Ep 169. 1 John 4-5 - Assurance and Confidence for the Believer (Women's Bible Study)
Alright, Walkies. Here is the long overdue conclusion to our study of 1 John, with a double dose from chapters 4 & 5. I did have to trim about 20 minutes off the final recording just to keep it a manageable length, so I left a little bit on the table, but a good part of on of the trims is a bonus episode I am thinking about for the summer hiatus months. These two final chapters are all about assurance and confidence for the believer abiding in Christ. How can we be sure? How can we be sure God abides with us? How can we be confident for the day of judgement? How can we be sure that we have achieved victory over the world? Oh John has some powerful words of assurance and unrefutable testimonies that we can turn to. I hope this episode blesses you. Ep 168. 1 John 3: Behold, of what country....(Women's Bible Study)
OK, chapter 3 is finally here. My sincere apologies again for being a week late. I'm determined to get us back on track. We see in this chapter that John is echoing the words of Jesus he heard spoken as a young follower. So when his audience asks "what gospel do we follow," John can point them back to the source, Jesus himself. We revisit some familiar themes such as abiding, the old/new commandment, and the practice of righteousness. John also introduces a new theme of being called children of God, and as a child of God, we are marked with genetic markers of our Father. John says this is a lavish love that God has bestowed on us, and it's a love not of this earth. This unique and matchless love should fill us with confidence as we look forward the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, and as we approach our Father in prayer. Ep. 167. Prepisode for 1 John 3: Women's Bible Study
So we find ourselves crossing over the half way point of 1 John today as we begin chapter 3. We're actually reading from 1 John 2:28-29, then all of chapter 3, so don't miss those first two verses!! Do you have your colored pens and highlighters ready? Your text should be awash with color if you are doing this exercise of marking repeated words, phrases and ideas. We can easily divide this weeks text into two main sections: 2:28-3:10, then 3:11 - 3:24. Can you identify the main theme from each section? Why would you choose this theme? Once again John uses the word "KNOW" extensively in this passage. We talked about his two uses of the word in the last episode. Pay attention this week to see which way he is using it again. By now you should be able to identify John's three tests. (Well, can you???) As you read through this text, take note of which test John is writing about. Remember, John layers these teachings like a triple chocolate cake! Take note of John's use of contasts to make these tests (or assurances) real practical. Once you can identify them, John basically gives common sense examples as markers of believers and unbelivers. Finally, what word does John use in 2:28 and 3:21 to bookend this section. Is this a word you would readily use to describe your position with God? Look up the following verses: Ephesians 5:27 Colossians 1;22 1 Thessalonians 5:23 How do these verses relate to John's word, and do they help you as you think about your position to the word? Ep 166. 1 John 2 - Three Tests of Faith: Doctrine, Obedience, & Love (Women's Bible Study)
So this week, the apostle John very tenderly yet very earnestly writes to his audience with discussion on some heavy weight contenders for theological doctrines: our advocate in Jesus, tests of obedience and love, levels of spiritual growth, temptations from the world, and false teachers, whom John comes right out and calls antichrists. I think as these "tests" begin to take shape, we also see how they are meant to be assurances to the faithful followers of Jesus. John isn't writing to scare people, he's writing to give them real assurance when their faith has been shaken. Ep 165. Prepisode for 1John Chapter 2: Women's Bible Study
We are continuing out study of John's longer epistle this week as we read chapter 2. Your reading time is right around 4 1\2 minutes. Last week, we picked up a thread where John begins to indentify contrasts between people who walk in the light of Christ, and those who walk in darkness. John will continue to blend this thread into the tapestry this week, as he points out more differences in these two groups. Here are some things for you to think about and look for as you read: 1) Remember John's overall message in this epistle is 3 tests or assurances for people to apply to their lives in order to have assurance they have eternal life. Always try to keep that in the forefront of your mind as you read. 2) Look for and mark or highlight any repeated words, phrases or ideas. 3) Try to pick out those contrasts John lays down between the two groups of people. 4) How does John describe Jesus' ongoing role in a believer's life? What is Jesus doing for us today? 5) In the last episode, we talked about how Jesus said "eternal life was knowing the Father and the Son. How does John say this week, that "we know we have come to know him?" 7) What is the "old - new" commandment John is talking about in vs 7-11? 8) What does John have to say about the world? Can you think of examples in each category of ** desires of the flesh ** desires of the eyes ** the pride of life **? 9) How does John define antichrists in this chapter? Who are these antichrists specifically? Does this surprise you? 10) If the people are asking "What gospel do we follow?" What advice or assurance does John offer them in verse 24? Which test is this? That's enough to get you started! Come back next week for the big discussion. Ep 164. 1st John chapter 1: Life and Light in God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ (Women's Bible Study)
