The Good Sleep Guide For Neurodivergent Kids! With Dr Melisa Moore

Melisa Moore, PhD, is the author of The Good Sleep Guide for Neurodivergent Kids. A clinical psychologist board certified in behavioral sleep medicine, she works at the sleep center at Rady Children's Health San Diego. She also has a practice in the Los Angeles area working with children, teens, and young adults across the country for a variety of sleep and mood issues, specializing in neurodiversity.I've talked so much in previous episodes of the podcast about how difficult and unnatural I've found sleep since I was a child and I know for parents of neurodivergent children, sleep issues can cause huge amounts of stress and upset. Melisa was the perfect person to get on the podcast to talk to about how we can help neurodivergent children with sleep problems and potentially also help ourselves too! Stimming, Self Regulation, Safe Spaces & Silliness! With Erin Fung!

In possibly my most unmasked and unfiltered episode yet, I've got my bestie, Erin, on to talk about our stims, tics, the ways we self regulate and then a ton of our usual tangents. This episode is a completely natural, unmasked conversation between two really good mates and contains dodgy accents, a load of vocal stims, silly voices and mayhem but hopefully it will be relatable and can help eradicate some of the stigma attached to openly stimming. S.E.N.D. Help! With AuDHDacious Humans!

Martha and Jenni met as teachers at the same progressive school where their kids werestudents and became each other's children's key teachers. Jenni ran mini shopping trolleyraces down corridors with Martha's son for vestibular regulation. Martha provided Jenni'sdaughters with peanut balls to bounce on so they could focus enough to write andcalculate Maths whilst reciting favourite Bluey episodes.Despite 40 years combined teaching experience and knowing exactly whatneurodivergent children needed, they both realised their own AuDHD/PDA kids weren'tschool-shaped. Not even alternative-school-shaped. So over 3 years ago, they left theirteaching jobs and the education system and started their real education. When they couldn't find home ed clubs that could accommodate their demand-avoidantchildren, they created Make & Create Club: a flexible, low-demand space where rulemakers, rule breakers thrive. They offer community, advocacy and the freedom to beyourself. Now through AuDHDacious Humans, they provide online support for discombobulatedfamilies to understand sensory systems, reframe behaviour, and ditch systems that breakthem. They've lived this experience too, as late-diagnosed AuDHDers, parenting pressure-sensitive children, unravelling everything they thought they knew about parenting and education. Some people call it a journey. They call it a reckoning.Website: www.audhdacious.comEmail: [email protected]: @audhdacious.humansBuy your copy of ADHD Magazine here!Send me your little wins so I can celebrate you on the podcast by either sliding into my DMs on instagramor email me at [email protected] Find your local ADHDAF+ peer support group here!Support neurodivergent independent businesses: Shop at Born Anxious using the code AUDHD15 for a special price! You can help support The Big ADHD Fundraiser by buying a Dave Kirkman hoodie here!Purchase your official hidden disabilities sunflower lanyard here!

Celebrating Our Weird! With Holly Matthews

As we all know, the reason I named the podcast AuDHD Or Just A Bit Weird is because that's what I've always been called throughout my life and always in a derogatory manner... But since starting the podcast I've reclaimed weird as a positive thing and this is where the amazing Holly Matthews comes into the picture...Holly Matthews is a former TV actress (Byker Grove, Waterloo Road, Casualty) and singer (Signed to Sony at 18, appeared on TOTP’s, MTV, Disney) who learnt how to use her ‘weird’ to stand out from the crowd. After the death of her husband to brain cancer in 2017, when she was just 32, the mum of 2 began her mission to help others to embrace their own ‘weird’, build their confidence and feel ‘more happy and less crappy’.The Happy Me Project runs events across the UK, is an online coaching membership, podcast and has seen Holly asked to speak and create workshops for Aldi, SEND prison, Sainsburys and wellbeing festivals across the UK.For all things Holly...Be weird (er) LiveThe Happy Me Project Membership Your FREE Weird is your Winning Edge Unmasking workbook + pep talkBuy your copy of ADHD Magazine here!Send me your little wins so I can celebrate you on the podcast by either sliding into my DMs on instagramor email me at [email protected] Find your local ADHDAF+ peer support group here!Support neurodivergent independent businesses: Shop at Born Anxious using the code AUDHD15 for a special price! You can help support The Big ADHD Fundraiser by buying a Dave Kirkman hoodie here!Purchase your official hidden disabilities sunflower lanyard here!

Swimming, Feeling Fraudulent & Coaching Coaches With Sally Cater

SO MUCH TO CRAM IN TO ONE EPISODE!!!! But I think I've managed it! There's a mega life update at the beginning and then I had the pleasure this week of chatting with the amazing Sally Cater who is a coach who coaches coaches! I've been keen to find out more about coaching and what training to become one involves and Sally was happy to help me out but as usual with all of my guests, we go off on some fun tangents including swimming in the sea, Sally's impending ADHD assessment, her amazing talent for napping and her brush with the law! (The two hilariously go hand in hand!)In Sally's own words...I spent more than a decade working at the British Red Cross, including training frontline crisis teams to provide psychosocial support in some unbelievably difficult conditions. During this time, I became an Accredited Senior Practitioner Coach with the EMCC and hold the ILM highest level in Advanced Coaching and Mentoring. After striking out on my own as a leadership consultant and executive coach. I combined both my lived experience and formal learning in ADHD with the understanding gained from many years supporting neurodivergent clients to design and deliver an ICF accredited ADHD course for coaches. I really needed the support that ADHD coaching gave me and I know there are loads of brilliant people out there that could really benefit from ADHD coaching and so we need you to be part of that community. With over 2000 hours of coaching across technology, healthcare, and automotive industries, I adopt a whole-self approach to non-directive coaching. Here's To Health & Happiness! With Erin Fung

