the patterns of triggers and trauma, and how they can spark transformative healing when we recognize our role in the cycle. We also discuss the ways we cope with (and often hide) our trauma: avoidance, procrastination, anxiety, depression, people-pleasing, overworking, substance abuse, and even health crises. The key is awareness — once you identify your coping mechanisms, you can start making changes. Healing takes time, but it is always possible. There is no trauma too big to heal, and with that healing, you can unlock a happier, more functional version of yourself. A Mother's Resilient Heart (Part 3): Moving Forward Through Grief and Love | Ep #27
In Part 3 of our series, we continue our conversation with Dawn Lohr, who shares the profound and challenging journey she faced with her son’s mental health issues and substance use disorder. Dawn opens up about the heartache of losing her son, who took his own life at the age of 26. In this episode, she reflects on her ongoing grief and the strategies that help her navigate through it.Dawn’s story highlights the difficulties of empathically supporting someone who is grieving. It’s easy to wish for a return to “normal,” but for those who are grieving, that normalcy may never return. The initial outpouring of support often wanes, leaving individuals to face their loss with diminishing attention from others. For those seeking ways to support someone in the early days or years of their grief, consider the following:Thoughtful Gifts: A soft blanket, a teacup, a journal, a candle, or planting a tree in memory.Acts of Kindness: Offer to take them to lunch, visit briefly, bring a meal, or share stories about the person they lost.Personal Touch: Send heartfelt cards with personal messages, sharing cherished memories and expressing your care. Avoid giving unsolicited advice; instead, offer support and acknowledge their unique grief journey.Remember, grief is personal and doesn’t follow a set timeline. Simply saying, “I don’t know what to say, but I’m here for you,” can be deeply comforting. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, please reach out to 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. A Mother's Resilient Heart (Part 1): Navigating Brain Injury, Mental Health & Substance Use | Ep #25
Guest speaker Dawn Lohr shares her son’s journey from an outgoing kid who was a great soccer goalie, to a major concussion and subsequent thoughts of suicide. She walks us through the timeline of events that shaped a parent’s worst nightmare - in and out of treatment programs, psychiatric hospitals, and multiple attempts to take his life. Dawn shares how her faith and self-care helped her make it through some of the most difficult experiences while simultaneously raising her four children. In this episode, we raise awareness of 1) brain health and how important it is to make sure your child is getting proper care after a concussion and at the same time, watching their behavior for changes in the years to follow, 2) learning that it is up to you as the parent to navigate the system and advocate for your child’s care. Often, traumatic brain injury leads to self-medicating, which can lead to addiction issues. Finding programs that treat both mental health issues and substance use disorders (a dual diagnosis) is not easy… but it is very necessary. Know the difference. Ask good questions. Get support, and 3) once you find a good place for your loved one to recover, it can be devastating when they choose to leave and say they don’t want help. Refusing treatment or even medication is part of the journey and renders you helpless. You might also encounter wait lists and financial challenges that come with long-term treatment, but there is hope. You have no choice but to keep going, keep seeking help, and make sure your child or loved one knows they are needed and wanted. It is a journey no one wants to experience but one that happens more often than expected. Here are some important statistics:Suicidal Thoughts: Alarmingly common, affecting 13 million adults and 3.4 million adolescents. In 2023, 1 in 20 U.S. adults, or 13.2 million people, experienced serious suicidal thoughts.Substance Use Disorder (SUD): 50 million Americans struggled with SUD in 2023.Illicit Drug Use: 70.3 million people aged 12 and older used illicit drugs in 2023.Mental Health and SUD: Nearly 1 in 4 adults faced mental illness in 2023. Additionally, 77 million U.S. adults experience both mental health and substance use disorders.Co-occurring Disorders: 18.2% of adults with a mental illness also suffer from co-occurring SUD. Over 60% of teens in substance use treatment programs also meet criteria for a mental health disorder.Treatment Gaps: Only 9.1% of individuals with co-occurring disorders receive treatment for both conditions. This first episode of our 3-Part Series may be difficult to listen to, but we hope you approach it with compassion and empathy for those who may be navigating these challenging experiences with a loved one. Choosing Empowerment: 3 Lessons When Things Fall Apart | Ep #21