Well, my apologies for being a week late with this episode. You'll have to listen for my explanation, and I do hope you will forgive me, you know, in the spirit of fellowship. John opens his sermon this week with a basic fundamental teaching of Christian doctrine. This is one we don't have any wiggle room on: Jesus is fully God and fully man. Can we explain it perfectly? Nope. Do we understand it fully? Probably not. Is it essential that we believe it? Absolutely! The Eternal Life who was with God the Father, became flesh and brought his light into the darkness of the world. Life and Light. John builds a framework for his audience to be assured of their salvation, and it begins with the belief that Jesus is fully God and fully man, and he came in the flesh to live a perfect life and stand in our place as a punishment for sin. Ep 163. Prepisode for 1st John chapter 1 (Women's Bible Study)
If you're just now joining us because you were looking for a Bible Study podcast on 1-2-3 John, you're in the right place, and we are so thankful you are here. But...let me give you a little heads up - we started our study on John's Epistles a little unconventionally, and we've already covered 3rd John and 2nd John respectively. So it may be worth your while to go back and listen to our introduction episode, and then the discussions on 3rd and 2nd John to catch you up! Now, for those of you who have been waiting for us to arrive at 1st John, today is your day! We are reading the 1st chapter of 1st John this week. Your reading time is 1:30, so actually you have time to read the entire scroll (all 5 chapters of 1st John), which will only take you about 16 minutes. Let me challenge you to do that at least two times this week - because let's not forget, the epistle was written as one long letter on one scroll. It is meant to be read all in one seating. Then as you begin to focus in on chapter 1, here is an excercize for you to do, and some things for you to look for, make note of, and think about as you read: 1) With colored pens/pencils/highlighters, mark any repeated words, phrases or ideas. 2) Go back and read the gospel of John, 1:1-5. What similarities to you see with these verses and the opening verses of John's epistle here? 3) How does John describe his interaction with Jesus in verses 1-3, and why was it important for him to establish this interaction? 4) How does John develop the theme of fellowship in this chapter? 5) Look for contrasting themes in vs 5-10. (Hint, there are TWO DIFFERENT sets of contrasts!) Why do you think John uses these contrasts as a teaching tool? 6) What is John's purpose for writing this letter? What specific theme is he referring to? (Hint: it's the exact same thing we talked about last week.) 7) What all does this chapter teach us about Jesus? I could go on and on...but this will get you started and give you a good foundation for the discussion. I will meet you right back here next week for the longer discussion! Ep. 162. 2nd John: Love and False Teachers (Women's Bible Study)
Ahhhh, 2nd John...a quick introduction to the big letter of 1st John. If it were written today, it might include a list of bullet points like this: TRUTH LOVE WARNING ABOUT FALSE TEACHERS THE WRONG AND RIGHT KIND OF FELLOWSHIP INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF "ABIDING" John lays the foundation with these themes and gives us a little sampling of what's coming in his longer letter, but this letter is still important. It's a starting point and a guiding light that will lead the way into deeper teaching. What do you notice that is different? If we said the overall theme last week is TRUTH...what do you think the overall theme this week is? Ep 160. 3rd John: Love in Truth (Women's Bible Study)
Welcome to a brand new study this week as we embark of a 7 week study of the Epistles of John....and this week, we begin with THIRD JOHN. That's right, we begin with the most personal and shortest of the three letters, but it's only short in length. It's long in gospel TRUTH. In fact, "TRUTH" is the main theme of the letter, as John loves in TRUTH, Gaius walks in TRUTH, believing brothers work for the TRUTH, and Demetrius receives his testimony from the TRUTH. Some other themes explored in this short epistle are love and fellowship. John is setting us up for what's coming in his longer letter, and we want to be ready for it. John also loves a good contrast, and in this letter he contrasts the character of two church members. One is a good example to follow, the other is someone who needs to be snatched from the fire. Ep. 159. Introduction AND Prepisode to 1-2-3 John (Women's Bible Study)
