    Episode 48-The Crow (1994)

Eric Draven and his fiancé Shelly are murdered on Devil's Night. One year later, a mystical crow (or raven actually) brings Eric back as he becomes an avenging angel, hunting the freaks responsible that fateful night. Based on a dark, gritty comic book from James O'Barr, who'd recently lost his fiancé, The Crow seemed like it might be just another adaption thriller by a major studio. However, tragedy struck when up and coming lead actor Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, was killed in a horrible on-set accident. Funding AND Paramount pulled out and the film wound up at Miramax. However despite the infamy surrounding the film, The Crow became a hit and subsequently has earned a massive cult following, pushed goth culture to the forefront and spawned 4 sequels, novels and a TV show. Episode 43-Pieces (1982)

1974: the world was shocked by the brutality of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 1980: the world is enamored with the slasher with Friday the 13th. So what do you get when you combine those two? 1982's Spanish-American slasher/giallio Pieces, a movie that put gore at the forefront long before Saw. Someone is carving up co-ed girls on campus with a large chainsaw and stealing body parts and it's up to Lt. Bracken to stop this maniac. But it won't be easy: the killer knows when to strike and where without police intervention. Along with his partner Sgt. Holden, pro-tennis player turned cop Mary Riggs and campus stud Kendall, Bracken must figure out who is building a human jigsaw before they complete their objective. Does this film deserve its cult following? Why the hell does Bracken deputize Kendall who should be a suspect? Is Lucas enamored with Willard for his WWE approach with cops? Join us at CinaCult as we butcher our way through this hidden gem of 80's horror!

    Episode 42-Street Fighter (1994)

GAME OVER! We are BACK listeners with a redo of a "lost episode" with this weeks review of 1994's Street Fighter- a movie that should have worked considering it's casting but failed to impress audience's upon release. When the evil mad M. Bison (Raul Julia of Addams Family fame) kidnaps hostages and demands a 20 billion ransom for their return, the world looks to Col. Guile (Jean Claude Van Damme) and his second in command Cammie (Kylie Minogue) to save them. Meanwhile Chun-Li (Ming-Na Wen) and her crew Balrog and Honda attempt to find Bison for Li's revenge while con men Ken and Ryu run afoul of Bison's arms-dealer Sagat (Wes Studi) and his man Vega. Can our heroes overcome their different goals and work together to bring down Bison and his cohorts? Does this movie deserve its reputation as "worst movie ever?" Why the hell did the Hulk show up in a Street Fighter movie? Join Lucas and Cordell as we use our "hadoken" on this 90's cult classic.

  25. 40

    Episode 41-Prom Night (1980)

Note* I wasn't aware of quality in which my microphone was working so at time I come off very hard to understand. I deeply apologize for this* 1980 was truly the beginning of the slasher genre. With Friday the 13th dominating the box office, other filmmakers were quick to realize there was money to be made in cheap low budget horror. Which brings us to tonights discussion of Prom Night starring Jamie Lee Curtis coming off the success of Halloween. When a tragic accident leaves a young girl dead, 4 friends decide to keep their role quiet. 6 years later however a mysterious killer who knows their guilt stalks them as they prepare for the school prom night. Who is this masked maniac? IS the subplot about an escaped pedophile just pointless filler? Why is this film so damned long? Could this be the best Jamie Lee has ever looked in a horror film? Join Cordell and Lucas today as we dance through this 80's slasher classic. Music- "Prom Night" by Paul Zaza and Gordon Simpson

  26. 39

    Episode 39-Spawn (1997)

We're back folks with a Lucas pick this time! We're talking Spawn from 1997: the film that probably should have ended toy collecting maker Todd McFarlen's career quite honestly... When Al Simmons is betrayed, he strikes a deal with Hell ruler Malbolgia to avenge his name in return for leading Hell's army. But things don't go exactly smooth for Al as he comes to grips with his new destiny as a Hellspawn. When faced with the reality of what his purpose will do, Al must decide if he shall give in to Hell's wishes or become a guardian of justice while taking down old boss Jason Wynn and Malgolgia's lieutenant The Violator (John Liguizamo). How does this rank in the pantheon of comic books films? Does it deserve its reputation as a god awful train wreck? Why is Lucas laughing at Cordell's suffering and disdain for this movie? Listen now as we violate this questionable piece of comic book cinema history and send it straight to Hell where it belongs....yay.

