Jennie Grace grew up in the UK foster care system. She livedin an area of 742 square miles and had 100 children's homes. She wasphotographed and placed on a "menu" to be sold into an organizedcrime world of sex trafficking and SRA. Picked up by taxis and drugged atnight, she remembers being driven around England and the places she was taken.The police refused to take her seriously. Merita Atherly Engen is from a family of SRA, although she herself was not a victim of the SRA. She has released her first book about her story, documenting how the silence enforced on them all seriously affected her life. "Heartache of Promise" is a well-written book that shows the pain and abuse Merita suffered and how the fallout of the toxic family system affected her life and the choices she made along the way. Her next book will document her sister, who suffered SRA. She calls this "a soft approach to a hard topic." The code of silence enforced in her family is quite fascinating in how she explains it in this book. Through it, she talks about the issues and shame that silence generates. SRA produces secondhand trauma, which we don't often talk about. Merita documents this very well in "Heartache of Promise." I found this a very interesting read and cannot wait for her next book. Sharon grew up in what can only be described as a life of trauma. Her mother didn’t want her. Her father was distant. She grew up without love and filled with shame. She began drinking at thirteen to numb the feelings she couldn’t begin to describe. Kadaya packed up two outfits for a two-week seminar to figure out the SRA flashbacks she was having, only to be served with divorce papers that included no contact with her young children. When the police showed up at Anita’s door to tell her she was a survivor of abuse by a priest, she had no memory of it. She also had no memory of the school where it took place. She also couldn’t remember the home she grew up in. These were more pieces of the puzzle in Anita’s life that didn’t go together and made no sense. Her sister gave her a few sentencefragments that left hints of shared abuse, but a wall was placed where she could not pursue that further. Jessica grew up in a “normal Baptist family.” She was aware of the dangerous, toxic family system she grew up in, which also adopted many of their foster children. But her childhood was a trick. This was also a family of generational occultic practices. The family system came down hard on Jessica when the flashbacks started, and she needed to be silenced.  Jessica drifted between enforcing boundarieswith her family and allowing them back in. Each time, she lost her peace of mind and had to fight to regain it. The incident with her dad showing her theelectronic box that he had used to electrocute her into dissociative parts finally showed her that she couldn’t chance being around any of her family again. The after-effects of trauma leave the survivor with the feeling of being stuck in any current event that triggers feelings of pain or suffering. This makes sense with the past horrors of extreme abuse that went on for years with no resolution. One ritual seemed to go on forever. Multiply that by dozens or hundreds of rituals, and you get the idea that they would never end. The safe, adult survivor is still going to feel stuck in the present. Kardia Joi presents us with fascinating ideas that we need to think through to acknowledge this state of being, so we can begin the process of breaking free to explore choice and freedom. Adult survivors of SRA have layers of mind control programming that lead them into a life of passivity. They must be passive to themselves to protect their family and the group of origin to grow up (that's their job), and as adults, they internalize that job as it comes through in many other areas of life that get justified as necessary. They may find themselves playacting to look a certain way to people, blocking off feelings to keep others from truly knowing them or knowing themselves, refusing to protect themselves by having no boundaries, a refusal of self compassion, or holding onto dissociation as a coping mechanism when instead they could choose dealing with situations to get out. Instead of taking self on to cope, learn, and grow, the survivor gets stuck due to internalizing the original programming. The original purpose of the programming was to protect the family at all costs, and this lie continues with the need to protect something, as the survivor continues to fill in the blank with endless reasons.