Welcome Back! Or just Welcome Welcome if you're new around here. We are back from our extended Spring Break with a brand new study of the New Testament books of 1-2-3 John. I am super excited to introduce these letters to you today where the Apostle John takes on false teachers who were infiltrating the churches around Ephesus where John was now living. These false teachers were confusing believers to the extent that believers were asking the question "What gospel do we believe?" John answers this question in a way that leaves no room for error, and is meant to comfort his readers that the true gospel is that which was heard from Jesus, the Son of God. Some of the major themes that run through these letters are: *the true doctrine of the Son of God *abiding *the "new-old" commandment *fellowship & joy *light & darkness *love and obedience *truth & lies *antichrist & the world Jot these down as we will refer to them often as we move through these letters. Be sure to listen all the way to the end of the episode for a little twist to get us started and don't forget to invite a friend to join us! Ep 157. BONUS EPISODE!! Genesis to Revelation: The Original Food Network (Women's Bible Study)
Hey Hey Walkies! It's Bonus Episode time. This is one that I have had on the back burner for a while now. We first talked about it way back in Episode 41, where we see Abraham preparing a meal to serve to the LORD and two angels who come to visit. It was an intimate time of fellowship and connection, and I mentioned how often we see Jesus use this tool of sharing a meal in the gospels to do the same thing, connect with people and then teach them about his kingdom. Food is one of my favorite topics. I love to eat food, I love to cook food, I love to share food, I love to grow food...I pretty much love everything about food except doing the dishes. But just like everything else in the fall of creation, our relationship with food is broken. It is not what it was meant to be. Just like everything else in creation, God has to redeem and restore food and its purpose because humanity has twisted it from God's original design. When you start exploring this theme, you will find the Bible holds an entire Theology of Food. God has a lot to say about how we relate to one another and how we should relate to him....through food imagery. It is a physical and spiritual need that all humans share. Now we don't get to explore the entire Theology of Food today, but we do get to dive into the one aspect of how God is restoring fellowship with his people through the table. He constantly invites us to sit at his table and feast in his presence. You may find it surprising how common this theme is in Scripture. I hope you enjoy this bonus episode, and if you do, please share it with a friend. Invite them to the table. There is always room. Ep 155. Daniel Chapter 12: The Finale! (Women's Bible Study)
Well here we are today. finishing another book of the Bible together. Today we come to the conclusion of Daniel, where the final vision has Michael the Archangel rising up to defend and deliver the saints of God during the tribulation, where Daniel gets a clear vision, more clear than anyone else in the Old Testament, of resurrection life, where the wise will shine and reflect the glorious light of Christ. Now, it's not all completely clear to Daniel, and we have to deal with that in the conversation, but have no fear...this is a Tea Cup ride (you'll have to listen to get that reference!) and much of Daniel's confusion has been cleared up for us in the work and person of Jesus Christ. The time has been set for the end. In the meantime, we are to live into the calling God has placed upon our life. Ep. 154. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 12 (Women's Bible Study)
This is it! The final prepisode for the Book of Daniel. This one makes me a little sad...I wish we had just a little bit more! For starters this week, please look up the word "ESCHATOLOGY." This may or may not be a word you are familiar with, but as students of the Bible, we should be familiar with this good Bible word. If you continue to study the Bible and dig into commentaries or Seminary discourses, it will be a word you will encounter, and it plays into our reading this week in Chapter 12. Your reading time is quite short this week, so I don't feel too terrible about giving you some supplemental Scripture references to help you out. And yes, there are quite a few of them, but you don't have to read them every day. There are five questions with extra references attached, so you could do the extra reading on one question each day, and you will cover all of them. Here is a list of the questions and the additional references: Who is Michael and what is his role? Daniel 10:13 and 21 Jude 1:9 Revelation 12:7-9 What is the "time of trouble" that is coming? Jeremiah 30:4-9 Matthew 24:15-22 Revelation 16:17-21 What book is the angel referring to and what happens to the people who's name is written in it? What happens if a person's name is NOT written in it? Ezekiel 13:9 Luke 10:20 Philippians 4:3 Revelation 3:5 & 20:11-15 What is verse 2 talking about? Isaiah 26:19 Ezekiel 37:1-14 Matthew 25:31-46 John 5:26-29 At the end of the chapter, we get some numbers thrown at us. Without bogging yourselves down, what do you think these numbers mean? Are they literal or symbolic? Can you calculate these numbers in another way? Revelation 2:10, 11:1-3, 12:1-6 I know that is a lot, but you can do it!! Ep 153. Daniel chapter 11: The Book of Truth (Women's Bible Study)
