Episode 88: Top 10 Capcom Games

We'll be taking an extended break from new episodes and we wanted our last to be a special one. Capcom has been one of the best publishers/developers for almost four decades and they've created some of the most iconic and timeless games. This week, Deucy and I share our favorites and countdown our Top 10 Capcom Games. I cover a little bit of Capcom's history and formation before we get to our honorable mentions and our individual Top 10's. Don't forget to send us YOUR favorite Capcom games!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 87: Indiana Jones

Vito, @8bitbarrister, joins me this week in his long requested episode to revisit the movies and games of Indiana Jones! Indy's first adventure in gaming was way back in 1982 with Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600 and we're uncovering the history and chronicling some of his greatest, and in some cases, worst journeys. An archaeological aural tour wouldn't be complete if we didn't talk about the films either, so we dive into the history of the series and revisit most of the games that tried to adapt those stories. We cover most of the games across each generation including 2024's truly incredible Indiana Jones and the Great Circle by the immensely talented team at MachineGames.    Find Vito on Instagram @8BitBarrister Email us: [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 86: Duke Nukem 3D

Come get some! This week we're hailing to the king and uncovering the history and impact of 1996's Duke Nukem 3D. Duke originally started with a couple of side-scrolling platform shooters and once Apogee saw DOOM in 1993, they realized it was time to bring him into the world of 3D. From there, they renamed themselves 3D Realms and eventually released one of the earliest examples of an immersive first-person shooter based on familiar real world locations. We'll also talk about how Duke's signature personality came to be and how it's just as important to the game as its interactive and expansive levels.    0:00 - 27:00: Catch up and what we've been playing 27:28: Duke Nukem 3D   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 85: The Launch of the NES

For episode 85 we're taking you all the way back to 1985 and uncovering the story of the launch of the NES! As one of the greatest and most influential systems of all time, Nintendo's first home console revitalized an industry that almost entirely collapsed on itself in the early 80s. This week, we're chronicling everything that led up to the launch of the NES including Atari's rise to console dominance and the crash that ultimately impacted how Nintendo positioned its system as an entertainment system the whole family can enjoy.    Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 84: Die Hard (with Vito)

This week, Vito (@8BitBarrister on Instagram) joins me in revisiting the original Die Hard trilogy of movies and chronicling many of the games that have been adapted from the franchise. Die Hard is among the most iconic action movies ever made and spawned a surprising amount of games beginning with the NES in 1992, a pair of iconic 32-bit releases with Die Hard Arcade and Die Hard Trilogy, and up to a disastrous and troubled Gamecube release in Die Hard: Vendetta. This series is one of our favorites so come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs and talk about the history of Die Hard games!     Email us:  [email protected] Instagram:  @LegionGamingPodcast @8BitBarrister

    Episode 83: Super Mario RPG

In 1996, Square and Nintendo decided to collaborate and create one of the Super Nintendo's last great games. Super Mario RPG masterfully weaved the action-platforming Mario was known for with Square's incredible JRPG gameplay. The result was one of the more interactive RPGs that broken the static conventions of the genre and introduced a battle system that had much broader appeal than anything Square had done with the iconic Final Fantasy series. For its 30th anniversary,  Deucy and I revisit the story of how Super Mario RPG came to be and dive into its faithful remake.    Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 82: The Best 16-bit Games (with Mike and Randy)

