Myth vs Fact: We marry a version of our mother or father

Today, I will explore whether it is a myth or a fact that we marry a version of our mother or father. Is this even a thing? If it is, then ouchie, the idea that we are drawn to versions of our parents in our romantic relationships may feel a little strange. If it isn't, then the question is why we are drawn to certain types of people. Well, the answers are all here. Join me in understanding the research and theories that support or refute this theory and also my experiences as a therapist for over 20 years.

The Power Of Programming - Special guest Helen Davies

WOW, today I will be chatting with Helen Davies who is a parenting consultant and mum of 4. While chatting with Helen about her childhood and her parenting journey we inadvertently unearthed a piece of programming that had potentially shaped her career path, which she was previously unaware of. Helen's roles in working with families in various ways have brought her so much joy and fulfilment. Her position as a health visitor came from experiencing an incredible example when she was just 10 years old, when her mum's health visitor provided her with incredible care after the birth of Helen's sister. But the full understanding of why she so desperately wanted to embark on such a career may not have been fully clear until today. It was incredible to see Helen’s journey unfold and it highlights that even those small nuggets of information that we store in our subconscious can bring so much light and make so much sense as to why we are the people we are today I hope you enjoy the show.

Whether you are a stepparent or the biological parent, this episode may help shed light on the challenges many blended families face from a different perspective and help you to know that you're not alone. As a young person, Tara decided she knew she wanted more for her family when the time came to have children, and as a result, she has made it her business to break her family patterns and talks candidly about the challenges that she has faced together with what is clearly an incredible bond with her children in spite of the fact that she had very little positive experiences of how to be the parent that she wanted to be, but she certainly knew what she didn't want to be.
