Louis Alexander is a 24-year-old professional explorer, adventurer and storyteller. From running through deserts, swimming across shipping lanes, to summiting some of the world’s most notable mountains, Louis has conquered numerous endurance feats. His endeavours have raised tens of thousands for charity and features in national and international press, named by The Times as the ‘Modern-day Byron’ after his successful swim across the infamous Hellespont strait, which separates Europe and Asia. Louis recently completed his journey to run seven marathons in the most remote corners of all seven continents. During the 14-month project, he ran through two deserts, Alaska, Australian Outback, Amazon Rainforest, Arctic Circle and Antarctica. Sarah tells us of her own journey through cancer and how she is now dedicated and motivated to helping those feel fit after cancer. Sarah Newman is a Cancer & Exercise specialist and Breast Cancer Rehab Coach. Sarah founded her company Get Me Back to offer specialist fitness training for women affected by cancer. Experiencing first-hand the benefits exercise had on her own cancer recovery, she wanted to create an accessible place where women could feel safe exercising following their diagnosis. She aims to provide clear and specialist advice for those in need, offering a positive place to share experiences, regain body confidence and strength. Earlier this year, Get Me Back launched the UK’s first online fitness app run by specialist cancer trainers, for women to rebuild their strength and fitness after treatment. Membership includes access to live classes, on-demand video workouts and recovery programmes, physiotherapy clinics and supporting nutritional and lifestyle advice, all relating to cancer recovery. S2 E3 - Ed Fuller: Para-rower & European Champion on balancing haemophilia and elite sport
Fuller has restricted movement in his ankles due to his haemophilia. Haemophilia is a genetic disorder that affects the blood's ability to clot. People with haemophilia are at risk of bleeding easily, especially into their joints. This can lead to pain, swelling, and stiffness. In some cases, it can also lead to permanent damage to the joints. Despite his haemophilia, Fuller is a successful Para-rower. He has won world and European championships in the mixed coxed four. He is one of the few elite British athletes with haemophilia who competes in Para-sport. Fuller's story is an inspiration to others with haemophilia. It shows that people with the condition can live active and fulfilling lives. S2 E1 - Hari Budha Magar - A journey to the top of the world
Hari Budha Magar is a Nepalese double above-knee amputee and world record-breaking mountaineer. In 2010, he lost both his legs above the knee after an IED explosion in Afghanistan. He was devastated by his injuries, but he refused to give up. He decided to use his experience to inspire others and change perceptions of what is possible for people with disabilities. In 2017, Magar became the first double above-knee amputee to summit a mountain taller than 6,000 meters (Mera Peak, 6,476 meters). Then, on May 19, 2023, he accomplished the record of being the first ever double above-knee amputee to summit the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest (8,848 meters). Magar's climb was an incredible achievement, and it has inspired people all over the world. He is a true inspiration, and he shows us that anything is possible if we set our minds to it.
