King Jesus’ wisdom allows him to save and ransom his people from their own foolishness and the death they deserve!”Notes: Rash V_____________ (vs. 24)1 Samuel 14:6Unintended C________________ (vs. 25-35)Genesis 9:4Leviticus 7:26-27“The man who did not obey God in chapter 13 and expressed no confidence in God when faced with his enemies, who devised the crazy plan to save himself by starving his troops, now sounded so concerned about the people’s act of disobedience! He tried to put it right by playing the priest, building an altar where the animals could be slaughtered and eaten properly. But there is not the slightest suggestion that he saw how he had caused the problem.” -John Woodhouse 3All A______________ (vs. 36-46)1 Samuel 8:181 Samuel 13:111 Samuel 14:29-30S______________ of Saul’s Reign (vs. 47-52)“Although we have much more to hear about Saul, there is a sense in which the essential story has now been told. Sermon 2026.05.24 (Elder Chip Bauer)

SERMON NOTES – May 24, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 14:1-23Topic: When God is for UsAttribute: Praise Christ as the Wise King and SaviorGOD’S DM: “When I am for you, you can scale walls and take on troops in the sure hope that I will again deliver you.” Notes: Psalms 18:291) The Setting- Audacity- Secrecy - Inactivity2) The Imagination of Faith - Possibility- Certainity Psalms 18:29- Loyalty- StrategyOh Sinnerman, where you gonna run to? Sinnerman, where you gonna run to?Where you gonna run to?All on that day.IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1. Jonathan understood that God can save, whether by many or few. And the purpose of God is to send Jesus to seek and to save those who are prepared to admit, I'm lost, I'm hopeless, I'm sinful, I'm stuck. And the reason some of us are not Christians is because we believe that we are powerful, we are secure, we are religious, we are good. So either we allow the truth of God's Word to diagnose our condition or we diagnose the condition for ourselves - which will not end well.2. Out what hopeless situation are you looking for God's deliverance, to see God create something out of nothing?3. How is faith informing your imagination? Where is it that God is calling to live out your faith and see His kingdom advance?4. To whom are you saying, I am with you heart and soul. Whose back do you have to help them secure what God is doing?

Instead, they got a king they followed in fear, trembling.” - Heath Thomas and JD Greear“Samuel’s departure was symbolic of the breach between himself and Saul, who was abandoned without any guidance for the defeat of the Philistines, and with the sacrificial offering only half-completed, was left to his own devices.” - Joyce BaldwinBleak S______________ (vs. 15b-23)IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) God has provided a wise, obedient, and faithful king who has saved His people from their enemies!Jesus is everything God promised in response to King Saul’s failure. Draw near, submit to, love, trust, obey, serve, and follow King Jesus with your whole heart and life! Philippians 2:5-11Hebrews 5:7-92) Faith and obedience are always the wisest choice. Do not turn aside after empty things.Turn aside from every worthless thing and pursue the Lord with your whole heart! 3) Consider what great things the Lord has done for you.Constantly fill your heart and mind with all the great things God has done for you! God had proved himself again to be ‘your God, who saves you from all your calamities and distresses’ (1 Samuel 10:19). ‘This man’ could save Israel, not by virtue of his own abilities. The Lord had anointed him and empowered him to save his people (1 Samuel 9:16 and 10:1).” -John WoodhouseKingdom R______________ (vs. 14-15)Joshua 5:9IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) The Same Story, Only Better! This story of Israel and King Saul is our story and the story of King Jesus and His Gospel, just in miniature form! I am the true King that you need and want. Notes:How can this man save us?1. The Bad News (11:1-3) John 15:18 John 15:14-152. The Good News (11:4-11) Zechariah 4:63. The Sweet Song of Salvation Because a lifetime filled with happiness Is like a street that never ends Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation And let your laughter fill the air Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation And tell the people everywhere Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation To every man and every nation Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation And let the people know that Jesus cares — Larry NormanIMPLICATION FOR LIFE RESPONSE1. Sermon 2026.04.19 (Pastor Tim Lindner)