In this episode, we continue the story that began in the previous episode… when things don’t go as planned. Jenny shares a story of how at first, she didn’t think she was getting what she wanted. But in fact, a lot of what she got was something she asked for! Strange, huh? When things go terribly wrong, and there is nothing you can do to make them get back on track, there’s usually something bigger and Divine at play. But how do you know? How can you trust that? And how do we choose to be empowered by circumstances that are beyond our control?Three lessons we talk about specifically when things go awry…Thoughts become things, so choose them wisely. There’s always a blessing somewhere. The sooner you find it the better you’ll be.Pay attention to the helpers who show up, and the messengers that seemingly appear out of the blue! Our stories in this podcast are rich. They hold so much wisdom and so much depth that it’s hard to fathom how so much could happen just so we could hear and see the path that better serves our highest good. But we must be awake to notice it. We must be tuned into possibilities as much as we are tuned into our own disappointments and frustrations. We’d love to hear your stories. Go back to a time when things went sideways and you felt disappointed or sad as a result. See what there is for you to learn. Think about what your thoughts were going into the experience. Accepting What Is: 5 Steps to Embracing Unmet Expectations | Ep #20
In this episode, I share a personal story of something I worked to achieve for 9 months… something I really wanted… only to have it all fall apart. At first sight, it looked tragic and sad. But in time, I learned that things were actually falling into place. There was a deep and meaningful experience I was having that offered me so much more than the experience I hoped for. And it changed my life path. It clarified the direction I needed to go in. It called me out for playing small. It showed me the role my faith played in how I chose to live my life.God’s voice was loud, so I finally heard it. Not that God was yelling at me… but maybe calling for me.Once I accepted what was… everything around me changed. I saw more clearly what was right in front of me. And I learned how to accept what is, rather than wish for what isn’t. I learned to cope with disappointment and let go of unmet expectations. I also learned that when things aren’t going the way I intended, it must mean there’s a better way… one that serves my highest good, even if I can’t see what that is quite yet.In this episode, we discussed a 5-step process that led me to this place of acceptance:Pause. Stop and silence your thoughts. Stay in the pause for just long enough to see what is happening around you.Define it. Name it. Put form around the experience. Whatever is happening, encapsulate it so it is more manageable and easier to accept.Ask it why it is here. What is it trying to teach you? What is the message you need to hear that it is communicating to you?Practice acceptance and gratitude. Simultaneously accept and be grateful for the experience you’re having. Gratitude opens our hearts. Gratitude takes us out of confusion and victimhood. It’s a powerful tool.Surrender to what IS happening and let go of whatever you thought should happen. This is easier said than done. Our ego gets a stronghold on something, and it doesn’t let go easily. But the sooner we accept what is, and let go of resisting it, the less we suffer. It is said that pain is inevitable in life. Suffering is optional. That is so true! We all have painful experiences. No one is exceptional or gets a free pass around that. But our suffering comes when we won’t accept what is. Especially if “what is” is unacceptable! But accept we must if we are to live free and true and authentic.Further discussion takes place in the Blessing Room over on Patreon. Click here to join our growing community! Discovering Your Money Personality (Part 2) | Ep #19
Today we are continuing our conversation about money! Specifically, in this episode, we highlight eight different Money Archetypes. We dive into each of their strengths, challenges, and gifts. We all have a money personality. Did you know that? Do you know what yours is? Are you a Nurturer? Or Romantic? Or Maverick? In this episode we dive into some root beliefs that we developed and or inherited as a child. Our grandparents' and parents' relationship with money influenced what we were taught about money. This can become a problem if your money archetype (personality) conflicts with what you've been taught about money. The key is 1) to know your dominant Money Archetype and 2) know how to align to that archetype, as well as work with the strengths, challenges, and gifts it offers. After listening to all the archetypes, you’ll be able to closely identify with at least one (maybe two) that most resonate with you.In our Blessing Room over on Patreon you can join our membership and learn how to align to your Money Archetype by journaling to three very important questions. Discovering Your Money Personality (Part 1) | Ep #18
