The official media channel of the Borough of Honesdale including council meetings and other public business before the municipal government.Honesdale, originally known as “Dyberry Forks,” was the terminus of the D&H Canal which ran 108 miles to Rondout, NY. It was used to carry coal from the coal fields to the market in New York City. It was laid out as a village in 1826 when the D&H Canal was created. Honesdale was named for Philip Hone, the first president of the D&H Canal Company and former Mayor of New York City. It was incorporated as a borough on January 28, 1831.

Honesdale Borough Council Regular Meeting: May 9, 2022 Mayor Derek Williams stated that reflecting on this past Mother’s Day, there were many amazing women in his life. He stated that serving on a male dominated body, such as this, that it should represent and reflect others that may not look like him. Call Meeting to Order Council President James Hamill called the regularly scheduled Borough Council meeting to order at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The in-person meeting was conducted in the second-floor meeting room of Borough Hall, 958 Main Street, Honesdale, with a virtual participation option. A roll call of Councilors indicated the following were present at Borough Hall: President James Hamill, Vice-President Jason Newbon, David Nilsen, Jared Newbon, William McAllister, and Michael Augello. Honesdale Borough Council Regular Meeting: February 28, 2022 Mayor Derek Williams read a quote regarding democracy from Mayor Vitali Klitschko of Kyiv, Ukraine, namely "Democracy cannot defend itself. It needs the will of its citizens and the commitment of everyone." Call meeting to Order. Council President James Hamill called the regular scheduled Borough Council meeting to order at 6:01 PM on Monday, February 28, 2022. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The meeting was conducted in the second-floor meeting room of Borough Hall, 958 Main Street, Honesdale, with a virtual participation option. A roll call of Councilors indicated the following were present at Borough Hall: President James Hamill, Vice-President Jason Newbon, David Nilsen, Michael Augello, James Jennings, Jared Newbon, and William McAllister. Voice vote, 7-0 Proclamation Presentation Mayor Derek Williams recognized representatives from Wayne Memorial Health System and Cottage Hose Ambulance who attended the meeting for maintaining community wellness with a proclamation on the second anniversary of the COVID-19 global pandemic with a proclamation. Mayor Williams declared February 28, 2022, "a day of sincere appreciation for health care workers, service providers, and essential job holders who have helped keep our hometown functioning and healthy under trying circumstances and as a day of remembrance for those we have lost yet hold dear in our hearts." James Pettinato, CEO, of Wayne Memorial Hospital and Fred Jackson, Executive Director, Wayne Memorial Community Centers thanked the Mayor and Council for the recognition. He introduced several hospital staff members, Dr. James Cruse, Danielle Hazimof, Lisa Champeau, and Tara Korb who were present at the meeting and who offered appreciation for the recognition. Stephen Fisch of Cottage Hose Ambulance thanked the Mayor and Honesdale Borough Council for their support and introduced the evening duty crew, Matt and Sarah, who accompanied him to the ceremony. Honesdale Borough Council Meeting - 1/3/22
Welcoming a new year in Honesdale Borough and a renewed effort to work together to serve the best interests of the community, newly-sworn Mayor Derek Williams oversaw the organization of Honesdale Borough Council Monday evening which takes place every two years. “Participating in community affairs is a big deal and makes a huge difference,” stated Mayor Williams addressing both those in attendance and the council. “There are many ways to participate. Representing, working for, engaging in, and listening to borough business are absolutely vital forces that make our neighborhoods more resilient.” Council has two newcomers* and two returning members beginning four-year terms in addition to Mayor Williams. Jim Hamill* Jason Newbon William McAllister David Nilsen* Council’s first order of business was to appoint president, vice president and president pro temp. Hamill, Jason Newbon and McAllister were nominated for the posts respectively and were subsequently elected to serve in those roles. Further business conducted included the following: Richard Henry was reappointed as Borough Solicitor for 2022, council voted to meet the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. except in January when meetings are scheduled at the same time on the 17th and 31st, council voted with a tiebreak from Mayor Williams to reopen the 2022 budget which must be adopted by February 15th, President Hamill appointed Jared Newbon as chairperson of the Finance committee and McAllister as vice-chair while holding off on making further committee appointments until the next meeting, council made several commission appointments council granted permission to keep the Richard “Dick” Smith Memorial Star on Irving Cliff lit at night through the month of February after a request from Greater Honesdale Partnership to honor health care workers on the frontline of the pandemic Borough residents can find out more information about scheduled meetings, openings for various boards and commissions and more at HonesdaleBorough.com.
