S3E12: Blooming Again - An Interview with Chelsea Simpson
On Glitter, Grit, and Growth, we believe that “Fear should be acknowledged but shouldn’t stop you from doing epic sh!t.” Sometimes, that looks like leaving an abusive relationship to rebuild your life, brick by brick. Other times, it’s leaving a stable but unfulfilling job to pursue your passion. On this episode, Shelley and Jill get gritty with author, speaker, and survivor, Chelsea Simpson, who faced her fears, freed herself (and her daughters) from generational trauma, and now inspires the next generation of female leaders to live “like poppies do.”This podcast is for you if you believe that:● Embracing a growth mindset and being brave enough to suck at something new is a must.● Fear should be acknowledged but shouldn’t stop you from doing epic shit!● It should be a “No” unless it’s a “Hell Yes!”● There’s more than enough for everyone.● Your energy will tell you where to go next. S3E8: Taboo Talk - An Interview with Rene Huey-Lipton
Before becoming invisible in the advertising world, Rene Huey-Lipton built global brands, worked on presidential campaigns, and collected Gold Effies and Gold Lions. A strategist, speaker, and arch nemesis to bullshit, Rene wrote My Authentic Voice after doing the work herself, to help other women stop performing and start showing up as themselves. She founded The Women's Economy — a movement built on one idea: you can't control a woman who controls her own money. And she's currently in pre-seed on Stopapp, a proximity-based safety app for women, because apparently she needed another way to be inconvenient to the status quo. Luckily for us, she agreed to bring her “dangerous voice” to this episode of Glitter, Grit, and Growth. This podcast is for you if you believe that:● Embracing a growth mindset and being brave enough to suck at something new is a must.● Fear should be acknowledged but shouldn’t stop you from doing epic shit!● It should be a “No” unless it’s a “Hell Yes!”● There’s more than enough for everyone.● Your energy will tell you where to go next. S1E21: Reframing Imposter Syndrome
Have you ever had that nagging voice in your head telling you that you aren’t good enough or that you don’t belong? Most women have. In Episode 21, Shelley and Jill talk about a topic that they’ve touched on in previous episodes, but felt it was worthy of its own time to dig in even deeper – imposter syndrome. In this episode they’ll talk about what it is, why it affects so many of us, and how we can combat it. This podcast is for you if you believe that: • Embracing a growth mindset and being brave enough to suck at something new is a must. • Fear should be acknowledged but shouldn’t stop you from doing epic shit! • It should be a “No” unless it’s a “Hell Yes!” • There’s more than enough for everyone. • Your energy will tell you where to go next. Listen and trust the process. • People are so much more than titles and the boxes others put them in. The role of comparison and social media in exacerbating imposter feelings. How past experiences (e.g., childhood, professional environments) contribute to these beliefs. Recognize that imposter thoughts are normal. Talk about it. Share with trusted friends, co-workers, or mentors to gain perspective. Reframe your thinking. Replace “I’m not good enough” with evidence-based affirmations. Celebrate achievements. Practice recognizing and internalizing your successes. Take action despite fear. S1E19: Nervous but Networking - Tips for Making Authentic Connections
In Episode 19, Shelley and Jill discuss the importance of networking and making meaningful connections in both personal and professional growth, share some of their own experiences, and provide some actionable tips to help you improve your own networking skills. The top takeaways from this episode for successful networking are: Do your research beforehand but be open to connections you didn’t expect. Take some time to research who will be at the event. But sometimes the best connections are those you didn’t plan on making, so stay open to those. Listen more than you talk. Think about what you can give, not just receive every time you walk into a room. Focus on listening to others actively, asking open-ended questions, and showing genuine interest in their experiences and challenges. Follow Up and Build Connections. The value of networking doesn’t end when the event is over – it’s just getting started! Send personalized messages to the people you meet, connect on LinkedIn, or even set up a coffee meeting to continue the conversation.