This week we've invited our friends Mike and Randy to count down our Top Five Favorite 16-bit Games EVER! Narrowing down five of the best games and five honorable mentions wasn't easy from an era that defined timeless classics. Sega and Nintendo's fierce console war saw both systems release some of the most influential games of all time. Their lasting impact has inspired countless modern games and a thriving retro community. We have a wide variety of games in our respective lists that also reflect our tastes and personalities. Check out our episode and let us know what you think!   Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 81: Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil: Requiem has just released and today we're revisiting one of the best games ever made to celebrate the ninth installment of one of our favorite series. Resident Evil 4 was a major turning point for RE and made a huge impact across gaming when it released on the Gamecube in 2005.  We're chronicling the six years it took to develop and the four different versions that existed before RE creator Shinji Mikami took the director's chair to complete Resident Evil 4's mission to reinvent the series. With this reinvention came a new story starring Leon with no ties to Umbrella, and controversially, a new focus on action-oriented gameplay over the survival-horror terror that defined Resident Evil. We cover a lot including RE4's pre-history and the  'Capcom Five', so enjoy this episode before you once again visit Raccoon City in Requiem.   Send us email:  [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 80: GameBoy Advance

The GameBoy Advance is turning 25 later this year and we wanted to revisit Nintendo's iconic portable gaming successor to talk about its biggest games and hidden gems. The original GameBoy had one of the longest lifespans of any console and helped Nintendo dominate portable gaming for multiple generations. The GBA finally released 12 years after its predecessor and was an instant hit thanks to its strong game library and because it was essentially a portable SNES with even more 3D capabilities. I take you through its inception in the mid-90s as "Project Atlantis" and it's much-anticipated launch before Deucy and I revisit the GBA's most significant games and some of our favorite hidden gems.    Join us in two weeks with our new episode covering Resident Evil 4!   Want to suggest an episode or send us mail?  Email: [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPod

    Episode 79: Our Top 10 First-Person Shooters

This week's episode is a listener request! DilutedThought on Instagram sent a message and shared his Top 10 First-Person Shooters EVER and asked that we do an entire episode talking about Our Top 10 First Person-Shooters. FPS games have been among the most-played and top-selling genres over the last 30 years and this list was insanely difficult with such a broad topic. We, of course, have a lengthy list of games we have as honorable mentions that we had to talk through before we get to our individual Top 10's. Let us know what we missed or what is on YOUR list by emailing us or finding us on Instagram. Episode 78: 35 Years of Sonic on the Genesis (with Juan)

It might be shocking to hear, but Sonic the Hedgehog was released 35 years ago this year! The iconic blue blur's debut did the impossible when it pushed Sega to unbelievable heights and toppled Nintendo as the console market leader in the early 90's. I'll take you through where Sega and Nintendo were  between the Genesis' 1989 launch and Sonic's Summer 1991 release. We're covering the development and history of the original trilogy (& Knuckles) and Sonic CD so check it out and let us know what you think!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 77: 1995 Year in Review

Deucy and I are going back to the future this week when we revisit gaming in 1995! Sega and Nintendo are locked in a heated console war as the 8-bit NES fades away and both 32-bit consoles, the Saturn and Playstation, are on the horizon. We thought we'd take a retrospective look at some of the big games that released in 1995 and a deeper examination of the generational transition to 3D gaming. Fighting games were everywhere and we talk about how Mortal Kombat 3 was one of the most anticipated sequels ever and how it was everywhere (almost literally). The Virtual Boy, Donkey Kong Country 2, home ports of DOOM, Comix Zone, Chrono Trigger, and many, many other iconic games all released in an already packed year.    Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 76: The Terminator and Terminator 2D: No Fate (with 8BitBarrister Vito)

Terminator 2D: No Fate released recently and it's really incredible. I wanted to give my impressions and I invited Vito, the 8BitBarrister, to join me as we talk through many of the 8 and 16-bit Terminator games that came out in the 90's. We quickly revisit the first two iconic movies and have a loose discussion on some of the games that were released on the NES, SNES, Genesis and Sega CD. No Fate actually takes some of the failed ideas from those games and reimagined them in a way we could've only dreamed of in 1992. Bare with us with any audio quality issues, we tried a different recording setup with this episode. We were going to release a 1995 Year in Review (coming at a later date), but Deucy got sick and Vito was awesome enough to step in last minute to talk about The Terminator.    Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPod

Episode 75: 2025 Game of the Year (with Vito @8BitBarrister)

