Episode 37 - Ella Douglas
Today’s case is one from my dad’s home town of Dumfries in Scotland. A man, on a whim, with no red flags or criminal history, decided to murder a woman he claimed to love after she simply asked him if he wanted a cup of tea. After the killing, he sat with the body for 8 hours before hiding it in a grotesque and unimaginable way. Her family and friends were searching for her but it would take 10 months for the truth to come out. Unfortunately the punishment didn’t match the crime and this man practically got away with a cold blooded killing. Episode 36 - The Jigsaw Murders
This case has everything! I mean, hi, happy Thursday…..this case has everything! It is the story of a brutal murderer whose level of butchery was intense and resulted in him being dubbed ‘The Jigsaw Killer’. It’s a rollercoaster of a tale, we travel from India to the Middle East, England and Scotland. I chose it because it takes place around where my family is from, or part of it does, but really for the leap that was made in forensic science because of it. What should have been an incredibly difficult case to solve, even with today’s technology, was closed relatively quickly thanks to great police work and great science. A monster was caught before he could do any more butchering and the role that forensics can play in solving a crime was suddenly noticed by law enforcement. Episode 35 - Brandi Hicks and Elizabeth Reiser
Today’s episode is the last of our 4 survivor tales where we highlight the cases of some bad ass women in honor of Women’s History Month. This one is a little different though, it’s a survivor tales and, unfortunately, a murder. In 2000 two friends were enjoying some down time after their final exams and looking forward to their high school graduation which was just a matter of days away. As the pair left Hollywood Video they met a monster. He would brutally murder Elizabeth and do his best to kill Brandi too. This case is so tragic but in the darkest of moments there can still be light. Brandi survived, the killer’s family refused to shield him and Elizabeth’s family would show what true love and forgiveness really are. Episode 34 - Maggie Maloy
Episode 34 is here! Today we are covering the intense and remarkable survival tale of Maggie Maloy. Abducted from an early morning run with her track team, she was raped, abused and shot 5 times. She lived, her attitude, her behaviours, were remarkable. She did everything to save her life and to catch the man who did this to her. This wasn’t her only struggle however, a serious car accident a few years later would test her resilience again and once more she would come out as a hero. You won’t want to miss this one. New episode alert! This one is such an amazing story of one woman’s survival against the odds. Lisa McVey went from preparing to commit suicide to fighting for her life. She not only survived, she thrived and fought for justice. She undoubtedly saved many others too. Her insights helped catch a serial killer and rapist who killed 10 women and raped up to 50 more. Do we have a tale for you! This is a wild ride and one you wont want to miss. This is the survival story of Juliane Koepcke who would fall 2 miles when her airplane exploded. She would awake to find herself in the middle of the Peruvian Amazonian rainforest. It’s beyond heroic, inspirational and awe inspiring. It’s almost unbelievable yet it is 100% true. Listen now and be amazed. This is the first of female survival stories we have planned for the coming weeks in honor of Women’s History Month…yes we know it’s going to go over but cut us some slack, we aren’t all as driven as Juliane LOL. Life has been hard for everyone lately. Our topics are definetly hard to listen to sometimes so we thought we would take a moment for some self care by laughing more. Episode 30 - The Murder of Carol Jenkins
Today is our fourth, and final, episode into civil rights crimes in honor of Black History Month. Yes we know it’s now March, sorry. We decided to cover a case from the civil rights era to close out our coverage. It is the terribly horrific case of the murder of Carol Jenkins in 1968. Here Miss Jenkins travelled door to door selling encyclopedias. That was all it took for a monster, actually monsters, to torment her and kill her. She was a black woman in a sundown town and for the racists residents, thats all it took. She almost made it to safety, minutes from meeting up with friends she was murdered, out in the open. This case shows the history of sundown towns in this country and their impact on residents even decades later. It shows how, even white people, who helped a black person in one of these towns could be targeted and it shows how justice can still come, no matter how long it takes. We owe it to Carol to stand up and say no more. To say, we failed you and we wont let it happen again.