    Episode 35-Scream 3 (2000)

Before the story continued almost a decade later, Sidney Prescott's story was meant to end in the bookended Scream 3 released in 2000. Along with Gale, Dewey, Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) and the Stab 3 cast, Sidney comes face to face with the truth behind her mother's troubling legacy in what is considered the weakest of the Scream films. But do our host's feel that way? Did the Columbine School Massacre prevent this film from reaching its full potential? How well does this story hold up in continuity to the first two? Was Jamie Kennedy's post-mortem return necessary? How well does this film relate in light of Harvey Wienstien's Hollywood sex crimes? Episode 34-Repossessed (1990)

Parody is the ultimate form of flattery and in 1990, Leslie Neilson gave flattery to cinema's most profound demonic possession film The Exorcist with 1990's horror spoof Repossessed When Nancy Aglet (Linda Blair) is repossessed by Satan, she enlists of the help of Father Luke Brophy (Anthony Stark) and Father Jebadiah Mayi (Leslie Neilson) to rid her of the Prince of Darkness. But as the Fathers prepare to do battle with ancient evil, a scheming televangelist (Ned Beatty) wants to use Nancy for a televised exorcism and get rich doing it. Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson's Scream was a box office hit in 1996 so a sequel was never in doubt. A sequel which happened to hit the following year in the form of Scream 2. It's been two years since the Woodsboro Massacre and Sidney and Randy are now in Windsor College hoping to put the past behind them. But a copycat Ghostface killer begins targeting students and harassing Sidney. With new suspects and old friends in the form of Gale and Dewey, the clock is ticking to find the psycho before they can complete their sequel. Does this movie hold a candle to the original? Does Randy's rules of a sequel apply to this installment? Join Lucas and Cordell as we give our class lecture in our continuation of the Scream franchise. Was this movie unfairly butchered by the MPAA? Does Kane Hodder give his best performance in his opening Jason career? Is Melissa a bitch because everyone thought her actress was dead for nearly two decades? Join Lucas and Cordell as we talk some New Blood! Episode 29-Scream (1996)

How do you make horror great again when Michael joins a cult, Freddy makes NES puns and Jason goes to hell? You Scream! The box office hit child of Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven revitalized the slasher concept while honoring and satirizing the cliches in this 1996 horror classic. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) isn't having a great time. The one year anniversary of her mother's murder is approaching, her bf Billy (Skeet Ulrich) is horny and a masked killer obsessed with horror movies is killing off her classmates and targeting her. Her friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) tries to cheer her up and Tatum's police brother Dewey (David Arquette) tries to protect her. Can Sidney survive the murderous trivia of Ghostface? Could her friends Randy (Jamie Kennedy) or Stu (Mathew Lillard) be the killer? What about bitchy sensationalist reporter Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox)? Join Cordell and Lucas as we take a STAB at one of Hollywood's most beloved scary movie classics!

    Episode 28: Maniac Cop (1988)

The 80's was the decade of horror from slashers, to werewolves and zombies. Michael Myers, Freddy and Jason ruled the big screens. But by the end of the decade, slashers were being replaced by thrillers and schlocky low budget and seemed worn out. That didn't stop cult filmmaker William Lustig, who shocked audience's with 1980's Maniac to team up with Larry Cohen for 1988's Maniac Cop! When a silent killer in blue targets the innocent of NYC, fear grips hold as police try to apprehend this "Maniac Cop" Investigating is Det. McCrae (Tom Atkins) who believes accused cop Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) is being set up. Together with Officer Mallory (Laurene Landon), they set out to stop a killer hellbent on revenge with a tragic connection of corruption and betrayal. Can they stop him? Episode 27: House of the Dead (2003)

Uwe Boll sucks D!CK! That is the feeling of many a video gamers and film fans who have been subjected to this man's filmography. But before he got his hands on beloved titles like BloodRayne, Far Cry or Postal, Uwe showed us just how incapable he was in 2003's zombie flick House of the Dead based on the cult 90's Sega rails shooter! When a group of friends join Rudy on an island rave, they find themselves in a survival struggle against hoards of ravenous zombies. Helped by Coast Guard boss Casper (Ellie Cornell of Halloween 4) and smuggler Kirk (Jürgen Prochnow) the group must survive and uncover the secrets of the House of the Dead and its immortal voodoo priest Castillo Sermano Can Rudy and ex gf Alicia survive? What is with the monologue in this movie? Does this movie even deserve a second glance? Join Cordell and Lucas as we tear the flesh off House of the Dead! Episode 26- The Town that Dreaded Sundown (2014)

