How to Tell Someone They're on the Wrong Path (Doctrine & Covenants 49-50) Come Follow Me

Be the first to know about free videos, classes, and resources by getting my free newsletter here: www.innerstrength.me/faithI'm standing in the bathroom brushing my teeth. I think to myself," If she stays at this school, it's only going to get worse." My sweet daughter was becoming less sweet. She was coming home from school angry, and I knew why. I had received multiple promptings that she needed to transfer schools.But... This was my strong-willed child.I tilt back my head and let out a huge sigh. I know that if I make her transfer, it will not go well.It has to be her decision. If I'm being honest, she gets some of that from me. If I decide I should do something, I'm 100% all-in. But tell me to do something I don't believe in, and good luck-because it's not going to happen. I think there's some of that in most of us. That's probably why we chose to be here. We decided it was a good plan. Heavenly Father helped us get to that decision. Turns out, He's pretty good at that. So next time you have a child or a friend ready to make a tough decision... or you see someone headed the wrong way, help them the way heaven does. Help them see the right decision. In this week's episode, I walk through the 5 steps the Lord took to do just that for some of his children who had been misled. And, by the way, it works. My daughter came up to me a few weeks later and said," Mom, I want to transfer to that school." And guess what? It was one of the best decisions SHE ever made. This can be used along with your study of Come Follow Me or simply to gain insight on how the scriptures help us in real, actual life! The principles can also be used to teach kids, teens, or adults.

How Satan Gets in Your Head (D&C 10-11 Come Follow Me)

How does Satan get in your head so easily?Of course, sin opens the door for him.But...He's in your head way more often than when you sin.So, how does he do it?How does he get to you so easily?Well, he's really good at stirring up emotions. It turns out that emotions overpower the still small whisperings of the spirit about a million to one.So...He doesn't have to get you to sinin order for you to not hear the spirit. He just has to get youmadsadfrustratedupsetirritatedor annoyed. You get the point. The emotion rises up inside you, and suddenly it's all you can think about.Sneaky, huh.In this week's episode, I talk all about this and about what you can do to protect yourself from Satan's trickly little stirring stick.

  22. 68

When we Blow it and Miss an Opportunity

Shame is nasty.   You mess up, you know it, and your brain says you're a failure. Failures are garbage, so, you must be worthless.   Yuck.   Satan loves shame. It's probably his favorite tool.   But it's a lie.   Sometimes the most valuable growth we have comes from our biggest mistakes.   We sit there and think about how horrible it is that we can't get it together and probably never will.   Heaven sees the mistake, shows us the lesson, and says,   "You're not in trouble. Here's what you need to know. Pick up the lesson, keep walking, you're going to be fine."   So, whatever you're beating yourself up about this week, let me relay a message to you:   You're not in trouble. Pick up the lesson, keep walking. You're going to be fine.

When You Can't Live up to Expectations (Doctrine & Covenants 3-5 Come Follow Me)

Simplify for Sanity PDF and Challenge: https://www.innerstrength.me/simplifypdf Everyone expects so much of you.   Because you're a good person, you tend to do your best not to let them down.   It's human nature.   But then this tricky thing happens.   Sometimes... okay most times...   God asks us to do hard things.   We start doing them... and then it gets hard.   It looks like there is no way we can succeed on our own.   Did the analysis, definitely not qualified. And then fear of what people will think creeps in. Before we know it, we're desperately trying NOT TO FAIL instead of trusting God to help us succeed.   My brain does that fear thing way too often.   But here's the truth:   You will always fall short when your motivation is fear instead of faith.   Why?   Because your brain is trying to figure out if you can handle it based on what your eyes see and your brain knows.   It leaves God out of the equation.   So, in the moment when you know you aren't enough, it feels impossible to trust God's promises more than the evidence in front of your eyes.   It's a struggle Joseph Smith struggled with, too.   In this episode, I talk about the life-changing lessons he learned from one of the biggest mistakes he ever made.   And-   What each of us can learn about what to do when our logic says God's logic is wrong.