We are winding down to the end of the Book of Daniel as we come to the penultimate chapter. This is an EPIC chapter where the Book of Truth is opened and Daniel is given very specific prophecy of what will happen to his people in the latter days. I've done a lot of the hard work for you in tracing the ancient history and filling in names and kingdoms with more specific details than simply "King of the North" and "King of the South." As these two kingdoms vie for ultimate authority, there is drama, alliances, arranged marriages, divorces, disinheriting children, breach of contracts, more divorce, more disinheriting, political pawns, assassination, revenge, looting and pillaging, mobilizing troops, traitors, murder, taxes, cunning and intrigue, intentional dishonor, breaking the holy covenant, defiling the temple, flagrant idolatry, and finally perseverance of the remnant. Whew!! Are you ready to follow along for this wild ride through chapter 11? Ep 152. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 11 (Women's Bible Study)
We are winding down another book of the Bible as we come to the next to last chapter of the Book of Daniel this week. This chapter sorta has bragging rights to the most detailed section of prophecy in all of the Bible. The chapter covers a time-span of about 375 years, and vs 1-35 contain some 135 prophecies that have been fulfilled! Now, I will admit it can seem a little bulky if you don't know a lot of very specific history, but what is my rule? (DON'T GET BOGGED DOWN!!) This episode gives you some information to help you keep it straight as you read, and gives you some tips to help sort out the passage of time. Also keep in mind: "The king of the South" always refers to the Ptolemaic Dynasty of EGYPT; "The king of the North" always refers to the Seleucid Dynasty of SYRIA. And since it covers 375 years, the crowns are passed down throughout the verses. (I know you're smart enough to figure that out, but it's just a little extra for no charge!) Ep 151. Daniel chapter 10: A Peek into the Spiritual Realm (Women's Bible Study)
What a fascinating chapter this week in our Women's Bible Study. Daniel Chapter 10 is one that can easily be skimmed over, or even skipped over, as its short narrative is a prelude to chapters 11 and 12. What a terrible and sad mistake this would be. Though it be short, it is deep and beautiful. In this episode, we talk about some of the interpretative differences which challenge us...what was Daniel mourning over, who was the man in linen, how many people are speaking with Daniel? These are not differences that should cause division, but I enjoy a healthy discussion and would always be open to that if you disagree with my interpretation. Ep 150. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 10 (Women's Bible Study)
It's pretty light reading this week as we prepare for the next couple of weeks as we wrap up the Book of Daniel. Daniel receives another round of heavenly visitors who explain the things taking place in the heavenly space that human eyes cannot see, in other words, spiritual warfare. It's going on right in the very context of chapter 10, and it will continue until the very end when the last enemy is defeated and God fully restores his kingdom and fills it with his saints. Here are the Scripture references you can read for additional insight: Revelation 1:13-15 Ezekiel 1:26-28 Leviticus 16:4 For a little extra for no charge, follow She Walks Worthy Podcast on Facebook or Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566142198837 SheWalksWorthyPodcast (@shewalksworthypodcast) • Instagram photos and videos Follow along for Women's Bible Study or Bible Study for Women (however you prefer to say it!), Beginners Bible Study, Teen Bible Study, Bible Study for New Christians, Busy Mom's Bible Study, Working Woman Bible Study, Mature Christian Bible Study, Book of Daniel | Daniel chapter 10 | Spiritual Warfare | Edict of Cyrus

Ep 149. Daniel chapter 9: Seventy Sevens (Women's Bible Study)
Judah's time in exile is almost over according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah. As Daniel is reading Jeremiah's scroll, he comes across the passage where God tells Jeremiah that the people of Judah will serve the king of Babylon for 70 years. Now since Daniel is also a student of the Torah, he also knows that the final phase of judgement (namely, exile) doesn't end until there is repentance and a turning back to the Lord. So what's a man of God to do? Daniel sets out to be the voice of contrition for his people, pleading for mercy according to the covenant promises God has made. And he receives a supernatural answer. The angel Gabriel visits Daniel again to explain how and when restoration will take place. Not when the 70 years end, but when 70 Sevens have passed. You know my motto: Don't get bogged down in the specific details. We can understand even amid the interpretations of the experts, that quite frankly, are a little messy, in my opinion. Ep 148. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 9 (Women's Bible Study)