It's already that time of the year again! We've invited our good friend Vito to talk about our favorites games that we played in 2025. We thought 2023 was a significant year for releases and it seemed as though there was a great new game coming out almost every week this year. Absolum, Hades II, Ghost of Yotei, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 were among the insane slate of incredible games we got to experience this year. We also share our disappointments for the year, and of course, honorable mentions before we get to our individual Top 10.  Don't forget to tell us what YOUR favorite games you played this year by emailing us or finding us on Instagram!   Email:  [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 74: Top 10 Best Sports Games

This week we're taking on the wild world of sports and counting down our Top 10 Sports Games ever! We've each put together a list of our favorites and revisit what made each game so good. Our lists are pretty varied since I don't watch sports but it makes this episode perfect for the non-sports or sports-loving gamer. Let us know what your favorites are at [email protected] or find us in Instagram @LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 73: Launch Games

This week's episode is a chronology of our favorite console launch games. You only get one chance to make a first impression and a launch lineup can sometimes make or break a system's chances at success. The initial offering of games have the heavy task of appealing to a wider audience in an attempt to be THE reason you're picking up an expensive new console.  Deucy and I put together some of our favorite hits and misses from everything from the Atari 2600 to PS5. It's a looser discussion, but it's also an interesting examination of how console makers would respond to the constantly shifting game industry to have the biggest launch ever.      Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 72: Resident Evil 2 (The Halloween Bonus Spectacular)

We covered the original Resident Evil and its remake last year and we're continuing tradition this week with Resident Evil 2! The highly anticipated sequel finally released in January 1998 after numerous delays that included restarting the project from scratch. Resident Evil 2 would kick off what is widely regarded as one of the greatest years in gaming that included Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, and StarCraft just to name a few. RE2 set a new benchmark for sequels and made a lasting impact for anyone willing to explore the zombie infested streets of Racoon City. Deucy and I revisit what was originally planned for Resident Evil 1.5 before a series of doubts led Capcom to scrap the entire project and redesign the game. We'll also get into the remake and how it successfully reimagined the horrors of the original that left us dying to experience the nightmare all over again.    Our next episode releases on 11/4 and it all about the Best Launch Games   Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 71: Devil May Cry

We're continuing our month of horror this week with Devil May Cry! What was supposed to have been Resident Evil 4 ended up evolving into one of Capcom's best-selling franchises that spawned four sequels and a divisive reboot. We're revisiting the iconic 2001 original and its controversial, but definitely over-criticized, 2013 reboot and talk everything that led to the creation of Dante and the gothic demon hunting world that's enchanted us for over two decades. I've played DmC: Devil May Cry a ton, but you'll get a SSS-mokin fresh take as Deucy shares his experience playing the definitive edition for the first time.  Both games have a lot to talk about so pull the trigger and press play!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 70: Dead Space

October is already here and we're kicking off our month of horror with the 2008 classic Dead Space! Just short of it's 18th anniversary on October 13th,  Deucy and I dissect the survival horror classic that proudly replicated its Alien and Event Horizon influences to create an unforgettable sci-fi horror experience that's best described as "Resident Evil in space." We also cover the amazing 2023 Dead Space Remake and how it manages to make everything that happened on the USG Ishimura even more terrifying to explore while retaining the immersion and atmosphere that was so strong in the original.    0:00 - Intro and What We've Been playing 29:10 - Dead Space    Join us again in two weeks when we cover the Devil May Cry series and you can look forward to this year's special Halloween bonus episode on October 31st covering Resident Evil 2!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast BlueSky: LegionGamingPod.bsky.social

Episode 69: 30 Years of Batman Forever (with Vito)