  24. 66

Helping Kids Through a Faith Crisis (Joseph Smith History, Come Follow Me)

Simplify for Sanity PDF and Challenge: www.innerstrength.me/simplifypdf How do you help kids through a faith crisis?   How do you respond when they question what they've always believed?   3 steps.   First: Don't be afraid of their doubts.   A faith crisis happens when we, or our kids, realize there is a gap in what we know.   It pushes us to find answers and to learn things we don't know.   A faith crisis is meant to INCREASE our FAITH.   When you believe that, the questions your kids have are exciting instead of scary.

When the Lord Calls the Unqualified (D&C 1 Come Follow Me)

30-day Simplify for Sanity Home and Life Organization Challenge: https://www.innerstrength.me/simplify Sometimes it's easier to just do it yourself.   Why?   Because you'll do it "right."   But what about when heaven asks you to do something you know you're not qualified to do?   I'm pretty sure that's what happened when heaven called me to be a mom.   Qualified?   No.   Made mistakes?   I can't count that high.   And then when heaven asked me to serve in my church calling?   Definitely not qualified.   Do other people know I'm not qualified?   Unless they're in a coma, probably.   So...   Why did the Lord call me to do those things anyway?    2 reasons.   Reason 1: He needs me to realize I need him. Nothing does that better than being in over your head.   Reason 2: Like a painter has his favorite brushes, Heavenly Father uses the weak things of the world to do His mighty works.   So next time your brain tells you you're messing up way too much, remind your brain that you are the paintbrush. The skill lies with the artist.   And his masterpiece, my friend, is YOU.

Your Heavenly Wish List for 2025

Simplify for Sanity Challenge Scholarship: https://www.innerstrength.me/win This year I ordered Christmas online. Scroll, click, on my doorstep. It's hard to believe it's that easy. I remember waking up at 3 or 4am on Black Friday to go stand in line and freeze to death outside a store to get a deal on Christmas gifts. This year I ordered half of the gifts from my bed. Wow. This week one question has been on my mind: What do I want from heaven this year? I knew what my kids wanted... because they talked about it... and because they wrote a list! Did you write your list? What do you truly want to become this year? What do you want to know this year? Please ask. Because Heavenly Father loves to give good gifts to his children. In this week's episode, I talk about the promise from a prophet to you and me that is ready for pickup in 2025. Time to place your order.

I think that looking under the Christmas tree and finding a gift from Heavenly Father would be the coolest thing! In this week's podcast, I talk about the gifts of God. What gifts does He actually give? Moroni talks about the gifts of God, how to get them, and the amazing reason the entire Book of Mormon was even written.

Is it Even Possible to do all the Things? (Moroni 7-9 Come Follow Me)

Newsletter: https://www.innerstrength.me/faith I can check off things on my to-do list... but there's always more to do. It feels that way with spiritual things, too. I need to call that neighbor... and spend more time with my daughter... and call my grandma... and do family history... and, and, and. It seems I always fall short. Moroni asked, "How is it possible that ye can lay hold of every good thing?" First, intent matters. Moroni says that if we do something good just to check the box- but our heart isn't in it (without real intent), it's like we didn't even do it. That tells me that our intentions matter...a lot. Step 1: Want to be good and do good. You've got that one! In this week's episode, I talk about He intends to get you the rest of the way. It would take a miracle, you say? No problem. That's kind've His thing.

When Life Isn't Going as Planned (Moroni 1-6 Come Follow Me)

Inner Strength Email Boost opt-in: https://www.innerstrength.me/faith I did not plan to stay up until 2am. I also didn't plan to be a cranky momma by 4pm the next day. 😩 But there I was. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn. Then what? Did you fail? The scriptures say that if all men had been like Moroni, the very powers of Hell would tremble and shake. Sounds like he's anything but a failure. And yet... Life took an unexpected and very hard turn for him. I imagine he felt all alone and tired and unsure what to do next. Ever been there? In this week's episode, I share the 3 things Moroni did when his life took an unexpected turn. Those same 3 things helped me go from cranky momma to back on top. I hope they help you too!