Episode 29 - The Rape of Recy Taylor
In today’s episode we are covering the third of our four cases involving crimes against African Americans. It is the rape of Recy Taylor in 1944. Here a woman was attacked by a group of 7 white men while walking home at night from church. There were witnesses and confessions but she would never receive justice. The crime, however, would birth a movement. Her willingness to pursue justice in the face of threats and a Jim Crowe south, could be directly linked to the modern civil rights era that followed. This is the case that Rosa Parks campaigned on almost 10 years before she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus. This is a case that shows just how much one person can take and still get up and do more. Episode 28 - The Lynching of James Byrd Jr
Today episode is our second of four featuring civil rights crimes. This one is particularly harsh. No word of a lie, it’s very upsetting, barbaric, heinous, really all the awful descriptors imaginable. It is the case of the lynching of James Byrd Jr. He was unfortunate enough to be walking home after a night out and encountered a car full of racists. Two of the three perpetrators met whilst in prison and were members of the same white supremacy group. What they did next was some of the worst abuses I have ever heard of. It affected me so much that it took me twice as long to write up because I was so disturbed. They didn’t just kill him, they brutalized him, they tried to destroy him. Even in death, even till recently, he has been degraded further. His grave has been repeatedly desecrated, racist remarks painted and carved into it. But his light shines on. New legislation came into effect, signed into law but our first black president. Episode 27 - The Lynching of Michael Donald
So we are doing something a little different for the next few episodes. For Black History Month, we wanted to cover some civil rights crimes and with everything going on in this country, and the world at the moment, it’s more important than ever to know our history and to try and avoid going back to the way it used to be. This episode is covering the lynching of Michael Donald. He was a well loved and respected, 19 year old man who did nothing more than walk along the street to save his niece from going to the store at night. This was all it took for the Klan to grab him and murder him in a profoundly violent way. This wasn’t a turn of the century thing or in the 1960’s, this was in 1981. What the Klan didn’t count on though was a mother whose love for her son and her faith gave her the strength to take on the organization and get justice for Michael. Episode 26 - Robert Black, Part Three
In today’s episode we are finally ending our series covering the crimes of serial killer, and pedophile, Robert Black. It has been an intense journey through his life and to be honest, we are glad it’s over. We end this chapter by showing how he was connected to the Jennifer Cardy case which we covered in episode 24. However we also cover what other crimes he has been connected to, some are more compelling than others but one thing is for certain, there are monsters out there and this episode proves it. Episode 25 - Robert Black, Part Two
This is our second episode of three covering the life and crimes of child serial killer Robert Black. As with last week’s episode, this one covers a lot of things that can be very hard to listen to including sexual abuse of children. In this episode we find out the unique circumstances surrounding Black’s arrest thanks to a quick thinking and heroic eye witness who acted on his instincts. Not only that, he was apprehended by the father of the little girl he had just kidnapped and raped. We also delve into the history of a prolific serial offender who showed serious behaviors from the earliest of ages. This man should have been stoped long before he was. Police and some members of the public knew of his offenses but he was left for over 40 years to terrorize the world. Episode 24 - Robert Black, Part One
Happy Thursday guys! Today’s case is very important to hear. Fair warning though, it’s not easy to listen to. This episode, the first of three, cover crimes against children so we understand if that’s not something you want to listen to. We feel it’s important though, to shine a light on the monster who committed these crimes. Not only to help tell the story of the little girls and their families, but also to raise awareness. Awareness of missed warning signs. Awareness of what is actually a violent crime and what shouldn’t be swept under the carpet or given a slap on the wrists. Mostly though, we want to raise awareness of the many other potential crimes this man may, and probably did commit. Robert Black was a pedophile and murderer. He was caught when he was 43, however he was first caught committing rape at 11 years old!. He had decades in between where he was free to act out the worst acts imaginable. Episode 23 - Jose Campos Torres
This is the most relevant case we have ever covered. Yes it took place in the 1970’s but in our current political climate it’s hard to deny the similarities. Jose Campos Torres was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Instead of bringing him to jail, the officers beat him and then murdered him. The city of Houston TX had a long history of misconduct but this case would be the one to bring about change. Episode 22 - Danielle Locklear.
