As a speaker, model, and content creator, I now use my personal stories of invisible illness — bulimia, Lyme Disease, and depression — to help women wake up from a life on autopilot and unapologetically go after their desires. Banishing Burnout P1: Why the Next Wave of the Pandemic Might Be Burnout

For the next few weeks, I am going to be releasing a series of short learning episodes from my Banishing Burnout series. I encourage you to listen to them as they come out, because small chunks is really the best way to internalize this content. They don’t necessarily have to be consumed in order, but some of it may not entirely make sense out of order. If you prefer to receive this information in video or article format, the details for other versions can be found in the show notes. Today’s episode is Part 1. I will be explaining what burnout is and why it just might be the next wave of the pandemic. Video format: https://youtu.be/rQ4xqTE5oGs Article format: https://medium.com/@sisu_journey/why-the-next-wave-of-the-pandemic-might-be-burnout-2a6fabf4057 This material is part of a course (under development) called Banishing Burnout: What They Forgot to Teach Us. Banishing Burnout: Latest Update from SISU Journey

Hello listeners, Helena Lucia here from SISU Journey. I wanted to pop in with an update since it’s been a while since you heard from me. First of all, I want to say Happy Indigenous People’s Day. This year, I am donating to an organization called Medicine Wheels. This organization is helping to support the current mental health crisis by supporting people and their connection to indigenous lands. I will put the link to Medicine Wheels as well as some other causes below, in case you feel inclined to join me.  We are coming back with more science and stories of resilience in January 2022. We currently paused on releasing new episodes while we find the right people to maximize the impact of each story. Accessibility is part of our values, and we want to utilize multiple media formats to make our content as available as possible, including transcripts, blog posts, video content and clips, and audio content and clips. In order to accomplish this goal, we need a little more support than our current team can handle so we are actively looking for someone and building a process to get that done. I’m looking forward to sharing more amazing stories with you just as soon as we are ready! Lastly, my focus as we go into 2022 is supporting people through the experience of burnout. My talk entitled Banishing Burnout: What They Forgot to Teach Us, is focused on the way we are culturally socialized to live our lives as an amalgamation of other people’s ideas instead of listening to our body's innate wisdom and intuition. The message is packed with concrete tools leveraging neuroscience, polyvagal nervous system work, and subconscious reprogramming to really tune into your best, most juicy life and gently begin to extract yourself from the treadmill that is causing burnout. I am developing a companion course that goes with the talk, which will be available in early December for only $25 at sisujourney.com. I have also opened up space for a four-hour 1:1 intensive that I am calling burnout audit. This is the first 1:1 offering I’ve done in a while. Details on that transformational experience can be found at sisujourney.com/burnout-audit. Additionally, there will be group offerings and workshops in 2022 applying these concepts to relationships with money, creativity, your business, your sexuality, etc, so make sure you sign up for our mailing list so you will be the first to know the latest. I know the holidays can be a challenge, and I do encourage you to protect your energy this season. Give yourself a lot of grace and space to grieve and feel and move and experience. Sending you all lots of love and support, and I will see you in 2022. Have a resilient holiday season.   Medicine Wheels Other causes to support SISU Journey Burnout Audit   This is a public episode. Season 2 Episode 18 Jeff Le: Standing Against Asian Hate and For the Afghan People

Today we are talking with Jeff Le. Today’s episode is a long one. Normally, I would break this out into two episodes, but I decided to give these critical and timely topics the respect they deserve, to release this episode in its entirety and let you listen to it at your leisure. I want to thank Jeff for joining me on the show and sharing his rich insight and experience with us today. In this episode of the SISU Journey podcast, Jeff Le talks about his incredible story of resilience in the face of discrimination. He shares just how important it is to have conversations about standing against Asian hate. Stay tuned! Here are the things to expect in this episode: People treat you based on what they think your perceived value is. Racism is not an innate thing, rather it’s a learned thing that comes from somewhere. How he went from not owning a coat to working and traveling to about 85 countries. People who have the least always give the most. It’s hard being in politics as an Asian American. Having a rank doesn't protect you from who you are if you are inherently treated as less there. It’s important to have an engaged citizenry, which is really hard in a time where people don't talk to others and just stay in their little corners. Horrible things happen when good people decide not to do something. If you speak with clarity and honesty, people will take it seriously. What are some things we can do to support the Afghan people? And much more! - About Jeff Le: Pronouns: He/Him Jeff Le has had a career at the highest levels of public policy and politics at the state, federal and international levels. A recognized thought leader in political advocacy and representation, his analysis and opinions have been featured on MSNBC, broadcast television in 40 states, as well as in print at POLITICO Magazine, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, FOX News, The Hill, Washingtonian, Roll Call, Bustle, Forbes, local and regional newspapers in 35 states. During the height of the #StopAsianHate movement, Jeff penned an opinion piece that received national attention in POLITICO Magazine called I Thought I Knew How to Succeed as an Asian in U.S. Politics. Boy, Was I Wrong. that highlighted his experiences in workplace discrimination in politics and racism throughout his life. Jeff is now an executive leader in technology where he is Vice President of Public Policy and External Affairs for Rhino, a fintech startup working to give renters everywhere greater financial freedom through affordable insurance options. Seija/Jack: Finding Roots with SISU

Seija Sisko Rohkea [Instagram: @seijack49], also known as Jack, is a 56-year-old female born human with an identity that never matched their internal sense of self. Jack has battled alcoholism, self-mutilation, sexual abuse and homelessness. Jack is a high school drop-out, a teenage runaway and is an immigrant from Finland adopted into an American family who they divorced them self from completely. But that was then. At the age of 35, Jack began attending community college and shortly thereafter got sober – 13 years later, Jack earned a Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in museum studies. Since then, they have enjoyed the world of art as it pertains to representing human experiences that spans topics from social injustices to personal identities. Who is Jack today? Jack is a human having adult experiences due to recently coming out to family and friends as non-binary. The journey has been arduous, rewarding and humbling, sometimes all rolled into one (no wonder their past was filled with such angst). Today, Jack is an art historian, a college professor, a social activist who is currently focusing on removing the Eurocentric lens through which art history is taught in college to bringing awareness for a safe environment for trans and non-binary students on college campuses where they currently teach. A full life with purpose is worth living – it takes SISU to continue moving forward and that term is sewn on Jacks skin and permeates every fiber within – SISU has enabled Jack to continue on a journey that only those who battle similar circumstances can understand. Emily: When Teachers Harm

Emily spent her life enjoying the outdoors in the Bay Area and in the San Juan Islands, but a few things that had happened in her life made her vulnerable to the grooming of her high school teacher. Emily found herself at a young age trapped in the relationship with her teacher, which ultimately led to body image trauma and years of disordered eating. Eventually, Emily found her voice, academic and career success, and a way out of all her pain. Through psychedelic journeys and a legal battle, she took her power back and was able to access compassion for herself and others. Emily was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area where she grew up loving sports and the outdoors. She also spent a lot of her childhood in the San Juan Islands, Washington, where her father lived, enjoying sailing and more outdoors.  As a teenager in the early ’90’s she became a leader and a role model in her quiet suburban community when she came out at the age of 15 and started the first gay-straight alliance at her high school. She went on to become a veterinarian, and currently lives in Portland, Oregon. She has a love for science, writing, exploration of the mind, and spending as much time in the woods as possible.    Emily was very gracious to share her story with us in such a vulnerable way. We decided to remove names from the story to make this container a little more safe for her to share. Please consider supporting this podcast. This is a public episode.