Riddle me this, riddle me that, who's celebrating 30 years of the big, black bat? This week, we once again invited our friend Vito to talk about the 30th anniversary of Batman Forever and all of the tie-in games. This our Bat-mania of that was larger than Batman '89.  The movie was released in June 1995 and we revisit its history and everything that led to Warner Bros. giving directing duties to Joel Schumacher after the financial failure of Batman Returns. Forever’s drastic change in tone was obvious and was an edict by WB  to make Batman more appealing to a younger audience and that's exactly what it did despite the campy feel that was divisive among critics and fans.   And with Batman Forever came tie-in games.. we revisit all four versions that were released on Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and GameBoy and a game most people have never played or heard of - Batman Forever: The Arcade Game for the PS1 and Saturn. You don't need much of Batman's detective skills to uncover that the original console versions were terrible but you might be surprised about the arcade game! Batman Forever and its games hold you, thrill you, kiss you, and ultimately kill you so join us as we dive into Gotham once more.      Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPod

Episode 68: Crash Bandicoot - The Mascot Masterpiece

Our 'Reboots, Remakes, and Remasters' episode gave us the itch to revisit the Crash Bandicoot series this week. Crash was heavily influenced by games like Donkey Kong Country and Naughty Dog's gorgeous, vibrant, and expressive platformer gave the Playstation the mascot it was missing. Deucy and I cover the core four games (including  the excellent Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time) and CTR: Crash Team Racing including the remaster of the first three games Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.    Email us:  [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 67: Reboots, Remakes, and Remasters

This is a huge week for game releases, especially for two in particular: Gears of War: Reloaded and the long awaited remake Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater! With that, we wanted to talk about some of our favorite reboots, remakes, and remasters and what all of them actually mean. We cover some of the earlier 8-bit and 64-bit era remasters/remakes and revisit how the Resident Evil Remake would become the new influential benchmark how to transform an old experience. Since then, it seems there's new remasters/remakes/reboots every single week. Episode 66: The Best Day Ever - Metroid: Fusion and Metroid: Prime

We've slowly been going through the Metroid series and today we have another episode revisiting the 2002 classics in Metroid: Fusion and Metroid: Prime. Both games were leased on the same day in 2002 which probably made it the greatest day ever if you're a Metroid fan. We cover the history and development of both games (including how pissed people were back then about Prime being a first person game) and revisit both games and talk about their influence and impact over the last 23 years. These are two of the best games in the Metroid series and made for a really great episode. See you next mission!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPod

Episode 65: Twisted Metal (with Bob)

This week is all about high octane carnage as we dive into the entire Twisted Metal series! This series was really special for my brother and I so we invited him to revisit each of the games and how a simple idea of cars and rockets became of the most influential car combat games ever. Twisted Metal: Season 2 has just released so this episode is the perfect catch-up for everything you might've missed or forgotten.    Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 64: Top 10 Nintendo 64 Games (with Vito)

We've made it to Episode 64 and there's no better way to celebrate than sharing our Top 10 Nintendo 64 Games! The iconic successor to the SNES may not have been nearly as successful as the PS1, but that didn't stop it from becoming the king of multiplayer gaming and genre defining classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This was a really exciting episode for us to record since we got to revisit playing so many of these games together. I talk about how we almost got a Nintendo Playstation and what led to the last major cartridge based system we'd see.    0:00 - Episode start and what we've been playing 18:50 - The History of the N64 39:40 - Top 10 N64 Games   Email us:  [email protected]   Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 63 1/3: The Best Games of 2025...So Far

We're pulling a Clayfighter with the episode numbering here and that's because Episode 64 will be all about our Top 10 N64 games. But before that, we decided to talk about the BEST games we've played so far this year. As mind blowing as it feels, 2025 is already half over and it's already been been a stacked year for new games. DOOM: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Mario Kart World,  are just a few on top of some of last year's games we've finally gotten to. The back half of the year is even bigger which will make our annual Game of the Year episode that much more difficult. Episode 63: Great Games That Didn't Click

This could be the most offensive episode we've ever released! We've all played games that may have had the best reviews, endless praise from gamers, or sold millions of copies and somehow just never held our interest. Today's episode is a great discussion about how and why some of the biggest games never hooked us. Both of us have varied but different tastes so there are some painful discussions about how series like God of War or Cyberpunk 2077 just didn't click.    Let us know what games you wish hooked you! Episode 62: The Best Racing Games