In today’s episode we cover a case that I’ve had on my list since I started putting together the pod. It’s a local case from my new home in NC and it was heartbreaking. A 15 year old girl, Danielle Locklear, disappeared after a quick visit to her neighbor. It would take 3 weeks to know what happened to her and to unravel a web of deceit at the hands of a selfish monster. Danielle’s mother and the rest of her family were tireless in their efforts to find her. This one will break your heart. Episode 21 - Mary Vincent, Survivor.
So today’s episode is special, not only did my mum and I manage to record it in the same room, but we also covered a badass woman and her survival tale. Mary Vincent was only a child when she was attacked, raped, and left for dead. The animal who did this, Lawrence Singleton, chopped off her hands and threw her away like trash. He didn’t understand that she was a fighter though. and that she would ensure he was caught. She wanted to stop him from hurting anyone else. Unfortunately the legal system wasn’t able to stop him from killing a different woman. This is a story you will want to hear. Episode 20 - The Nazi Doctors
Today’s episode is probably the epitome of evil. We are tackling the subject of Nazi doctors. There’s no way we can cover all the heinous acts that were perpetrated by these foul creatures. Nor is there enough time to tell you about them all. What we decided to do was talk a little about the backdrop of Nazi Germany and then discuss a handful of these so called medical professionals. This is an infuriating topic with so much to hate. Episode 19 - Joey Gallo.
OK, so this was an episode we were looking forward to for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we have our first guest joining us, my wee brother Mark. Secondly, it’s our first mobster episode and as a fan of The Godather, The Sopranos etc, I was happy to research a bit about that genre. Our sound quality was a bit off, I apologize, It was one of our first recordings and we’ve come a long way. Our old sound recording service wasn’t great and we have moved to another now. I also had to cut a lot out because we were just laughing too much so it was a really fun episode. I mean my mum had no idea about what the mafia was and she made some very funny comments. Today we talk about the life and crimes of Joey Gallo. He was a different type of mobster. He was artistic, cultured but before it all, he was a violent criminal. His life was short but almost cinematic. This tale is crazy, twisted and very interesting. Episode 18. - The Ortega Family Massacre.
This episode is a horrible tragedy, perpetrated by a despicable man. Bruce Pardo was a selfish, vindictive and evil human being who killed 9 members of the Ortega family on Christmas Eve. Those he left alive struggled to process what happened but they moved forward, determined to live for those that were lost. Episode 17 - Todd Schultz and Annette Cooper.
Today’s episode is a tragic double murder that not only resulted in heartache for two families, and the quiet town of Logan Ohio. It also resulted in the wrongful arrest and conviction of a man who went on to spend 7 years in prison for the crimes. It would take decades to get the real perpetrators and some sense of justice. Two sadistic and cruel career criminals met and together they would take the lives of Todd Schultz and Annette Cooper. Episode 16 - Bible John Part Two.
Today’s episode is the conclusion to our Bible John series. This one has so many twists and turns that you will find hard to believe. Even if you think you know the case you will still be surprised. There is corruption, coverups and leads old and new. Was this the work of one psychopath or multiple different criminals? We will let you decide after hearing the facts. One thing is certain, these cases were mishandled from the outset and there should be an investigation into that and the murders again with new eyes and new technology. Patricia, Jemima and Helen deserve it. Episode 15 - Bible John Part 1
It’s here! Episode 1 of our Bible John coverage. This is an incredibly tense, frustrating and barbaric ride. Today we cover what life was like for these women, living in 1960’s Glasgow and their murders. We find out that my wee mum Liz has more than a few parallels to the victims and we have a bit of banter too. This case is synonymous with Glasgow and it’s that case of love to see solved. It’s frustrating, riveting and scary all at the same time. It’s basically Glasgow’s Jack the Ripper. Episode 14 - The Life and Crimes of Daniel LaPlante.
