    In season 5, episode 3, for Pride Month, we talk with creator of Rebirth Garments, Sky Cubacub.Sky Cubacub (They/Them/Theirs/Xey/Xem/Xyrs) is a nonbinary disabled Filipinx neuroqueer from Chicago, IL. They are the creator of Rebirth Garments, a line of wearables for trans, queer and disabled people of all sizes and ages, which started in summer 2014. Xey are the author of “Radical Visibility: a Queercrip Dress Reform Movement Manifesto” and the editor of the Radical Visibility Zine, a full color cut and paste style zine that celebrates disabled queer life. They also are a founding member of Radical Visibility Collective, which creates fashion performances with audio descriptive songs. Xey created Radical Fit, a free online queercrip DIY fashion program and fashion incubator with the Chicago Public Library which has a yearly summer celebration, Queer Radical Fair, at Ping Tom Park in Chicago. They are in the process of creating an online kids show about joyful disability access called “Sky and The Rebirth Warriors”.     On Saturday, June 22, 2024, Pilipinx in Wellness was invited by Intuitive Energy Healer, Reiki Master, Sound Healer, Spiritual Life Coach and Child Life Specialist, Anne Esperanzate in collaboration with the Kubo Organizing Project held at Kubo Long Beach from 11am-3pm. Kapwa was an event that featured Filipinx healers, readers, and wellness practitioners. It opened with a Sound Bath & Ancestral Meditation led by Anne Esperanzate, Iza Ballesteros and Corinne St. Claire. Amongst those who participated included: candles sold by @luyahealing , bodywork provided by @SoulutionTherapy, hilot and stretching through @Layuuhhh and oracle readings by @rockdovewellness. The purpose of the event was to gather community to learn and tap into the alternative holistic and indigenous healing modalities that support the spiritual and wellness journeys of Filipinx American identities. They co-facilitated intersectional coalitional activisms in Southern California (Tongva/Chumash lands) and co-founded a youth learning program and a 2STQBIPOC led organization in Eastern Washington (Niimiipuu lands). Dr. Abustan is working on their first book reflecting upon their experiences as a queer Pilipinx cripnographer who witnessed youth and youth educator led disability justice worldmaking at an elementary school. They are an alumni of UC Santa Barbara, CSU Northridge, and Washington State University. They taught at Western Washington University, Highline College, University of Washington, and Washington State University. Their recent journal articles are featured in Cultural Studies Lateral and Research in Arts and Education. They are a faculty affiliate for UC Davis Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies and a co-leader of the Critical Filipinx Studies Collective. They were awarded the Mentoring Hall of Fame with the National Disability Mentoring Coalition. He is a California governor appointee, serving as Vice-Chair on the Executive Committee of the State Independent Living Council, since 2022. Roque was the Co-Chair of the Access For All, Disability Advisory Committee, for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. He also serves as Vice-Chair on California's Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness, SAMHSA's federal oversight committee. On behalf of the California Arts Council Arts Infrastructure Groups Initiative, Roque was the former Director of the statewide Pilipino Artists Network (PAN), a division of the non-profit, FilAm ARTS. He is also one of the founders of the Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture (FPAC). Roque Alas Bucton holds a World Music, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He also holds an Advanced Assistive Technology Training certification. Further, Mr. Bucton is a certified Disability Peer Specialist. Roque is a holder of several Srivijaya spiritual, music, and martial arts lineages. Nelson Raboy is a 2nd generation Fil-Am with parents born/raised in Hawai'i. He took the training wheels off at age 5. He's been in the bike industry since 1998, holding various positions. He now owns Bicycle Patrol Outfitters, LLC, specializing in bicycle equipment virtual sales and mobile service for law enforcement and security. He does a couple of weekly rides ranging from Mountain, Cyclocross and Road.     Dentistry & Capoeira with Nes Marco Morales

    In our Season 3 opener, we talk with Dental Hygienist and Capoeira Instrutor, Nes Marco Morales (IG: @dentalcaredalycity, @capoeiradalycity).Nes Marco Morales, a.k.a. "Kuya Galo" was born a first generation Pilipino-American in San Francisco, California. His family has been in a family dental care practice for about 40 years, starting in the Philippines. His parents immigrated to the USA and opened their first family dental care clinic in June 1989. In 1999, Nes Marco began to take responsibilities at the business from ground up until eventually holding every position at the one point in his career. Before his commitment to the practice, he explored many pathways away from dental work, such as culinary arts and dance. He eventually found all the signs that he needed to confirm that dental care was his unique gift to help make a difference in his community during his dental mission trip abroad in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He graduated from West Los Angeles Dental Hygiene Program and received his Registered Dental Hygiene License in 2016.His passion for movement and martial arts began in 1994 with Professor Gerald Ronan and Professor Vince Ronan of Ralph Castro Shaolin Kenpo Karate, where after 20+ years later he has reunited with them to hold Capoeira classes at their SKMA studio in Daly City. During the years prior to his dedication to capoeira, Galo sought out other styles of martial arts/dance movements such as Ballroom, Filipino Folk Dance, Chang Chuan Kung Fu, Judo, Filipino Martial Arts, B-boying and Lucha Libre Wrestling.His first Capoeira experience began in 2004. In 2008, Galo finally found his path back into the Capoeira and Samba dance arts. He competed multiple years in the International Capoeira Federation Championship Tournament and earned his three medals. He has performed professionally on many cultural shows especially with Ana Laidley of Malandro N'Motion, Rock N' Rio Las Vegas Music Festival with Brasil Brasil Cultural Center, Gafieira Brasil Competition showcase with Rodrigo Marques in Rio de Janeiro, and in the National Samba King and Queen Competition held in Arizona, where he was crowned the "National Prince of Samba". Instrutor Galo began his regular training with Capoeira Batuque in 2009.Today, Galo resides in the Bay Area married with two children, practicing dental hygiene, and continues his capoeira mission under the guidance of the legendary Mestre Amen Santo and Mestre Versátil Ismail.