Health anxiety has been something that has monopolized a lot of my thought processes since I was a child and I know many other neurodivergent people who also struggle with this. As my mate Erin is one of those people and she's someone I trust and find it easy to talk to her I knew she was the perfect person to have on the podcast to talk about it, however, our brains had other ideas and at the halfway mark we segued nicely into talking about what makes us happy, learning to allow ourselves to be happy eradicating the shame attached to being drawn to the more traditionally childish and geeky things that we love and that make us super happy!Enjoy! For all things Erin related click here!Send me your little wins so I can celebrate you on the podcast by either sliding into my DMs on instagramor email me at [email protected] Support neurodivergent independent businesses: Shop at Born Anxious using the code AUDHD15 for a special price!Find your local ADHDAF+ peer support group here! You can help support The Big ADHD Fundraiser by buying a Dave Kirkman hoodie here!Purchase your official hidden disabilities sunflower lanyard here!

So Now What?! With Blair Kelly

Approximately 18 billion years ago I had a really good mate called Blair who was a fellow quirky person with an awesome sense of humour and never judged me for being my weirdy self. Over the years we lost touch and I always wondered what became of them... until one day a few weeks ago when Blair turned up in my "people you may know" on Instagram... Without hesitating (naturally impulsive nature anyone?!) I added Blair and got chatting... and would you believe it.... Blair was diagnosed with ADHD 2 days after me!!! I'm thrilled that Blair was happy to come on the podcast so we could catch up and talk about how we are feeling post diagnosis. Please note that this is a very candid chat between two old mates who hadn't seen each other in an age. We cover a ton of topics and I'm so grateful for Blair coming on the podcast to share their story. Blair is a Scottish vocal coach, lecturer, songwriter and performance artist based in South London. They are the founder and artistic director of Errata, London’s Queerest Choir and collaborates frequently with LGBTQIA+ choirs and vocal groups. Please bear in mind that this is a chat between two good mates who both have a slightly wicked sense of humour so some of the stuff we say should be taken with a pinch of salt.I'll be back in a couple of weeks to start season 2 and to resolve last episode's cliff-hanger! Planning a Perfectly AUDHD Christmas With Hester Grainger

The Importance Of Peer Support with Laura Mears Reynolds

October is ADHD Awareness month and what better way to kick things off than a chat with the Queen of the Leopard Print Army, Laura Mears Reynolds, about the importance of peer support. Laura started up the ADHDAF+ charity in order to connect and empower late diagnosed people of marginalised genders in the UK and form peer support groups. I know how important peer support can be after growing up in a world that's geared towards neurotypical people. The usual triggers warnings apply to this episode because we do tackle a couple of tricky topicsAlso, starting this week, I want to celebrate your small things that are actually big wins! Too often we struggle with daily tasks that would seem like a small thing to a neurotypical person, yet we struggle to do them. AuDHD coach Meghann Birks Part 1

Meghann Birks is an AuDHD Jack of all Trades, Master of Some. Her resume could be used as an example of what neurodivergence might look like in women with experience in a huge variety of industries including academia, community development, non-profit, corporate, fitness,  performance, art and comedy. She currently works as a Certified Professional Coach and Embodiment Educator, specialising in helping neurodivergent folk in leadership positions and creating neuroaffirming work cultures. She believes that deep, transformative work can be both silly and powerful, and that the life changing power of Hold On by Wilson Phillips is seriously underestimated. I'm super excited to share this first half of my chat with Meghann, she is a fascinating, informed and super funny person who shared so much with me from coaching, life experience and raw dogging life unmedicated to cross fit and how movement is so important! As usual this episode comes with the usual trigger warnings but hopefully people can gain from everything Meghann and I talk about over the next two episodes.Buckle up and enjoy!

There are some funny moments, some serious moments, brief mentions of drug use and the usual trigger warnings apply. I haven't talked in too much depth yet about my autistic traits so I really appreciate Sam creating a safe place for me to do this.I was so excited to have Sam on as a guest and I'm incredibly grateful for her giving up her time to talk to me and for being so open and honest. AuDHD... or just a flakey friend...?

Keeping hold of friendships throughout my life has always felt tougher than it should be and often felt like an unreliable friend. Over the past couple of years I've started to understand why and what I can do about it to maintain the friendships I've got and also how to avoid the friendships that maybe aren't worth maintaining.

What do I wish my parents did differently...?

I had a message recently from a listener whose son has been diagnosed with ADHD, asking me what I wish my parents had done differently if I had been diagnosed as neurodivergent in childhood. As my parents are no longer around, it has taken me a while to be ok with releasing this as they aren't here to give their version of events or weigh in on what I'm saying. I do, however, think my childhood could have been a happier one had they have known about my neurodivergence and done things differently. Hopefully this episode can help any parents of neurodivergent children tweak the language they use with their children and the expectations they may have of them.