This is our prepisode for Daniel chapter 9, with hints and reading tips to help make your study more profitable. The bulk of our reading is going to be Daniel's prayer in vs 4-19. Daniel makes use of several repeated themes that will be helpful to take note of. Daniel pleads for mercy for his people, but not based on their performance or righteousness. What is Daniel's basis for God's mercy? Gabriel comes bearing the news that there is still another period of time decreed for God's people to bear their suffering. Why was the 70 years of exile not enough? God's plan for total and complete restoration of God's people will come in three stages, based on this additional period of time. Don't get all bogged down with the time frames....but what are the three stages of restoration? Ep 147. Daniel Chapter 8: A Ram, A Goat, and another Little Horn (Women's Bible Study)
A history lover's dream. That's what Daniel 8 is. And while the setting is a backdrop of ancient world history, God has written it into his Bigger Story. As Cyrus' Medo-Persian Empire takes shape as the greatest superpower the world had known up to that point, God's story is BIGGER than that. As epic as Alexander the Great's story is, God's story is BIGGER. As big as Antiochus Epiphanes thought he was, God's story is BIGGER. Daniel witnesses almost unthinkable things in his second vision, things that once explained to him, leave him ill. But God has not abandoned his throne, and it's all part of his BIGGER story. Sometimes that's hard for us to understand. We don't have a compartment in our mind for "the sufferings of this world aren't worth comparing to the glory that awaits us." But that is where Daniel's faith carries him, and that is where our faith must carry us. And while we wait, there is kingdom work to be done. Ep 146. Re-Release of Ep 94 - Summer Mini Series, The Intertestamental Period (Women's Bible Study)
OK, so this is a little extra for no charge. This is a re-release which I think will be a helpful tool for Daniel Chapter 8, which partly covers the time frame of the Intertestamental Period. Right up front, I will tell you that I mispronounce the word "Intertestamental" not once...not twice...but through the entire episode. (insert facepalm emoji!!) So, yes, I am aware of it, but there's nothing I can do about it now, so please just overlook that part. That was just my brain playing a cruel trick on me. But back to the content...This episode covers the timeframe from the Babylonian exile (a little bit before the Intertestamental period) all the way through the early 1st century. We talk about the two Greats: Cyrus and Alexander, who are specifically referred to (not by name, but by nation) in Daniel 8. And also, Antiochus Epiphanes, who I don't mention by name (I think I was afraid to pronounce it. lol), but I do mention by reputation and deed. And he is a big part of Daniel chapter 8. So yeah, I think this episode will be insightful as you put the pieces together for this weeks Bible Study. Ep 145. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 8 (Women's Bible Study)
We've got a lesson straight out of the history books this week as we read Daniel chapter 8. It's Daniel's second vision about a ram, a goat, and some horns. The vision gets pretty specific this week, and it may be beneficial for you to listen to an episode released last summer about the Intertestamental Period, because that's the period of time a lot of this chapter deals with. (But let me warn you up front, I mispronounce "intertestamental" through the ENTIRE episode. Yes, it's quite embarrassing, but it's already out there, so what am I gonna do?? Mispronounciation aside, I think it will be helpful for you. Ep. 144. Daniel Chapter 7: Daniel's Vision of the 4 Beasts (Women's Bible Study)
Alrighty, we swim right on into deeper waters today, but I've tried to make the surface as smooth as possible for you. Daniel chapter 7 is the first of Daniel's apocalyptic visions (and you'll learn the real meaning of apocalypse in this episode!). He sees a lion, bear, and leopard...and he sees a beast he has no earthly reference for, and for a change, Daniel doesn't understand this vision. He receives some heavenly assistance to make sense of all of it, and in the end, he's left weak with the knowledge he receives. I know apocalyptic literature is something not everyone is keen on, so I've tried to make it as simple as possible without watering it down, so give Daniel chapter 7 a read if you haven't already, then have a listen to this episode and see if helps give YOU a clearer vision. Ep 143. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 7 (Women's Bible Study)