When Human Weakness Gets in Your Way (Ether 12-15 Come Follow Me)

Get a weekly email boost of strength and insight to help you love your life, live your mission, and raise kids who do the same here: https://www.innerstrength.me/faith My teenager fell out of the car when she tried to get out.   She had just had surgery- and no amount of effort was enough to steady her legs.   So,   we had to catch her.   Some days I feel like that's the story of my life.   I try to do all the right things, I give it my all, and then I just can't keep it all together.   Ever been there?   So has every prophet and wise leader who ever lived.   Why?   Because God wants you to see your weakness.   In fact, the closer you get to Him, the more clearly you will see where you are weak.   So if, today, you saw everywhere you fall short and everything you could have done better,   know this:   You're on the right path.   You're faced the right direction,   and He will lead you every step of the way.   And when no amount of effort is enough to steady your legs,   He will catch you.   He's got this.   Listen to hear what weakness really is and how it can help you feel steady and sure - when life feels anything but.

  32. 58

When it's Hard to Keep Your Head Above Water (Ether 6-11 Come Follow Me)

There are times in life when you're on top of the world. You've totally got this! And then... there are times when life is so demanding that you're barely keeping your head above water. You just start to solve one problem and find out there's three more things you need to take care of too. It can feel exhausting after day 1. and day 4 and day 344. But there is one truth, when remembered, that makes it feel safe: When the winds of life blow, they always blow towards the promised land. If the winds of life are blowing, please know they are blowing you toward God- as long as you choose to stay in the boat. And... As long as you are in the boat, there is no water that can hurt you. You're going to be okay. You're going to make it. And when you do, you will praise God for getting you there. You've got this... because HE has YOU. The Sealed Plates: What's on Them & How will we get Them? (Ether 1-5 Come Follow Me)

Ever wonder what it says in the sealed portion of the plates?   When will we get them?   They were written for us.   Moroni was commanded to copy them and to keep them- and he told us what we needed to do in order to get them.   So... no, they aren't just going to stay sealed up.   We will get them.   We're just not ready yet.   Neither was the Brother of Jared at first.   But the Lord sent confusion and chaos, trials and hard journeys, and problems to be solved   all to get him ready for the most beautiful experience of his life.   Any confusion, chaos, problems, or trials showing up in your life?   Maybe He wants to give you more.

Faith Even When (Mormon 7-9 Come Follow Me)

Moroni watched his entire civilization be destroyed. He lost everyone he loved. It wasn't that there was a lot of wickedness around him; it was that there was only wickedness. Moroni was the only person left who believed in Christ. It brought new meaning to feeling alone. Still, he didn't doubt the Lord. How did he stay so strong? While I hope we will never see what Moroni saw, we have been told our day will mirror the Book of Mormon. Thankfully, Moroni saw our day and wrote a message for us. A message to help us stay strong even when. In this week's podcast, I share what Moroni wrote specifically for us - to help us through the days ahead.

A Last Day's Message from Mormon (Mormon 1-6 Come Follow Me)

Sometimes the wisest people are the ones who have been through the most.   Mormon is no exception.   At age 10, he was called to record the eventual destruction of his entire civilization.   No thank you.   And yet, he let God prevail.   He did what he was called to do.   And he saw things so horrible he couldn't bear to write them.   But during it all... he also knew the Lord.   He spoke with Him.   And he trusted Him.   This past general conference, Elder Bednar said, "the Book of Mormon is a book about our future and the times in which we do now and will yet live."   If anyone can teach us how to navigate the last days, it's Mormon.   He's been there.   Mormon knew the record he was writing was not for anyone living in his day.   He clearly stated that the record was for us.   And then he shared what he wanted to make sure we knew.   In this week's episode, I share Mormon's wisdom for us as we walk through the days that parallelled his own.

