#173 | Laila Aitken Ali
Today's podcast is all about Laila Aitken Ali. In her own words: "My story began with a ten-year divorce that unraveled everything: my identity, my confidence, my sense of safety. I was pregnant, heartbroken, and standing in the rubble of a life that no longer made sense. I knew how to function, to plan, organize, hold it together, but I didn't know how to feel safe in my own body again. Every text from my ex sent my nervous system into overdrive. Every decision felt loaded. And the people around me, though loving and well-intentioned, couldn't understand what it meant to look strong while silently falling apart inside. So I learned. I learned how to regulate my body, how to separate strategy from emotion, and how to rebuild a life rooted in peace instead of panic. And once I did, I couldn't help but teach it. Now, with over a decade of experience supporting individuals and families through divorce and major life transitions, I've guided hundreds of clients toward emotional steadiness, confident communication, and clear decision-making. As a Certified Divorce Coach®, Accredited Mediator, and Communication Strategist, my work blends lived experience with professional training — helping people not only navigate the practical side of divorce but also rebuild the relationship they have with themselves." With an ever-changing landscape leaving many fashion houses feeling the financial strain of the economy, Charlotte's voice and feedback is aimed at helping them reach more buyers. #162 | Peter Crosby
Today's podcast is all about Peter Crosby. Peter's photojournalism, video adventures, and radio reporting have been broadcast on National Geographic TV, NPR's Radio Expeditions, and Christian Science Monitor Radio, as well as published in Asian Wall Street Journal, Asia Week, Los Angeles Times, Intersect, Tokyo Journal, National Geographic Traveler, and the in-flight magazines of ANA, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, American and United airlines. In 2021, Peter bicycled from Beijing to Hong Kong – again – following the same route as his original 1994 cycling journey for NGTV's program Explorer. Now his new 4-part documentary TV series "Cycling Across China with Peter Crosby" is airing on China Global Television Network (CGTN), Bytedance Videos, and broadcast on National Geographic TV/Asia, for which he was Exec. Producer, Co-Director, Photographer, and Host. Watching America from afar, Peter was again struck by the Chinese name for the USA: 美国 (měi guó) meaning 'beautiful country.' Peter found his 2021 return to America alarming and sad; Covid's toll, mass shootings, ongoing racism, fear of China, even an insurrection. The USA no longer felt like home. So in 2022, he bought a van and traveled through the heartland of America reacquainting himself with his homeland and recording local life. From our nation's East Coast founding to our Civil War, from 9/11 memorials to the transcontinental railroad, he filmed heated arguments, protesting 18-wheel drivers, motorcycle rallies, and the singing of 'Amazing Grace' with evangelicals in Georgia. Dragon boating with Chinese-Americans, filming Native America rodeos, even biking through forest-fire smog, Peter strove to create dialogue and empathy with those he didn't quite understand. He found commonality in wanting to belong to communities with some kind of mission, whether spiritual, political, sporting, our families or friends. We all just want our tribe. Born in the USA, Peter has visited 70+ countries and lived/worked in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Southern Africa. So he can make people laugh in several languages. He's also led for-profit, nonprofit, and social benefit organizations as a CEO/COO/CTO in media, translations, women's empowerment, and international refugee aid. Peter considers himself a Man of Mission: global vision, local lifestyles, universal heart. To learn more about Peter: https://www.youtube.com/@pscrosby

#149 | Sam Kelly
Today's podcast is all about Sam Kelly. He was born and raised in Los Angeles. He has been obsessed with history since he was very young. Sam is on the autism spectrum. When he's interested in something, he really digs into it. He is incapable of browsing casually, instead he develops an almost physical compulsion to know everything there is to know on a subject. As a result, he spends hours every day looking stuff up, going on tangents, and uncovering every last stubborn detail. He studied history at Stanford University, but that's putting it mildly. He gobbled up history courses like Pac-Man eats ghosts. By the time he graduated, he had lived in three foreign countries (England, Italy, and Germany) to better immerse himself in world history, and had studied under the tutelage of some of Stanford's most esteemed history scholars. Determined to share his love of bizarre little-known historical facts, he started a TikTok. His account is @human_history_on_durgs, where his followers listen to him tell wild (but entirely true) stories about famous people in history who used drugs – aka the stuff you won't learn in school. He recently started cross-posting on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. To learn more about Sam: https://www.instagram.com/human_history_on_drugs