Today we transition from the familiar childhood stories in the book of Daniel to the more "adult" writing we call apocalyptic literature. Often this transition intimidates people, and they sort of abandon ship because they think it's going to be too difficult. But not us here at She Walks Worthy, right? We are in it for the entire journey! In this episode, I break the chapter down for you in bitesize pieces, which I think will make it easier to read and understand. (At least, that's my hope!) Here are the extra scripture references that will help you with the 3rd section: Mark 8:31 Mark 9:12 Mark 9:31 Mark 10:33-34 Mark 14:60-62 Acts 1:9 Revelation 1:5-7 For a little extra for no charge, follow She Walks Worthy Podcast on Facebook or Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566142198837 SheWalksWorthyPodcast (@shewalksworthypodcast) • Instagram photos and videos Follow along for Women's Bible Study or Bible Study for Women (however you prefer to say it!), Beginners Bible Study, Teen Bible Study, Bible Study for New Christians, Busy Mom's Bible Study, Working Woman Bible Study, Mature Christian Bible Study, Book of Daniel | Daniel chapter 7 | Vision of the Four Beasts | Ancient of Days | Son of Man

Ep 142. Daniel chapter 6: The One With Daniel in the Lion's Den (Women's Bible Study)
Ohhhhhh, is this the one you've been waiting for? It's Daniel 6 for this episode of our Women's Weekly Bible Study. Maybe you just call it Daniel in the Lion's Den. Do you remember how old you were when you first heard this story? Do you remember all the drama? There's jealousy, conspiracy, deception, espionage, dark night of the soul, vindication and retribution. Whew!! (The Bible is NOT boring!) We take a peek into ancient history and learn who the Medes were, how Cyrus became great, the mystery behind Darius the Mede, a little bit about Medo-Persian law, and an interesting little tid-bit about Belshazzar. Finally, we plug the story of Daniel into the bigger picture of the Bible and get one step closer to THE end of the story. Ep 141. Prepisode for Daniel chapter 6. (Women's Bible Study)
We reach the half-way point of the book of Daniel this week in our Women's Bible Study, and it's probably the most familiar story from the entire book. At least, it's probably the first story you learned in Sunday School from Daniel. That's right, we read about Daniel in the Lion's Den this week. In an effort to combat the temptation to "skim" the familiar text, you'll find some study prompts in this episode that will help you pay close attention as you read. Here is the list of additional references that will help you in that process, and perhaps refresh the story for you: Matthew 26:59-60 Matthew 27:15-18 Luke 22:39-41 Luke 23:13-15 and also vs 20-24 John 19:12-16 Matthew 27:65-66 Matthew 28:1-6 I know it's a little bit of extra reading, but we're here to get as much out of our study time as possible, right? Ep 140. Daniel chapter 5: The writing on the wall, the importance of being sober minded. (Women's Bible Study)
Can you read the writing on the wall? What does it tell you? We have probably never experienced the supernatural event that King Belshazzar experienced, being given a divine message from a disembodied hand, writing a message of divine judgement for not JUST a moment of drunken bad decision making, but a lifetime of flying in the face of God. But there probably have been times when we've "seen the writing on the wall," and thanks to passages like Daniel 5, we've been given the wisdom to understand God's warning. It's part of being sober minded. That's one of the big lessons from today's study. Ep 138. Daniel Chapter 4: The Humiliation and Restoration of Nebuchadnezzar (Women's Bible Study)
How well do you know the story of Daniel chapter 4? I confess, I had a surprise at the end. King Nebuchadnezzar has had another dream and asks Daniel to interpret it for him. For good reason, Daniel is hesitant. If Nebuchadnezzar won't humble himself and seek the righteousness of God, the dream is a warning of weighty judgement. Yes, Nebuchadnezzar was an instrument in God's hand to bring judgement against Judah, but Nebuchadnezzar was also responsible before God for his actions. It's the great paradox that our limited human minds wrestle with. Learn about the dream and the interpretation, and see the drama play out in your mind's eye as you listen to this episode. Here is an Amazon link to the two books I mentioned at the beginning. This is not a paid endorsement...just two books that I really enjoyed and I think you will too! Ep 137. Prepisode for Daniel Chapter 4 (Women's Bible Study)
As we get deeper and deeper into the Book of Daniel in our weekly Bible study, we get to know King Nebuchadnezzar in a more personal way: we know he can be brutal, we know his character, we know he loves his power and authority. We also know he has some insecurities. For all of his vanity, it seems he knows down deep there is something he is supposed to know, but he hasn't been able to grasp it yet. He has another lesson to learn this week in Daniel chapter 4. Unlike his last dream in chapter 2, a prophecy that will take place in "the latter days," we get to see the full impact of this dream. Nebuchadnezzar gets to tell his own story this week, and he doesn't leave out the gritty parts. This episode will give you some things to think about as you read. Ep 136. Daniel Chapter 3: "But If Not" Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego's kind of faith (Women's Bible Study)