We all have a money personality. Did you know that? Do you know what yours is?In this episode we dive into some root beliefs that we developed and or inherited as a child. Our grandparent’s and parent’s relationship with money influenced what we were taught about money. This can become a problem if your money archetype (personality) conflicts with what you've been taught about money. The key is 1) to know your dominant money archetype and 2) know how to align to that archetype, as well as work with the strengths, challenges, and gifts it offers.Questions we explored together include:What is your earliest memory of money? What did you learn about what it was and what it was for? When did you make your first dollar? Were you given an allowance as a child? Or more you taught to earn any money you were given? When did you get your first job? How did it feel to receive your first paycheck?Would you say you grew up in a home that felt abundant or one that operated more in scarcity? What beliefs were you taught about money?Do you know how to create and effectively use a budget? What do you believe about your worth and value? Before learning our money archetype, we want to start exploring what we know about ourselves and our relationship with money. We dive deeper into an understanding of our Money Archetype in the Blessing Room over at Patreon. The link is below. In the blessing room, you will find a questionnaire that will point you in the direction of your sacred money archetype. If you haven't joined our membership community, you will be given enough information in our next podcast to determine a close guess to what your archetype is. But we’d just love for you to join our growing community in The Blessing Room! Either way, you don't want to miss our next episode where we dive into the specific strengths, challenges, and gifts of each money personality! Coming in 2 weeks! Trauma and How It Impacts Our Lives with Grace Scarborough (Part 2) | Ep #17
This episode is Part 2 of a 2-part series on releasing trauma. We continue the discussion to learn how to recognize when trauma is present. Trauma vs. Anxiety or fear. The Fight, Flight or Freeze responses and how to work through them. We discussed the painfully slow pace of SE and why it provides powerful trauma releases! If anything in today’s episode triggered a trauma memory or response, Grace shared some tips for how to get support right away:Go outside. Put your bare feet on the ground and breathe. Orient yourself… wherever you are, look at everything around you. Get present to your surroundings.Walk through the woods or forest, or on the beach. Get into nature.Look at something beautiful: A flower, the lush green grass, the color of the sky, whatever holds beauty for you. Call a friend or family member and just touch base. Relational connection will most definitely support you. It is important not to talk about what triggered you though, or it might set you back!Believe it or not, everyone is walking around with some form of trauma. It impacts your quality of life. It impacts your relationships. It impacts your choices. Trauma and How It Impacts Our Lives with Grace Scarborough (Part 1) | Ep #16
I love this episode because of the impact it has had on my personal life. I had no idea how much trauma had built up in my nervous system until I began scheduling Somatic Experience sessions with today’s guest. Grace Scarborough is a Somatic Experience Practitioner, and she has taught me so much about the lasting effects and subsequent impact in our relationships and quality of life… due to trauma. What is trauma? When a nervous system registers or perceives ‘threat.’ It means “too much, too fast.” In the simplest of terms “too much” was happening for us to cognitively process so the emotional aspect gets stuck and stored in our nervous system. It can be a single incident or cumulative incidents (multiple incidents). This is followed by a cascade of hormones (adrenalin and cortisol).Trauma is a moment stuck in time. As far as our body is concerned, what happened 30 years ago or 30 minutes ago are the same. Life threat excites the survival mechanisms in the body of fight or flight. It can happen in the moment, or it can happen in the memory of that moment or the memory of a series of incidents.Somatic Experience is a gentle but powerful way to release nervous system responses (trauma) that are stuck (sometimes for decades or even lifetimes). If anything in today’s episode triggered a trauma memory or response, Grace shared some tips for how to get support right away:Go outside. Put your bare feet on the ground and breathe.Orient yourself… wherever you are, look at everything around you. Get present to your surroundings.Walk through the woods or forest, or on the beach. Surrender: Find Peace, Serenity, and Freedom! | Ep #15