SERMON NOTES – April 19, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 10:17-27Topic: Saul Proclaimed as King Attribute: Praise Christ as the True King! GOD’S DM: “If you try to choose your own king, you will always end up with a hilariously bad ruler over your life. Instead, embrace King Jesus!”Notes: A Prophetic A________________ (vs. 17-19)Joshua 7:14-15A Lost K____________ (vs. 20-24)“Saul’s actions, however odd, were consistent with the portrayal of Saul to this point; previously the king-designate had shut out both his servant and his uncle from any knowledge of his destiny. Saul’s vacancy at his own coronation suitably foreshadows a reign that would vacate responsibilities associated with the exercise of godly rule and perhaps suggests a lack of wisdom of those who preferred such a king to Yahweh.” -Robert Bergen“On her own, Israel will be no more successful finding her king than Saul and his servant had been in finding the donkeys… Israel cannot manage apart from Yahweh even in the simplest matters.” -Dale Ralph DavisMixed R______________ (vs. 25-27)Deuteronomy 17:14-21IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) King Saul’s weaknesses highlight the glories of King Jesus! Let this strange story remind you how much greater and more glorious King Jesus is than King Saul. Increasingly embrace and submit to Jesus as your king, regardless of how strange, different, and unexpected King Jesus and His kingdom look and feel to this world.2) Honor God’s choice of leader over you.Honor, respect, obey, submit to, and pray for the leaders God has sovereignly placed over you, trusting God to use even the worst among them to accomplish His plans and purposes in this world.

GOD’S DM: “Even though there was nothing good or kingly about Saul, I equipped and used him to accomplish My plans and purposes for the kingdom of Israel. I am the true King that you need and want. Notes:Ignore at your peril!1. Time for a change (8:1-5)2. Time for a response (8:6-9)3. Time for a re-evaluation (8:10-18) Psalm 106:154. Time for a refusal (8:19-22) 1 Samuel 3:19 Proverbs 12:15IMPLICATION FOR LIFE RESPONSE1. Trust in Christ alone as your King and Savior. What he says, obey. 2. Do not be ashamed of the gospel and all that the Bible says. It never grows old or out of date. Marry the spirit of the age and you will soon be a widower. Sermon 2026.03.22 (Pastor Tim Lindner)

SERMON NOTES – March 22, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 7:1-17Topic: Spiritual Revival in IsraelAttribute: Praise Christ as the Savior and Leader You Need!GOD’S DM: “Yes, you are a sinner unfit to stand in My presence, but if you cry out to me, repent of your sins, and commit your heart and life to Me alone, I will save you and lead you in righteousness!” Notes: Twenty Y_______ and then T_______ (vs. 1-2)1 Samuel 6:19R_____________ and R_____________ (vs. 3-9)F___________, R____________, and M__________ Peace (vs. 10-14)“All that was lost through sin in the first Ebenezer event was restored through repentance in the second!” - Robert Bergen Samuel the J________ (vs. 15-17)“This chapter has displayed the kind of leader that Israel actually needed. Their need was not for a great military hero or genius. God had demonstrated unambiguously that he could deal with their enemies without such a champion. Their need was not for a brilliant political giant who could organize the nation efficiently. Israel’s need could not be met by management abilities. Israel’s great need was a leader who would bring them back to God. They needed a leader who would lead them in righteousness. They needed a Samuel. And God gave them Samuel!” -John WoodhouseIMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) The leader we need.Jesus is the leader Israel ultimately needed. Samuel and his ministry were meant to reveal this need to Israel and ultimately point them to Jesus. This story should do the same thing for you. Jesus and His ministry are the only things you really, truly need! Follow Him! 2) The response we need.Repentance is how God’s people respond to their sin. Repent and be saved! 3) We need reminders.Take Samuel’s example. Raise your own Ebenezers to remind yourself of God’s work in your life and family, so that you do not forget and learn to trust Him in all things!

    Sermon 2026.03.15 (Pastor Tim Lindner)

SERMON NOTES – March 15, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 6:1-21Topic: The Best of Times and the Worst of TimesAttribute: Praise Christ as One Who Stands Before the LordGOD’S DM: “It should be clear by now, but you have not yet learned that I am a holy God who cannot be trifled with! No one can stand in My presence or look upon My glory without a mediator!”Notes: The Philistines’ P__________, S__________, and T_______ (vs. 1-12)The Ark’s R_________, a S__________, and a S_________ (vs. 13-21)Joshua 21:13-16Numbers 4:4 and 15 “Though this act was seemingly one of great reverence for Yahweh, it was actually a reckless one.” -Robert BergenIMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) God is infinitely holy and powerful. He will do everything necessary to be seen as glorious by the nations! All these years later, we are meant to see and believe these same truths about God, but as the Philistines and Israelites found out, this is both a wonderful and terrifying reality that must be reckoned with. 2) Only in Jesus Christ can you stand before the Lord!It is only in Christ that we can stand before the Lord and receive life and blessing from His presence, instead of death and wrath.