Today’s cases are truly terrifying. I know I always say this but I mean it. It’s the stuff of nightmares. I could imagine this in a scary movie. This is the life and crimes of Daniel LaPlante. I can only describe him as a monster, a devil, a truly unhinged human. He was spurned after one date with Tina Bowen and went on to do the most insane acts as revenge. This will haunt you. Episode 13 - Sonia Carmen Herok-Stone
Today’s episode is one we chose to remind everyone that it’s never too late to receive justice. More importantly, it shows how one crime or act of violence can ripple through a family and change everyone’s life forever. Sonia was a beautiful, self sufficient, single mother. When she came home from dropping her daughter off at school she was attacked, abused and murdered. Police thought they knew who killed her but a jury wasn’t so sure. It would take over 40 years for detectives to have the answers they needed. In that time a killer was free and a family were torn apart by accusations, doubts and grief. At the center of it all is a void that no one could fill and a daughter who needed answers. Episode 12 - Jennifer Schuett
Today’s episode is a little different from cases we have covered before. Yes it’s devastatingly horrific. Yes, it’s a crime committed by an absolute animal. But no, his victim doesn’t die. This is a SURVIVAL tale. Little Jennifer Schuett endured horrors you can’t even imagine but she was strong. She fought for justice, for 20 years she would push to show she was stronger than the psychopath who hurt her. She wouldn’t rest until he was off the streets and unable to hurt anyone else. Episode 11 - Lisa Ann French.
We say this all the time but this episode really is very disturbing. It made our hearts ache and we cried together while talking about little 9 year old Lisa. On October 31st 1973 she did what all children do, she went out trick-or-treating in her neighborhood. When she failed to return as expected, her mother wasted no time getting police and locals to search for her. Unfortunately she would cross paths with a psychotic pedophile before they could find her. This man is a monster and what Lisa endured is beyond horrific. His actions have resulted in new rules and laws in Fond Du Lac and the state of Wisconsin as a whole and they are still being followed to this day. Episode 10 - Peter Tobin.
If I picture the monster under the bed, I see this guys face. Today’s episode covers the life and crimes of Peter Tobin, a Scottish born sadistic, psychopath who killed at least 3 young women. Episode 9 - The Aberfan Disaster
On The 21st of October, just after school had begun. A spoil tip from the coal mine above the village of Aberfan, in Wales, began to slide down the mountain and into the two schools below. The devastation was complete and the town, and country, were changed forever. It is one of the worst mining disasters the world has ever seen, and it still holds the record for the most devastating event, involving children, in UK history. The story is heartbreaking but the frustration and grief the families felt was made worse by the lack of accountability of those who could have stopped it from happening in the first place. Corruption, government coverups and trauma abound in this story. We recorded this a while ago but held it back to come out just 4 days before the 59th anniversary of the fateful event. Lest we forget. Please follow us, like, subscribe and share. You can visit us at: www.grievousbodilyharmpodcast.com You can email us at: [email protected]

Episode 8 - The Sunderland Strangler.
In today’s episode we cover the murders committed by the despicable, sadistic, Sunderland Strangler. This evil s.o.b could have, and should have been caught earlier. Unfortunately there was a lack of interest or effort from the police and it would take 4 deaths before this murderer was arrested for his crimes. This one infuriated us and our hearts ache for the families who fought so hard to get justice for their boys and to ensure a serial killer was taken off of their streets. Episode 6 - Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom
In today’s episode we are covering the truly horrendous, vicious, violent and senseless murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. It boggles my mind that I hadn’t heard about this case before and, fair warning, it’s not an easy one to hear about. I literally lost sleep over it. Those who carried out the attacks were cruel and evil beyond measure. I took solace in the actions the families took to ensure their children were remembered and to help others in the future. This episode was recorded before some others you’ve already heard. We were still working on our sound. Sorry if it’s not as good quality as others you have heard. We have it perfected now. This episode is my wee mum’s and my hometown murder case. Everyone, I think, has that one case that was too close to home or suddenly made crime seem all too real and this is ours. Join us as we discuss the nuances of the case and give our thoughts and insights. You might just learn a few more Scottish words and a little about our critters at the same time. As I say at the beginning of the episode, I accidentally use the wrong name of the perpetrator a couple of times and I apologize. I’m human and I’m sure I will make more mistakes but I will try to make amends. This case is a very serious and disturbing one that everyone should know about.