Today, we are discussing the art of surrender. How do you do it? How can letting go of control bring peace and not anxiety? For us who love control, surrender is an interesting concept to consider! I share 5 steps that help me when I need to stop forcing and start allowing things to fall into place.Do you continue to stubbornly force a square peg into a round hole, no matter how long it takes? I do! But I have learned that when something is stuck or not making progress, I need to consider that there is a better way. When I step back and allow things to simply happen… rather than force them to… I let go of a lot of angst! And I have more energy to use for other things. We discussed 5 steps that help me let go of control and surrender:Accept what is. What is the current of life wanting to see happen and how I am I getting in the way of that?Ask the situation what it’s trying to teach you. Step out of the frustration long enough to see what its teaching you! The sooner you learn, the better the flow!Apply gratitude to the situation. HUGE STEP! Giving thanks for creating an outcome that is SUPPOSED to happen, while letting go of what doesn’t need to happen, can be serving our highest good! So, give thanks for that guidance.Last, surrender to what IS happening instead of trying to control what isn’t. You have a choice about how you’re going to respond, and if you surrender to that choice, you stand a much better chance of not having the situation spiral down into helpless victim status. To me, laying back in a state of surrender is all about TRUSTING something other than yourself… God, higher power, angels, the universe, whatever!Stay unattached to the outcome. Quit looking at what you wanted and start looking for the miracle or blessing in whatever it was that you got. If you continue to stare at a closed door, you miss everything that lies outside the open window! Our resistance is a huge cause of suffering. Acceptance. Curiosity. Gratitude. And Surrender are the keys to transcending the discomfort of our stories. The Drama Triangle and Why It's So Addicting! | Ep #14
The Drama Triangle. What is it? What role do we play in it? Why do we get so stuck in it? In this episode, we discuss all the ways we enter drama and how simple it is to get out. Simple, but not easy. The role of Victim. Perhaps one of the most widely used roles in the Drama Triangle! Why do we play victim? When do we play victim? How does being the victim benefit us? These are all hard questions to answer sometimes, and most of the time, we don’t like the answers once we do.The role of Persecutor. Any time we find ourselves blaming or shaming another person or situation, we are entering the Drama Triangle by way of persecuting someone else for our own triggers. It’s a natural defense mechanism that happens very quickly and often escalates in a matter of seconds. Pointing fingers at someone… using the word “You…” to begin every sentence… Blaming and shaming are all signs you’ve entered the Drama Triangle and are in full EGO mode. The role of Rescuer. For many people who are especially empathic or supportive, this is an easy role that leads you straight into the Drama Triangle. You LOVE to rescue people from their own suffering or mistakes. You step in uninvited and ready to solve all of their issues. The way this often plays out is the other person gets upset and offended when you try to fix them… or their situation… and lash out at you for doing so. They become the persecutor, you then become the victim, “I was just trying to help!”ARGUMENTS usually play out between a victim and persecutor. They enter a huge power struggle and won’t back away because they are convinced one is right and the other is wrong. Neither are capable from inside the Drama Triangle to recognized they are indeed part of the problem. They feel justified and vindicated in their actions. How to step away from the Drama Triangle? First, pause and do not react. This is the hardest part. Then, second, accept what is. Name it. What is happening right now? What am I feeling about what is happening? In what ways have I experienced this feeling in the past? What do I need right now to calm myself? Why do I feel the need to defend or protect myself? Once you have done that, surrender to whatever is happening. Don’t give up and walk away, but surrender. Let go of the outcome and tell yourself, “This person is hurting too. I wonder what is going on that would have him/her react to me like that.” Be in inquiry. Recognize that most often, it isn’t about you even if they make it about you. Remind yourself that you are okay, and you can keep the focus on the other without rescuing them from the situation. This is obviously a DEEP and COMPLEX topic. But we loved diving into the thick of it! Let us know your thoughts and experiences with stepping away from the drama in your life! A Mountaintop Experience: Lessons from the Climb of My Life! | Ep #13