    Sermon 2026.03.08 (Pastor Dave McCurley)

SERMON NOTES — March 8, 2026Series: 1 Samuel: Looking on the HeartText: 1 Samuel 5:1-12Topic: God is Bigger Than You ThinkGod’s IM: I am much bigger than you think, so do not pretend that I might need your help.Notes:1. He is not a tame lion Isaiah 46:1-42. He is a severe GodIMPLICATION FOR LIFE RESPONSE1. Without the power and presence of God, the people of God are powerless. How are you relying upon the power of God in your life? Just because God does not need your help to accomplish His goals does not mean He does not want us. He does. 2. God is working behind the scenes, in the night. It will not become obvious until the morning. Wait patiently for the Lord. Just because you cannot see God at work does not mean that He is not working. He is.3. There is no refuge from this terrible God except the refuge that is found in this terrible God. Is your life hid in Christ? Christ is our only refuge and strength. It is because we are hid in Christ that we enjoy and know the blessing of the Lord Jesus.Music and word rights reserved. Don’t settle for the cheap substitute of religion that cannot save or satisfy. We were made for a relationship with God in and through Jesus Christ! He is the greatest gift and blessing God could give us.

SERMON NOTES – January 18, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 2:1-10Topic: Hannah’s PrayerAttribute: Praise Christ as King, Judge, and SaviorGOD’S DM: “All of My works are glorious and worthy of praise, but especially the works of the coming King who will bring about the ultimate exultation of My people and judgment on My enemies!”Notes: Prayer of P______________ P______________ (vs. 1-2)Exodus 15:1-2Exodus 15:11P______________ of God’s Reversals (vs. 3-8)P______________ of a King (vs. 9-10)You must catch the logic of Hannah’s prayer. It is easy to react superficially to these opening scenes in 1 Samuel: “What’s the big deal? So Hannah has a son now - that’s nice - and that rival wife Peninnah who has kids coming out her ears has to eat crow; so now things have calmed down a bit at Elkanah’s flat in Ramathaim-zophim, wherever that is.” No. This is no piddly affair - this is the manifestation of the way Yahweh rules and will bring his kingdom. Hannah’s relief is a sample of the way Yahweh works and of the way he will work when he brings his kingdom in fullness. The saving help Yahweh gave Hannah is a foretaste, a small scale-model demonstration of how Yahweh will do it when he does it in grand style. - Dale Ralph DavisIMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) Jesus Christ is the Judge and King of this world!Jesus, God’s Judge and King, is full of grace, mercy, life, and salvation! He will be exalted, and you can be exalted in Him!2) There is a great reversal coming! One day, in God’s perfect timing, Jesus will bring about a great, complete, and perfect reversal, just as He has promised! 3) Pray and Sing! The lives of God’s people should be filled with prayer and singing to our God, King, and Savior! Music and word rights reserved. CCLI License

I will come to your aid and fight for you anyway you need, anytime you ask!”Notes: “We cannot know what prayer is for until we know that life is war. Life is war. That is not all it is. But it is certainly that. Our weakness in prayer is owing largely to our neglect of this truth. Prayer is primarily a wartime walkie-talkie for the mission of the church as it advances against the powers of darkness and unbelief. It is not surprising that prayer malfunctions when we try to make it a domestic intercom to call upstairs for more comforts in the den. God has given us prayer as a wartime walkie-talkie so that we can call headquarters for everything we need as the kingdom of God advances in the world.” - John PiperFour A________ (vs. 18)Ephesians 5:18-21Romans 8:26-271 Thessalonians 5:16-18For M__________ (vs. 19-20)IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) Pray in the Spirit. But Paul changes the image. In Isaiah, God’s helmet of salvation is what he does; in Ephesians, it is what he gives… Now consider the ‘helmet of salvation’ placed on our heads by the nail pierced hands of Christ at our conversion. The helmet assures us that whatever happens we will be saved and experience victory in Christ… The helmet infuses optimism about the course of the battle in this world… The helmet also instills an irrepressible hope - a bounding hope of future salvation and glory with Christ.” -R.