Racing fever is in the air and we've both got a need for speed this week so Deucy and I are sharing some of our favorite racing and driving games! Both of us have played a lot of racing games over the last...35 years.. and we've rounded up some classics like R.C. Pro-Am and some more modern games like Forza Horizon and Split/Second that had us glued to our seats for hours. I definitely lean more on the arcade racer side and Deucy moreso on simulation racers so we've got a pretty awesome episode no matter what you prefer. Episode 61: Bond Games Finale - The Rise and Fall of 007 (2001 - 2012)

We're concluding our Bond anthology and covering 007's final decade in the gaming world. EA undertook a huge task trying to follow up Goldeneye after it set  the console gaming on fire and they actually made some great games! Deucy and I revisit the last of the Bond games starting with 2001's arcadey-but-still-awesome Agent Under Fire which led to the best games Bond would ever see with Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and From Russia with Love - but things got really interesting when the Activision era started with Quantum of Solace. We cover the tumultuous history of Bond games, especially leading into the final near-disaster that was 007 Legends. 0:00 - Episode start and what we've been playing 24:18 - Topic start   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPod BlueSky: LegionGamingPod.bsky.social

Episode 60: Goldeneye (N64) - Changing Console Gaming Forever (with Vito and Randy)

We covered the first era of James Bond games in Episode 57 and there's no way we couldn't dedicate an entire episode to Goldeneye! We invited Vito and Randy to revisit one of the N64's most legendary and influential games. Goldeneye is synonymous with console gaming and multiplayer and we talk about how it started off as a Virtua Cop-like rail shooter before it evolved into one of the most iconic first person shooters in history.   0:00 - What we've been playing and Switch 2 preorders 23:33 - Goldeneye start   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 59: WWF & WCW Wrestling Games on the N64 and PS1 (with Mike)

FINALLY, we have come BACK with another wrestling episode! Wrestlemania has passed and we thought we'd go on our own road to nostalgia and cover all of the PS1/N64 WCW & WWF wrestling games. We're go through 14 games released between 1996 and 2000 start with WWF: In Your House and WCW vs The World to the truly legendary and hall of fame worthy WWF No Mercy on the N64.  Not everything we talk about today is a slobberknocker, but the three of us had a great time talking about the foundations of today's wrestling games and everything good and bad about wrestling during the late 90's.   Join us in two weeks as we invite our friend Vito to talk about one of the most important console games EVER - Goldeneye!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 58: 007 James Bond Games Anthology (1982 - 2000)

We've decided to anthologize all of the James Bond games and this week we're covering releases from 1982 until 2000. Goldeneye on the N64 was the first major 007 game for many people, including us, but Bond had almost 15 years of games before that. We start with the 1982 U.K. only release of 'Shaken But Not Stirred' and all the way through the Twisted Metal/Driver-inspired 007 Racing for PS1 in 2000.   Goldeneye is such a massively influential game that we'll be doing a whole deep dive episode - keep an eye our for that in early May and we'll later cover the rest of the Bond games too!   0:00 - Intro and what we've been playing and Switch 2 News 21:10 - Topic Start   Email us at [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast BlueSky: legiongamingpod.bsky.social

Street Fighter II recently celebrated its 34th anniversary and it's one of my favorite series of all time. I grew up with fighting games and none made more of an impact at the arcades and fighting games than Street Fighter II. We invited our friends Randy and Juan to talk about the origins of fighting games, the original Street Fighter and each version of its iconic sequel. SF2 lead to a HUGE boom of fighting games and the four of us share our memories and why this series is still going strong after over 35 years. This game is a special one for all of us so enjoy! Super Mario Kart on the SNES was an instant classic that spawned an iconic series that's spanned over 33 years at this point. Deucy's birthday wish was to rank all of the Mario Kart games and we invited our friend, the 8BitBarrister Vito, to join us! We go through each game in chronological order and share our individual ranks before we total them to score the DEFINITIVE Mario Kart ranking. Episode 55: Beat 'Em Ups Strike Back