The 3 Nephites (3 Nephi 27-4 Nephi Come Follow Me)

You're praying in your bedroom. All of the sudden, the Savior appears next to you and sits on the bed. He says, "What do you desire?"   What would you say?   The disciples in the Americas had plenty on their minds that was stressing them out.   Everyone was arguing about what the church should be called, and it was causing chaos.   Hmmm.   I know what it's like to feel stressed out by uncertainty and chaos.   The beautiful thing is that Jesus answered their question. It was an obvious answer to Him, but it was confusing to the disciples... so he fixed it.   But what happens next is beautiful.   He asked them again.   What do you desire?   Now that they weren't flustered, they could hear their hearts.   So, what about you?   If you checked off the daily worries,   what is underneath?   What do you actually desire?   Because it's very likely that what you want is good.   He wants to give you good gifts.   Even if you're afraid to ask.

5 Things we Need to do Before the Second Coming (3 Nephi 20-26 Come Follow Me)

Access more resources, videos, and classes here: https://www.innerstrength.me/free Are you ready for what will happen between now and when Christ comes again? We've been told this will be a decade never to be forgotten. I think it will be incredibly wonderful and also hard. Are you ready? Are your kids? When the Savior appeared to the people in the America's, he told them he would come again. He also taught them 5 things they needed to do to be ready. Those 5 things are doable. They also come with powerful promises and protections. And... I want every promise and protection I can get during this "never to be forgotten" decade we are about to walk through.   In this week's episode, I talk about those 5 steps that will guide us through this decade and help us see the long-awaited, glorious opportunity to live with Him when he comes again. We both need to be there. And we need to bring so many people with us. Are you in?

How to Have Faith to be Healed (3 Nephi 17-19 Come Follow Me)

How do you get the faith to be healed?   The faith to call down miracles?   I think heaven is leading me to learn this now in my life. I know an abnormally high number of people who are going through life-or-death heath challenges right now.   I have cried.   And my heart has wanted to ask for the miracles that I'm afraid might not be God's will.   Today, I asked Heavenly Father for something different:   to help me gain the kind of faith that calls down miracles and healing.   In this week's episode, I talk about the doctrine of healing and the gift to be healed.   It is a gift we can seek.   In this week's episode, I talk about the steps to gaining that gift.

God's Perfection Power (3 Nephi 12-16 Come Follow Me - Beatitudes)

Access more videos, classes, and resources here: https://www.innerstrengthparenting.com/free What is your definition of perfect?   I heard my little boy chew himself out this morning for messing up.   My heart sunk.   He's not old enough to feel "not enough," is he?   The truth is, we all feel "not enough" from the time we are young.   Why?   Because we want other people to accept us...   and we want God to accept us, too.   We try to please, impress, measure up.   Trouble is,   no matter how hard you try, it will never happen.   at least not on your own.   And that, my friend, is exactly the point.   The point is that you don't need to do it on your own.   You've heard of the beattitudes: the list Jesus gave of attributes you need to have.   You know...   meek humble merciful pure in heart peacemaker   and did we mention...   never, ever get mad at someone or think they are stupid.   Hmm.   Failed already.   I've read this so many times and felt like I would never figure it out.   But I was missing the point.   The point of Jesus' entire message is that life will be easier better more blessed if I don't do it on my own.   He never intended to tell you all the ways you're falling short.   His message is that your life will be blessed if He is a part of it.   Check out this week's podcast to see what Jesus really said in his first message to the America's after his resurrection.

Seeing Christ (3 Nephi 8-11 Come Follow Me)

Is the second coming on your calendar? It would be so awesome to know the day! I do often wonder when that day will be. What will it be like to actually see Him? To watch my kids see Him? There's a lot of attention given to the signs that will come before the second coming. It's easy to feel fearful. The people of Nephi experienced storms, earthquakes, and fire. They also felt doubt, confusion, fear, and great sadness. But... There was a divine purpose and timing to every one of those emotions. In this week's podcast, I talk about fear and sadness in a way you've probably never considered. But once you see it, you'll never see trials the same way again. In fact, once you see this side of fear and sadness, fear becomes less fearful.

