Defining ourselves through daily interactions
We can all think of personal examples of hiding the truth from ourselves through persistently telling ourselves a story that lets us off the hook.--- Enjoyed this episode? Creations are numberless, I vow to free them
Everything in the world that is man made started out as an idea. What we can create is numberless and that is both in the physical and in the mental realm. But to come up with truly new thinking we have to free ourselves from our ‘old’ thinking. --- Enjoyed this episode? Delight Catching
We are surrounded by little miracles. In Australia right now it is the changing to autumn colours. Every day, the sunrise and sunset create majestic art pieces across the sky. On a smaller scale, in our daily interactions, we trust each other. Daily we experience many acts of kindness, little smiles, little gestures, little acts of love. Yet sometimes we are unable to notice because we are lost in our own worry worlds. We are lost in what someone has said, what we have not said or said, what is unfair, what is not right, what is not done, and so on. We are lost in ‘me-ing’. Me-ing is a ticket to misery. Me-ing causes delight-blindness. --- Join Charlotte on retreat: https://themindfulnessclinic.com.au/events/ --- If you need assistance with mindfulness or mindful eating, you can start with our free resources or look into our Dear Body program.

What is outwardly lost must be inwardly gained
Sometimes when we experience failure or pain, we feel that it is not right, almost as if we expect our lives not to present any difficulties, as if we should just slip through life, all smooth sailing, experiencing only pleasant and wonderful things. Yet there is a Danish saying: ‘What is outwardly lost must be inwardly gained’. We grow through difficulty. --- If you need assistance with mindfulness or mindful eating, you can start with our free resources or look into our Dear Body program. --- Find out more about our VAC - Comprehensive Leadership Solutions

This will surprise you! The real reason you have gained weight.
As you know, we are increasingly getting larger. The Defence Force in Denmark has seen fifty times as many overweight men now compared to the sixties. In Australia, about two-thirds of the population is overweight or obese. And this is increasing. In the Pacific Islands, the number is 80%. An extra kilo a year adds up. --- If you need assistance with mindfulness or mindful eating, you can start with our free resources or look into our Dear Body program. --- Find out more about our VAC - Comprehensive Leadership Solutions

Happy New Year 2024
Let us hope this year brings more wisdom and kindness, particularly to those in power and those with influence. Something that has been on my mind is how much focus there is on individual success versus community or societal success. And along with that our very poor use of the word ‘success’. --- If you need assistance with mindfulness, start with the free resources on our website, or get in touch to talk about personal coaching options.

We are never done.
“At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit, or further away from it.” Thich Naht Hahn Oh, what a satisfied feeling there is when a retreat is complete! New friendships have been made, new ways of experiencing played with, deep discussions had, and more mindfulness practice engaged in. It is always interesting to see what ‘catches’ during a retreat. One of the quotes referred to many times was from Ram Dass: “I can do nothing for you but work on myself…you can do nothing for me but work on yourself!” --- Enjoyed this episode? The world has lost its "off" button!
In two recent leadership sessions, the same theme has come up. In one someone asked, ‘Why do we have to get better? Why can’t we just be good at our work and be left alone? We do the job well and that is that.’ The other comment was from someone saying that within their organisation many people just want the job to pay the bills; they don’t want career promotion. Both comments reflect the idea of ‘enough’. --- Enjoyed this episode? Imprisoned by nonsense
We inherit our language and with that our understanding of the world. Language and words connect us; they also reveal us. Words map and represent our inner lives and provide an opportunity for that to be shared. Ideally, throughout our lives we grow, become wiser and more inclusive, and deepen our understanding of the world... --- Enjoyed this episode? Four pillars for resilience
When things get tough, we are left with what we have grown inside ourselves. We are resilient when we can manage the day-to-day stresses in our lives and still stay focused on our day-to-day goals as well as the larger ones, and when we can recover from the worst day in our life. Not being resilient means that we are in the grips of our childhood input and whatever might be going on around us. Of course, there are huge things like the death of a loved one that swoop us up and keep us suspended for years and when we finally land, we find that the new version of life we have includes a burning wound in the heart. There are some key principles though when it comes to resilience. We can start to build resilience at any time, and there is nothing like when the sh.. hits the fan and we realise that we have the goodies in the backpack to not fall apart. Eleven things Mindfulness is not
When I first came across mindfulness, I didn’t really get it. I had the Jon Kabat-Zinn definition of mindfulness: “awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally”. (Later he added: “… in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.”) Hmm …. big mouthful! That describes mindfulness in action but still leaves it wide open to misunderstanding. When I encountered the article “9 Things Mindfulness is Not” by Dimple Dhabalia, I found it helped dispel the many misunderstandings about what mindfulness is. So here is my version. --- Mentioned in this episode: “9 Things Mindfulness is Not” by Dimple Dhabalia A systematic review and meta-analysis of psychological interventions to improve mental wellbeing --- Enjoyed this episode? At home in my life
I just turned 60. When I was 18 I used to reflect on those who were thirty and wonder what on earth they could possibly live for. The same partner, children, responsibilities, work etc? How utterly boring! Then I turned 30 and saw life in a different way. Mentioned in this episode: Actuary tables --- Enjoyed this episode? Sweeping, Live life to the fullest
One of the challenges of this time of the year is all of the images of the perfect Christmas that we walk around with in our head. As a consequence, we run around stressing about making it all perfect. Yet because we compare our experience with an impossible ideal, it never lives up to how it 'should' be. We feel disappointment, even a sense of failure. Naturally, however, the ideal Christmas is a curated ideal, and an external view, whereas our reality is an internal perspective full of all our 'to do's', commentaries and self-doubt.
