82. Bedtime Stories with Nicholas Fern ~ Heidi Arave
In this episode, I have a heartwarming conversation with Heidi Arave, the co-founder of Nicholas Fern, a company that has spent 20 years helping families preserve their stories in personalized, hardbound books. Heidi's passion for storytelling was ignited by her love for her grandparents, whose lives she wanted her children to know and appreciate. She explains how Nicholas Fern was born out of a desire to celebrate and honor the legacy of parents and grandparents, connecting families through shared stories. These narratives, captured in beautifully crafted books, not only teach valuable life lessons but also build confidence in those who read them. Heidi shares her insights on the importance of knowing and understanding your personal and family history. She discusses the process of putting together legacy packages, where cherished family stories are curated, published, and can even be captured in unique lockets that hold memories in a tangible form. From DIY options to the larger Legacy Project, which allows individuals to sponsor a senior, Heidi's work reaches out to families everywhere. Through this inspiring discussion, Heidi reveals how sharing family stories can profoundly impact both the storyteller and the listener, creating a lasting bond across generations. 81. Maximizing Your Community
Survival is not about being the fittest but the friendliest and we do that within our communities. These can be divided into three types: the Soul Community (our relationship with ourselves and a higher power), the Inner Community (close relationships with those who support and love us unconditionally), and the Extended Community (acquaintances and the broader population). Engaging authentically with these communities allows us to grow, gain insights, and develop meaningful relationships. To make the most of these interactions, we need to follow the Rules of Engagement: approach them with a growth mindset, be genuine, and avoid drama. Our Soul Community helps us connect with our core values and purpose. Our Inner Community provides support and honest feedback, while the Extended Community offers fresh perspectives and the chance to validate our values. By actively engaging with all three communities, we can create a balanced, fulfilling life and contribute positively to the lives of others.

80. Leveraging the Laws of Prosperity, Part II
Today I continue my exploration of the universal laws of prosperity, focusing on the last five of ten laws that, when understood and leveraged, can significantly enhance our lives. These include the Law of Rhythms, the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Gender & Gestation, the Law of Flow, and the Law of Abundance I have found that understanding the rules of success has given me a better perspective of and workable tools that help me to understand what’s going right – and wrong – in my life. I hope they can help you, too!!

79. Leveraging the Laws of Prosperity, Part I
In this episode, I dive into the first five of ten universal laws of success that can profoundly impact our lives. Much like gravity, these laws exist whether we acknowledge them or not. While simply obeying these laws can keep us from negative outcomes, their true power lies in leveraging them to our advantage. It’s up to us to learn about these laws and figure out how to use them to get what we want. I go through each of the laws, explain what it is, and then help you know how to actually use it. I’ll even give examples of this working in my own life! They’re incredible!!! I hope that as you apply them yourself you will be able to find they work for you, too! Stay tuned next week for the second set of laws! 78. Uninhibited Celebration
Celebrating is more than just marking moments of success; it’s about authentically honoring these moments without the hindrance of negative self-talk, comparison, or anger. By addressing these inhibitors—envy, pride, and grudges—we can embrace genuine celebration through responsibility and gratitude. Responsibility involves stepping out of a victim mindset and fully owning both our hardships and triumphs. When we take 100% ownership of our accomplishments, they become fully ours to celebrate. Gratitude, on the other hand, acknowledges the support and circumstances that have contributed to our successes. Combining responsibility and gratitude enhances our awareness, shifts our focus to positivity, encourages mindfulness, and strengthens relationships. Together, these elements allow us to experience uninhibited celebrations, magnifying the impact of our wins and fostering a supportive environment where shared joy thrives.

77. The Power of Pondering
The art of pondering—engaging in deep, purposeful thought—is a valuable skill to develop. Pondering involves considering and reasoning, reflecting on feelings and emotions, and ultimately gaining personal insights that no one else can achieve for you. Many people avoid pondering due to a perceived lack of time, discomfort with their own thoughts, or simply not knowing how to do it. However, pondering can help you understand yourself, boost creativity, listen to your body's signals, receive inspiration, and learn from your experiences. It's the first step in taking control of your life. To effectively ponder, set aside dedicated time, have a clear purpose, be honest with yourself, explore different perspectives, and document your insights. Embracing pondering allows for intentional living and unlocks your potential for growth and self-discovery.

75. Voices that Matter
We live in a chaotic and noisy world. Choosing the right voices to listen to can make a significant difference, especially when not all loud voices are beneficial. How do we determine which voices will benefit us the most? The best voices will support your goals, believe in your abilities, offer helpful suggestions, communicate effectively, and provide genuine encouragement. These guidelines also help us to be better supporters in others' lives by seeing individuals' needs, leaving biases behind, and fostering encouragement over criticism. The voices we choose and how we show up for others have far-reaching impacts, often beyond our immediate awareness.

74. Courage to Be You
Change is something each of us experience; it is an inescapable and vital part of the human experience. It can be uncomfortable and scary and can even lead to self-doubt. Yet it has been shown that fear and uncertainty can be mitigated by having a clear vision of what you want and who you are while stepping into discomfort. We can all find courage amidst change. Courage is built through action – even small actions – outside our comfort zone. And fortunately for each one of us, every day is full of opportunities to act courageously.