By the late 2000's, horror remakes (not a new phenomenon but not common) were becoming insanely popular with titles like Halloween, The Fog, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Prom Night all receiving new life in cinemas between 2005 and 2010. However hardly anyone thought that a forgotten Charles B. Peirce 1976 slasher would ever warrant such attention but that is what Blumhouse (in one of their first major projects) did in 2014 with their pseudo remake/sequel The Town that Dreaded Sundown (confusing right?) Young woman Jami finds herself caught up in the dark history of Texarkana when someone dressed as the infamous "Phantom Killer" begins killing couples across the city. Goaded to "make them remember" after being attacked herself, she begins a personal investigation into the history of the town, the 1946 Moonlight Murders and the Phantom to uncover who is killing and cosplaying after hours. Did this remake do the original justice? Can Jami uncover the unknown secrets of the Phantom? Why the hell did this town treat her so horribly after her attack? Join Cordell and Lucas as we head back to Texarkana: the town that dreads sundown. Music is "The Town that Dreaded Sundown" by The Bloody Hammers.

    Episode 25- Spaceballs (1987)

Mel Brooks is the undisputed master of parody. The man has tackled all the genres from horror (Dracula: Dead & Loving It, Young Frankenstein) to westerns and fantasy/medieval (Blazing Saddles, History of the World, Robin Hood:Men in Tights) so it made sense in 1987 when he tackles the sci-fi classics of Aliens, Star Wars, Star Trek etc. with SPACEBALLS! The nefarious Spaceballs led by President Skroob (Mel Brooks) and his two trusted enforcers Colonel Sanders and Dark Helmet (Rick Morranis) are planning to steal 10,000 years of fresh air from their neighbor Planet Druidia by kidnapping the spoiled Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and her droid of honor Dot Matrix (Joan Rivers). However, when King Roland enlists the help of Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his "mawg" sidekick Barf (John Candy), things get wacky as they dodge the Spaceballs, learn the Schwartz from Yogurt (also played by Mel Brooks) and stop the bad guys from stealing Druidia's breath away. Does this comedy treasure hold up in the 21st century? Why isn't Pizza the Hutt a Pizza Hut mascot? Is Cordell too much of a fan of this film? Join him and Lucas as we laugh our way through this 80's classic. Music "Spaceballs" by The Spinners. All rights reserved.

    Episode 24-The Prowler (1981)

In 1978, Halloween showed slashers could be successful. In 1980, films like Friday the 13th, Maniac, Prom Night and Terror Train proved there was an audience who thirsted for the bloodlust of the masked maniac. But 1981 was the boom of the slasher craze giving us classic gems like My Bloody Valentine, Halloween ll, The Burning and Happy Birthday to Me. But there is one that stands out among the crowd, labeled as one of the most violent and bloody of the early slashers: 1981's The Prowler! Directed by Joseph Zito before his Friday the 13th fame, the film opens in 1945, where a young woman named Rosemary is brutally murdered with her bf by a man in WW2 combat fatigues. 30 years later, the town is ready to hold another graduation dance. But as the night is young and boys and girls are getting ready for a night of booze, sex and out of control hormones, a man in WW2 gear reignites his murderous killing spree. Will there be anyone left to graduate? Who is the Prowler and why did he wait 30 years? Does this movie deserve the reputation it holds among slasher loyalists? Join Lucas and Cordell as we stalk our way through this blood drenched classic! Music: View Through a Tear by Nowherefast (The Prowler Soundtrack)