Beat 'em ups have had a huge resurgence in the last five years or so. The genre was at its peak in the early 90's until it slowly fizzled out over the last couple of decades, partly because there wasn't a whole lot of innovation. What's old is eventually new again and we're celebrating "Beat 'Em Ups Strike Back" in this episode as we dive into three games that all have their own legacies from the past - Streets of Rage 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind! SoR4 and TMNT particularly injected new life into the genre and Rita's Rewind is the newest game that went back to it's early 16-bit roots. If you want to revisit our past episode that covered each of these series, check out the list below!   Episode 27: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Episode 40: The NES TMNT Trilogy Episode 43: 16-bit TMNT Games + Tournament Fighters Episode 51: Streets of Rage Trilogy   Send us an email or find us on Instagram! Episode 54: The Most Influential Games.. of ALL TIME (with Randy)

We've got a big episode this week for your (hopefully) long Valentine's weekend! We invited our friend Randy to put together a list of the Most Influential Games... of ALL TIME! The three of us made a list of 15 games each that we thought made a significant impact on gaming decades after they were released. Lots of outlets have done their own lists with some choices that we wouldn't include so we thought we'd 1-Up them in this episode (Sorry Fortnite, we're not going to thank you for FOMO, Battle Passes, CEO's desperate to chase live service games, and microtransactions).  We've got a wide variety of games here and we make a case for why each of these should be on anyone's list and how they've spawned entire genres or continue to influence games decades later. Of course, if you think we missed something or think we made the wrong pick - let us know!   Find us on Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast Email: [email protected] BlueSky: @legiongamingpod.bsky.social

Episode 53: Onimusha: Warlords (PS2) - The Ninja Resident Evil

This week is all about demon-slaying samurai! We were very excited to see Capcom announce Onimusha: Way of the Sword and wanted to give everyone a primer on the original Onimusha: Warlords. Onimusha was an early PS2 game released in March of 2001 (just six months after the U.S. launch of the system) and was originally named "Sengoku Biohazard" as it was a ninja themed Resident Evil game. Deucy and I talk through its development history as a N64 and PS1 game before it shifted to the PS2 and dive into the game itself and how it holds up nearly 24 years later! I've had plenty of experience with this one but this was Deucy's first play so he's got some fresh impressions from the 2019 Remaster.   Keep an ear out for our next episode where we cover the Most Influential Games of All Time with our friend Randy! Episode 52: Iconic Weapons

This week Deucy and I are talking iconic gaming weapons! We took a small break from our normal deep dives and decided to spin up a big list of some of the best weapons we've ever used. Both of us made our lists and we break it down by generation starting with the NES all the way to some of the more recent favorite like the G.L.O.O Cannon from Prey in 2017. What makes a weapon iconic? It can be anything from how it looks, its utility, how badass it is, or how weird they are. You'll also get a pretty good idea of our individual tastes - we've got some of the big ones like Link's Master Sword and some unique oddities like Alan Wake's flashlight.  Lock and load this week's episode and then let us know what YOUR iconic weapons are by emailing us or visiting us on Instagram!   Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 51: The Streets of Rage Trilogy

Happy New Year! Our first episode of 2025 covers one of the greatest beat 'em up trilogies EVER - Streets of Rage! Sega released the original Streets of Rage exclusively on the Genesis in 1991 when Capcom and Konami had been dominating the beat 'em up scene at the arcades. It released to wide acclaim for it's fantastic graphics, 90's club vibe, and an amazing soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro. Streets of Rage 2 followed in late 1992 and was even better than the original in every way possible - the soundtrack itself is timeless and was way ahead of it's time. Streets of Rage 3 later followed in 1994 as the Genesis was slowly winding down in favor of the Saturn and 32X (kind of...). Deucy and I revisit the trilogy and how it holds up today as we dive into the history and development of each game. You're bound to learn something new and maybe scratch that nostalgia itch too.. Join us as we risk everything, including our lives, on the..... STREETS OF RAGE!   Send us an email! [email protected] Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 50: Our Game of the Year - The Best (and Worst) of 2024

