I graduated with my Master's of Public Administration from UMKC. I have spent the past thirteen years building a career helping disabilities in a variety of capacities. I started out as a direct support professional (in layman’s terms: paid caregiver), supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently in their homes to put myself through undergrad.Shortly after I started doing that, I also joined the ranks of millions of Americans who have served with AmeriCorps. This national service program supports many vital social services and community programs across the country. During my AmeriCorps service, I started a youth program for underserved Latino youth with disabilities with the goal of building social and independent living skills, increasing community integration, and volunteering at a local Latino-serving community organization. The program is still there, ten years later. After I earned my bachelor's, I had to get a ‘real job.’ I spent a year as a QDDP, a supervisor over the DSPs who work in people’s homes. I really loved that job but only stayed there for one year, when I received an offer, I could not refuse to go to work at a department of my alma mater which is a statewide, federally supported powerhouse of research and training geared towards improving the social status, civil rights, and quality of life of people with disabilities. My life is much different now than I would have ever dreamed before I took on this role. Now, my life revolves around staying employed while maintaining my caregiving responsibilities. Through all of these changes and experiences, I have learned a lot, and I want to share it with you. I hope you will join me as I continue on my adventures in taking care of my grandma, and we can learn something from each other along the way.______________________________________________________________Contact Kim Hegwood- Elder Law AttorneyWebsite: https://www.yourlegacylegalcare.com/Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/YourLegacyLegalCareLinkedIn- https://www.linkedin.com/company/yourlegacylegalcare YouTube- https://www.youtube.com/@YourLegacyLegalCareInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourlegacylegalcare/

Stretch Your Retirement Dollars While Staying in Your Home

In this episode of Life Happens, host Kim Hegwood sits down with Michael Ritchie to discuss an important financial tool for retirees: reverse mortgages. Michael begins by breaking down what a reverse mortgage is in simple, easy-to-understand terms and addresses the misconceptions that often give them a bad reputation. Together, they explore scenarios where a reverse mortgage can be a smart option for seniors looking to stretch their retirement dollars while staying in their home. Michael explains what happens to the property when the homeowner passes away or decides to move into assisted living, including how heirs are affected and whether they lose the property. Listeners will also learn about the flexibility of reverse mortgages, including the possibility of refinancing if circumstances change. If you’re curious about how a reverse mortgage could help you or a loved one achieve financial stability in retirement, this episode provides the clarity you need. Don’t miss this informative conversation about making the most of your golden years while staying in the comfort of your home. Contact Michael: Phone: (713) 553-3047 Email: [email protected] Website: www.ReverseLoansTX.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/mritchieloans LinkedIn: www.linkedin/in/michaelrritchie/ About Michael: Mike Ritchie was born into an extended family of Texas natives and raised in Houston following his father’s service in the Air Force. His parents were strong role models—loving, hard-working, and deeply committed to serving their community through church leadership. Though the family was financially stable, Mike and his siblings were taught the importance of self-sufficiency, working through high school, and becoming independent soon after. He enjoyed a well-rounded childhood filled with friends and sports, but his greatest passion was surfing, often traveling to the West Coast to catch waves. Despite balancing work, marriage, and fatherhood—with a second daughter on the way—he graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in chemical engineering. Mike spent decades in the oil and gas industry, advancing to leadership roles on major onshore and offshore projects. His expertise was sought by companies like ExxonMobil, especially on large-scale international projects. After retiring in 2015, he transitioned into real estate, working alongside one of his daughters to pursue their shared passion for the industry. This shift sparked his interest in helping clients make sound financial decisions, particularly around reverse mortgages. Today, as a Mortgage Loan Originator, Registered Social Security Analyst, FINRA-registered Investment Advisor Representative, and licensed life and health agent, he is dedicated to providing retirees with clear, honest guidance to ensure their long-term financial security. _____________________________________________________________________ Contact Kim Hegwood – Elder Law Attorney Website: https://yourlegacylegalcare.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/YourLegacyLegalCare LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/yourlegacylegalcare Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourlegacylegalcare FREE Books on Dementia Care: https://yourlegacylegalcare.com/books ➡️ Take our 5-minute “Trust the Future” quiz to discover if your independence, wealth, and legacy are truly guaranteed: https://your-legacy-legal-care.involve.me/trust-the-future ⬅️ Your Legacy Legal Care™ 1150 Clear Lake City Blvd., Suite 100, Houston, TX 77062 (281) 218-0880 #reversemortgage #realestate #estateplanning #longtermcare #elderlaw #retirement
