Key psychological barriers such as perfectionism, emotional eating, social pressures, and self-sabotage are discussed, highlighting fear of failure or success and low self-esteem as underlying causes. The power of sleep and your health. Realistic tips on how to improve this area of your health.
In today's episode, I dive into the fascinating connection between sleep and fat loss, uncovering why poor sleep can somewhat sabotage our fat loss efforts. I talk about how how sleep impacts metabolism, highlighting research showing that sleep deprivation can lower resting metabolic rate and disrupt the balance of hunger hormones, leading to increased appetite and overeating. I shed light on why we tend to reach for calorie-dense foods when sleep-deprived, and the neurological mechanisms behind this phenomenon, including heightened brain activity in reward centers when exposed to food stimuli. I discuss how poor sleep quality can zap our energy and motivation, making it challenging to engage in physical activity, and how stress, cortisol levels affect sleep and the possible implications of high cortisol levels on abdominal fat deposition and insulin resistance. Instead of telling you just to get 8 hours of good quality sleep (which is unrealistic for most busy women) I give you actionable tips for improving sleep quality in whatever phase of life you are in.

"I think I'm not eating enough?" Is that the reason I'm not losing weight? Let me explain...
In this episode of Once you know, you know!, I talk about the common misconception that "not eating enough" is the reason behind stalled weight loss efforts. The concept of caloric deficits and how weight loss fundamentally boils down to consuming fewer calories than the body expends. However, sustained caloric restriction can lead to metabolic adaptation, where the body adjusts by slowing down metabolism, making further weight loss challenging which is a little more complex than assuming your body is going into "starvation mode" I also discuss the psychological aspects, highlighting how strict calorie deficits can trigger feelings of deprivation, social pressures, and emotional eating tendencies. These factors can undermine adherence to a calorie deficit and lead to unsustainable eating habits. I explain the importance of muscle mass in weight loss success, explaining how muscle tissue burns more calories at rest and during exercise, contributing to faster fat loss. However, severe calorie restriction can lead to loss of lean muscle mass, further complicating weight loss efforts. By understanding these complexities and adopting sustainable lifestyle changes, individuals can achieve their weight loss goals effectively and maintain long-term success.

Let's talk "Girl Math" why you're smarter than playing into that stereotype, and how your subconscious thoughts impact your choices (the way you see yourself is the way you act)
It's pretty common for women to use self deprecating humour to cover something up they are insecure about, fear they will be judged on, or to feel better about their choices. This isn't helpful for your self esteem or your confidence labelling yourself as something that probably isn't true. It also makes it harder for you to believe that you CAN achieve what you want and exhibit behaviour change. I used to all myself the 70% girl, near enough was good enough and soon enough that transferred into so many areas of my life...even down to leaving 1 or 2 items wet in the washing machine, or 1 dish in the sink unwashed after I'd just done a whole bunch... I'd laugh off my inability to finish what I started. So that became a belief I played into every single time....until it wasn't funny to me anymore. I want you to feel strong, empowered and confident, girl math doesn't do that. It implies you're not in control of your choices, your finances, or that you need an excuse to justify your choice....a confident women doesn't need that...she already knows. Have a listen to this episode and see how this plays into your behaviour patterns and how you CAN indeed change, when you change your beliefs and thoughts. If you enjoyed this one, share it with a friend so they too can find out how good this kind of fitness can feel.