This episode features a story about a time when I had to face perhaps the biggest challenge of my life. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, I was pushed to the edge, literally. As I attempted to climb to the top of a huge mountain, Huayna Picchu, in Peru, I was unprepared for the journey ahead. This is a climb that rises over 1000 feet in elevation, and all of it is almost straight up. The path and stairways are primitive. They even named part of the trail “The Stairs of Death!”What do you do when you want to quit and turn back, but know you can’t live with yourself if you do? How do you approach those kinds of challenges? In this episode, we discuss seven steps that will support you when you make a commitment to break a habit, start a new habit, accept a challenge, set a new goal, or pursue something you’re passionate about. Those steps:Commit. Make the commitment to complete the task at hand. If you’re new at this, start small. The goal is to set yourself up to succeed!Prepare. What do you need to do to help you be successful? Set boundaries. Build in accountability. Reward yourself with boxes to check each day, or find a way to track your progress!Stop now and then to Breathe! Sometimes when I begin a new endeavor, I’m afraid if I stop, I will never start again. I don’t like breaking my streaks, so instead, I often burn out. I don’t allow room for rest. You can run 10 marathons, but not all at once! So give yourself some grace and allow yourself and life to unfold around your pursuit. * The exception? If you are trying something like quitting smoking, you may not want to give yourself permission to slip. The addiction to nicotine is strong and in that case, you don’t want to experience a huge setback! Set yourself up to win.Ask for help. You can ask others, or you can pray, and ask God or angels or a loved one to help you with the challenge before you. There is a spiritual law of non-interference that says your guardian angel cannot step in unless you ask… so don’t forget to ask!Perspective. It helps to get a perspective on how far you’ve come, and how far you have left to go. Don’t allow either of those to discourage you but do give yourself credit for the progress you’ve made.Expect Setbacks. With any good challenge, you are most likely going to experience a setback. Go with it. Don’t let it derail your motivation. I like to plan for it so that when it arrives, I’m ready. But that’s my controlling nature! Setbacks are not an excuse to quit. But sometimes, no matter what we do, progress is not being made. In that case, it’s always good to evaluate and determine how to pivot or change the timing. That comes from a gut feeling, a knowing, not from our ego that tells us to give up. So pay close attention to where the information is coming from.CELEBRATE! Bask in the glory of accomplishing your goal. It doesn’t matter if you set the goal for seven days or seven weeks or one year! Celebrate the completion of that goal. Then set your sights on a new one! Healing Our Way Through the Darkness (Part 2) | Ep #12
This is the second episode in a 2-part series. In Episode 1, we discussed five tools to help us navigate through the darkness. In this episode, we discuss five more tools to use before, during or after our darkest hours.Using the tools of:Acceptance. Not tolerance, but acceptance. Whatever is there, accept it.Support. Knowing how to choose the right kind of support is very important because when you are going through darkness, you are raw and vulnerable. Harsh people, places and things can be very damaging.Boundaries. Understanding and using boundaries are essential at any stage of life!Professional Support. We don’t have to do this alone. It’s easy for some of us to shut everyone out, but the truth is, we need each other. Find a good coach, therapist, trauma specialist, or someone who can give you objective feedback with compassion, without compromise.Mindfulness. Believe it or not, this tool is one powerful tool! Practicing mindfulness brings to the present and out of the future or past. Meditation, Breathwork, Visualizations, Grounding, Forest Bathing… there are so many ways to practice mindfulness. The Vulnerability of Brokeness (Part 2) | Ep #10
Continuing our discussion from our last episode, we are further exploring how to have the courage to work through our own vulnerability and brokenness. We explore our need to connect to our own Spirit and our awareness of how that connects us to some sort of Higher Power, God, whatever you might call that. We discuss a lot about the relationship between Love and Spirituality and our connection to Spirit and how that relates to our own vulnerability. How does religion differ from spirituality, and can you have both? What do you put your faith in?How do we look for Light and connect to our Higher Power when we are walled off and shut down? What happens when a child is born into a home of trauma and abuse… can they still find that Light? Yes, because that Light is within. We come into this world carrying that Light. And sometimes others reflect that Light back to us… they see us, they see our Light, and it reminds us that we have it.Be Light to others. Be Light for others. And look for it in others as well. And when you do, eventually, it’s going to be okay. You will get through the darkness.Make a difference, and walk someone closer to finding their own Light.