Overcoming Doubt (3 Nephi 1-7 Come Follow Me)

Everyone has doubts about themselves, their abilities, other people, and yes... faith. "I was sure when I prayed, but maybe it was just my own thoughts." or "I've done what heaven asked, but the promise didn't come. Maybe..." When doubts come, it means you're human. But those doubts feel so heavy. Why do they come? How can you keep strong? How do you help someone else who is doubting? Usually we try to find a logical answer to the doubt. We tell ourselves - or the person we love - why it all makes sense. The problem? It still doesn't feel like it makes sense. Until it feels right, our heart won't be at peace. In this week's podcast, I share the 5 ways doubt creeps into our lives and the #1 way to doubt-proof yourself and those you love.

When it Feels Like No One is Listening (Samuel the Lamanite: Helaman 13-16 Come Follow Me)

Ever feel like no one is listening to you? Samuel did too. He did what God asked him to do. He said what God put into his heart. And yet- it seemed that no one cared. Although no one has shot arrows at you this week, sometimes it can still feel like you're saying things that are true and important- but nobody gets it.   But, what if things are going better than you think? What if the message IS actually sinking in? In this episode, I talk about the results of Samuel's courageous speech on the wall. The results he probably didn't know existed.

Faith to Move Your Mountains (Helaman 7-17 Come Follow Me)

I always wanted enough faith to move a mountain.   Why?   I don't know.   I didn't need a mountain to move... I just thought it would be so cool to be able to do it!   But, there are symbolic mountains in life that I really DID want to move.   I wanted sickness to go away.   I wanted people not to die.   I wanted relationships to heal.   I wanted weaknesses to disappear. I wanted people to be kind.   Those mountains were in the way of good things I really wanted.   And yet...   I couldn't move them.   My prayers were not granted, and I didn't understand why.   I figured I just didn't have near the faith I needed. So, how did Nephi have enough faith that Heavenly Father promised to do WHATEVER HE ASKED? How did he have enough faith that Heavenly Father told him mountains would move if he just said the word? How did he have enough faith to start a drought and then make it rain? And how can I have enough faith to move the mountains I need moved? It turns out Nephi probably had a whole lot of "unanswered" prayers. Times heaven said "no" when he really wanted a "yes." Times heaven said "go" when he wanted to "stay." Times heaven said "speak up" when he was terrified to say the words. But Nephi did it anyway. He trusted the Lord. And then he trusted him again. And every time he did, he came closer to TRUST being a two-way street between him and heaven. The more he trusted heaven, the easier it was to know which mountains needed moved and which he needed to climb. My friend, the Lord knows how to move your mountain. He also knows how to teach you to move it... and how to help you climb it. The key is learning trust. In this episode, I talk about the 3 steps to get there.

Joy and Miracles During Last Days [Helaman 1-6 Come Follow Me]

Free class on your brain and worry: https://innerstrengthparenting.com/freeclass My house almost burned down this week. My husband looked out the back window and saw the neighbor's barn on fire. The flames were bigger than any fire I had ever seen. Between that barn and my house stood a road and a small, dry pasture. The wind was blowing furiously in the direction of my house. I knew it could be minutes before we needed to evacuate our home. My husband ran out to turn on the sprinklers, and I started gathering photo albums and kids. Thankfully, the fire department was nothing short of heroic. Our house is safe. It was our little miracle today. We've been told some of heaven's greatest miracles will happen between now and when He comes again   Will we see the miracles? In this week's episode, I talk about a time in history when wickedness was like a giant fiery storm.   It encircled the righteous and threatened to destroy everything they held dear. And yet... they had great joy and many miracles   Why? What was the key?

