Seeing tennis through a new lens - the psychology behind being a tennis player

A surprise episode! And an exciting one at that…Today I return with a classic solo episode, just off the back of capturing content for the ITF World Tennis Tour in Roehampton!I got to attend the W50 at London’s own NTC, capturing content for the socials, interviewing the players, and getting ideas for articles. What I didn’t entirely expect was the extent to which I’d get a blast from the past; being back in that environment and speaking to the players… we touch on the reality of being a tennis player, the highs, the lows, and how it moulds you as a person. The tolerance, curiosity and respect tennis encourages is one I hope a wider proportion of society can learn from. Hopefully it’s something that encourages you, the listener, to give a go at the sport too.

In today’s episode, we get to hear Professor Robert Ford’s take on Hannah Spencer’s historic Gorton and Denton by-election win for the Greens. What does this mean not only for present-day politics, but for what is to come? We discuss voting behaviour and demand, a changing tide in politics and consider what the future might hold. Plus, I give my own take on the by-election and Hannah Spencer’s win signified in my eyes.

Behind the Scenes of London Fashion Week

After hours of editing and late nights up to 1am, the episode is finally here: behind the scenes at London Fashion Week! Yay!—This honestly felt like a full-on production, but the reason it took so long to make was because I wanted to make sure it was perfect, that the editing and audio was right, and have any extra snippets ready to share with everyone! The editing, promoting on socials, thumbnails, emails, recording and more meant many hours going over and over the edits and a few late nights, but I’m so proud of how it’s turned out. Balancing a whole podcast alongside full-time education is no easy feat, and having the wonderful Tilly helping to record some snippets and edit the trailer video at the weekend already did wonders of help. Moving forward I’ll keep to some short form content on the Instagram whilst I finish my dissertation and essays, but definitely going to be looking at building a bigger team around this passion project of mine - I don’t think socials, production, editing and planning is a one-man job… is this finally enough experience for jobs on my CV? 🤣 —I cannot express enough how much I’ve enjoyed working on this project, and how much it has inspired me to continue doing projects like this, both within and beyond the world of fashion. To continue cultural conversations and insights, and encourage positive, diverse and insightful topics to be spoken about.—As always very grateful to Flair Fashion for the invite to their show, to Adam Raillard for the interview as well as Belsize, and, of course, to the wonderful Tilly Snaith for helping me over the weekend. —An unforgettable experience and another to add to this journey of learning. For now, please enjoy the episode, share with a friend, an get a front row seat at London Fashion Week!—Remember to follow me on Instagram: @ burekmila or @ behindthescenesjournal—#londonfashionweek #journalism #startup #podcast #behindthescenes

What is running really for? Ft. Runna coach and founder of Mafia Moves Andre Coggins

We all know running has had a major surge in popularity over the last couple of years, but it’s also more than just a trend. This week, we get to hear Andre Coggins’, coach of Runna and founder of running community Mafia Moves, take on what running has done for him. Andre has not only achieved incredible heights, running marathons and coaching people along the way, but he’s creating community, he’s sharing his story, and he’s representing the underrepresented. It’s a conversation about adventure, community, and appreciating what your body can do for you - something we all need to be reminded of. We talk about what it means to be runner and how there’s no one blueprint for the ‘perfect’ runner. We touch on Andre’s top tips for getting into it, enjoying it, staying consistent… give it a listen, and hear about how running is more than just running.

Listen to this if you’re struggling to feel grateful right now: how to date yourself

The colder months are gradually wrapping themselves around us, and while it is a season of cosy films, festivities and warm, hot drinks, it can also be a time that brings its challenges. If you’re finding it difficult to find things to be grateful for at the moment, this could be just the episode you need right now.Gratitude is one of the most important things in life, I believe. It helps us appreciate things, it helps us keep moving forward, and it reminds us, even in our hardest moments, that there is always something to keep us going. It’s a way to romanticise your life, and love spending time with yourself and in your community, so, with that being said, maybe grab a little notepad and pen, and jot down a couple things you hear today that you might find helpful! Whether it’s ways to practice gratitude, prompts for learning to ‘date yourself’ or how to connect with your community - this one is all about the positive vibes. Sending love!

Is solo travel worth it? Ft. Catalina

Solo travelling… it’s something you hear about so much but often find yourself ‘umming’ and ‘ahhing’ about. It looks cool but, can I do it? Where do I get the funds? Is it worth it? Today, with special guest Cat, we answer these kinds of questions and more, as she gives us her insight into the importance of exploration, travelling and the impact it has had on her life. I touch on my solo travels in Italy, but we also give advice for female safety, and learning about the culture of where you are visiting. Maybe this will be your sign to book that flight.

Multiculturalism and its importance in society

It’s solo episode time! In today’s episode I delve into one of my biggest passions: multiculturalism. It’s something I love to ramble on about, something I’ve been researching, reading and talking about all summer, and what I discussed in my first episode of this podcast’s relaunch. Here, I all about how multiculturalism as a concept is fundamental and integral to society, and how without it, we have little else. How diversity is something to be embraced, celebrated, championed, rather than used as a tool for hierarchy. Enjoy! #multiculturalism #politics #nationalism

The truth behind study abroad, ft. Delyth and Jacob

Is a year abroad worth it? Well, today I have your answer. Student guests Delth and Jacob give their respective takes on their years abroad in this episode, both spending a year in France but doing completely different things. While Jacob got to experience student-life in another country, Delyth went the occupational route, finding herself behind the teacher’s desk for a change, instead of in front. We get to hear their advice on preparing, what to expect, the highs and lows and so much more. Maybe this episode won’t tell you what you should or should not do, but it’ll give you a better picture of what you can expect, how to make the most of it, and, if you have the opportunity, just go for it!

Healing Beauty, ep.3: why do you go to uni?

This is a question I ask myself a lot, and it’s a really interesting question… but I think, even more interestingly, is wondering why others go to uni? What is the difference in reasoning behind Laura who wants to be a vet, versus Samuel who wants to be in PR? Is there a right way to do university? Are we losing sight of its purpose or is the reason people go to uni simply evolving and shaping the ‘uni life’ into something different: a unique and personal experience for each student. In today’s episode, I delve into all of this and talk about my own reflections on what I have been, and am, getting out of uni so far.#spotify #podcast #university #chatty #student #journalism #studentjournalist