73. Feeding Souls with Lori Birckhead and Christy Palmer
“Buy land, grow food, and give it away.” Such began Lori Birckhead’s journey with By Faith Farm. Following a recurring vision, she and her husband did indeed buy land where they now grow food to give away to those in need despite having had no farming experience and loads of initial skepticism. Many miracles later, By Faith Farm is now run completely by “farm angel” volunteers, chief among them being Christy Palmer. These volunteers helped grow 182,000 pounds of organic food last year. In addition to growing food, Lori and Christy manage a you-pick flower field, short-term rental farm experience, organic beef, and soon a campground. Lori and Christy have found that they’re not just feeding bellies; they’re feeding souls. Learn more about By Faith Farm at https://www.byfaithfarm.com/

71. The Power of Asking Questions
Have you ever been paralyzed by the inability to ask an important question? Or maybe you thought you knew the answer and you ended up making a poor decision. Asking questions is a powerful tool for forward progression – yet we’re not always great at this skill. In this episode, I talk about three basic types of asking: query, invite, and request, and why people often avoid asking due to fear, assumptions, or the belief they can figure things out on their own. Addressing these obstacles can unlock numerous benefits, such as gaining the help we need, understanding our community, building confidence, and measuring compatibility in relationships. Furthermore, I address the importance of asking ourselves questions to gather information, dream, and set goals. By embracing the power of asking, we set in motion our next steps, gain control of conversations, and acquire knowledge and wisdom, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and empowered life.

69. Finding Strength in the Path of Least Resistance
Science shows that we gain strength through resistance, much like how muscles grow when we lift weights. However, in nature, from wind and water to our brain's synapses, everything seeks the path of least resistance. This raises the question: how can we harness this natural law to create positive change in our lives? The key lies in altering our current systems to form new paths of least resistance. By repeating positive behaviors, making decisions only once, letting go of perfectionism, and surrendering control over what we can't change, we can establish better pathways. These strategies help us move toward our goals and the life we desire, ultimately leading to a stronger, more resilient self.

67. Seize Your Day
I bet you’ve heard the timeless wisdom of Robert Herrick's poem, "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time." Herrick’s poem urges us to "gather ye rosebuds while ye may," reminding us to seize the day and make our lives extraordinary. True extraordinariness isn't just about accomplishments or fame; it's about what we do with the opportunities we encounter. It’s important to recognize these opportunities, whether they're self-created, unexpected open windows, or shifts in perspective. Sometimes, we need mentors and loved ones to help us see the chances we might miss. Once we spot an opportunity, the real challenge is to seize it, embracing change with courage and determination. Avoiding these chances can leave us feeling stuck, while embracing them can lead to incredible growth. The transformative power of gratitude is also essential, as gratitude is the ultimate state of receiving, inviting more opportunities into our lives. So, let's seize our days and make our lives truly extraordinary!

65. Love It To Life
Human beings are creatures of creation – whether we know it or not. The question isn’t if we’re creating but what are we creating? In my own journey of creation, I discovered that "Love it to Life" isn't just a catchy phrase; it's a game-changer. Whether it's finding the right job, improving relationships, redecorating, planning a vacation, writing a book, or creating an amazing client experience, adding a sprinkle of love and passion increases the flow of creative juices and makes everything bloom. How do you love something to life? This takes the right awareness, attitude, perspective, and a surrender of control. Sounds kind of counter-intuitive when you’re the creator, but it’s a secret sauce that actually works!! Create with intention, embrace gratitude, and expect miracles in whatever “it” means to you.

Have you ever played a game with a flat ball? It’s pretty pointless. It’s the ball’s ability to bounce back that makes the game work – and it’s what makes the game so much fun, too! We are a lot like that ball - the more bounce, or resilience, we have, the better we can recover from the setbacks we experience in life. While it’s best to take preventative measures to maintain a healthy level of resilience, it’s also good to know how to pump yourself up when you’re feeling a little flat or even completely deflated. I've spent many hours journaling and have greatly benefited from a variety of techniques. Let's talk about it. Link to the YouTube video I mention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8RQsJ0Q3Mo

44. Choosing Happiness
I've long heard that happiness is a choice. If that is true, then any emotion is a choice. What are the mechanics of choosing your emotions, though? Don't they just happen? There is a formula for choosing the way we feel. The key is to know what it is and how to interpret it to fit you. Let's talk about it.

42. AIM for Success
For many years my time management skills were a hot mess - think non-existent. I learned, though, that it's a skill that has to be developed just like any other skill. It took a lot of trying different methods and failing - a lot - before I felt like I had a handle on it. But let's be honest; I'm still figuring out the best time management system. While there are a myriad of time management books and courses to learn from, ultimately it's up to you to figure out what works best for you, too. How do you do that? Let's talk about it.

40. Yes...And
The Yes And Technique is one of the most common techniques used in improv standup comedy. It happens as two comedians banter back and forth. What is presented by one comedian is accepted and then added upon by the other comedian. The process continues until the comedians finish their impromptu skit. The Yes And Mindset is similar to the comedic Yes And Technique and can be used as a tool to be more successful. This episode explores the differences between the Yes And Mindset and the Yes But Mindset and how each affects our lives and relationships. 34. Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or Tapping, is a great way to quickly clear up negative thoughts or emotions that prevent us from accomplishing our goals. The technique stems from "Thought Field Therapy" by Dr. Roger Callahan and uses specific acupuncture points to free up your energy flow. Since the energy that is flowing originates from emotions, as we free up those blocked emotions we then become free to move forward. Hence the name, Emotional Freedom Technique. If you want to see a visual of how this is done, please see my YouTube video at https://youtu.be/vzd96Tgpa_c. Gary Craig's website (EFT developer): https://www.emofree.com/

ABOUT THIS SHOW
Every woman has a story - the reason she is the way she is - and I'm no exception. As a life coach, I’ve spent the last 10+ years finding ways to live a happier, more meaningful life. I've created the podcast, "Be You: Your Story, Your Purpose," to celebrate the successes and challenges we face daily as women and to learn how to find our personal purpose in our own story. Join me every Monday as we learn how different women are living their purpose and Thursday as we take a deeper dive into how to live the purpose in our own story.