    Episode 23: Mr. Nanny-1993

The world of wrestling has given us many great icons over the past several decades and none were bigger than Hollywood Hulk Hogan! With his trademarked "Hulkamania!" and "Brother" catchphrase, Hogan brought the world of wrestling to life with rivals like Andre the Giant and the Iron Sheikh. In the 90's however, the Hulkster decided to get some acting chops in with films like Suburban Commando and today's film: 1993's family-comedy Mr. Nanny.  Burnt out wrestler Sean Armstrong is hired by negligent father Alex Mason (Sean Pendleton) to bodyguard his young children Alex Jr. (Robert Hy Gorman) and Kate (Madeline Zima). With his manager and pal Burt Wilson (Sherman Hemsley) Sean must avoid falling victim to the kid's Home Alone-esq boobytraps as they try send the muscle man packing. But when the crazed Tommy Thanatos (David Johansen) kidnaps Mr. Mason and the kids for the billion dollar missile defense chip Mason Sr. designed, Sean must jump into action to save the kids and bring this dysfunctional family back together. Does Hulk Hogan prove he's a film worthy action hero? Are these kids the real villains of the film? Why does Thanatos have the Axis of Evil henchmen? Join Lucas and Cordell as we babysit this forgotten gem.  Music: "Rough Stuff" by David Johansen. All rights belong to New Line Cinema.

Episode 21-Jason Goes to Hell-The Final Friday (1993)

Jason Voorhees is going to Hell! After the disappointing reception to Jason Takes Manhattan, Paramount decided to bid farewell to the iconic franchise and sold it to New Line Cinema, home of dream demon Freddy Kruguer. An effort was started to pit these two titans against each other but the Wes Craven came along wanting to make Wes Craven's New Nightmare so Sean Cunningham, absent since the original, decided to make Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. After being blown up by the FBI, Jason seems to be finally dead....but now he can possess people! Now hunting for his remaining blood relatives to be reborn, Jason must body hop and get kinky while being hunted by bounty hunter Creighton Duke (Steven William) and Steven (John d. LeMay) who must stop him before he gets to Steven's ex Jessica (Kari Keegan) and her newborn. Can the two men stop him? Is Jason secretly a fan of bondage? Who is everyone so quick to believe Steven is a killer? Join us this week for our review in Hell! Music is the Jason Goes to Hell Theme by Harry Manfredini. All Rights reserved.

Episode 20-Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

Welcome back and Happy Friday the 13th!  By 1989, the slasher genre was dying down after a successful decade of cinematic boogeymen hacking up our screens. However Paramount, home to hockey masked maniac Jason Voorhees, decided to change things up a bit after the success of Part VII:The New Blood, bringing us to tonight's review of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan! The premise should have worked: A resurrected Jason follows a group of Crystal Lakers to Manhattan, New York to find a bigger cesspool of bodies to drop. However upon release, the film was derided by critics and fans alike and Paramount, hoping to distance themselves from the slasher franchise altogether, sold the rights to New Line Cinemas, home of Freddy Krueger. How well does this movie hold up 34 years later? Did the constant budget cuts keep us from seeing director Rob Hedden's vision? Why the hell is Rennie's uncle such as jackass? And for the love of god why are there so many different kid Jasons?! Join Lucas and Cordell as we wade through the toxic waste to find out! Music: The Darkest Side of the Night by Metropolis. Episode 19-Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 (1987)

New Year! Good Point! Happy New Years! CinaCult wants to start off the year with a bang for everyone with a review of Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2! Picking up 8 years following the death of Billy Chapman in the first film, we find Billy's little brother Ricky (Eric Freeman) locked away in a sanitarium giving his life story to his doctor recounting (in a ridiculous amount of flashback) the events of the first film and then Ricky's life following Billy's death. It isn't long to realize Ricky is just as disturbed by Christmas as Billy was and is on his own path to become a demented Santa killer. Will Ricky become a maniac like Billy or will of love of a woman Jennifer (Elizabeth Kaitan) save him from that fate? Will we ever see Mother Superior get her comeuppance? Why is it so fun to yell "GARBAGE DAY!"? Join Lucas and Cordell this New Years Eve as we pass or trash this campy Christmas slasher! Music: Silent Night Deadly Night 2 Theme by Michael Armstrong.