We've made it to episode 50! 2024 was a very good year for game releases - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Astro Bot, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are just a handful of the heavy hitters we saw this year. Deucy and I played A LOT and for our final episode of the year, we share our individual lists of the BEST and some of the more disappointing games we played. We first cover what we're looking forward to after all of the big announcements of the game awards. You'll hear the worst of gaming in 2024, our honorable mentions, and we finally share what we put on our Top 10 Games of the Year. Our lists are pretty different which makes this episode even more fun to listen to so let us know what you thought of where we placed everything.   Follow us on Instagram! @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 49: Street Fighter: The Movie 30 Years Later

We're doing something a little different this week! We're reviewing and diving into a movie based on a game and also the game based on the movie that was based on the game... We invited our friend Vito, the 8BitBarrister, to discuss Street Fighter: The Movie and Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. After Super Mario Bros. and Double Dragon stunk up the theaters, Capcom wanted join the fight in December 1994 with Street Fighter: The Movie. The cast, notably Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia,  make it wildly fun time of a movie that's reached cult status 30 years later despite its odd James Bond-like plot. We're also reviewing the games based on the movie - Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game! Digitized graphics were all the rage in the early 90's thanks to games like Mortal Kombat and NARC and Capcom thought it'd be a good idea to make a Street Fighter game in the same style. You'll hear all about the Arcade and home versions for the PS1 and Saturn, so press start to continue!   Find us on Instagram: @LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 48: Gunstar Heroes (with special guest Juan) - A Genesis Run n' Gun Treasure

This week, Deucy and I invited our friend Juan to talk about one of the Genesis' run n' gun gems Gunstar Heroes! This is one of Juan's favorite games of all time and he really wanted to revisit it with us and talk about why this cult classic is one of the best games on the Genesis. Gunstar Heroes was Treasure's debut game before they would quickly be known as one of Sega's best and most unique game developers. We dive into the history of Treasure, including how much of the team were Konami vets, and the interesting deal that led to the Gunstar Heroes being created (there's a tie to McDonald's that you wouldn't expect.....). It's still one of the most impressive 16-bit games you'll ever see and we had a lot of fun talking through everything Gunstar Heroes did right!   Follow us on Instagram and Threads at LegionGamingPodcast

Episode 47: Turok on the N64 - From 1950's Comics to First Person Dinosaur Hunting

We've got a nice beefy episode of dinosaur hunting this week when Deucy and I revisit the entire Turok series on the N64. We're covering it from it's comic book beginnings in the 1950's to it's incredible, if underappreciated, quadrilogy of games on Nintendo's iconic fifth generation console. Deucy and I share our thoughts on recent games we've been playing including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard before we dive into all four Turok games. The N64 only had around 12 games when Turok: Dinosaur Hunter released in March 1997 and we examine how the series changed from its start as an influential console shooter and how it compared to contemporaries by the time Turok 3 was released in 2000. And we'll definitely be answering how well these games hold up with the incredible remasters from Nightdive Studios   Follow us on Instagram and Threads! @LegiongGamindPodcast

BONUS EPISODE! Episode 46: Resident Evil - Suvival Horror Defined

This episode is dropping on Halloween and there's no other game that deserves a bonus episode - Resident Evil! We open the episode some recent games we've been getting into - I talk about how great the Silent Hill 2 Remake really is and and Retro Realms: Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead, a really cool sidescrolling slasher by Way Forward. We recently got Analogue Pockets and Deucy we get into what it is and how well it plays GameBoy/GBC/GBA/GameGear and a lot more!   We're revisiting PS1 classic that redefined survival horror and how it went from a supernatural horror first person game with co-op to the George Romero-esque zombie nightmare that we all loved back in 1996. We'll also dive into the Gamecube exclusive (originally...) 2002 Remake and many of the other ports and versions that existed.  It's a game with a long history and I recommend you revisit our Top 10 Resident Evil Games in Episode 7 and enjoy this deep dive into the genre defining original!