Oh this is a big chapter for us this week as we look with adult eyes at what, for most of us, is one of the most beloved Bible stories from our childhood. In response to Daniel's interpretation of his dream in chapter 2, Nebuchadnezzar sets in motion his plan to keep his empire from falling. All he has to do is intimidate all the leaders of the Babylonian provinces to prostrate themselves in worship of a statue that "resembles" the statue from his dream...but with Nebbie's own twist. Intimidated people will be far less likely to rebel and try to overthrow his kingdom. He doesn't count on any resistance. And that's where our main characters come in. They refuse to bow down to an idol, and even threat of death won't deter them. Listen to the dramatic storyline unfold that leads to their statement of faith, "But if not...." Ep 134. Daniel chapter 2: Nebuchadnezzar's Troublesome Dream (Women's Bible Study)
How often do you dream? Can you see patterns in your dreams? Have you ever had recurring dreams? When I was a kid, I used to have a recurring dream that a family of vampires lived in our shower. I was well into my 20s before I could use a bathroom without opening the shower door or pulling back the curtain to make sure I was alone. (That's a little extra for no charge!!) In the ancient world, dreams were important, especially the dreams of a king. They often gave a ruler information about the direction of their kingdom. But if the dream was unclear, or the king was uncertain about what a dream meant, he may be unprepared for the event that was coming. That's where king Nebuchadnezzar finds himself this week. He has dreamed dreams that he doesn't understand. And let's face it, what does a giant statue made of gold, silver, bronze, iron and clay mean? Remember last week where God gave Daniel special blessings in the area of understanding dreams and interpreting them? Hmmmm. Wonder how that plays out this week in Daniel Chapter 2? Ep 132. Daniel Chapter 1: An introduction to life in Babylon (Women's Bible Study)
The first wave of captives tread their soles on Babylonian soil this week in Daniel chapter 1, and they are made aware of what this new life will bring in the first couple of years. First, they'll be given the best education. They'll eat the very same food the king eats. They'll be called by new names. But Daniel does some negotiating and brokers what the captain of the eunuchs believes is a bad deal....but he has a soft heart toward Daniel (wonder how that happened??) so he goes along with it for 10 days. Did you read to find out how it turns out? Daniel and his three Jewish friends are given new names to remind them where their new loyalties should lie, but they already have really, REALLY good names, and we talk about them. And we see in the end that the new names aren't as potent as they're portrayed. And finally, we see a parallel between Daniel and someone we've already studied. Do you know before you listen? This is a great introductory episode setting us up for things to come. I can't hardly wait! Ep 128. BONUS EPISODE: The Conversion of Saul (Women's Bible Study)
Welcome to the first BONUS EPISODE of our Winter Program where we will take a closer look at the conversion of Saul. In the book of Acts, Luke recounts the story three times, and repetition means something in the Bible, so what is Luke trying to get at? Where is he trying to lead us? Why is THIS conversion so important Luke thought it was necessary to tell the story three different times? We'll break it all down in this episode. I hope you enjoy it, and please, share it with a friend. Ep 127. The Letter of Jude: Called, Beloved, Kept (Women's Bible Study)
It's another one week Bible study this week as we look at the letter from Jude. Jude writes to an unspecified church, but he's specific in the audience he's targeting: those who are called, beloved and kept by God the Father for Christ Jesus. He writes them to plead with them to contend for the true faith that has been handed down once for all to the saints. His explanation of why this is necessary? Unknown to the believers, false teachers have crept in and begun to distort the gospel, to pervert the grace of God into something carnal, and they are trying to lead believers astray. Jude cuts a path through the Old Testament to link God's past judgement to a coming judgement for these ungodly false teachers. He finally ends his letter by telling his audience HOW they are to contend for this most holy faith. Every lesson Jude teaches is applicable to us today. We must learn to be discerning and recognize the false teachers that surround us, and we must learn to contend for the true faith that was handed down once for all to the saints. Ep 126. BONUS SERIES - Ask the Pastor: EXPOSITORY PREACHING- Why don't more pastors practice this helpful tool?