Special Commemoration Episode-Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970)

Welcome back CinaCultites and today we are diverging from our usual formula to review the 1970 Japan-U.S. co-production Tora! Tora! Tora! to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Looking to recreate the success of their 60's star studded D-Day blockbuster The Longest Day, 20th Century Fox turned it attention to another monumental date in US history: December 7th 1941. Going all out with the effects, set design, props (even a brief relationship with famed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa) and available assets, it seemed like the makings for another potential hit. However the movie sank at the US box office (while becoming a major hit in Japan) with many critical of the film's "history class like focus on historical detail" and coupled with the nation's mood of the ongoing Vietnam War.  5 decades later however, the movie has been re-evaluated and lauded not only as a true war epic but as one of Hollywood's most faithful takes on history. Does this movie deserve the status of classic to films like A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day or Schindler's List? How does it compare to Michael Bay's 2001 Pearl Harbor? Could the attack really have been prevented? Join Lucas and Cordell as we examine and compare the events of the film to historical fact and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives on Sunday December 7th, 1941.  Music: Tora! Tora! Tora! Melody by Jerry Goldsmith.

    Episode 18-Die Hard (1988)

Merry Christmas! We are back with an exciting review of Die Hard-the movie the completely cuckholded action movies for the next decade! The 80's-a time of horror, action and gratuitous nudity....lots of big names too like Stallone and Schwarzenegger and...Willis? Coming late in the 80's action game, Die Hard seemed like a monumental flop starring TV's Moonlighting actor Bruce Willis as NYPD cop John McClane who's in L.A. to see his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and two children for the Christmas holidays. But when Holly's workplace, Nakatomi Corp, gets taken over by terrorists led by the calm and calculating Hans Gruber (Alan Ryckman), McClane finds himself thrusted into an explosive action packed adventure! Can McClane save the hostages and beat the bad guys? Why does Al Powell (Reginald ValJohnson) have so many Twinkies? Are the Japanese taking America over through an economic Pearl Harbor? Join Cordell and Lucas as we "yippie ky yay motherfucker" through this (debated) Christmas classic!  Dedicated in memory to actor Clarence Gilyard Jr. (Theo)  Rest In Peace sir.  Music is "Let it Snow" by Frank Sinatra. Episode 17-Under Siege 2: Dark Territory

Welcome Cinacultists! We're back, continuing our Steven Seagal fun with his follow up sequel to arguably his most successful film Under Siege. Taking place (when I have no damn clue) after the events of the first film, Casey Ryback is now a Denver restaurant cook who takes a vacation to see his niece Sarah (played by a young Katherine Heigl) after her father- Ryback's brother-and mother are killed in a tragic accident. While on a continential passenger train, they find themselves hostage by rouge US government genius Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian) and a mercenary team led by Marcus Penn (Everett McGill). Dane hijacks his satellite/weapon developed for the CIA and uses it to rack up cash and cause gleeful devastation.  Now armed with only his skills and wise cracking train porter Bobby Zachs (Morris Chestnut), Ryback must rescue his niece and the hostages and stop Dane from turning the Eastern seaboard into a radioactive waste zone.  Can Ryback pull off one more miracle? Why is Sarah so addicted to Navy Crosses? Do Penn and Dane one up Gary Busey and Tommy Lee? Why is Cordell drooling over the bartender Kelly played by Sandra Taylor? Join our hosts today as they venture into Dark Territory! Music: "Casey's Farewell/After the Train is Gone" by Basil Poledouris from the Under Siege 2 soundtrack! All Rights Reserved.

Hilarity ensures as the group must figure out how to banish Turkie before they find themselves on the basting block! Does this movie deserve the cult following its gained? Episode 15-Under Siege (1992)

Steven Seagal, like Chuck Norris, Jean Claude-Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, never quite managed to hit the level of stardom that Stallone or Schwarzenegger did in the 80's pantheon of action. After some successful B level hits of the time like Out for Justice and Above the Law, Seagal got his big hit in 1992's Under Siege!  Seagal is Casey Ryback, a Navy SEAL turned cook aboard the battleship USS Missouri. When a team of commandos led by disgruntled CIA agent William Strannix (Tommy Lee Jones) and turncoat Commander Krill (Gary Busey) take the ship over for its 32 nuclear Tomahawk missiles, Ryback must take back the ship and save his shipmates. Helping him is Playboy babe Jordan Tate (Erika Eleniak) who proves a woman can be just as badass as she is beautiful. Can Seagal pull off this "Die Hard on a boat" plot? Is Strannix really the bad guy? Who else wore out their VHS tape of Tate's topless cake tease? Join Cordell and Lucas as we review this movie under siege!  Music is "Main Theme" by Gary Chang from the Under Siege Soundtrack! All rights reserved.