Episode 45: DOOM - The Most Important Game of All Time?

We're continuing Horrorfest this month with a brand new episode about one of the most important games of all time - DOOM! Released in December 1993, it quickly became the biggest PC game of all time for its stunning graphics and sound, incredible level design, and ripping and tearing into any demon that stands in the Space Marine's way. We revisit the history of ID Software and Doom from the origins of the genre that it would ultimately define for decades to come to the development, release and the ports. It's impossible to overstate the impact and influence Doom would have on gaming and this episode was a great one to record.   Don't forget our BONUS EPISODE releases on Halloween! Episode 44: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

It's October and our first episode cover the 1997 PS1 masterpiece Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! This was a massive departure from anything the Castlevania had previously done and it created an entirely new genre that has hundreds of games released every year. SotN is one of my favorite games of all time and in this episode we dive into the development history including its origins on the 32X! This was Deucy's first time actually finishing the first castle and he shares his experience and how this holds up 27 years later (you'll never guess....). Episode 43: TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Hyperstone Heist, and Tournament Fighters

In episode 40, we covered the original NES trilogy of TMNT games and this week we're back covering the 16-bit games! This era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games is arguably the peak of all TMNT games. Turtles in Time was a sequel to the hit original arcade game and it was made even BETTER on the SNES and we cover the big differences between to the do and which one gets turned into turtle soup. We also cover Hyperstone Heist for the Genesis, which was a heavily changed port of Turtles in Time, and Deucy and I break down all three versions of Tournament Fighters. The NES, SNES, and Genesis versions are all drastically different and we breakdown each one and make the final call on the best one. Don't forgot to follow us on Instagram for our 31 Games of Horror Horrorfest! Our next episode is the 1997 masterpiece Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, releasing on October 11th. Episode 42: NFL Arcade Games

This week, Deucy and I hit the gridiron with some of the best arcade football games in history! The NFL season has just started and while sports sims hold their place among the hardcore, arcade-style sports made the experience far more accessible. We start with the Tecmo Bowl series, from its origins in the arcade in the late 80s to becoming one of the most iconic sports games ever. We've also revisited the NFL Blitz and NFL Street series to talk about their histories and how some of the games hold up decades later.   Send us email at [email protected] Follow us on Instagram to see all the amazing these we post about the show and our collections: @LegionGamingPodcast

    Episode 41: Jurassic Park (SNES/Genesis)

This week, Deucy and I dive back into the world of games based on movies with Jurassic Park for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis! Jurassic Park is one of the best movies ever made and there epitomized "blockbuster" in 1993. Naturally, many developers were desperate to get the license to what was guaranteed to be the year's biggest movie. The Super Nintendo version was developed by Ocean while the Genesis version was developed by BlueSky Software and these games could not be more different. We revisited both games and share our memories and experiences on how well both of these games hold up 31 years later with the Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection. Episode 40: The NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy

This week, we're going back to the beginnings of everyone's favorite heroes in a half shell with the NES TMNT trilogy! Deucy and I were playing the more recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate and we figured it was a perfect time to talk about the earlier games. We start in 1989 when the turtles were at their most popular and Konami (under Ultra Games) released the first game that was notorious for many reasons. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game was a far better game and one of the best arcade conversions of the time. Deucy and I get into the development of the games and our memories of TMNT III: The Manhattan Project. This was a really great series of games to revisit, press start to continue!   Releasing August 30th: Jurassic Park for the SNES and Genesis Email us: [email protected] Instagram: LegionGamingPodcast