Oh, I'm not sure how I feel about posting this last episode of our Bonus Series. Of course, I'm happy to have done this series, I thouroughly enjoyed it, and I believe you all did as well, but it's a little sad that it has to come to an end. In our final episode, my senior pastor Joshua York takes a gander about why more pastors don't utilize the tool of expository preaching. First, Joshua defines expository preaching, then he contrasts it with topical preaching. He then gives his best educated guess as to why more pastors don't practice this method of preaching, and he wraps up the discussion with the benefits of expository preaching, and why it nurtures a healthy church. Then if you hang around to the very end (and I hope you do), I have a little fun and do a "lightening round" of fun questions for Joshua. Do you know what Joshua's favorite junk food is? Did you know his taste in music is quite diverse? Can you guess what he has on his play list for long road trips back to Texas? Is there a book of the Bible he finds especially challenging? And find out what two books Joshua would really love to preach through, and hear what's holding him back from tackling them on Sunday mornings. Enjoy this final episode of our bonus series. Ep 125. Prepisode for Jude: (Women's Bible Study)
We are getting ready for our second week of Winter Programming with a one week study on the Letter of Jude. Jude is ONE CHAPTER, 25 VERSES, and about a 4 minute read. Jude encourages his readers to "contend for the faith," and spend a good deal of his letter explaining why this is necessary. It 's a warning we should pay attention to and heed even today. This episode provides some things to ask yourself, look for, and think about as you read. Ep 124. Paul's Letter to Philemon: (Women's Bible Study)
It's one and done this week in our Bible Study for Women. We read the book of Philemon, the short little letter that packs a walloping punch! Paul is appealing to his friend Philemon on behalf of Paul's son in the faith, Onesimus. Paul crafts a letter that is personal, challenging, and optimistic, giving Philemon the choice to do the right thing and reconcile with Onesimus, instead of commanding him with legit apostolic authority. Paul is confident that Philemon's character will hold up and that Christ's transformative love will reach Philemon even in this delicate situation. Ep 123. BONUS SERIES - Ask the Pastor: Will Christians go through the TRIBULATION? (Women's BIble Study)
Oh my, what a great question we have today for our Bonus Series, Ask the Pastor, It's a question I'd be willing to bet you've asked before, or you've been asked before: Will Christians go through the tribulation? Joshua York explains his view on this question, and gives grace to Christians who believe differently. He talks about two primary views on "tribulation," one from the angle of dispensationalism (which is the type of church I grew up in), which interprets the apocalyptic literature of the Bible literally. This view gained traction back in the early 1900s with the publishing of the Scofield Study Bible (my mom had this Bible) and enjoyed immense popularity with the Left Behind series in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The other angle, covenant theology, interprets apocalyptic literature much more symbolically. Joshua fleshes out these two arguments and explains why he believes one is more scripturally accurate. Here is the sermon he references in the episode, "The Hope of His Coming": https://youtu.be/rgo5vOafDIY For a little extra for no charge, follow She Walks Worthy Podcast on Facebook or Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566142198837 SheWalksWorthyPodcast (@shewalksworthypodcast) • Instagram photos and videos If you'd like to continue this conversation, or if you want to submit a question for a future Ask The Pastor series, reach out to me on these social medial platforms, or email me at [email protected] Follow along for Women's Bible Study or Bible Study for Women (however you prefer to say it!), Beginners Bible Study, Teen Bible Study, Bible Study for New Christians, Busy Mom's Bible Study, Working Woman Bible Study, Mature Christian Bible Study, Christians and the Tribulation | Dispensationalism Bible Definition | Covenant Theology | Scofield Study Bible | 7 year tribulation | Dispensationalism vs Covenant Theology

Ep 122. Prepisode for Philemon: Paul's heartfelt appeal (Women's Bible Study)
Y'all I am super excited for this week. We are moving into our winter program and for the next two weeks we will look at the two books of the New Testament which stand alone with just ONE CHAPTER!! This week is the book of Philemon. This is a deeply personal letter from the apostle Paul to his friend, with an important request. Paul follows an ancient Greek and Roman philosophy formula designed in three steps for maximum acquiescence: 1) Build rapport with your audience 2) Pursuade them that your request is legitimate 3) Target the emotions As you read this week, consider how Paul implements each of these steps while forming his appeal to Philemon. Join me next week for the full discussion of this beautiful letter. Ep 121. Acts Chapters 27-28: Paul's Voyage to Rome (Women's Bible Study)
Today is an exciting day (I say with a tear in my eye) as we finish the Book of Acts in our Women's Bible Study, It's a tale of swashbuckling adventure as Luke writes an EPIC narrative that rivals any shipwreck story we can think of. Luke also encourages us to think about another stormy adventure we find in the Old Testament, and see the God who is in complete control over both stories, as he delivers his servants to their destinations.