Trusting God When Anxiety Comes (Come Follow Me: Alma 53-63)

Free Anxiety Class: https://www.innerstrengthparenting.com/freeclass Wish you could delete anxiety?   Anxiety is everywhere these days.   Why is it so prevalent?   Because anxiety comes when the future is unknown or unsafe.   It comes when we aren't sure what the future will look like   or when we aren't sure WE are strong enough, smart enough, good enough to do what that future will demand.   That means every time you're faced with something you haven't done before...   or something you haven't done consistently well...   your brain panics.   What if I fail?   What if I mess this up?   What if I can't cut it?   Believe it or not, even Moroni was no stranger to these feelings. Yes- Moroni. The one that could cause the powers of hell to shake.   So, my friend, if you're not a stranger to anxiety, you're also not broken.   You're in really good company.   In this week's podcast, I share what Moroni and the war chapters teach us about navigating the anxiety that is such a real part of life.

How to Beat Satan's Favorite Attacks Against YOU (Come Follow Me Alma 43-52))

Sometimes evil wins the battle. It makes me really mad sometimes. Especially when Satan gets me to doubt myself or get irritated or say things I wish I hadn't AGAIN. How does he do that? Because he's smart and cunning and a crazy-good liar. And because he knows WHERE and HOW to attack ME. He knows where I am most likely to fail. And, just like in battle, he attacks my weakest point. Ever been there? Grrr! In this week's podcast, I talk about how Satan wins a battle. More importantly, I talk about how Moroni beat Satan (or the person following his lead). It's time to take some lessons from Moroni's playbook. It's time to WIN.

When Enduring to the End is Burning you Out (Alma 36-38 Come Follow Me)

Access free class on avoiding parenting and mom burnout and exhaustion here: https://www.innerstrengthparenting.com/freeclass I remember thinking as a teenager that "enduring to end" sounding really awful. Who wants to do that? Its sounds miserable! And then I became a mom...and there was more "enduring" involved than I had bargained for. I endured not having any sleep. I endured feeling like I never measured up, was never as good as I needed to be. I endured not buying things for me so that I could take care of my family. I thought that was all part of enduring. I knew it would be more than worth it in the end. The problem? I got burnt out before the end. What then?  In this week's episode, I talk about Alma's message to his sons. Alma endured well... without getting burnt out. He has some great counsel for all of us on how to not let that light in us burn out!

How Heaven Grows Your Soul (Alma 32 Come Follow Me)

Weeds don't give up. They can grow anywhere. Sometimes they take over. There are also weeds in life. Those things that cause problems but are really hard to get rid of. Things that keep us from growing within ourselves the attributes we want to have. Things that make life harder than it seems it should be. What do you do when life gets weedy? You bring in some power and till up those weeds! Then, when the soil is ready, your seed finally has a chance. Heavenly Father is the gardener of your soul. Getting rid of weeds is not a problem for him. Thankfully, he's a lot better at gardening than I am. He doesn't even forget to water. In this week's episode, I talk about how he gardens in our life and what he intends to grow.

5 Reasons False Answers to Prayer Happen (Alma 30-31 Come, Follow Me)

Remember those cartoons where the main character had an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other? Turns out there's some truth to that. When an answer doesn't come from the angel on our shoulder (but we think it does), we can end up feeling alone and confused when our path doesn't turn out. In this episode, I talk about 5 reasons we can get a false answer to prayers - and what we can do to make sure the answers we get are actually from heaven! 😇

Why Kids Rebel and What to do About it (Come Follow Me: Alma 23-29)

Sometimes I feel rebellious.   Like when there's a rule that doesn't make sense. Why should I follow it?   Or when something isn't fair. I deserve what is mine, right?   Rebellion gets a pretty bad rap. Really, though, we all feel it at times. It's normal.   So, why does God condemn it? Because rebellion against HIM hurts us, and His job is to save us.   Yep. That's why. He can't help us if we won't let him.   How does he get us to let him? He lets us EXPERIENCE his power working INSIDE of us.   That's when we know it works. That's when we CHOOSE to let him in.   In this week's podcast episode, I talk about rebellion and how God's way of managing his rebellious children (sometimes me) can give us insight and hope as we experience flecks of rebellion (or more than that) with our own kids....no matter how wonderful they are.
