Here’s a Cookie - How Sephora’s Employee Recognition Efforts Fell Short After Record Sales

Authentic employee recognition is what keeps a positive company culture alive. It's not just about saying "good job" but really meaning it, showing that you see and appreciate their hard work. This kind of recognition builds trust, bonds teams tighter, and keeps folks motivated to bring their A-game. Plus, it's a win-win – happier employees stick around longer and keep crushing it, which spells success for the whole companyThat’s why it’s shocking and disheartening when leaders get it wrong. Case in point: Sephora North America hit $10 billion in sales recently and sent out stale cookies to their employees instead of recognizing them in a meaningful way.So where did Sephora go wrong? This episode is about how Sephora North America’s leaders missed the mark with their employee recognition program and what leaders like you can do to avoid the same pitfalls. Watch this video and get the latest developments in human resources management.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________About Turning The Corner HRThe world of work is more complicated than ever, and traditional HR has struggled to keep pace. Teaching People To Have a Job

I know you were a pain in the butt to manage when you were 22. We all were.  I have a somewhat controversial take on young people entering the workplace. It’s time to stop complaining about the younger generation and get real about our responsibilities as leaders. We have to teach people how to have a job, just like we were.  At one time in our lives, we were the new people in the workplace. We were the ones who needed to be taught how to have a job and be productive members of an organization. For example, at 22, I was new to IBM and just entering the workforce when I had the audacity to send the CEO an email with my thoughts on the strategy! Thankfully, my manager handled the situation with grace and gave me a chance, and I ended up having a long career with IBM.My point is that instead of complaining, let’s lean into our leadership skills and embrace the young professionals who have skills, ideas, and gifts to contribute. As Founders and CEOs, we can’t thrive in the People Revolution without them. Watch or listen for a few minutes to get some more ideas on this topic. //WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________About Turning The Corner HRThe world of work is more complicated than ever, and traditional HR has struggled to keep pace. Fair Pay, Happy Team: Crafting Effective Compensation Plans

Compensation plans are like the rulebook for how businesses distribute pay to their employees. Compensation plans cover everything from your basic salary to bonuses, perks, and benefits that make a job more than just a paycheck. Think of them as the playbook for keeping everyone happy and paid fairly. They're not just about following the law and avoiding messy legal battles over pay; they're also about showing employees they're valued and keeping them motivated to do their best work. When folks feel like they're getting a fair shake, they're more likely to stick around, give their all, and even spread the good word about your company. Plus, throwing in some performance-based incentives can really light a fire, pushing the whole team to feel more motivated. In this episode, Kendra shares how you will be able to:Understand the importance of compensation strategy for business success.Discover the importance of equal pay for your workforce.Learn effective ways to manage compensation gaps in your organization.Gain insights on how to avoid discrimination lawsuits to protect your business.Explore the benefits of conducting fair pay studies for a motivated workforce.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________About Turning The Corner HRThe world of work is more complicated than ever, and traditional HR has struggled to keep pace. Retaining Your Team Through the Generations - an Interview with Karen Norheim

Too many leaders just accept high turnover as a normal part of doing business. At Turning the Corner, we will argue until we’re exhausted that this is unacceptable. All turnover is expensive, and we need to make it as low as possible as owners and as business leaders. Our guest on this episode has every reason to have a high turnover rate, as she's in a tough industry. Yet she maintains a less than 5% employee turnover and has even grown her staff by 25% over the last year.Karen Norheim is the President and CEO of American Crane & Equipment Corporation, a manufacturer of overhead cranes and hoists. They even provide equipment to NASA to lift spacecraft! The work can be dirty, dangerous, and backbreaking, yet their turnover is almost nothing. We're going to find out how she's made this possible. In this episode, we had a great conversation about how she:Cultivated a strong company culture for success (and you can, too, no matter the industry.)Developed grit to overcome challenges and thrive with her teamEmbraced transparency and communication for a thriving workplace when new leadership takes over.Connected the work to a larger purpose for motivation and fulfillment. You will also hear Karen’s inspiring story and lessons learned from taking over the family business that were passed down to her by her father.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________About Turning The Corner HRThe world of work is more complicated than ever, and traditional HR has struggled to keep pace. Onboarding for Long-Term Success

If your company is growing and you’re recruiting new talent, it is imperative that you have a solid new hire onboarding strategy. Effective onboarding of new employees is crucial for the long-term success of your company. A well-structured onboarding process sets the tone for a positive work environment and fosters a sense of belonging. When new hires feel welcomed and supported from the beginning, they are more likely to integrate seamlessly into the company culture. This integration is essential for building a cohesive team that collaborates efficiently and shares common values and goals. A comprehensive onboarding program ensures that employees understand their job, roles, responsibilities, and the company's mission and values. This clarity not only boosts individual performance but also aligns the new hire with the organization's overarching objectives. As a Founder or CEO, this is your opportunity to lean in and get the new employee set on the right path.Onboarding also plays a pivotal role in talent retention. When employees receive proper guidance and training during their initial days, they are more likely to feel engaged and committed to their roles. This positive experience reduces the likelihood of turnover, saving you time and resources invested in recruitment. So, if you have ever struggled with employee turnover and underperforming team members like most leaders do at some point in their careers, you may want to skip the standardized orientation program. There is a better way to ensure employee retention and job performance! In this episode, you will be able to:Understand the relationship between recruiting and onboarding.Discover the crucial differences between onboarding and orientation for better employee integration.Uncover the key to providing effective feedback, training and support during the onboarding process.Learn how managers play a pivotal role in coaching new employees to success.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/

Leading Through Chaos - An Interview with Yi Yang

Leading a company and trying to build an amazing culture in the midst of challenges? It can often seem like an impossible task. And guess what advice some of us get when things get tough? "Just crank up the productivity, forget about how your team's doing." Seriously? Turns out, that kind of one-track thinking just leads to disengaged and burnt-out folks on your team. And trust me, that's a recipe for disaster – less work getting done and people jumping ship left and right. But here's the real deal: we've got to see beyond this tunnel vision. Ignoring what your team really needs is a dead-end road. Especially in wild times, leaders need to see that how your team feels and how well your company does are joined at the hip. It's all about putting a culture in place that's got your team's back, not just professionally but personally too. When leaders wrap their heads around this, magic happens. You end up with a team that not only survives the chaos but comes out on the other side stronger, more into their work, and totally committed to crushing those shared goals. In this episode, you will hear from Yi Yang. Yi is Managing Principal at Summit Engineering, Inc., which serves wineries and other projects in California. He’s got an interesting perspective on leading through chaos, having come to the US at age 14 and battling imposter syndrome. Now, he’s a success and knows that he doesn’t have to be like everyone else in order to be accepted. In fact, his differences are his strengths as a leader, especially when times are tough. In this episode, you will:Discover effective strategies for leading through challenges from a “Best Place to Work” award winner.Learn how to cultivate a thriving company culture that prioritizes employee well-being.Navigate and adapt to the constantly changing HR needs like work from home and flexible work with confidence.Hear how Yi makes work fun for employees and pick up some ideas you can implement.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________

    Why Employees Are Unionizing

You may have noticed in the media lately that there is a lot of unionization, as well as threats to unionize and even regulation that is being forced upon businesses. Starbucks and Amazon are two companies in the headlines recently for employee unionization in response to what they perceive as unfair working conditions. In 2022, more than 16 million workers in the United States were represented by a union—an increase of 200,000 from 2021 (according to the Economic Policy Institute)Why is this massive increase happening? Well, it really comes back around to the things we talk about all the time, which is the People Revolution, and that people are no longer going to tolerate working for companies that do not treat them well. If they feel trapped in a job, it's going to force them to actually try to do what they can to make the conditions better. Oftentimes when companies are unionizing or threatening unionization, it's because of these reasons. In this episode, you will be able to:understand the impact of unionization and labor dynamics on business success.recognize the consequences of unfair treatment of workers in the workplace.discover the importance of addressing short notice scheduling for a better work-life balance.learn how inadequate compensation and stressful conditions affect employee satisfaction.Tune in to learn more about the 2024 Union Boon and what you can do to ensure your employees are happy.//WHEN YOU’RE READY, HERE’S HOW WE CAN HELP YOU//TAKE THE FREE 5-MINUTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ASSESSMENThttps://turningthecornerHR.com/quizSCHEDULE A CALL WITH A HUMAN RESOURCES CONSULTANThttps://turningthecornerHR.comLISTEN TO OUR PODCASTApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-i-turned-the-corner/id1637875430Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2S4sGuOSeXWXIKY7zMW1p5iHeart Radio:https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-how-i-turned-the-corner-100448118/HIRE KENDRA AS A CONSULTANT OR KEYNOTE SPEAKERhttps://kendraprospero.com/__________Say hello on social:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18USlHyF1MEruK2tO3fdFQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TurningTheCornerHRInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/turning_the_corner/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/turning-the-corner/__________About Turning The Corner HRThe world of work is more complicated than ever, and traditional HR has struggled to keep pace.
